The Unexpected Turn of Life and Fate
Chapter 1: Foolishness Inc. (Chapter 2)
As I approached the small bar, my heart did a few somersaults. I'd know who I was after speaking to this woman. And if what she said was true, I was a Pegasus. Something that was only heard about in stories. I could imagine myself, large and proud, with my huge wingspan. It felt so great... I had to verify the information. There was always the chance I read the email wrong, but... Whatever.
Entering the building, I search around. I catch a glimpse of the teal wings, and I manage my way over to them. Unfortunately, they hadn't really been the wings of Rainbow Dash, but instead my eyes playing tricks on me. It was only a sweater on a fairly attractive woman. I took another peek around, and sighed. This place was packed, I'd never find her in there. As I had just ordered a beer, I stood corrected, as the woman with the rainbow-colored hair approached me once again.
I took a look at her, and she said quietly, almost whispering into my ear, "You know, there was a reason I'm here! Since I was the fastest flier ever, I was sent to collect anyone with wings. A lot of Pegasus ponies were sent here in a magical outburst. But, when I got here...." Her voice trailed off. Obviously, whatever had caused her to cry had been what she was about to speak about, as tears came streaming out of her eyes. I felt really awkward.
----------
About a half an hour later, she finished her crying. It was about darn time. She again said quietly to me, "Some of these ponies... they became corrupt. They intended on killing me when they caught sight of me. I got away, but... it upset me to know that my own race was becoming evil..." Maybe these evil Pegasus ponies have something to do with my new wings, I thought to myself. As I thought she was done, she said, "So, I need your help... we need to fix these ponies before somepony gets hurt. Also, normal humans can't see our wings, so you can just leave them out.."
That sure was a relief. They had been getting so cramped, I almost felt the circulation cutting off to them. I extended them so that they would rip a hole in my shirt, and jacket. I was surprised by their power. Honestly, I hadn't expected them to actually cut through the fabric that held my clothes together. Then again, what WAS I thinking when I did that? But, I digress. The point is, that I ripped through my shirt and jacket.
After a bit more of just plain small talk, and Rainbow Dash claiming to be the best Pegasus there was, I began to become bored. So, I told Rainbow to meet at my address tomorrow at 5 PM. No, I didn't assume she knew it. I told her. Anyways, I exited the bar, and sprinted back to my place. It was getting dark, and I needed my sleep. I didn't want to be late like I had been the day before.
----------
I woke up, and gave a loud yawn. I thought that maybe the last day was just a dream, as I hadn't remembered it quite as well as when I was living it. So, I touched my back, only to find wings again. I sighed, and got dressed, as I did everyday. However, when I opened the door, I was met by the winged woman. She smiled at me cockily, and I sighed, "I have to get to work, Rainbow Dash."
"I'll come with, I got a job there too!"
....What? Rainbow Dash, the supposed fastest Pegasus ever, had gotten a job at my dead end workplace? No way. There was just no way she would do something that dumb. Maybe she just wanted more chances to talk to me, or something. I wasn't really sure at the time. However, Rainbow decided to help me learn how to use my wings. How she knew I had no idea how to use them, I had no clue.
She showed me the basics of flying, and eventually, after many falls, I managed to lift off. We met high in the air, and flew towards my work. I couldn't believe how wonderful the wind felt through my hair. It was so wonderful to be so high off of the ground, that I couldn't believe it. Then again, humans weren't meant for travel in the air. So, it came to me as no surprise that it felt so new, and great.
As we arrived, I hit the ground and rolled. I wasn't exactly very good at the whole landing thing. Rainbow landed next to me, and we walked inside. After a few words to the receptionist, we were in the elevator on the way back up to the main floor. I hadn't used the elevator before, but I felt like I should use it at least once. Why I chose this moment, I have no idea. When we found ourselves on the main floor, we went to my cubicle. This lead me to question Rainbow Dash, "Don't you have your own cubicle?"
"Well, yeah, but if I went there, I wouldn't be able to speak to you!"
So her cubicle must have been pretty far away. Honestly, I didn't want to talk to her about my predicament. But, as I worked, all she spoke about was her home planet. She called it Equestria. I suppose weird places have to have weird names. But, that was beside the point. I was nearly finished with my paperwork when an explosion rattled the entire building. What was going on? Rainbow Dash said to me in a hushed voice, "It's one of the corrupt Pegasi. We have to be extremely careful."
I could hear someone screaming, and a crowd of people sprinting away. Looking at her, I said, "Then shouldn't we leave? We're unarmed, and we can't handle him..." She looked at me like I was insane. Clearly, she had a plan, and perhaps even weapons. But, she didn't want to kill them, so what did she have in plan? It looked like she had pulled something from thin air, and she handed me a thin, glowing sword.
"Don't worry, these won't kill anyone," she said. Though, it seemed she had doubts about it, "Now, I'll leave you to do this. Show me what you've got!" So, I did just that. I charged at the source of the sound, and what I saw, scared the heck out of me; there was a man with brown wings, his eyes red. He donned a black t-shirt, jeans, a very messy haircut, which was white, and a very buff body. The white around his eyes had turned black, and he emanated a source of pain and destruction. It was clear he wanted to kill anyone that came near him. And currently, he wanted to kill me.
Using his bare fists, he tried to ax-handle me. However, it only ended in him missing. He had been so much bulkier than me, he clearly had a lack of speed. But, I knew that if he managed to land a hard punch on me, it'd be over for me. So, I planned accordingly to that. As he tossed another punch, much weaker and faster, it landed. I hadn't been prepared for such an attack.
I crashed through several cubicles, my bones felt like they were going to collapse upon themselves. I couldn't let that happen, so I managed myself back to my feet. I couldn't take too many more of those hits. I sprinted towards the corrupt Pegasus, my intent extremely clear. I had to purge the evil from this Pegasus before he hurt anyone else, especially me. As I approached, he swung his hand. I very nearly jumped it. He said with an annoyed look on his face, "Stay still so I can crush you!"
As I came closer to him, I brought the sword down into his head. With an ominous crack, his figure began to change. The muscles that had once surrounded his body, the bulk, cracked in half. It fell apart as a blinding light appeared. I covered my eyes, and when the light stopped, I took a peek. Instead of the muscle-bound freak, I found a man taller than me, but a bit skinnier. My energy was wasted, and my body was in pain. So, as he gave me a kind smile, I passed out.
I awoke to the pain being alleviated from my body. I didn't know exactly what was going on, until Rainbow Dash explained to me, "Well, when you passed out, I remembered a special healing agent that the Princess had gave me. So, I set out to tending to your wounds! I hope you're okay, now! Well, of course you would be, I mean it was ME who was helping you, he he!" Indeed I was. I had never felt better. It was as if somebody had given me a boost in power. Maybe the battle had given me some practice, and strength. But, whatever it was, all was well now.
So, I stood up. The Pegasus was gone, and Rainbow Dash also explained that she had sent him back to Equestria. She also promised to help me the next fight, and as a result, I felt better. We stood up, and went back home. She returned to wherever the heck she had been residing, and I went back to my old, small house. I was actually glad to see it this time. Maybe because I had nearly died.
