The unicorn peered out his window, watching the ponies mill about their days, oblivious to his peering eyes. He levitated out a pencil before looking down at the blank sheet of paper before him, waiting for the perfect moment to capture.
He watched as the sun slowly coasted down the sky on the last legs of its journey, casting long and dark shadows over the town square. Less and less ponies walked about, each growing tired from the long day, returning home alone or with friends.
The unicorn paid them no mind however, each day something exciting happened, even if he had to stay awake long past most everypony else.
Luna's moon crested his view of the square, giving off a faint glow that disrupted the soft lights of the stars above. He sipped at his tea, long since cold from when he made it that morning. The deserted square gave off an eerie feel as nothing stirred, but still he watched and waited.
He blinked, opening his eyes he saw a fiery red mare land down on top of the fountain in the center of the square, the sprays of water from below lightly coating her as she folded her wings in. The pegasus looked around, as if trying to remember something long forgotten.
The unicorn started drawing, never had he seen a mare of such intensity, he smiled as he knew this was what he was waiting for today. He quickly sketched her pose, confident yet confused, before adding the platform she stood atop of. He stared at his rough sketch before nodding in satisfaction, looking up from his work he noticed the mare had stopped looking from side to side.
It seemed to him she was staring straight at him, a cold sweat appearing on his brow as shivers went down his spine. He moved slowly, as if going any faster would result in him losing his model.
Levitating his case of coloring pencils up next to him, he brought out a steely blue before starting to shade the fountain, darkening it in contrast of her natural appearance. Replacing the pencil with a deep midnight blue he started on the sky above and around her, making sure to highlight the moon that now rested behind her.
Finally, he pulled out a lush red and a bright yellow. Before he could start on the last and most important part of the piece, he felt eyes upon his head, sending another wave of chills down his back as he took a gulp of the cool night air.
Slowly looking up he noticed the mare was gone. He nearly looked back down, only to see a fog on the window, a message written out on it.
'Until next time, it was fun'
He stared at the message, his breath caught in his throat. He shook himself before staring back down at his picture, intent on finishing it. He quickly colored the final piece of the picture before leaning back and choking again.
Attached to the window was a single rose, its top glistening in the water that dripped off it. He could faintly see a wisp of red in the sky. With a smile he opened the window, bringing in the flower and laying it next to the picture.
