An Assassin's Last Journey

Random idea #1

Time: One hour and twenty nine minutes

Lighting tore across the black clouds, illuminating the ground below along with the face of the stallion slowly plodding his way through the town. His tongue slid along the wooden hilt of his sword, feeling the grooves of past teeth marks as he counted the seconds before the thunderclap.

One... two... three... four...

The explosion of sound arrived just on time, nullifying the screams of the guard who had the unfortunate fate of being in between the assassin and his target. The blood of the guard slid down the cold steel of the sword as the assassin twisted it deeper into his chest. The guard’s blood stained the hilt of the sword, just like so many others had before him, leaving the assassin tasting iron as he trotted deeper into the town.

The guard’s lifeless corpse stared after him, his mouth open as if trying to warn the others of the incoming wave of death. The blood seeped from him, the rain washing it away as if Celestia herself was crying for the deaths of her little ponies that found themselves at the foot of the assassin.

The assassin’s boots splashed along the muddy roads of the town as he avoided the patrols, using the cover of night and the storm he was but a ghost as he pushed further to his target.

A new patrol arrived on the street the assassin was barreling down, only noticing his cloak disappearing down an alley way. Moving to investigate, the patrol came down on the cloak, one of them tackling the garment. The cloak came free of the clothes line that held it as the guard fell to the ground, entangled in it.

The others laughed at the display as the guard blamed the paranoia surrounding the assassin that supposedly was in town to kill their leader. He didn’t believe any of it, but orders were orders.

The guard felt something in the cloak, finding the pocket it was in he pulled out the small sphere inside. The others looked closer at it as he held it out on his hoof to them, none of them seeing the trigger on it’s side.

As they each took the sphere for a closer look, the trigger was hit during an exchange, the sphere exploding with a small pop, a green smoke surrounding them suddenly.

They all tried calling out, yelling, screaming, or crying. Nothing happened as they choked on the poisonous gas, falling to the ground clutching at their throats one by one.

The assassin smiled from the rooftop he stood upon as the last one fell, enjoying the cool feeling of the rain splattering against his back. He waited for the rain to dissipate the toxin before jumping down and putting his cloak back on, dragging each body into the alleyway before heading off again.

The rain had increased in intensity as he came to the last leg of his long journey, intent to kill the one that had killed his family so long ago.

He could see the entire compound that the coward hid inside of from his perch in the bell tower. He grabbed his custom crossbow from his side, rubbing the smooth willow wood before grabbing a long steel line from his pack. Anchoring in one tip of the steel line into the wall, he loaded the other into the crossbow before taking careful aim. Firing the other end of the steel wire from the crossbow, the assassin could hardly hear the whizzing from the steel as it flew through the air over the rain, even with his trained sense.

The line impacted right on target, just above the balcony of the room where his target would be. Tightening the length of line on his side, he reached up with a leg, a hook emerging from his boots.

He took a short breath, tugging the hook down to make sure the line would hold before leaping from the tower. He let himself smile again as the wind whipped up his mane, his eyes watering from the speed he was going. It felt like flying to him, but alas, this is where his journey would end.

He detached himself from the line, landing perfectly on the balcony, only a faint thud emanated from the fall, only to be drowned out by the rain.

Slowly opening the door to the room, he peered inside, seeing the body on the bed underneath the covers. The assassin crept forward so as to avoid even the smallest creak of the old floorboards that may alert the guards below, even if this was a one way trip, he would take out all of them that he could before he fell.

Raising his hoof up, he heard the small rub of metal against metal as his hidden blade unsheathed. Slowly lowering the blade to the neck of the pony, he savored the moment before cutting deep into the neck of the pony.

White fluff poured out of the cut he had made.

A perplex look overcame his face as pulled the covers off the bed, reveling the body to be a pile of pillows. He stabbed at the pillows again and again in rage, before noticing how much noise he was making.

Turning around he started to run, only for a mace wrapped in a white glow of magic to come crashing down on his head, stars instantly flaring as his vision darkened. He tasted iron again as he slipped away into the blackness, faintly hearing voices around him before the darkness took him away.

The Watcher

Random idea #2

Time: Forty three minutes

Bonus challenge: Done all on a Kindle keyboard.

The unicorn peered out his window, watching the ponies mill about their days, oblivious to his peering eyes. He levitated out a pencil before looking down at the blank sheet of paper before him, waiting for the perfect moment to capture.

He watched as the sun slowly coasted down the sky on the last legs of its journey, casting long and dark shadows over the town square. Less and less ponies walked about, each growing tired from the long day, returning home alone or with friends.

The unicorn paid them no mind however, each day something exciting happened, even if he had to stay awake long past most everypony else.

Luna's moon crested his view of the square, giving off a faint glow that disrupted the soft lights of the stars above. He sipped at his tea, long since cold from when he made it that morning. The deserted square gave off an eerie feel as nothing stirred, but still he watched and waited.

He blinked, opening his eyes he saw a fiery red mare land down on top of the fountain in the center of the square, the sprays of water from below lightly coating her as she folded her wings in. The pegasus looked around, as if trying to remember something long forgotten.

The unicorn started drawing, never had he seen a mare of such intensity, he smiled as he knew this was what he was waiting for today. He quickly sketched her pose, confident yet confused, before adding the platform she stood atop of. He stared at his rough sketch before nodding in satisfaction, looking up from his work he noticed the mare had stopped looking from side to side.

It seemed to him she was staring straight at him, a cold sweat appearing on his brow as shivers went down his spine. He moved slowly, as if going any faster would result in him losing his model.

Levitating his case of coloring pencils up next to him, he brought out a steely blue before starting to shade the fountain, darkening it in contrast of her natural appearance. Replacing the pencil with a deep midnight blue he started on the sky above and around her, making sure to highlight the moon that now rested behind her.

Finally, he pulled out a lush red and a bright yellow. Before he could start on the last and most important part of the piece, he felt eyes upon his head, sending another wave of chills down his back as he took a gulp of the cool night air.

Slowly looking up he noticed the mare was gone. He nearly looked back down, only to see a fog on the window, a message written out on it.

'Until next time, it was fun'

He stared at the message, his breath caught in his throat. He shook himself before staring back down at his picture, intent on finishing it. He quickly colored the final piece of the picture before leaning back and choking again.

Attached to the window was a single rose, its top glistening in the water that dripped off it. He could faintly see a wisp of red in the sky. With a smile he opened the window, bringing in the flower and laying it next to the picture.
