Chapter 4: A Cure for Homesickness

A Cure for Homesickness

Applejack strolled happily down the street. She was taking in all the sights this time. She felt much more comfortable with being in the big city on this visit. As soon as they had separated back at the train station, she had headed straight for the little filly’s room to stow her hat away in her saddlebag, then do up her hair just like they had done it the last time.

As much as she had missed the farm when she stayed in Manehattan all those years ago, there was a little part of her that actually missed the city. Every now and then she would day dream that she was some fancy pants, big city socialite, just like all those fancy mares in the movies.

She wondered if she could pull it off. Applejack left the station and headed for midtown. Unlike the others, Applejack knew exactly where she was going today. That said, she decided she’d take a little tour up towards the theater district. Applejack sauntered up Broadway. She even walked the way they had taught her. She could have balanced a book on the top of her head.

At first, no ponies even paid attention to her. She had expected that. The big city was a pretty impersonal place. Then she started to get a few looks. Stallions would tip their hats and grin as they walked past. Bellhops and doorponies started to go out of their way to say hello to her. She only got more confident as she walked on. At one point she passed a construction site, and all the construction workers started to hoot and holler. She gave them a little encouragement. First by slightly waving her front hoof, then turning herself around a couple of times. It only drove them crazier. It was hard to give up all the attention but she eventually walked on.

Stallions. There were stallions everywhere. That part of her plan had worked out perfectly. There were millions of them in this city. She could see them on every street corner: Police officers and cab drivers, millionaires and hobos, politicians and gangsters. There were stallion bicycle mail carriers, businessponies, students, cooks, doctors, actors, carpenters, architects, street performers, and loiterers. You name it, there were stallions for it. You couldn’t throw a stone without hitting a stallion. And each and every single one of them had a big pair of dangly balls and a little fuzzy sheath underneath them. You could even go ahead and look at them without embarrassing yourself. Why, she even spotted a zebra or two.

“No siree,” Applejack thought to herself, “it won’t be a problem getting laid around here.” None of her friends would have a problem either. Even Fluttershy could get her itch scratched in a town like this. A doorpony let her through the front entrance of a high-rise apartment building. Why, every single one of them might get stud-serviced three or four times before it’d be time to head back to Ponyville. Applejack rode the elevator all the way up. This might just become an annual tradition for the six of them. Might even become a holiday. She walked down the elegant, carpeted hallway. No sharing stallions in this city, not anymore. There would be a stallion for each of them, and they’d never have the awkward problems of running into them during the off season. Applejack knocked on the door. Shoot, this city was so big, there were probably tens of thousands of eligible bachelor stallions for her and each one of her five friends.

“Hello?” asked the stallion who swung open the door.

“Well howdy, Uncle Orange!” Applejack said cheerfully. “I came ta pay you a visit!”
