Chapter IV

“It’s... You.” Night said. “Celestia.”

With one look Celestia know exactly who he was. “Night Sky...”

The two stared at each other, anger flaring in both their eyes, though no pony would know as they both had steeled, expressionless faces.

Twilight could just tell something was off about the situation the two just stared at each other like some kind a mental battle was going on.

Twilight started to walk toward Night. “Hey wha-.”

“Twilight! Get away from him!” Celestia yelled.

Twilight didn’t know what was going on, but the princess never yelled at her. “Wait, wait what the hay is happening.”

Celestia unfurled her wing to there full length and Night summoned his magic and cast a powerful shield spell which shrank till it was tight to his fur then spread his wings out too.

“I want you guards to watch over twilight and her friends, don’t let them out of your sight.” Celestia said.

“Yes ma’am.” Her four guard said in uinson.

“So this is what it comes to, yet another demon from the past.” Celestia said.

“Heh.” Night said having a nostalgic look on his face.

The two rose into the air, matching each others speed till they were 100 meters in the air.

The two circled for a bit before Night fired several small beams at her.

She easily dodged them and returned fire with a concentrated beam of fire.

Night charged the beam banking to the left and moved in to ram Celestia; she didn’t expect him to charge her, he made contact, hitting her hard. As soon as Night made contact he fired a bolt of lighting right into Celestia’s chest, winding her till she repulsed him with a large bubble shield, throwing Night a good ten meters before he could steady himself, Celestia returned the favor with a lightning bolt of her own striking Night hard but his shield took the brunt of the damage.

As the battle progressed the girls watched from the ground awed. No pony alive with the exception of Luna has ever seen Celestia fight and Night just took a direct hit and stood his ground.

“This is insane! What is happening!” Twilight demanded.

Everypony stayed silent with their eyes locked onto the battle overhead.

Both their horns glowed brighter as they exchanged more brutal attacks, then Night made a dive for the ground coasting just above it, Celestia followed close behind till a huge rock wall shot up just in front of her. Reacting quickly, Celestia throw up a shield smashing though it only to be hit from below by another wall of rock scoring an unshielded hit.

Celestia was only wearing her normal royal jewelery, which wasn’t made to channel magic; she couldn’t hold a consistent shield unless she cast the spell and and kept it up consciously which would hinder her fighting ability too much.

The rock wall hit her hard in the two front legs and upper chest sending her somersaulting back into the air. Celestia cringed as her body registered the pain but she ignored it and cast a quick healing spell which only recovered half the damage.

Looking back, Night saw the second wall strike true sending her flying. Banking up and off to the right Night circled around for a close up attack. Seeing this Celestia flew higher into the sky and now Night was chasing her; she let him get close then cast a white hot fire wall behind her.

Night couldn’t stop in time so he folded his wings and reinforced his shield bursting through the other side unharmed but his shield would fail if he didn’t give it time to recover, Night slowed to a stop and watched Celestia slow to a stop a scant 20 meters ahead of him.

Night knew with out his shield he could take about three direct hits before he’d be dead. The two combatants hovered there looking at each other, studying each other, thinking of what to do next then thinking of what would happen after one of them made their move.

“It’s like a mental chess battle.” Twilight muttered to herself.

Night inched closer to Celestia; now only 10 meters away.

“What’s his plan.” Celestia thought to herself watching him inch closer.

“Twilight told me you were a good well mannered pony.” Celestia said

“So?” Night replied

“Why didn’t you just kill her and all of her friends then!?” She yelled

Night didn’t answer her, he just charged at her using magic to increase his speed to a sonic level, acting quickly Celestia dodged the attack as Night turned on a dime catching her right in the back before he was sent flying back cringing in pain from a barrier of electricity.

Celestia too cringed from the hit on her back and wings, turning around she narrowly dodged a beam of magic then returned fire with one of her own, Night dropped altitude and fired several more beams at her of which one struck true and the others harmlessly shot into space.

“I see you haven’t lost any of your skill Night Sky.” Celestia said complementing him.

“Thank you Celestia.” He responded.

“You know I vividly remember our first time meeting.” Night recalled.

“Yes that was when you killed my first student.” Celestia said with a look of scorn on her face.

“That student of your was just as bad as I am, she single hoofedly wiped out my whole battalion... While they slept!” Night screamed at her.

“Yes I know. I was there, It was truly a horrifying sight.” Celestia said with a solemn look on her face.

“I died that day! You tuned the only mare I’ve ever loved into a weapon then you sicked her on me!” Night yelled

Celestia was shocked and remained silent.

“*tsh* Truly a testament of your will to preserve Harmony, huh?” Night said.

“I didn’t have a choice! It was that or the whole world would have died in darkness!” Celestia screamed back. “You think I didn’t love her too! Huh! She was like my very own filly!”

Twilight and the others couldn’t believe what they were hearing, not only was the princess of the sun screaming but her voice was steeped in sorrow. Twilight couldn’t help but cringe in sadness over the two broken hearts.

Night closed his eyes and took a deep breath, exhaling slowly then opened his eyes as a blade began to materialize beside him.

Celestia recognized it even before it was done forming, “Mahdokht.” The blade once belonged to Luna, pasted down to Night Sky from Nightmare Moon.
“Draw your blade.” Night said.

Celestia calmed herself and willed her blade Corona ,into existence.

‘Corona.’ Night recalled. ‘A Magic blade so powerful that when it’s swung you can feel the magic in the air ripple. Legend says Celestia was given it by the King of the Eternal Herd to fight Discord.’

Both of them landed on the ground a short 5 meters away from each other.

One of the guard lend over to Twilight and whispered. “Hey where’s that dragon of yours?”

“Huh. Oh, uh, what for? she asked.

“I want to send a letter to Princess Luna.” He responded

“Oh right, that would be a good idea. He’s in the library .” She told him.

He looked over to another guard. “Private Halberd, get to the library and have that dragon send an urgent message to Luna.”

“Yes sir.” Halberd said flying away and keeping low to the ground.

Celestia and Night stood there as a gentle breeze blew the sweet smell of apples and flowers around them.

“Celestia.” Night called

“Yes Night?” Celestia responded

“When I die...will you bury me next to her.”

Celestia looked down then said. “Yes.”

“Thank you.” Night said with a smile on his face.

Princess Luna,

Princess Celestia needs help. She is fighting somepony from the past. They have both drawn magic swords and are about to duel to the death. Please hurry. They are at Sweet Apple Acres.

Time slowed down as Celestia and Night charged at each other. Night swung Mahdokht up trying to catch Celestia on the up swing, She blocked with Corona, locking the blades in place.

“Night... you have been asleep for over a thousand years.” Celestia said.

Night jumped back with a look of shock on his face. “One Thousand years...”

“You don’t have to die Night, you can have a fresh start.” Celestia said.

Night look down at the ground then lifted his head. “I- I can’t, I’ve come to far to stop now.”

Just then Luna flashed into place next to Celestia. “Sister! Are you ok?”

“I am fine dear sister.” Celestia said.

Luna turned and looked at Night. Her jaw dropped. “Y-you’re alive!” Rushing forward and tackle-hugged Night.

“Ugh! Who the hay are you!” Night said pushing her off and jumping farther back.

“It’s me. I’m your mother.” Luna said with a hopeful look.

Some what shocked Night looked into her eyes. “No...” Night said as he plopped down on his flank.

“Luna, what do you mean you’re his mother?” Celestia asked just as confused at Night was.

“Night, I was Nightmare Moon, I raised you.” Luna said inching closer to Night

“You w-what!” Celestia stammered.

“During that war, Nightmare used us and conceived a colt; that colt was you Night.” Luna said inching closer still.

Celestia walked up beside Luna and said. “I thought his magic felt familiar, but how did you raise him as Nightmare, I thought you didn’t have any control over your body.”

“For the most part I didn’t but seeing my own colt I always fought for control.” Luna said

“I was fifteen... Y- I understand what you- Nightmare said to me after my first battle.”

Luna moved closer and hugged Night tightly with tears in her eyes. They spoke in unison. “I want you to know that no matter what I love you.” Night’s eye were wide open and his mouth hung open recounting those word.

Seeing Luna hug Night, Celestia’s guards and the girls made their way over to the three.

“Is it over?” Twilight asked the group.

“Night, we don’t have to fight, retake the oath, serve by Luna’s side.”

Night leaned back and looked into Luna’s tear-filled eyes.“I-I don’t know what to do.” He said

“You said it your self Celestia, I’m a demon from the past.” Night said.

“Wha- no! No! You can change, just like I did.” Luna said.

“Night.” Trixie said as she stepped closer. “You have friends now, ponies who truly care about you.”

Night looked into Luna’s eyes once again, the very same eyes that loved him so long ago.

With Night’s emotions running rampant he could think of nothing to say. He closed his eyes to collect himself. With his thoughts and emotions forced into check (for the time being) he teleported.
