Chapter 21 Strand

Applejack arrived at her farm house and found her family eating breakfast. It was toast with Granny Smith's famous zap apple jam. As eager as she was to get on with searching for her missing friends, she needed to sit down to eat; she couldn't remember the last time she had something.

"Howdy, sis!" Applebloom greeted her enthusiastically. "We was a little worried about ya, when ya didn't come home last night.”

"Ahm’ sorry Applebloom, ah was waiting for news on if Fluttershy is in Canterlot; unfortunately, it doesn’t seem likely." Applejack deadpanned. "Ahm’ so worried...”

Applebloom reached a hoof out to Applejack's in sympathetic affection. "Don't ya worry none sis, me and the girls are gonna go out an’ do some private investigatin’ in the mornin'."

Applejack shook her head sternly, "No Applebloom, we have two missing ponies now, I don't want ta lose ya too, ah forbid it."

"Awww but sis, wha if findin' ponies or private investigatin' turns out to be mah special talent?" Applebloom whined.

"It's too dangerous! Come on, tell her Granny Smith." Applejack looked to Granny Smith for support.

"Applebloom told me ‘bout her plans and ahm’ fine to let her go." Granny Smith replied.

"Wha--?! You can’t be serious!" The orange pony objected.

"But only if Big Macintosh stays with them." Granny Smith continued.

"Eeyup." agreed Big Macintosh.

Applejack looked at her large stocky brother, he sure looked like he would make a good bodyguard. But Applejack still had doubts that Applebloom could be of any use. She figured if nothing else her and her friends would make up one more search team, which was better than nothing.

"Ya keep them safe brother, or ya'll get bucked hard," She warned her brother.

"Eeyup." her brother replied simply.

Applejack finished her breakfast and was about to leave when Granny Smith halted her.

"Wait dagnamit, ya'll never ask if ah found anythin'!" She held out a strand of blood red hair on her hoof and showed it to Applejack.

"How long have ya had this for?" Applejack said, surprised.

"A while, but ya never came home." The old pony replied.

"This is gonna be a big help! Thanks Granny, but ya should have sent Big Mac to give it to me," Applejack said annoyed.

"Ya never told me where ya were?" Granny Smith defended.

"Ah, right sorry, I'm goin' to Twilight's." Applejack apologized. "Ah need to see if she can find this pony from tha hair.”

Applejack hugged each of her family members starting with Granny Smith.

"Stay safe y'all, an I'm not comin' back home until ah find Fluttershy and Rarity.”

"Eeyup." Big Macintosh agreed in his usual manner.

"Cutie Mark Crusader Investigators, yay!" Applebloom yelled.

"Y'all come back any time for lunch.” Granny Smith offered.

Applejack nodded and they all set off out of the house, Applejack went to the Library and Applebloom headed to the Cutie Mark Crusader Treehouse with Big Macintosh.

Pinkie Pie was knocking on another door in Ponyville. This time it was a pink earth pony with a green mane by the name of Daisy. Pinkie knew every pony in Ponyville like they were all her best friends. She knew that Daisy had her birthday in only forty-seven days. She would need to plan for it soon.

"Hi Daisy, how're you doing?" Pinkie greeted. Before Daisy could even answer she continued with a scripted speech. "We are looking for a bad pony that ponynapped Fluttershy and maybe Rarity, by the name of Redblood." She held up the poster to her. "Have you seen anything suspicious lately that may help us find them?"

Daisy shook her head.

"Okie dokey, please report to an element of harmony or Mayor Mare if you see anything.”

Daisy nodded and closed the door.

"Oh and happy birthday in forty-seven days, your party will be amazingly amazing!" She called out, but wasn't sure if Daisy heard.

"Okie dokie lokie, only twenty five houses to go!" Pinkie said to herself as she bounced to the next door. Pinkie tended to act like she had an audience watching her whenever she was alone and that she had to narrate her life out loud to whoever was watching.

Pinkie had been putting a mark on any house that was vacant. She tied a balloon on the door handle, this was so that they could come back and search each of these houses to see if any unregistered ponies were living there. Then their next plan was to organise warrants to search each pony's house that lived there. But since that would require a royal decree from a princess to be legal, it would have to be their last resort.

As she headed towards another house she saw Applejack running along.

"Applejack! she called out, “how's it going?"

"Oh, hi Pinkie," Applejack called back as she slowed down a bit. "Ah got some evidence tha could be useful, come with me to Twi's an we can see if it gives us a clue."

"Oh yay that's super fantabulous news!!" Pinkie squealed with delight.

When they got to the library Twilight was by no surprise to them searching through her books and looking for useful spells. When she saw her friends she stared at them hoping they were there with good news.

"Twilight, ah think ah found some of Redblood's hair!" Applejack announced loudly. "Ah mean, Granny Smith found it." She couldn't lie about who deserved the credit.

"Yes yes yes yes!" Twilight squealed, "Time to find that awful pony!" She shouted with a look of vengeance on her face; she was starting to look a little crazy and her mane was a dishevelled mess.

Twilight got the hair ready on the table and started to focus the magic in her horn. She concentrated hard on the object and was ready to be swept away to wherever the spell pulled her. She continued to focus for several minutes, each second that passed Twilight got worried that the spell wouldn't work. Applejack and Pinkie Pie watched in anticipation. So much so that Pinkie was actually being quiet and had a very serious look on her face rather then the smile she normally always wore.

After about eight minutes of non-stop concentration Twilight hit the table with her hoof making a loud crack and actually cracking it a bit. Applejack was surprised, even she would have trouble hitting something that hard.

"Dammit!" Twilight yelled. "It's not working, something is blocking it.”

"Blockin' it?" Applejack asked.

"Yes, this is different to when I was looking for Fluttershy. She was out of range or too far underground." Twilight explained. "This time I am sure, that my spell has been magically blocked. Wherever Redblood is, he is protected by magic."

"Can ya tell where the blocking magic is coming from?" Applejack asked.

Twilight was frustrated and snapped at Applejack's stupid question. "If I could tell where the spell to block finding someone was, that would defeat the whole point, wouldn't it?"

"Oh, right..." Applejack dipped her head down sheepishly, but then looked back up with an idea.

"Twi, if ya found where tha magic blocking ya is, ya reckon ya could detect it?” She asked.

Twilight was already starting to ignore Applejack, thinking her own brain would be more useful to listen to. But then a word Applejack said triggered an idea.

"Oh my... by Celestia you are a genius Applejack. That's it!” Twilight went and gave the orange farm pony a hard sudden hug, nearly knocking her cowpony hat off.

"Woah, nelly!” Applejack hugged back. "What is it, Twi?"

"Detect!" replied Twilight happily. "I need to get out of this library and go and find where the magic is that is blocking me. I don't know where it is, but I know it's in range of my locator spell. So I want every unicorn to sweep the town, once they find this spell they will detect it, because it is strong magic. It will allow us to know which house to search, rather than door knocking or getting a warrant to search everypony's house."

"Yippee!! Let's get started!" Pinkie started celebrating, but then went into a frown. "Aww, I'm not a unicorn I can't help."

Twilight, a bit happier because she was sure this plan would work and she giggled at the pink earth pony.

"Oh Pinkie, I'm sure no one in Equestria could spread the message to all the unicorns faster then you can."

"Yes ma’am, Pinkie's singing telegram is on it's way!" She shouted excitedly.

"Let's get started, girls!" Twilight ordered.

Applejack and Pinkie Pie set out to start rounding up the unicorns. Somehow Pinkie disappeared into thin air while they weren't looking. They figured she was probably already singing in somepony's fireplace. Applejack ran off to deliver the message as fast as she could and Twilight ran through the streets of Ponyville with her horn glowing.

Rainbow Dash had searched the entire city for Celestia, she asked every guard and just about everypony if they knew where she was, but nopony had any idea. She wondered why Celestia wouldn't even tell her sister where she was going. She continued to rationalize it in her head. What if Celestia too had been ponynapped?

Exhausted Rainbow dash headed back to the castle and saw Luna. She hung her head low.

"I couldn't find her anywhere, I can't help but wonder if she has been ponynapped too." Rainbow Dash said sadly.

"THIS IS... I mean this is dire news, I am very worried about my sister. I will help you in anyway I can.”

"Do you know if Spike got your message that we had received theirs?"

"Yes we got a letter back confirming that they received it. We are getting better.” Luna nodded.

"I need to go back to Ponyville and help my friends, I really hope Celestia isn't missing as well. You don't mind, do you? I can stay and look for Celestia more if you want, since she's the princess she is just as important."

"No, that's okay," Luna replied. "We shall be fine, we shall keep sending her letters. She could be where your friends are."

"Okay thanks princess, I wish you a good night."

Just as Rainbow Dash prepared herself to leave, she heard the familiar pop sound of a letter being received. Luna floated it up curiously and looked at the sender.

"This is from PRINCESS CELESTIA!” Luna boomed in excitement "and it is addressed to you."

"Oh, cool!” Rainbow Dash began to read.out loud but then stopped when the letter specifically asked her not to. As she continued to read, Luna could see the rainbow maned pony's jaw drop in surprise, what ever she was reading it was a huge shock and it made her more worried. The letter was quite long and it took a while for the pegasus to read it. When Rainbow Dash rolled it back up, her jaw was still wide open and her eyes had a very surprised look.

"WHAT IS IT, WHAT DID IT SAAAAY?! Luna shouted.
