Since the dawn of society, when our ancestors first discovered the adaptable power of fire and stone, machines have been built for the sake of everything from health, to survival, to simple egocentric laziness.

In the years before the Great War that reduced the world into a smoldering wasteland, technology advanced exponentially.  It went from a thing of simple convenience to something of social standing.  And it was that technology—that science—that was the saving grace for the population of the world.  For it was science that allowed there to be survivors.

Great underground bunkers were established to protect their residents from the horrendous effects of the impending doom.  On the day the bombs fell and razed entire cities to the ground, the world found out once and for all that it had been science that saved them from their fates.  And while the bunkers were each meant to preserve life and allow for a better future, there was one bunker whose sole purpose was to ensure that science never died.

For when the door to 85 closed, the citizens within sacrificed their natural minds for the greater advancement of the science that had saved them.  That is where I was born.  Until the day my sanctuary came crashing in on me, I lived as I was meant to within the walls of the shelter.
