Twilight's Lament
Chapter 1: Twilight's Lament
Twilight was in a fetal position in the corner of her library. Her mane and tail were in disarray. Random patches of hair were sticking up, making the crazed mare look like she had bedmane. Her eyes were dilated, clearly bloodshot. Her mouth was twisted into a sort of maniacal smile that would send a chill down other pony’s spines.
“Everything’s going to be fine... everything’s going to be fine...” she repeated, over and over. It had become a mantra to her over the last hour, in between fits of giggling.
Her entire library was in ruin. Books were scattered all over the ground, creating an uneven mound of multi-colored books. Bibliographies, fictions, magazines, spellbooks, all of them ruined and lazily tossed about. The shelves were nearly empty, save the rare book that managed to survive the onslaught. The previous hour scarred Twilight, threatening to haunt her for the rest of her life.

It was glorious.
All the hours of work had finally paid off. Twilight stepped back and looked at the shelves before her. They were immaculate. Orderly. All the books were in the right sections. It would be so easy to grab any book she wanted. The mare knew that if the shelves were made out of something other than wood, they'd probably be shining.
The world was absolutely perfect. She stood there, gazing upon row after row of the books. It seemed as if time itself stopped--
A knocking came at the door. Snapping out of her trance, Twilight opened the door to find three beaming fillies.
"Oh no," the unicorn whispered to herself.
Smiles of rapturous joy were plastered on their faces. The fillies were carefree, reckless, brutal. They were giggling like hyenas, taking pleasure in tormenting Twilight. Before she even realized what was happening, her entire library was ruined. Her hours of organization were all for naught.
-------------
Deciding the best course of action would be to pretend like it never happened, Twilight staggered over to a corner and wrapped herself into a ball, rocking back and forth while mumbling her mantra. Nothing would ever be able to make it right again! It had taken hours alone to plan out the process of sorting her entire library, and another few hours just to actually do it.
Maybe a friend would come over and find the broken mare and be able to comfort her. Twilight knew this was a statistical improbability; she knew enough that her friends wouldn’t be coming over until the very next day! There was always a margin for error, though. Twilight prayed to Celestia that the months spent on collecting data on her friends yielded invalid results.
By a stroke of luck, her prayer was answered. The door to the library swung open, revealing a white-coated unicorn with a luscious purple mane.
Rarity screamed at the top of her lungs as she saw the scene of destruction in front of her. She galloped over to Twilight, doing her best to avoid stepping on any books.
“Twilight, darling! Speak to me! What happened?!”
Twilight giggled, and rubbed her front hooves together.
“Cutie Mark Crusaders Librarians!”
