Chapter 1
...the rain was heavy that night, kinda felt like the clouds pouring rain from the skies wanted to bring every pony it could see down the ground along with the raindrops. Ace could feel the water hitting his dark green coat. Well, not his entire coat got soaked as he was carrying the saddlebags his mother had given him for his last birthday when she didn’t come up with anything else. Sure they didn’t help his mane and tail but he didn’t care as they would dry up later.
He could remember his family, all of them where regular earth ponies and it had been like that for a long time until the day when Ace was born, he stretched his wings to remind himself that he was a pegasus and not an earth pony.
No pony could could explain how an earth pony could suddenly give birth to a pegasus. His mother was happy that the foal had survived the hard birth and named him Green Ace due to his dark green coat.
Ace tried not to remember the school he had been through, all of his class mates where earth ponies and they always asked questions about his wings, questions he didn’t have the answer to and he felt like he couldn’t explain so they would understand, and some had even teased him because he was such a bad flier.
His mother always seemed to understand him as she asked his brothers and sisters to not make fun of his wings but to support him. When school finished Ace used the cover of the night to run away as he knew, he needed other pegasi around him so he could learn more about what it meant to be a pegasus.
He already knew that he could fly but he wasn’t a very good flyer and he could only fly short distances and that he could walk on clouds and push them around as he pleased.
He smiled when the memory of that one time he accidentally soaked his brother by jumping on a rain cloud passed through his mind, it felt so different than the regular white clouds he used to walk on so he couldn’t resist jumping on it.
He could still remember how funny his mother thought it was watching a soaked pony come home in the middle of a nearly clear sunny day with only one or two grey clouds among a dozen of regular white ones.
Ace stopped below by a tree to get some shelter from the rain. He had been walking in the heavy rain for what felt most of the day and as the sky was covered by grey rainclouds he didn’t know what time of day it was but he began feeling a bit tired so it was probably sometime around evening.
He didn’t feel cold thanks to the saddlebags but the rain was starting to get to him as he had a lot to trouble flying in rain and when it was this heavy it would be the worst flying experience yet not to mention he had never flown with his saddlebags before.
He noticed that below the tree everything was perfectly dry like the grass on a sunny day so he dropped his saddlebags and took a letter from his uncle who lived in Ponyville who had been great supporting him through letters and Ace felt like his uncle understood exactly how he felt.
He unfolded the letter and placed it on his nearly flattened saddlebag.
...i’m sorry to hear that you feel like you are, I know what its like, I used to be the only unicorn in the family, no pony could explain how it happened and when I was at your age I heard of this town called Ponyville where unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies lived together as if they where all the same and i think you would like it here, its a cute little town where we don’t have much trouble.
I think that if you come live with me in Ponyville you might be able to forget all you been through and look towards a bright future with some other pegasus.
Ace remembered the joy he felt when he read that letter for the first time and had planned his runaway ever since, he had prepared his trip with a map, compass and a few apples and the night before written a letter to his mother who always woke him up every morning as the sun rose beyond the horizon.
By the time you read this i’m probably far away but don’t worry, i’m heading to Ponyville to live with my uncle and I will send you a letter once i get there, I have prepared my trip carefully with a map and a compass so it won’t take long I promise.
You are the best mother any pony could possibly have and you will always be in my heart.
Ace could feel a tear as the sadness struck him from the thought about all the possible reactions his mother could have, although she remained calm most of the times, even when he scared his sisters by placing dark clouds next to their window right before they woke up and when they woke up they screamed.
Sure their mother got there wondering what was going on only to find the reason by looking at the window and she didn’t have to think much to know who was behind the prank.
She told them she would talk to him about it she went to his room, she found him rolling on the floor laughing, She told him that once he was done laughing he would have to remove the clouds and before she left, she admitted that it was a pretty funny joke after all.
Ace laughed quietly when he came thinking of that kind of jokes he quickly remembered that he hadn’t gotten his cutie mark yet and stared wondering if he ever would get one, not long after he felt too tired to stay awake and fell asleep using his unopened saddlebag as a pillow.
The next morning Ace woke up by the sun which was shining in his eyes, he got up and packed his saddlebags thinking Ponyville couldn’t be far away now. Not after traveling for nearly the whole past day, he loved watching the moon and he quietly thought to himself, “A shame it didn’t deliver the warmth and light of the sun”
Ace grabbed an apple from his saddlebag for breakfast while he packed his bags again, he was just about to start walking when he came to realize that his wings wasn’t soaked anymore. He stretched and flapped them for a few times before getting his saddlebags again. He wanted to reach Ponyville today and after a while of walking he spotted a small town with a road leading straight into it. Ace tried to figure a way to draw as little attention as he came walking into the town.
He walked into the town and he soon realized that he had reached Ponyville with all the different ponies around, it was just like his uncle had described it in his letter, unicorns, pegasi and earth ponies all around and most of them didn’t care about some of them having wings, some having horns and some having neither.
His thinking was aborted when he noticed that some pony had built a home above the town entirely by clouds, he stopped to look at it for a few moments before he kept walking down the street in an attempt of finding his uncle without getting stuck in some conversation. He began thinking that maybe he should learn to find his way around the place.
“nah. that can wait until later” he thought to himself as he looked up and looked into the mass of ponies in all kinds of colors combinations and some of them even noticed him definitely wondering who he was but they soon got back to what they where doing earlier. Ace looked up when he noticed some pegasi making a pass over the town making a rainbow trail above the small town.
Ace didn’t see any pony reacting to it, they had probably seen it more than a raincloud spends time soaking every pony below.
Ace however hadn’t seen anything like it and was standing there trying to spot the rainbow again until he heard a voice screaming and when he looked around he could only see some pink pony running and the next moment some pony on the other side tells him “Thats just Pinkie Pie, she did the same when I was new in town”
Ace looked towards where the voice came from and noticed another pony, this one being a lavender unicorn and before Ace got the idea of saying anything the unicorn tells him “Im Twilight Sparkle, never seen you here before, your new?”
Ace quickly replied “Yeah, just got here.” Ace told her that he came to Ponyville to find his uncle. “your uncle? is he the dark brown uncorn with blue mane and tail that came to Ponyville looking for a new start?” Twilight interrupted him.
“yeah, thats him and I’m kinda looking for a new start myself, you know where I can find him?” Ace asked her and the next moment Ace heard Twilight saying “yea, ill show you the way”
After a short trip through the town Twilight stopped by a house and looked at Ace, “Here it is.”
“Thank you Twilight much appreciated” Ace replied before walking inside and finding his uncle in a corner reading some newspaper.
A moment later he lowered his newspaper he had been using magic to hold up and looked around to see who it was.
“Ace? is that you” he said with a smile and Ace could only reply “it’s me uncle.” and moments later his uncle gave him a caring look while saying
“How could I forget you! that green coat, those blue eyes not to mention that mane, black with a single red stripe and a simple black tail. come her and have some delicious apple pie I got for you as I know how much you love pie.”
Ace knew that his uncle was right, Ace loved pie especially apple pie.
After they had eaten the pie and spoken for nearly the rest of the day Ace heard his uncle suggesting that he shows Ace to his room as they had dried out all conversation topics they could come up with.
They went upstairs and Ace smiled when his uncle opened the door revealing a simple room with a bed, a closet and large window, Ace noticed that the window was placed so he could see the weather during the day,
And during the night the window would serve just as fine for watching the moon and the bed was perfectly placed on the side of the window so Ace could sleep without getting too annoyed by the moon light and even if he did he could simply close the curtains.
When the sun would start to rise above the horizon it would soon make the room fill with light so it would as Ace uncle kindly described it by saying “once the sun rises high enough it will wake any pony still sleeping” with a chuckle and once that was said he noticed that Ace had already entered his room.
His uncle looked at him, as Ace looked through the window to see lights starting go down as ponies went to sleep for the night.
Ace found himself getting to sleep as he was kind of tired after a day of walking to reach Ponyville, watching some pink earth pony named Pinkie Pie run away from him as if he was wearing a scary mask. He could still remember meeting the unicorn Twilight Sparkle, and watching some still unknown pegasi make a rainbow above the town.
A short while later he fell asleep in the bed his uncle had gotten for him, it was undeniably a lot more comfortable than sleeping under a tree but what can you ask from nature?
A comfortable bed under every tree?
Chapter 2
...”ACE! the sun has been above the horizon for over an hour now, are you planning on waking up today?” Ace heard his uncle, “just a while more!” Ace replied not wanting to open his eyes for a long while.
He really liked sleeping most of the day now when he didn’t feel like the only pegasus in town, “ok, ill go get some groceries for dinner and when i get back you better not sleep again” and then his uncle left for wherever he would go.
Ace came to thinking “better get up before I end up stuck in the bed” so he made his way out of his bed and noticed that his mane and tail had not been messed up during the night, as a matter of fact it looked just like when he went to sleep.
After making himself a nice little breakfast Ace noticed as his uncle got home and began smiling over the fact that Ace had made it out of bed and down the stairs while he was out and they soon fell into a conversation.
Mainly about what Ace would enjoy spending his time doing now that he had a home and didn’t feel like as alone as he used to, his uncle knew very well how much Ace enjoyed daring challenges and came thinking of suggesting stunt flying but he never suggested it.
He knew that Ace wasn’t a very good flyer but as if he got his mind read Ace asked if his uncle knew any good big open fields around where he could practice flying, and it didn’t take long for his uncle to remember an open field a bit outside Ponyville, he had passed by it many times before,
Sure it was a little walk to get there but it was the perfect spot and unless you where looking for it you didn’t really care about it more than maybe a quick look at it. So when Ace had finished his breakfast they headed for the field talking about what Ace would be practicing,
“Mainly flying normally and maybe a little flying upside down”, His uncle liked the idea of not to too daring tricks already as the fact remained, Ace couldn’t fly in heavy rain when his wings where soaked.
They reached the field after what only felt like a few seconds of walking and as they arrived Ace went up one of the few hills and looked over the field as he stretched his wings and a while later he took off into the sky.
“easiest takeoff this far” he thought as he kept ascending up in the blue sky and when he went through a cloud he hadn’t noticed and as he looked around he noticed another cloud below him and decided to go for it and turned down before quickly retract his wings to gain more speed in the dive and he went straight through the cloud like an arrow and spread his wings again to slow down for a soft landing on the hill where his uncle where watching.
“WOW! you sure can fly.” his uncle cheered when Ace had landed and was looking at the cloud which now had a pretty funny looking hole in the middle.
“thanks uncle, why don’t you get back home and do whatever you like doing and ill be back home once i’m done flying for today.” Ace replied to the admiring he got from his uncle for going into the sky and diving though some clouds.
“yea, maybe I should do that, haven’t read the news for today yet and you make sure to be at home at dinner” his uncle replied without much thinking as it seemed “yeah, sounds good” Ace replied before taking to the skies again for another flight and watched his uncle walk back to their home for reading his newspaper like usual.
A few moments later he noticed as Twilight was walking down the street with some other mares which Ace decided not to pay too much attention to and just keep practicing his flying as he didn’t want to walk when flying could offer so many shortcuts. For example “why look for a bridge across the river when you can simply use your wings” Ace heard himself saying to himself as he looked into a river with peacefully floating water and resumed flying, though clouds and he suddenly notices a rain storm coming in over Ponyville.
“time to see how long I can last!” he said to himself as he gave a little smirk as he waited for the rain.
“Why do I ALWAYS end up like this in rain weather!” he asked himself as he got up from the river, but this time he had lasted for a good while in the rain storm with heavy rain however after a short while he made the mistake of trying to repeat the flying he had done before the rain had showed up which caused him to loose stability and crash into the river he spotted earlier.
Ace knew he wasn’t far outside Ponyville all soaked and having to walk back to, he hadn’t broken any bones and didn’t feel any pain, he had been lucky that he was able to make a decent cash landing in the last seconds, but that didn’t help that he had been soaked.
He got up and did his best shaking off the water in his coat and wings and started walking back home, he didn’t like walking in rain and while walking towards Ponyville while making mental notes of what to do and what not to do in case of rainy days when his thinking was aborted by Twilight and her friends when Twilight asked him “What happened to you?” but just as Ace was about to respond to Twilights question he heard the blue pegasus mare next to her asking him “Did you land in a river thinking it was a field?” before busting into laughter, “RAINBOW!” Twilight looked at her laughing friend. “it’s alright Twilight, i’ve heard worse jokes.” Ace replied before Twilight or any of her friends had time to think of anything.
a few minutes later Ace reached where he was going but he wasn’t alone, Twilight and her friends had joined him on his way home, Ace looked at Twilight said “look. it was nice talking to you all but for now I really need to get inside and dry myself up for tomorrow, maybe ill catch you around later.”
“Thats alright we where actually on our way to my library” Twilight responded and then she left with her friends as Ace opened the door and went inside only to instantly get the question “how was flying in the rain?” from his uncle.
Ace could only respond “well. pretty good for a while until I felt like flying as if the rain wasn’t there. crashed in a river if your wondering” Ace heard his uncle laughing before saying “sorry for me laughing but the idea is pretty funny when you think about it”
“yeah! I guess it must have been a funny sight when I was there sitting in a river after crashing down into a river” Ace replied with a chuckle and realized that his uncle was laughing even harder than he was until his uncle apologized once again only for Ace to say “its alright. I would laugh just as much if it happened to you.” before making his way upstairs do see just how funny he looked all soaked and all messed up.
Ace spent the next few weeks practicing his flying and was getting pretty good at taking off and landing not to mention that he had finally learned hovering in one place without moving around without wanting to do so and every once in a while he spent some time with Twilight and her friends and sometimes being pushed by her pegasus friend Rainbow Dash to race her.
Rainbow Dash used to address herself as “the fastest pegasus in town” every time she managed to beat Ace often leading to Twilight to making the fact clear that “Ace isn’t a very good flier compared to you Rainbow” and she had more than one way of saying that and one time when Rainbow had been twice as fast as he was he told her “at least I don’t live in a house built by clouds. Seriously that looks like a strong wind could just grab the place and take it anywhere it wanted” which got the earth pony Pinkie Pie laughing during her constant jumping before saying.
“Thats true, the wind grabs it and it flies around like my cupcakes when I throw them” which always lead to every pony around to look at her with dull faces and Ace wondering if anything will ever make sense with that pony.
And after a few more weeks Ace finally found himself a job in Cloudsdale in the storm factory where they made storms of all kinds where he worked as an assistant for the workers.
Cleaning the factory when it stared getting messy around the place and he was liked by many for his sense of humor and they always got worried when the storm clouds got stuck and some pony had to go into the machine and kick it out, sure he wasn’t the only pony willing to do that as it did give some extra bits as it wasn’t anywhere near risk free the slightest mistake would mean either an immediate death or a slow painful death , Ace used to take turns with this other pegasi named Feather Wing, a blue colt with grey mane and matching tail, he was a bit like Ace in the way that they both enjoyed the danger of going there.
Ace hated mondays but just like any day for the workers in the factory work had to be done but this monday was bit different as Ace was a few minutes late as he lived in Ponyville and sure the flight to Cloudsdale took a few minutes but the reason he was late was that he had taken too long while eating breakfast but when he got there he realized that he didn’t miss much of the day anyway but the floor needed cleaning and Feather Wing was ill so no pony had been able to clean but Ace simply replied “ill get working on it right away” as he knew very well it didn’t take long once he got the speed up.
Later during the day it was lunchtime arrived and every pony went for lunch when a coworker pegasus mare invited Ace to go get some lunch with her and her friends,
Ace noticed he had forgotten his lunchbox at home in the stress so he figured it could be nice and gladly accepted their invitation and they soon left talking about where they would eat and what they would eat.
When they got back from lunch they heard that Feather Wing would be working the other half of the day as she had gotten better and could no pony seemed to think it was a bad idea either.
when the day was almost over the lightning storm machine indicates that a cloud had gotten stuck and as it was Feather’s turn that time and he gladly but carefully went to get it free. however after a while he stick her head out from the machine and said that the cloud won’t move,
Ace decided to go help him out and they both carefully get closer to the cloud and give it a really heavy push and then it started moving and the next moment Ace looked back and he realized they where trapped, another cloud had blocked the exit and was slowly moving towards them and Ace who knew he was a lot more resistant and tougher than Feathers Ace made the decision to throw the younger between some lighting bolts now when they weren't as intensive as they would be.
after throwing the young stallion he noticed that Feather made it through without getting hit thanks to the speed he got from being thrown and then Ace decided to make one last attempt to get though the cloud pushing him towards the more intensifying net of lightning bolts, he knew that now it was zero possibility to make it through and the cloud was getting closer and closer.
Ace gathered his full strength in a desperate attempt to punch though the cloud but suddenly realized that he had used too much energy to throw Feather Wing and now he had no possibly way to get out, he was stuck in the death trap,
He felt one of the smaller bolts hit his hind leg and the next couple of minutes felt like they would never end in this world as he felt electric bolts going through his flanks and then all over his body.
It felt like he was being fried alive by burning nails and as the pain started to fade away he realized he couldn’t feel anything and he could have sworn that he heard Feathers screaming in terror and a while later his ability to see suddenly blurred out and he felt as he landed heavy on the cloud floor below.
All he could see was blurred colors moving around him some of them looked like they tried to speak to him but he heard nothing as he felt himself starting to fade away thinking this would be his last memory.
A pack of blurry colors moving around him some looking like they tried to talk to him but all he could hear was the thundering sound of lightning, the next hour was total darkness aborted by small glimpses of blurry colors moving around and never the same colors twice.
What felt like days of glimpses he suddenly felt as if he was put down and the terrain around him stopped moving around and changing between blackouts.
He could see a white roof some curtains everything else was just outside what he could even see blurs of and then he suddenly heard a familiar voice saying “is he going to be alright?” but he has no idea who it was as he could only hear it very weak though the constant never ending sound of lighting and thunder in his ears.
Ace soon felt that he should be dead long ago but if anything could be worse than a quick death this must be what the factory manager was talking about when he said “dying quick after an accident like that would be the most merciful you could ever get, otherwise you would in a way be be both dead and alive for a while and then you die slowly”
“This must be what they meant by both dead and alive dying slowly” Ace thought for himself, it felt like a never ending nightmare of nothing but pain and suffering.
After what felt like a year Ace woke up and found himself all alone in a dark room thinking that he was dead he gets surprised when a mare wearing a white coat enters and takes a look at him before turning around yelling something that sounded like “Doctor! he’s awake!”
The next moment two other doctors show up one of them being a stallion and the other one being a mare both wearing white coats and after a while the mare suddenly speak the words “Green Ace? are you alright?” Ace couldn’t think of anything to say, but it didn’t matter, he couldn’t even open his own mouth.
He wanted to respond but he couldn’t, it felt like something was holding him down and he couldn’t move at all, it felt like he was capable of moving around but when he looked around he realized that he wasn’t being held down but he still couldn’t move.
“Can you hear me?” the mare asked again and Ace felt like he was screaming but apparently the doctors couldn’t hear him or see that he tried to talk, as the mare turned to the stallion and said “I think we have to get closer to him” to which the Stallion replied “NO! we cannot have another accident like last time we tried.”
Ace tried to think of what could have happened as he didn’t remember doing anything to cause an accident until his thinking got aborted by the third mare saying “what about those suits Doctor, shouldn’t they be enough to protect us?” to which the doctor only replied “Im not sure how good the suits will protect and even IF they provide full protection he won’t be able to hear you talk to him. Im afraid we have to wait until the staff from Stalliongrad get here.”
“But that could take weeks, doesn't Manehattan have the same kind of equipment?” the second mare asked only to be answered “they had too much to work with to be able to send any pony to work it for us as we do not have the...”
“equipment?” Ace started thinking “do they think i’m a living electrical power source or what?!” until he heard the doctor saying “...without the tested equipment we need to be sure that no more accident can happen we just have to hope that he will stay alive and that is all I can say. right now I have to prioritize the safety of staff, patients and visitors who could risk getting too close by keeping the barrier around.”
Ace couldn’t believe what he had just heard, a doctor wanting to risk the life of a patient, Ace couldn't describe the anger and hatred he felt toward that doctor. he felt like he just wanted to break free and slam that doctor though the walls before tearing him apart but he couldn’t even move his own mouth so it wasn’t an option and he doesn’t want to put any other pony in danger as they barrier around was clearly there for a reason
He had only been able to see blurs around him but as he began taking it easy he could see as the blurred vision returned to normal and could now see clearly what was going on.
It felt like he could see even better that before the accident and when he started thinking of all possible reasons for the safety barrier he noticed this mare across the room, she had obviously been hit by a lighting “but how is that possible. struck by lighting in here?!” Ace heard the words rushing through his mind.
A second later it felt obvious and made perfect sense. he had been through a lighting storm machine, gotten uncountable strikes of lighting through his body and when that mare approached him a lighting bolt must have been shoot from his body and hit her.
It made perfect sense, and a few moments later he suddenly hears a voice he could actually remember, “are you alright Ace?” it was Twilight!
Ace noticed her horn glowing and after a while it stopped glowing and she turned to the doctor
“i’m not entirely sure about this but it seems as if his heart has become like a self-powering battery and turned his skeleton into what can best be described as lighting rods leading the electricity through his body. From what I can tell he doesn't seem to have suffered any damage from it but unless he can learn to keep it from striking at those around he will be a dangerous threat to every pony around.”
Ace was shocked by hearing what Twilight said, “Me! a threat against all those around?” he felt devastated and broken by hearing what Twilight told the doctor, He couldn’t listen to what they kept talking about, he just wanted to die right here and now.
But he would at least try to gain control of his electric ability so he closed his eyes and started to feel, the electricity created by each heartbeat and then flowing though his body to end at the end of his now lightning resembling mane and tail.
His heartbeat and soon he realized, he could move his hooves and legs again and when he slowly started to use his head to look around he noticed that all of Twilight’s friends where there, he didn’t know why they where there but just thinking of that they all barely knew him and now they where there for him made him feel like he wasn’t alone with just an uncle and some other ponies who would put up with his sense of humor.
but not even that could daze the burning hatred for that doctor.
After a few weeks for being in the hospital he got a visit from Feathers, Ace was sleeping in his solitary but he woke up as he heard some familiar hooves, Feather Wing was there to visit him.
Ace pretended to be asleep as figured it was best for them both, the colt wasn’t good at holding back feelings and wasn’t the smartest out there either.
But that didn’t mean that Ace shouldn’t listen as the colt spoke to him, “I notice your asleep but thats ok, I just wanted to thank you for saving my life that day and I wanted you to know that the wonderbolts are making a special show for you later today. Maybe if your awake at that point you might wanna attend and watch, they are making a special show dedicated to you for what you did.”
Ace noticed as Feathers left the room doing his best to hold back his tears but as soon as he was outside the room and in the corridor he broke into tears.
Ace noticed that and began thinking “im not supposed to be able to hear anything for out there...” and a moment later he could suddenly hear ponies talking down the lobby and suddenly realized that he could improve his hearing as he wanted.
“I can see better than before and now I can hear better if I want to...” then he heard as the doctor arrived to the hospital talking to some group of stallions telling them to be careful and what had happened earlier to the mare who got too close without protection.
Ace heard a stallion telling the doctor “We got everything and more to keep ourselves safe not to mention and two of us are electrical engineers and im the only doctor of us all.”
“so they want a challenge? come at me ill take you head on” Ace thought as the doctor lead the group from Stalliongrad up the stairs and into the room where Ace was being kept.
“Ace, you gotta let these ponies do their job and we will likely be able to make sure you will not be bothered by all the electricity you have to deal with now” the doctor told him.
“REMOVE THIS FROM ME!!!” Ace realized in his head before thinking “first you leave me to fight for survival and now you wanna take it away and pretend like nothing hapened! not while i’m alive!”
As the electrical engineers from Stalliongrad closed in on him Ace let all the electricity he could spare to send two bolts striking directly against the engineers walking towards him in suits to protect them.
when they got hit they where sent flying just like the unlucky mare earlier, only difference was that these two ended up landing just as far away as the mare did and the next moment Ace made a jump from his bed and started moving towards the two doctors now looking at him in nothing but fear.
Probably thinking they where next, but Ace knew that the doctor from Stalliongrad wasn’t of interest as he kept moving towards the Ponyville doctor. A blue stallion with white mane and tail and a syringe as cutie mark not to mention those yellow eyes which Ace would never forget.
He would NEVER forget his hatred toward that doctor and as he got close enough to go hoof to hoof against the doctor Ace told him “Hey Doc! think faster than a lightning” before letting a small shock against the doctor striking his knees and forcing the doctor down to the ground watching as Ace used his lighting power to strike a hole in the wall and run towards it and jump out before taking flight and leaving the hospital.
Ace kept flying he came thinking where she should go thinking “I can’t go back to my uncle, they will find me too fast for me to plan all the fun I have in mind for me and the doctor. I will make him feel exactly what I felt, what he put me through but the exception that he will be dead when i’m done with him...”
that was all Ace had time to think before he suddenly heard Rainbow Dash telling him to stop right there and for a moment Ace actually stopped and gave Rainbow a quick look telling her to back off right before telling her to “BACK OFF RAINBOW!” only for Rainbow to reply “not until you are back at the hospital!” which caused Ace anger to rise even more.
The next moment he was going full speed against Rainbow Dash and they passed each others with only a few inches to spare Ace turned and went after Rainbow who barely managed to dodge a lighting bolt that was thrown at her and the next moment she had to dodge a second lighting bolt.
The next moment she realized that Ace was escaping and decided to chase after him thinking she could easily beat him until the moment when he suddenly made a dive into the everfree forest Rainbow heard Twilight telling her to stop trying to catch Ace and before Rainbow had time to reply to what Twilight told her a sudden strike came out of nowhere knocking her to the ground.
She soon realized that Ace was making a dive to strike and before she had time to move away she was picked up by Ace who later dropped her into the middle of Ponyville, she landed heavily on the ground and did make a few uncontrolled barrel rolls breaking her wings and then she crashed into one of the market stands.
Ace didn’t care about her for now, he had to get away from there to avoid being captured and as he was flying towards where he had been born he knew it would be a long flight so he better get flying as fast a possible.
He did know a lot of good places where no pony would go unless forced to.
“Grab onto me Ace” some voice spoke aborting Ace thinking, “grab onto me Ace and your flight will be cut short” he heard again and noticed some sort of light below him.
“Could be fun” Ace said to himself and grabbed onto the flash and suddenly he felt himself traveling at speeds a lot faster than what Rainbow Dash could ever achieve, maybe even with her sonic rainboom but those weren’t exactly normal as far as Ace knew and only a minute later he noticed himself passing over his old home.
Ace landed a bit outside his home and didn't mind walking for a short while and right after the landing he realized.
His CUTIE MARK had appeared on his flank.
It was the shape of three identical lightning bolts, one red, one yellow and the middle one being blue, after noticing his cutie mark and managed to come up with a good story for it he started walking towards the house.
He soon earned the looks of his brother whom he had by accident soaked all those years ago when he only had school and they all where just little fillies. “Ace?” his brother asked when Ace came walking slightly covered in the darkness as the evening was beginning to turn into night.
“yes brother, i’m back” Ace replied without thinking much further and the next moment Ace brother burst into tears and started crying but these weren’t tears of sadness, they where tears of joy and while crying the brother could only say “we waited for your letter so long, why didn’t you write the letter you promised us?”
Ace felt ashamed as he realized he had completely forgotten to write them the letter when he arrived to Ponyville.
“I forgot” was the only thing Ace could say as it was the truth and before he could say anything else one of his sisters came running and a few minutes later Ace noticed as all the rest of his brothers and sisters joined the group hug.
And only a few minutes later they backed off and Ace could see the one who has been burnt into his memory. Looking out from the front door was his mother. Ace wouldn’t believe his eyes, she was just like he remembered her and it didn’t take long for her to talk to him.
“I can’t believe you are here, back home with us all. why don’t you come inside with us Ace?”
They all went into the house as his mother had suggested to him.
She told him how worried she was when his brother read the newspaper and showed her the article about the accident in Cloudsdale but she didn’t want to believe that he was the one who had been exposed to all that lightning.
She told him what the article had said and that the article only had a picture of the machine and no description of the unlucky pegasus.
After a while she asked Ace if he had any special reason for returning home Ace told them the truth “i’ve made a few mistakes in Ponyville and need somewhere they won’t find me...”
“Don’t worry” his sister aborted him before continuing, “we will make sure no pony you don’t want close gets close.” and Ace noticed that all his brothers and sisters agreed and then his brother asked him “who are we supposed to keep away from you?”
Ace showed the pictures he had of Twilight and her friends and told them what he knew about their personality for each pony he wanted them to keep away from him.
Only a few days later Ace was told by his sister who was working in a small shop in town that she had seen Applejack and Rarity walking around and Ace brother also told him that he had seen Fluttershy alongside a bruised and bandaged Rainbow Dash.
Ace looked at them before saying “Then my guess is they are all here looking for me, maybe I should get moving if they know I might be here...”
“You stay here! we will keep you hidden” his brother aborted him, Ace told them “I don’t know if you are aware of this but Twilight Sparkle is Princess Celetsia’s personal student and you have kept me hidden this far, but if they are here it won’t take long until they find out that you are hiding and things could get dangerous for any pony around. I should get out of here while I still can”
Ace went for the door as he heard his sister asking him “Can you at least wait until tomorrow so we can create a good distraction for you?” Ace stopped close to the door and looked back inside to tell his brothers and sisters.
“if I stay much longer they might find out...”
Suddenly their conversation was aborted when some pony knocked the door and Ace heard a voice belonging to Twilight asking “Hello? Anyone home?”
Ace narrowed his eyes and whispered to his brothers and sisters.
“you are about witness the true reason to my cutie mark. and you better back off a bit” and his brothers backed off his sisters soon followed after saying “give them what’s coming to them.”
Ace gave her a quick nod and then he released a powerful lightning bolt which made the door fly out and almost hit Twilight who quickly used her magic to redirect the door but didn’t realize that the door would go airborne and the next second Fluttershy barely managed to dodge the flying door only to be knocked out of the sky by the fast flying Ace who used his lightning ability to escape.
soon he was clear of the building and he summoned the flash he used during his last flight and grabbed onto it leaving Twilight and her friends as they was trying to find out why his family had lied to them when they where asked if they had seen him.
The only city Ace had as now would be Manehattan where he had no relatives what so ever, “thats probably how they found me, my relatives” he told himself before he kept thinking. “I need a place where I don’t have any relatives, someplace where i’m difficult to find like Manehattan” and after making his decision Ace soon made a landing in Manehattan where he got no rest as he had hoped for.
Two royal guards had spotted him and where now to get him and probably hand him over to Twilight and her friends, his enemies for now.
Ace hated being hunted and he decided not to run, there was only two guards and when the guards got close enough Ace sent a lightning bolt and scored a perfect hit and the guard to the left who fell to the ground.
Ace turned his head to the second guard who was now looking at Ace in fear and begged Ace to not strike with another bolt and Ace in a way agreed as he gave the guard a hoof to the jaw and then telling the guard to save his friend who wouldn’t survive much longer without medical attention.
Ace knew himself, he wasn’t a killer but if they didn’t know when to back off it’s their own fault not his, “quickly, in here!” he heard a voice saying and not wanting to wait for more guards to arrive he went into the alleyway the voice came from and found two stallion pegasi and two mare pegasi in suits and googles just like the ones used by the wonderbolts used but these where pitch black and so where the googles.
“we know who you are Green Ace, we know you want revenge against that doctor who left you to fight for your life and once you got your ability under control he wanted to remove it from you. join us and they won’t even know what has happened when they find him dead and gutted.” the voice knew what he wanted.
“Sounds Good!” Ace replied....
Chapter 3
“Why did you do it?!” Twilight asked the remaining ponies after Ace made his escape.
“You will never catch him, he’s too good for you even when he is asleep” the brother replied, and after a few minutes of trying to get the brothers and sisters to tell her where Ace would go she finally gave up and left the building and as they walked away.
Twilight started thinking for herself that if they don’t find him soon there is no way of telling what he could possibly do and after a few months of searching every corner of Ponyville and Manehattan without any results.
“How can he just disappear like this?” Twilight said to herself and a few moments later Rainbow Dash now capable of flying again arrived saying she heard Twilight talking to herself and made a statement that “he is obviously a master of staying hidden when he want to.”
“I know that Rainbow but we don’t have much time until the Nightmare Night Festival is here and it wouldn’t be surprising if he showed up there without us knowing it, we have to be prepared, maybe I should write and ask the princess for help in case he shows up. I don’t wanna underestimate him once again and now he seems to have learned more about how to use his lightning capabilities.”
Twilight began writing her letter.
Dear Princess Celestia.
as you may know we have a problem regarding Green Ace, after his accident he has gone mad, this far he has escaped both times we got close to him I fear he might be planning a strike against us during Nightmare Night Festival and I would like for you to send some royal guards to be ready just in case.
Your Faithful Student
It was to be a perfectly normal nightmare night festival and it was.
Until the moment when a small group of unrecognizable pegasi dropped out of the black clouds and dropped fire bombs setting parts of the festival area ablaze and a few minutes later a group of wonderbolts came down from the sky going after the group of pegasi but the battle was cut short.
when two of the masked pegasi grabbed one of the wonderbolts and threw her into a trashcan with great precision and the rest used their hooves to beat the wonderbolts who where forced to retreat when one of the wonderbolts got her wing crushed and another wonderbolt forced to crash into one of the houses.
The next moment Soarin‘ felt as he was being forced towards the ground by a pegasus and left unable to fight back and the next moment he realized the fact that he was used as a shield as they crashed and when he finally was able to get up he noticed more than twelve cuts and some bleeding badly.
He heard as Spitfire called for retreat and noticed her making her way down to him watching with him as the group left the area and later ordering the wonderbolts to assist in getting control of all the fires in Ponyville and search for wounded.
Later back in Manehattan the unknown group arrived at their safe house and first thing Ace said was
“Those wonderbolts always gotta mess everything up. At least they might think twice before they go against us again.” and later he removed his mask as he noticed a letter on the table addressed to him.
Ace opened it after finding out that it was from his uncle.
Dear Ace
Something terrible has happened in Ponyville, some masked pegasi dropped in during the Nightmare Night Festival and dropped firebombs but i’m alright as you know, it takes more than some firebombs to beat your old uncle, anyway I know you are having a great time with friends as you said to me in your last letter but right now I would like for you to return to me for a while. don’t worry about being hunted by Twilight and her friends anymore i’ve spoken to them and they now understand that you where left to deal with the electric you absorbed during the accident and then you got mad when they suddenly wanted to remove it once you had it under control.
Your Uncle
Ace closed the letter and told the others that he had to go back to his uncle as he knew it could very a horrible to experience when it came to this kind of events.
if you had no pony to talk about it with who could understand you it would be like a never ending nightmare. It didn’t take long for Ace to pack his saddlebags and then right before he left he thanked his brothers best friend for letting them use his new 4 room apartment for safe haven.
Ace was soon on his way down the stairs and when he got out the street he spread his wings normally.
“better not gain too much attention” he thought himself quietly before he jumped into the air and flew normally to Ponyville hoping not to meet Rainbow Dash as she had definitely not forgotten that beating that kept her grounded for nearly a month.
Ace started figuring out reasons to hope he wouldn’t meet Twilight or her friends as Twilight had barely been able to dodge a door he used lightning to throw at her and when escaping knocking Fluttershy out of the sky only to escape.
“you all probably hate me but thats ok for me, I don’t like you very much either” Ace told himself and as he arrived to Ponyville he figured he was lucky that he made it to his uncle without Twilight or any of her friends noticing him.
It didn’t take long for his uncle to notice that Ace was back with him and Ace figured he better get the saddlebags to his room and went upstairs to place them under the bed where he used to have them earlier and made sure that the had left the flight suit and goggles in Manehattan as he knew his uncle wouldn’t be happy to find out the truth.
Ace was hoping that the others could come up with a way contact him without getting his uncle suspicious and Ace went downstairs to see if his uncle needed any pony to talk to after what happened during Nightmare Night with all the fire and wonderbolts being beaten.
They began talking about the events of the last Nightmare Night Festival but they soon got interrupted when some pony knocked the door and as the sound of that Ace could feel as if his body told him not to open the door but it was too late.
His uncle had already opened and Ace reacted to who the voice asking for him was. Applejack! she was definitely looking for him and wouldn’t be surprised if she already had her lasso ready to catch him but that would alright, he had some lightning ready if needed.
It didn’t take for Applejack to convince Ace uncle to let her talk to him when she noticed that he was actually there with narrowed eyes looking at her.
Applejack prepared her lasso but never got the opportunity to use it as Ace ran past her and gave her legs a small lighting bolt just enough to force her down so he could make his escape up to his room to get his saddlebags and get away.
He was just about to leave when he was blocked off by Rarity and Twilight who used their magic to create some sort of barrier to stop him from using the front door to escape but they soon realized they should have blocked the window on the second floor too when Ace used a lightning bolt to make it scatter into pieces and used the newly created escape route to get away only to soon notice a blue pegasi chasing after him.
Ace looked at her, “Didn’t you get enough last time Rainbow? Don’t worry I wouldn’t mind breaking those wings for you once again.”
“Not this time Ace” Rainbow replied as she was chasing after him and Ace made a sudden turn to deliver a heavy hit on Rainbow’s flank instantly destabilizing her and he surprised her by forcing her into a cloud and got away only to notice five royal guards coming towards him in a would be failed attempt to capture him.
Ace used his lightning to strike two of them and leaving them falling to the ground but these wasn’t backing off either as he had expected.
“excellent” Ace taught for himself as he made a dive towards one of the guards knocking him into the guard next to him and the next minute he was once again chased by Rainbow Dash who was back for more “you just don’t know when to stop, do you?” Ace asked her.
Sure she had caught him off guard and he barely managed to dodge as Rainbow tried grab him and dive towards the ground and as Rainbow passed him Ace looked at her.
“Here, let me help you” and he grabbed Rainbow’s wings and made a dive only to release her seconds before they would both crash and escaped himself and after casting a quick look at the building where he had thrown Rainbow only to noticed that ironically he had dropped her right outside the hospital.
Then he left for Manehattan as he now knew that they would still do their best to hunt him down.
Ace arrived in Manehattan and rejoined with his friends he asked them if they would still follow the plans to bring back Nightmare Moon to bring upon nighttime eternal.
“Yes but there is one problem, we need a victim, as the ritual needs blood and unless one of us are going to cut their throat we need a victim.”, “does it matter whose blood it is?” Ace asked,
“no, and good news are that we have found a group willing to help us and they will preform the ritual all they need of us is a victim and Luna of course.” Ace knew this would be a problem. “so. who do we capture first?”
“the victim of course, Luna can be tracked by magic so once she goes missing so the ritual has to be prepared before Luna gets there.” and after the group had decided that they would get the victim first they started talking about who would be an fairly easy target and wasn’t noticed very often and soon the target was decided.
Rainbow Dash, sure she was noticed and all but Ace wanted was revenge.
But to get her they needed a bait, Raindrops, a pegasi with light gold coat, light cyan mane and tail, cyan eyes. She was the perfect bait not very noticed unless looked for and it didn’t take long for the group to track her down.
Raindrops was flying home in the night like she usually didn’t do and as she was flying she noticed some sort of light on one of the clouds and when she went to closer to see what it was.
Her wings where suddenly grabbed by two other pegasi and not long after she was grabbed sone pony put a bag over her face and tells her.
“it’s useless to resist so just save it for later when you can at least see what your fighting” and a moment later Ace noticed that she had stopped trying to break free and as the group landed outside Ponyville in order to tie her hooves and wings to make sure she wouldn’t be able to fight back at any point Ace noticed as they are being pursued by a royal guard running towards them Ace notified the others.
They quickly escaped as Ace went for the guard, giving him a quick buck right into the face giving him a small skull fracture and left him bleeding in a ditch. When the they arrived at Manehattan early that morning Ace came thinking of that the leader was still owing him a favor when from a few weeks back when he was captured by royal guards and was pinned down until Ace used his lightning to make the guards back off and when the leader told the mares to place Raindrops where they had landed until they could find a better place to keep her Ace went forward.
“I want Raindrops to be where I sleep, I know you guys won’t stay away from her, and you still owe me a favor.” the leader knew well that it was true and asked “you get her there yourself?” as a sign to Ace “Yeah, wont be much of a problem.” and then Ace grabbed the rope the mares had used to carry Raindrops and lifter her into his room where he was sleeping and removed the bag over her face so she at least would know what was around.
It was a simple room, not much more than a bed and not long after he placed Raindrops on the ground he went for a second bed and when he got back he noticed the questioning look Raindrops gave him and then he asked her “if you don’t start screaming and yelling I can remove the rope they placed in your mouth to keep you quiet” a minute later Ace noticed as Raindrops gave him a nod and he removed it.
He had hoped Raindrops wouldn’t start asking questions but he knew it was unavoidable, “how much longer will I be trapped here? and what’s next?” Ace could only tell her “good news are you won’t be here very long unless something goes wrong, and what’s next is that you need to help us truck Rainbow Dash.” Ace noticed as Raindrops look at him as if they where mad until the moment when Ace told her.
“we have all suffered downfalls but I seem to have take the least damage from mine and the reason why I keep you here is so I can make sure they won’t get their hooves on you and they will if they get the opportunity to do so.” and a minute later he gave Raindrops a quill feather, some ink and a piece of paper and told her to write a message to Rainbow Dash about meeting her in Manehattan alone.
In Ponyville Ace uncle had been accused of helping a wanted criminal to escape and not long after Ace left the royal guard had captured him and taken him as prisoner when he refused to help them track Ace and a few days later Rainbow Dash was out flying like usual until she got a letter from a pegasus she didn’t really know.
Dear Rainbow Dash
I have some information about Ace you might want to hear but you have to meet me alone in Manehattan, if you want the information send me a letter so I know you are coming and I will to do my best finding a safe area where I can tell you all I know.
Not long after Rainbow had read the letter she wrote a reply, if this could lead her to Ace it was worth the risk of going alone and after the letter was sent Rainbow left for Manehattan, she had two beatings to return to Ace and when she arrived in Manehattan she quickly made her way to the safe house where she would be given the information she was seeking.
And as the mares began talking suddenly all the lightbulbs exploded from being overcharged and Raindrops knew what this meant as she did her best to hide from Rainbow and a few moments later Rainbow found herself tied and stuck in some sort of cellar.
But it was too big for a cellar and when she looked around she could see small channels leading between two identical altars that could only be described as sacrificial altars and it seemed the only difference was that the empty one was still empty and as the switch was turned lights revealed something Rainbow couldn’t even dream of, symbols and all kinds of ritual equipment, all from tiny spikes enough to go through a hoof to gear like butcher knives and small pipes,
Some of the equipment was blood stained and not long after she was done looking around she noticed the group that had dropped the firebombs during Nightmare Night Festival and beaten the wonderbolts
She couldn’t speak a word when she noticed as Raindrops made a pass above, “had Raindrops been in this from the beginning?” was the only question in her mind at the time until her thinking was aborted when she noticed as Princess Luna was being brought in and placed on the altar placed and not long after both Rainbow and Luna had been placed in the proper positions.
Shortly after Ace moved close to Rainbows ear and whispered
“this will only hurt a little while so don’t you worry” before walking away with an evil grin, Rainbow had no idea who it was and the next moment she noticed as Raindrops followed and began thinking “what is this? am I going to die here, I can’t die here this is way to scary for me to die here” and after a while the group backed off and now Rainbow could see as another group bigger arrived, these where dressed in some sort of robes and they soon formed a circle around her and Luna.
Ace returned with some sort of medical syringe and the moment the contents of it was ejected into Luna she woke up and screamed in terror as if she had just woken from a nightmare and as Luna asked Rainbow what was going on Ace aborted them by talking to the group.
“we have all gathered here to reawaken the mare who was taken away from us all by the tyrant” and then looking down on Rainbow as he and the others in the group removed their masks.
The next moment Rainbow asked “who are they bringing back? we haven’t taken some pony away from them...” only to be aborted by Luna saying “They are planning to bring back Nightmare Moon!”
Not long after some weird chantings started filling the room and after a while Luna’s coat started to turn very dark blue and her mane turning blue violet and her eyes started changing to the ones of Nightmare Moon and soon the voice of Nightmare Moon started repeating the words “Blood” and not long after that Raindrops arrived to Ace with a small knife and as Ace closed in on Rainbow Dash with the knife in his hooves Rainbow started feeling like this was the end of the line.
the point from where she would be take away and the world would have to live without any Rainbow Dash and as the knife first made a small cut to allow the blood of Rainbow to pour down into the channels leading down to Luna being transformed into Nightmare Moon
Soon a second cut made even more blood starting to pour down and soon Rainbow could feel all her pain starting to fade away and the next moment she heard as Ace told the others to “get the pipes, its time now” and soon one of the robe wearing ponies arrived with them and they where carefully pushed into Luna’s belly to lead the blood from Rainbow and the next moment Ace told an earth pony to remove the leather straps that was used to keep Luna down. But now Luna was too weak to move as Nightmare Moon was beginning to take over her body and to the horror of Rainbow who was still alive it seemed as if it would actually work and Nightmare Moon would return to bring upon nighttime eternal.
Rainbow didn’t get to think much longer as a hole in the wall caused by some explosive disrupted the whole process but Ace who was always wearing the mask on to hide who he was began looking for an escape.
He knew that Rainbow would bleed out soon anyway and as royal guards kept moving into the building capturing both the ponies dressed in robes and the masked ones he used to fly with.
they all got pinned down and before anyone had time to react Twilight and her friends stormed into the building followed by Princess Celestia.
Ace knew it would only take minutes for the ritual to be completed but now he started doubt that the time would be enough.
The next moment he began targeting those who got close to Luna with lightning bolts only to end up against Princess Celestia in a fight to see who could push a ball of lightnings and as they both seemed to be equally strong the lightning ball just kept getting bigger and bigger until the moment when Celestia decided that it would be too dangerous and threw it above the city.
Ace used the distraction to escape thinking Celestia would send guards after him but he soon noticed that Celestia decided to let him run and as she got closer to Luna and Rainbow Dash she realized that the ones in the room and that escaped pegasi had almost succeeded in their ritual.
She had heard rumors of this sort of rituals but did’t believe it was possible and now she had been proven wrong.
She used her magic to stop Rainbow Dash from bleeding out and to save Luna and as Rainbow Dash was freed from the leather straps Twilight asked if Rainbow had any idea who that pegasi who escaped was, however Rainbow dash couldn’t remember anything else than that she was captured and that Celestia used her magic to save her life, everything in between is just blurry and she couldn’t remember any names and when Luna started to wake up and regain control from Nightmare Moon she couldn’t remember anything either.
Far away from Manehattan Ace had used his ability to leave Raindrops back where she belonged in Ponyville and before he left he gave her a letter telling her not to open it until he had left and then he left in a flash.
Dear Raindrops
When you read this i’m far way and we will probably never see each others again but if you see me again don’t hesitate with approaching me, you will recognize me when you see me walking or maybe flying. Either way don’t let any tears fall i’m not worth it after what I did to those around me. Right now Im probably on my way to some place lonely where I will think about what i’ve done and if I am the pony intended to carry the ability I got.
Ace was true with every word he had written in the letter, Ace had been able to find a well hidden cave.
He had removed his suit and it was on the ground beside the fire and Ace remembered what he had done while wearing it.
He wasn’t proud of his actions and if those he had harmed and destroyed the lives for would ever catch up with him he wouldn’t run away anymore. He would face them headon and take their anger.
It didn’t take long for Ace to start feeling his tears run down his cheeks as he went to sleep and for once in a long time he could once again feel as his heartbeat and the feeling of lightning going through his body.
He fell asleep in the well hidden cave he found not long after passing by Cloudsdale. Maybe he should have his lightning ability removed and he could have a normal life as a normal pegasi. He woke up the next morning feeling better after getting some sleep, the only good he had done the day before was escaping from being captured.
