My Book of Shadows
Chapter 1: Shadows and Friends
I’m not sure what had happened in the last hour. I’m not even sure that it even was an hour. It might have been 10 minutes, or 10 days. No matter how long I was out though, the pain feels the same. It stretches all the way up to my temples, then inching in burning flames towards my waist and then singing my legs and toes. I have no clue where I am, or how I even got here. This place is much different from my home. Here, the trees are flourished and bright. The branches of the trees twist and turn and curve right down to the roots. The leaves flash an attractive green that I can’t seem to look away from. I must look weird, staring at the trees like that. But I can’t seem to pull myself away from the beautiful growth around me. I was so lost in thought that I hadn’t noticed the pony beside me. I turned quickly, looking at her up and down. A soft pink mane fell in front of one of her baby blue eyes, and it seemed to curl at the end. Her face was fixed in confusion as she stared at me, her endless seas of blue staring at me with concern. She had a nice warm vanilla coat that seemed to fit perfectly with her mane. I didn’t even hear her speak up until I drew myself away from her looks.
“H-hello?” She whispered. I tilted my head and looked at her.
“Hi…” I managed, looking her up and down again.
“A-are you alright?” She started. “Are you new here?” I bit my lip and chuckled silently. ~Yeah, you could say that…~ I thought, straying away from her for a couple of seconds. Her soft but concerned voice snapped me back into reality.
“What’s your name?” She asked politely.
“Lollytwist.” I stated, looking at her and noticing at the many similarities in looks her and I shared. She smiled a nice and warm-loving smile.
“It’s nice to meet you Lollytwist. My name is Fluttershy…” She said, smiling another warm smile.
“Do you need a place to stay?” She asked wholeheartedly. I shook my head before she could even finish her question. Fluttershy scuffed her hoof on the soft grass below.
“Are you sure?” She asked again. I nodded. “Yep.” Fluttershy smiled widely.
“Oh!! I know! How about I show you to my other friends!” She stated. I bit my lip and tilted my head.
“Oh, you don’t have t-“No! It’s no trouble really!” She cut me off, looking around at the trees. I raised an eyebrow.
“It’s fine… I’m serious.” I said, looking into her eyes. I saw her mouth open for protest, but I stopped and froze her myself. My hooves seeped into her shadow, causing her to become motion less. Oh wait. Maybe I should explain this to you. I’m the Guardian of Shadows. I can take any shadow of anything and fuck it up. I can bend a pipe in half with just my mind. It’s weird, and I’m not sure how I got the ability.
I pulled myself from her shadow and flew off. I don’t have wings, but since I have a shadow, I can pick myself off the ground and fly. But I was quickly thrown to the ground when I heard a loud boom. The force of the impact threw me against a tree.
“Mother of god, what on earth was that?” I mumbled to myself, picking branches and leaves off of me. I quickly stood up and examined my body for any scratches or broken bones. Nope. Nothing. Good. I smiled and took off again, but before I could get high enough, Fluttershy’s sweet voice pulled me back down to the ground. I rolled my eyes and turned around to face a calm and collected Fluttershy.
“I’m sorry for spacing out back there…” She said. “I just don’t know what happened!” She giggled. I took in a breath and started to tap my hoof impatiently. She must have noticed, for her eyes grew big, worrying that I would get mad at her.
“There’s this party for this royal pony named Cloud tonight. He’s really famous here. He’s the Gaurdian of just about everything! He’s basically indestructible, and he helps keep all my animals safe… Anyway Everyone is invited to this party, so I wanted to know if you would like to come. I think it would be good for you; that way you could meet all the ponies that go. Then you won’t seem much of a stranger around anypony anymore…” Fluttershy stated. I shrugged and rolled my eyes, nodding.
“Yeah… yeah I’ll come…” I said, giving in to her sweet and kind voice. Because, I mean, how can you turn that down?
Her face lit up and she smiled. “Oh great!” She started. “The parties in a half an hour, so we could start walking now!” I nodded. The only reason I was going was to crash the party.
Fluttershy took off on a trot down a solid concrete road that led into a small town. I followed closely behind her, and she quietly chatted on about how much I’d love all the ponies here. Truthfully, I was more interested in messing everything up behind us. Like a tree that I knocked over for instance. Fluttershy didn’t seem to hear, but I was laughing my ass off, and trying to hide it the best I could. She never once did turn around to check on me. I just shrugged her off and started shaking all the leaves off all the trees behind us.
When we got to the party, it looked as if everypony in Equestria were here, holy shit. I rolled my eyes and took in a deep breath, heading for the door with Fluttershy leading, but I stopped a little behind and plastered an evilish grin on my face. I chuckled quietly before disappearing in the shadow of a nearby table.
Fluttershy knocked on the door to the party, and a guy with Jet black and red hair smiled at her just as a guy was leaving. Fluttershy seemed to back down a little from him.
“O-oh.. Hi Cloud…” She managed, still acting very shy. Well, I know why they call her Fluttershy now. The pony that was all black smiled at her again.
“So what are you doing here-“ I cut off his sentence by picking up a table by it’s shadow and chucking it across the porch. It smashed into a railing. That did It for me. I burst out laughing harder than I ever had. The black pony was looking around curiously, wondering where the hell the laughing was coming from. Every other pony was silent a long with him.
“What the hell?” He called out, still hearing laughing even though everypony around him was queit. I moved up the steps and collapse on the porch again in a heap of laughter. I could hear that black pony saying things, but I couldn’t here over the sound of me laughing my ass off. Before I knew it, the pony was in my face with some sort of weapon.
“Uhhh, who the hell are you?” He asks, looking at me up and down. I wipe the tears from my eyes and look up at him.
“I’m Lollytwist.” I manage, trying my best not to laugh again. He just shakes his head at me.
“How’d you get here?” He asks. I get to my feet and look at him, smiling.
“Well, I met Fluttershy in the meadows a couple hours ago, and she invited me to this party to hang out and meet ponies.” I pause for a moment. “So you must be Cloud.” I state. He nods and grins.
“The only one!” He chimes in. I take in a breath.
“Yeah… Fluttershy’s told me about you…” I hear him sigh.
“One more question…” Cloud says. I nod at look at him. “How the hell did you flip that table without being seen?” He asks. I grin. Finally I get to talk about me!
“Well, I can turn into a shadow, and mess with that object any way I’d like. I can tamper and destroy anything that has a shadow.” I stated.
“That’s friggin’ cool!!!” He exclaims. I throw my hands up in the air. “I KNOW RIGHT!” I shouted back. Cloud lowers his voice and smiles at me again.
“Well, I guess you can come meet everypony now...” He says. I sigh and shake my head.
“No…. they’ll be afraid of me…” I said. He shakes his head vigorously.
“Look at me! They aren’t afraid of me!!” He says. “Well I hope not…” I hear him whisper to himself. I sigh and smile.
“Oh, alright I guess… But only cuz you’re cute…” I say, grabbing his hand and pulling him into the house. I see him ponder my statement as I drag him into the party. I suddenly felt really self conscious when all the ponies gasped at me. Cloud made me feel better.
“HEY. ALRIGHT EVERYONE, MEET LOLLYTWIST!” He exclaims happily. I blush and roll my eyes.
“I don’t like attention…” I mutter under my breath.
