Chapter 17 Letter

The pony in latex had the two letters that had been intended for Princess Celestia. It was a great feat of magic to both be able to know when a letter was being sent and to intercept it, but it was what the training had been for for the last several years. The pony covered in black was in a clearing. Behind was Canterlot and in front was ponyville. It was imperative to write a new letter to protect Redblood's agenda.

'My dearest, most faithful student, Twilight Sparkle,

I am surprised that Fluttershy never told you that she is here in Canterlot with me, helping Rarity with the 'Royal Canterlot Fashion Show'. She really has proven to be quite a designer and she may even be able to compete with Rarity someday. But please keep that between us. You know how she can get jealous of popular ponies. There is nothing to worry about, Fluttershy is fine and she is really enjoying herself here. I will be sure to scold her for not telling her friends where she was going and making them all worry'.

- Princess Celestia.

Satisfied, the letter was sent with a very difficult spell that took several minutes. It was no wonder that Celestia and dragons were the only ones able to cast the spell with such ease. Even Twilight couldn't cast the spell, as far as was known.

Now it was time for the next task as the latex pony headed towards Fluttershy's Cottage.

"Belch!" Spike burped as a green flame launched out of him and revealed a letter. Applejack heard the sound and excitedly ran up to him. "Spike, y'all got a letter, quick read it.” She frantically demanded. Spike coughed up some mucus, cleared his throat and began to read the letter. "'My dearest, most faithful student, Twilight Sparkle" He began. As he continued reading; Applejack commented. "She as bin in Canterlot this whole time?" Applejack began to feel a bit angry. "Fluttershy never said she was goin' with Rarity, tha' mare is in big trouble when she gets home".

Spike studied the letter. "I don't think I’ve ever known her not wanting ponies to know where she is. She's scared of everything and would rarely leave her cottage without somepony to accompany her" Spike reasoned.

"Well she did go wit' Rarity, maybe it was her that forgot ta tell y'all, maybe we should all be angry at her.” Applejack reasoned. "In any case, it's a relief to know she's fine.” Applejack laughs and wipes her sweating forehead in relief with her fore hoof. But Spike continued looking at the letter closely.

"I'm still not sure Applejack, I’ve read many letters from Celestia to Twilight and something about this one just seems odd" Spike argued, trying to convince her to not let her guard down.

"What y'all sayin' you thinkin' tha letter is a fake?" Applejack asked, now concerned again.

"I'm not sure, I can't quite put my claw on it, but I think we should at least not entirely give up on the search, at least not until we can get Twilight to look at the letter, maybe she can make sure it’s genuine". Spike explained.

"Ya, I'm thinkin' we should still make sure she's arigh' maybe get Rainbow Dash to ask tha princess directly. Applejack suggested, "an there still ain't no denyin' the strange feelin' I got from Redblood's lies and reactions when we mentioned Fluttershy.”

"Oh ha ha," Spike giggled. "He could just be in love with her; I know it happens to me.” Spike leaned in close to Applejack and whispered softly. "Don't tell anypony this, but.... I have a crush on Rarity.”

Applejack rolled her eyes and sarcastically replied. "Oh really I ain't ever noticed". Applejack rubbed her chin in thought "Still, it dun seem likely as far as I know he's too new ‘ere to hav' ever met Fluttershy, as far as I know".

The door to the house opened wide and Twilight raced in. She immediately started searching for something in her books. "Spike!" She yelled "Any news from the princess?"

"Twilight hold on a minute, I have a letter from her right here." Spike replied waving it at her. "Oh" She turned to him and frantically snatched it out of his claws with her magic ripping it slightly, Twilight had really started getting into one of her panicky obsessive moods. She proceeded to read it out loud again, when she finished she sat down on her haunches and made a sigh of relief. "Oh thank Celestia, that’s great news.” She floated the letter onto the table and relaxed; taking in few deep breaths. "Well I better go tell Mayor Mare to call off the search then.” She started to head to the front door but Applejack stepped in front of her. She hadn't even noticed she was there. "Oh Applejack, I guess Spike told you the great news.”

"Hold yer horses sugarcube, me an Spike, are suspectin' tha letter may be a fake.” Applejack announced.

"What?" Twilight blinked at her confused and turned to Spike. "Is this true Spike?"

Spike nodded. "There is something fishy about it, I just don't know what. Do you have a spell that can determine where the letter came from or who wrote it?"

Exhausted and tired, Twilight groaned in frustration. "I don't know Spike, sending letters magically is a rare spell, only dragons and Celestia can do it, that I know of. If there are spells about letters they are likely to be very obscure.” Twilight looked around at her library, it was quite a mess. "I think we should just get Pinkie to find it." She submitted, the cluster of disorganised books making her head hurt at the very idea of searching through it.

"We was also thinkin' we could get Rainbow Dash to jus' fly to Canterlot and ask the princess directly if she got the letters or sent this one" Applejack explained.

"Good idea" Twilight nodded. "Okay so, I want you two to find Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash and get them to do those jobs. I'll go tell Mayor Mare to call off the search for now. The sooner we set our minds at ease the sooner we can sleep".

The three left the library and head off in different directions.

"We should split up." Applejack called to Spike as she ran off, "find Pinkie Pie."

"Yes mam" Spike saluted.

The Latex pony went inside Fluttershy's Cottage and carefully sneaked around in case somepony was inside. Picked up a bag of animal feed with magic and carefully and silently escaped back outside with it. Latex pony then proceeded to go into the woods nearby, knowing exactly where to go to reach Fluttershy's favourite clearing for feeding her animals. The pony opened up the bag of feed and started trying to coax the animals out to eat by making sweet sounds. But instead they came out in a deep intimidating noise, because of the collar that masked the voice. The animals that were starting to peek from behind the trees bolted away. The voice not the soft and kind one of the yellow pegasus they were used to.

The pony sighed and figured it would be hard to earn the animals' trust. So instead just tipped the bag over and let the animal feed pour onto the ground. Then sneaked back out and thought about what would need to be done next to keep Redblood safe.

Rainbow Dash was not hard for Applejack to find, she was still scouting back and forth around and through Ponyville leaving a rainbow trail behind her. Applejack waved her forelegs and called out trying to get her attention. "Wait, Rainbow Dash" Applejack yelled out again. She just had to wait until Rainbow Dash decided to get close enough before she was noticed.

Rainbow Dash landed on the ground with a hard thud eager to hear what Applejack had found. "What is it Applejack?"

"We 'all got a letter from Celestia and it's sayin' Fluttershy is safe in Canterlot", Applejack explained.

"Yes!" Rainbow Dash pumped her hoof in victory and smiled. "That's Awesome".

"Ya it is, but there still be a problem". Applejack looked at Rainbow Dash seriously, seeing the confused concern reform on her face. "We hav’ reason to believe tha letter may be fake an we need somepony to go to Canterlot and ask tha princess directly if Fluttershy is there with her, jus' to be on that safe side and so we can stop worryin'.”

Rainbow Dash hung her head down in disappointment and sighed. "Awww my wings are so tired, what made you think the letter is fake?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Spike found it strange an since he reads all her letters, I trust his judgement". Applejack answered.

Rainbow Dash nodded and despite the pain in her wings she flew up and sped off towards Canterlot. "I'll be there in 10 hours flat she called back.”

Spike entered Sugarcube corner and saw Pinkie looking particularly down and sad in the counter. She had placed papers all over the walls that read.

The drawing of Redblood wasn't very good, like if Rarity had have drawn it. But could be easily identified thanks to him having such a unique coat and mane colour and the cutie mark was easily identifiable.

"Hi Spike." Pinkie put a smile back on her face when she saw him. She felt she always had to be the one to help keep her friends thinking positive. "I made a pile of these fliers" She chirped proud of her idea. "Can you help me put them all over Ponyville?"

"Sure" Spike replied. "But we have a job for you; we need you to find a book in Twilight's Library.”

"Oh that’s as easy as Pinkie Pie... pie!" She smiled confidently as she began to leave with Spike back towards the library. On the way Spike explained the letter he had received and put a flier up on each house door they passed.
