Chapter 22

"So..."

"Thunder. The name's Thunder, your highness."

"So Thunder, why are you helping us now?" A dark midnight blue alicorn asked. Her voice stern and regal.

"I'm supposed to be the monitor of Rainbow Dash. Now that's she's in Ianua Tartar. Once you are in there, somepony is chosen to be a witness. A witness of their torture. To see if they are really being punished." The purple pegasus explained. "And...I don't know why, but the master of the area that both Rainbow and the Wonderbolt are in, only tortures Rainbow. He just let's Soarin watch. To make it worse, she's gets twice as much. I hate it. She tried not to show her pain at first, but she finally snapped. It's horrible. I don't want to watch her in pain. I want her to be safe." The stallion began to cry slightly. As the cries of the cyan mare rang throughout his mind.

"Yes. We all want her safe. But there's nothing we can do." Rarity coughed. Learning now that her loyal friend was gone. Although they weren't particularly close, the both of them had their similarities. After Rainbow had revealed she was an assassin, she had opened up a bit. Knowing that she could trust her friends. Well, Rainbow had started to act more mature than she normally did. She was still her confident self, just more mature. Now the both of them observed the finest of detail and quality. Rainbow had even became more interested in fashion, but told Rarity to kept it quiet. And the pearl white unicorn had learnt many things from her friend. Like how to sharpen most of her senses. How to tune out to concentrate more. They had gradually got closer in the years. And Rainbow had done so much for her. If only she could repay her...somehow.

"She's most likely to die before tomorrow though." Twilight muttered. But everypony heard it. And was shocked at the statement.

"Why do you think that?"

"Well, she wasn't in the best shape when she went in. She hadn't eaten in a week. She hadn't slept in five days and she's been working non-stop. Rainbow was also mentally exhausted. Now she's getting tortured everyday but receiving twice the amount, her body will give out before tomorrow night." Twilight replied. Feeling saddened about her friend's near death. And this time, she won't be there to help.

"She did fall unconscious this morning. From loss of blood." Thunder added. The remaining Wonderbolts, the Princesses and the Elements of Harmony cried internally to themselves for their fellow Wonderbolt and assassin.

"We need to get them out. The Creed needs Rainbow back. To take control."

"I agree." A feminine but croaky voice echoed throughout the library. Everypony turned to the source of the voice. Twilight growled with anger while the Wonderbolts gasped.

"Captain? Where have you been all this time?" Silver Lining frantically asked.

"Yeah! Soarin is gone! He was taken to Ianua Tartar along with Rainbow Dash!" Fleefoot added. The captain of the Wonderbolts sighed a long and dreary breath.

"I've been busy."

"And what would that be, hey?" Twilight snapped.

"Huh?"

"Drowning more ponies? Trying to kill another assassin?"

"Wait! How do you-"

"Soarin. Soarin told me. He told me everything. What happened that night. How you confessed as well. You do realise that you are big trouble."

"I'm sorry okay!!" Spitfire cried. Her burnt gold eyes dripping with tears.

"You shouldn't be apologising to me, Captain Spitfire!! The pony you should be apologising to is a prison getting tortured!! You've also got to apologise to Soarin for lying!!" The princess of magic yelled at the upset pegasus. "Why Spitfire? You knew that you would be in big trouble. That and if she did die, The Creed will be no more and the Elements of Harmony won't work without her."

Spitfire looked down at the floorboards in shame.
"I just...I just wanted her out of the way. So I could have Soarin for myself. I wanted Soarin!! But he was constantly crushing on her!! Her?! She was just a low life flier!! Another crazed fan!! I thought I had my chance. But this whole thing has only brought him closer to her." The mare stared at everyone with tear filled eyes. "B-but....I just want him to be happy. And even if that means that he'll be with her, I'll do anything to help. Equestria needs to be saved."

The princesses smiled sweetly to the crying pegasus mare.
"Thank you Spitfire."

Suddenly, Thunder jumped up.
"I've got it!! I've bloody got it!!"

~~~~~~
The two weak pegasus ponies sat close to each other. Very close to each. One leaning herself against the other. She was feeling ill. Very ill. Sick to the bone. She felt cold and every part of her was sore. She leaned against her partner for comfort. The chains attached to her legs just brought her down. Weighing against her small and slender body. Her wings were outspread. Limp and bloody. The mare's breath was ragged. It was very hard to breathe down in this horrible place. It smelt stuffy and damp. She lay against a pale blue stallion. While the mare slept against him, he opened his wing and covered her with it. He didn't care about his feathers getting coated in silky red blood. As long as he was with the mare, he was happy.
Soarin stared at the sleeping pony. She kept drifting in and out of consciousness. She fell asleep straight after her last punishment. He wished that the disgraceful unicorn would harm him rather than Rainbow. Yes she was an assassin, but she's just as innocent as every other pony. She's just being loyal to her country and protect the creatures within. Rainbow murmured every now and again. Muttering under her breath.
"Please....no....why are you leaving me....stop....mother....father....they're hurting me....help me please..."
"Rainbow. Rainbow wake up." He gently shook the mare. Who fluttered her eyes open. Her pain filled eyes.
"Soarin? Is every okay?" She croaked.
"You were just talking in your sleep. Bad dream?" He hugged Rainbow, despite the chains.
"Nothing out of the ordinary." Rainbow Dash turned away. "Do you think we'll ever get out?"
"I don't know Rainbow."
"I don't want to die, Soarin. I maybe an assassin but I still don't want to die." Rainbow began to cry. Slowly, she revealed more of herself to Soarin. She was finally letting her guard down. Letting everything that pained her, go. She felt safe around Soarin. She felt warm around him.
"It's okay, Dash. It'll be fine. We'll get through this." He hushed as he stroked her prismatic mane.
"I feel so tired. So very tired." She whispered. Her eyelids heavy. Her body numb.
The two ponies heard hooves echo. Gradually, they got louder and louder. Getting closer and closer to their cell. Soarin panicked.
"Oh no! Flicker! Not again! It hasn't been long since last time!"
Then, the sound of wing flaps could be heard. Rainbow's ears twitched. Now, two shadowed ponies stood by the cell door. One hoovering and one standing.
"Rainbow? Rainbow Dash?" The voice called. Rainbow instantly recognised the voice.
"T-Thunder? What is it?"
"We are here to help you." The stallion replied.
"We?" Soarin whispered.
Another pony came into view. The hoovering pegasus. The torches along the wall lighting up her golden coat. The flames flickering matching her windswept mane.
"Spitfire?!" Soarin coughed.
"I'm so sorry for before. But please. I want to help you. To get you out." The captain apologised again.
"We're breaking out?" Rainbow squeaked. "How? It's impossible. I've tried but everything has failed."
"But you don't have the keys." Thunder teased.
"How-"
"Buster. He thinks I'm fixing your chains." The stallion grinned as he unlocked the door. Loud clinking and clanging echoed as the hefty door opened. Both Spitfire and Thunder trotted over. Spitfire unlocked Soarin's chains while Thunder did Rainbow's. As soon as Soarin was free, he leapt up and hugged his captain.
"Thank you, Spitfire! Thank you so much!!" He hugged her tight. The orange pegasus blushed and bashfully smiled.
"Hey. Soarin. Help me out here. I don't think she can stand by herself." Thunder whispered. Calling the other stallion over. Rainbow was half unconscious. The world was spinning around her. Soarin trotted over and helped the mare to her hooves. But instantly, her legs buckled beneath her. Thunder caught her before she hit the cold, hard ground.
"Rainbow? Do you think you will be able to walk?"
"That's a stupid question, you idiot! Of course she can't walk!" Soarin snapped at the other stallion.
"I-I can. I can walk." Rainbow croaked. She shakily stood up. Wobbling as her legs ached. Soarin let Rainbow lean against himself. For support. "I just haven't walked in a while."
"Okay. Are we good to go?" Spitfire asked. Still hovering beside Soarin.
"Of course. Let's get out of here." The purple pegasus trotted out the cell. Followed by Spitfire. Then Soarin and Rainbow walked slowly. The cyan mare nuzzled the stallion's neck. Soarin's heart fluttered with joy.
"Thank you." She whispered before they went down a dank corridor.
