Chapter 1: Prolouge - short lived victory

Prolouge - short lived victory

Author’s note – I got the idea for his power from ‘monster’ by ascended (it’s a great story and is amazingly written, however I’m following my own storyline (mostly) and their powers are slightly different)

Prologue – short lived victory

“Full house” he looked at me with a smug grin on his face. I sighed in seeming defeat and said “too bad, royal flush” as I laid the cards out on the table he grew redder and redder, the little pasty man in a pinstripe suit had beaten him again, the mask I wore showed no hint of my face, but he knew there was a smirk hidden behind my mask.“YOU’RE CHEATING!” he yelled into my face, I figured it was time to leave with what I had won, so I burst out the window of the shack we were playing poker in, the shack that severely needed a new paint job, better wood, and non-rotten doors. I ran with the money for all I was worth. The henchmen, big dumb apes in black tee shirts, were having horrible luck chasing me, they were tripping over vines that I easily avoided. They were running into each other and collapsing into a heap for the third time when I heard a loud *BANG* echo through the dark forest. I turned around slowly to see the boss standing there with a pistol, he was still red in the face and now somewhat out of breath, but managing “drop the money and leave” he demanded, with the pistol now pointed at my face.

I feel this is a good time to tell you about myself, I am a pasty, 4’3” man of 29, I have black, greasy hair and blue eyes. I was born in Las Vegas, abandoned and forgotten, when some gamblers picked me up, they actually bet me in a gamble, the ones who would have won me were big ugly lugs, with scars all over their faces, they were twins and I could already tell that if I went with them I would be their target practice. So I influenced luck. I’ve had the power to ‘see’ luck and change its flow for as long as I could remember, I funneled all the lug’s luck to the gambler who picked me up, he never lost. I became one of he most successful gamblers in Las Vegas. I decided that I had milked Vegas enough and moved. I went over to Manhattan to try my luck there, but, because of an accident, my face was horribly scarred and I wore a mask to gamble. Another thing about my power, it allows me to use objects that test luck as weapons (cards used as knifes, coins used as explosives, and somehow, dice became a cage)

“Okay, okay, calm down” I bent over to set the money on the ground “there, happy now?” he was glaring at me “your wallet too” I gave him my worst possible look through my mask “and why should I do that?”  “because my little friend here” he motions to the gun “wants you to” the entire time this was going on I was funneling all the luck in the area to one point, I had only tried this trick once before, but it seemed that if something was too lucky, god (or something just as powerful) would make it explode, I focused on a point right next to him. *BOOM* the point I was focusing on exploded. They were blasted back a ways, but still alive, then I noticed something odd about the point I had focused on, in the near-black forest, it was a shaft of sunlight, originating from thin air. I bent down and looked into the hole, and I saw some trees, and the sun overhead, I touched one of the edges and it gave way at my touch, I was wondering what was through it, and I was deciding if I should go in. I heard someone yell “GET HIM!” and decide for me, I stretched out the edges and jumped through.

I was on my face in the dirt, the dirt itself was slightly blackened. I got up and looked around, I was in a forest, dark, but not near-pitch black like the last forest I was in. I looked around and didn’t see any henchmen, I relaxed a little before I heard a rustling noise in the bushes and turned around very quickly to see a  pink… tail? Sticking out of the bushes. I silently walked over to see that it was a yellow pony “!!!” I took a closer look and it seemed to be half-stuck between the bushes. I heard some very soft mumbling on the other side, but I was able to make out what it said “o-oh dear, p-please don’t hurt me” “Insolent foal” the second voice was much louder and harsher, and seemed threatening “Why should I spare you, you helped to bring about my downfall” I snuck around to the other side and leaned against a tree, it seemed like the yellow one was being threatened by a much larger black one with a horn and wings, and the yellow one looked like it would not fight. I hated it when the strong bullied the weak, so I tossed a coin at the black one. The blast knocked the black one back about 10 feet, she glared in my direction with intent to kill and saw me standing there flipping a coin.

“Game miss?” I asked, she stared at me and asked “what are you” “me?” I answered innocently “well, I’m just a simple gambler, not nearly quite so powerful as you” she seemed to inflate slightly at my praise “however, I don’t take kindly to the strong threatening the weak” and I tossed the coin at her, another explosion, emanating from where I tossed the coin tipped her off that I was the one responsible for the original explosion “you will pay for that” and she fired a beam of black energy straight at me. I was hit full on in the chest and I flew backwards into a tree. I couldn’t move, I saw the big black allicorn walking toward me “Insolent foal, learn your place” and she began charging another black energy beam, but then I saw something amazing, a rainbow, going straight toward her.

The rainbow hit her, and engulfed her in a rainbow tornado, she screamed “NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!” and turned into a black mist, I blacked out with an image of 6 ponies (including the one I rescued) running toward me, I knew I was dying, I looked down and I could see my ribs, there was a hole blasted into my chest. My last thought was “ouch” before I blacked out completely.

Author’s note

Random viewer: DAFUQ, he dies already?

Me: don’t worry, he’s not dead, but there’s a twist (not going to tell you more)
