Chapter 4: What to Wear...

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Brown boot met the tarnished wood of the train station as Revan, Luna, Vinyl Scratch and Soarin' Highwing left the brightly colored, steam powered train.

As the sun shined from the east and across the horizon on the cool Autumn morning, Vinyl Scratch let out a large shout of joy. "Wow, that train was cramped!" She exclaimed as she stretched her arms out as far as she could, her white hoodie shielding her from most of the cold. "Hey, L? Maybe next time you could pull a few strings and maybe not have ride coach?"

The princess smiled as the gang began to move from the train terminal, her charmed silken blue garments protecting her from the chills of the fall. "Personally, I prefer riding in coach," she replied, yawning afterword from the hour long nap she'd taken on the trip. "I am always pampered, so it is nice to get out to see how my subjects travel."

"Well, maybe next time," the blue haired music mage began, now stretching backward and hearing a couple of pops from her spine. "You can ride coach and let me be the one getting pampered."

"I would totally pamper you all night long," muttered the blue winged man with goggles and a flight jacket as a just barely audible level, admiring the musician's stretches with a half cocked grin on his face. His face then went straight ass he realized that his thoughts had become vocalized. "Did I say that out loud?"

"Sure did, Flight Risk," she shot him a grin, throwing her arm right around him, shooting him a grin. "But tell I you what," she moved closer to his hear, beginning to whisper in a more seductive voice, her her hot breath brushing past his cold skin. "You beat Revan in a match, and I might let you 'pamper' me all you want, Kay?"

His heart began to skip a beat as he began to smile. "Doesn't he realize what she just-"

The princess cut off the knight with an amused smile on her face. "Give it a second."

"Oh come on!" The flight officer shouted out at his supposed friends. "No fair!"

"Haha!" Luna let out a laugh. "It's nice to see that we're all fast friends here."

Revan only shrugged with a slightly impish smile on his face, his right arm still half asleep from when Luna fell asleep on his shoulder during the trip. "What are you talking about Luna? Highwind isn't my friend."

Soarin' let out a growl. "That's right. Everyone make fun of the world famous trick flyer. We'll just see if any of you ever get my autograph. Then you'll all be sorry"

"I have one already," Vinyl countered.

"As do I," the princess followed.

"And I'm friends with a princess," Revan began with a shrug. "So I could probably get one if I asked her."

A brief awkward silence ensured. "You guys suck," the flight officer grumbled as the gang moved through the technicolored village.

As the quartet's feet fell to the dirt ground of the small hamlet, Revan couldn't help but think he'd stepped even further back in time to a place that he'd only heard of and seen in holovids passed down over thousands of generations. He smiled as he remembered one of his old friends quips. I was young when Coruscant was a small town with a well", Jolee Bindo had once said. Revan smiled as he couldn't help but think that most of his more painful thoughts from the war.

It was nice.

He smiled fondly at those memories as he continued to pass by a bakery called 'Sugar Cube Corner'. Thet's when Vinyl Scratch spoke up. "So where are we going anyway, Princess?"

She simply kept her head forward as the group followed her through the brightly colored, dirt paved town. "Rarity Belle, Ms. Vinyl," she answered with a smile on her face. "A great tailor, and an even better friend."

Revan only nodded, remembering the recent research he'd done into the subject matter so he wouldn't feel like a child during conversations. "I see. Is she really that good?"

"The best, R!" Vinyl exclaimed, through her white covered arm over the guest to Equestria. "I remember, at the royal wedding? She designed all of the bride's maids dresses! It was wicked cool," then took on a smirk of epic proportions, throwing her arm throwing her arms around the princess and her knight. "But who knows? Maybe this time I'll get to be one of the brides maids wearing the-"

"Vinyl!" Luna called out her plebeian friend, her cheeks now scarlet.

"Alright, alright," she backed off of both of them, throwing her hands up and smiling all the while as she did so. "So the wedding bells are still a ways off, but!" She adjusted her sun-glasses as they began to fall, some how adding to the illusion that she knew exactly how the relationship between the night shepherd and the warrior sage would play out. "That does not, under no circumstance, mean it won't-"

"Lo!" Princess Luna shouted in pure joy that the conversation was over, pointing towards a rounded building, designed after a carousel or a merry-go-round, still a few yards away, but still very much within easy view. "The Carousel boutique!" She grabbed Revan's hand and ran straight for it. "Come, my friend!"

The blue haired young woman just stared at her more regal friend and the man the DJ shipped so hard with her run down the street, away from her inane ramblings of what will happen between the two in the future. "Well I was done talking anyway!" She then turned to Soarin' Highwind. "So what'll you be doin', then, Flight Risk?"

"Hiding, probably," he answered nonchalantly, his hands in his coat pockets and moving his goggles over his eyes.

"Why's that?"

"Ex-girlfriend," he moved his right hand to the back of his head as he looked away. "I... may have left her in the middle of the night and she... may have an older brother twice my size and she... may be one of the-" he left that sentence unfinished as his ears perked up to the sound of galloping, followed soon by the scent of apples. "And that would be my cue to leave!" His wings extended as he took flight into the frosty, blue sky.

Vinyl Scratch only laughed as she moved her own hands into her pockets to keep them warm. "I have the craziest friends," she admitted as she followed the princess and the object of her newly found affections.

...

"Sweetie, be a dear and fetch me that marvelous golden rope, will you?" A high pitched and fanciful voice rung out from the large, spacious room, echoing from a tall and graceful figure with long violet hair and a slim, but not disgustingly so, body, adorned in a simple white dress and eye glasses.

"Yes, Rarity," a much smaller child girl, of maybe eleven to thirteen answer, her own voice sounding more irritated than anything else. She looked to much like her older counterpart to be anything other than her younger sister, even with the marbled style hair.

The pale skinned fashion designer snatched the rope from her apparent sister and quickly knitted it onto a red outfit, complete with a hood and a plain of gold in the middle, bronze buttons. It still was far from finished, but Revan could tell from the look on his hostess-on Luna's face that this was the fledgeling outfit that was intended for the once Sith lord.

"Um... Rarity?" Sweetie called out to her sister, now lost in her art.

"Mhmm..." she bit her thumb as she began to meditate further upon her choice as the golden ropes dangled from the right shoulder, ignoring the pleas of her sister. "Simply divine!"

"Rarity," she asked once more.

"Not now, Sweetie," she waved her away, the violet haired young woman's back to the door. "Big sister is busy!"

"Lady Rarity?" Princess Luna called out this time, smiling like she knew what was going to happen next.

"I said wai-" Her eyes went wide as she cut herself off mid shout, now realizing who it was she was yelling at. "Princess Luna!" she turned around and bowed to the co-regent of Equestria. "I am soooo sorry! I hadn't the foggiest idea that you were here to..." Her voice trailed off as she saw the scarred man next to her, now wearing a small smirk on her face. "Princess? Might that be the man you spoke of in your letter?"

"He is," the night shepherd answered back.

She rose up and approached Revan, her hand now held to her chin. "He is..." she tried to search for the right words to describe him. "Not quite as bold as you led me to believe..."

"Bold?" Revan asked, finally breaking his silence.

"Yes," she continued to walk around him, Revan's own eyes tracking her movements. "The way she described you, I would have thought you were carved from a darkened marble, scarred but crafted as if you were Starswirl the Bearded in his prime..."

The brown haired man looked at his now very flustered friend, her hand now on the back of her head. "Really? Is that right, my princess?"

"I, um..." she began to studder, her face now approaching scarlet and her blue eyes refusing to meet the gaze of the fashion designer she thought was her friend. "It is... I believe more context would be more fair so that..." She cleared her throat. "So, Rarity. How fares your attempts to age your drake friend, Spike?"

Rarity rolled her eyes at her princess's feeble attempts to change the subject, although she chose to indulge them all the same. "It is actually going fairly well, Your majesty," she answered. "By Twilight's estimates, he should be roughly nineteen by dragon standards at this point, granted, there have been..." she paused as if she didn't want to say anything about it, but knew she couldn't back out now, not after she'd just embarrassed the princess like that. "Certain... setbacks."

"Oh?" Luna smiled, raising an intrigued eyebrow at her more plebeian friend. "Pray tell? What kind of set backs?"

Rarity opened her mouth as if to answer, only to be interrupted by a tall, violet reptile holding a small device in his claw. "RARITY!!!" He shouted. "I FIGURED OUT HOW TO SPELL 'BOOBS' ON THE CALCULATOR!!!"

Revan, even risking a broken rib, held his laughter back as the violet haired maiden went red. "The process has... had it's flaws..."

"I can see that," Luna agreed, now finding solace in her payback of her more plebeian friend.

"Well, then, ahem..." she cleared her throat, trying to change the subject. "I suppose you are here for the outfit for Princess Celestia's birthday celebration?"

"Yes, and I must say, Lady Rarity..." she moved past her blue eyed friend to take a gander at the suit. "It is quite splendid. Revan, come over here please," she waved her guest over the outfit. "Is it to your liking?"

The scarred man took a look at both their faces and smiled as he began to circle the suit for himself. From what he could tell, it was similar to old fashioned military dress uniforms from long ago, though he very sincerely doubted that this was to be used for more than show. He also noticed the onyx pants, which he had to admit complimented the red fabric, golden ropes and plains and bronze buttons very nicely, and the same could be said for the coat tails and the red hood hanging from the back.

"This suit..." He smiled as he saw the two woman looking at him, all four blue eyes staring intently into his own, being eaten away on the inside by the anticipation of the mysterious stranger's opinion. "I like it," he uttered as an explosion of joy erupted from behind both of the women's eyes. "When will it be ready, if you don't mind my asking?"

The violet haired young woman named Rarity pushed her glasses up, now wearing a more than slightly arrogant smile across her face. "It shall be ready within three hours! And, whilst my masterpiece is being completed, that shall give you two plenty of time to visit the princess's other friends across our humble little township."

"I really don't think that's necessary, Lady Rarity," Luna raised her hands to deny it. "I mean, we will be so busy planning my sisters celebration and I doubt Revan will enjoy such frivolit-"

"Actually, I wouldn't mind it at all," Revan cut her off with a smile, looking into the cyan eyes parallel to his own. "Seeing your friends actually seems like a nice way to spend the afternoon together."

And, once more like a wookie cub on life day, her eyes glowed with joy. "Well alright, then," she then turned to Rarity, who, judging by the look on her face, had just had a detonated heart. "Ms. Rarity, may I count on you to finish your magnum opus while I take Sir Revan to visit the other bearers of the elements?"

"Princess?" She did a curtsy. "You have my word. This shall be the greatest suit I have ever crafted for man or that I ever will craft for man. Of this, you have my solemn vow!"

"I understand," she nodded with a smile, then turning to her companion. "Sir Revan? Follow. I will take you to see Twilight and the others. I am certain that they will be as a group of friends to you as they were to me."

As they both left the Carousel Boutique, Revan smiled as he opened the door, . "Lead the way, My lady."
