Dare to Dream
Chapter 1: Have I Ever Told You...
Disclaimer: Written before Far Cry 3 announcement
Rainbow ran from an ever growing darkness consuming what was left of the world. She hugged a branch, the darkness sucking everything in. An ever-consuming being... it grew... Rainbow Dash looked at the dark hole. Pinkie's head slowly came from the center. "Raaaiiinbooooww..... Heeeellooooooo? Hey. Hey! WAKE UP!" Dash awoke with a start. "Whoa! Pinkie, what in the hay are you doin' up here? How are you even... You're Pinkie Pie. There is no real answer is there?" She turned to Pinkie for answer, but didn't get one. "P-Pinkie? Are you okay?" Pinkie leaned over so she was right next to Rainbow Dash. This felt so much like a dream. What was she going to do? Rainbow slipped under the covers, showing only her eyes. "Pinks, you're freakin' me out." Pinkie finally responded, "It's fine. Just checking in on you. Nothin' special." Rainbow slithered back up to her pillow. "Okaaay?" Within a moment or so, Rainbow was asleep.
When she woke up, she was tied to a post, over an ocean. "Whoa! What in the... Pinkie!?" Pinkie stood to her side. "Yes? Is there something wrong?" Dash darted a glare. "No, I throughly enjoy being held over an ocean, with a possibility of falling to my doom..." Pinkie waltzed over, and in a singsong voice said: "The ocean flows, and waves will crash. Say bye-bye, Rainbow Dash..." Pinkie kicked the post over and it plummeted to the sea. Dash realized, Pinkie hadn't tied her wings up. Good. Dash went to work as she fell, continuing under the surface of the water, rubbing away at the bindings. They broke after being soaked and worn from the salt water, and Rainbow swam frantically for the surface. She gasped and looked up, what had Pinkie done?
Rainbow's wings ached from rubbing the ropes, and she had severe rope burn so it was painful to move them. She swam for the shore, and sat for a moment, pondering chances of escape. Rock after rock, Rainbow climbed to the top of the mountain, and made a run to Ponyville. Unsure if she was going in the right direction, but too stubborn to bother turning, she ran on. Someone grabbed her and she blacked out.
When she awoke, she was dangling above 2 pendulums by a rope, a mouse eating at the top of it. At least her wings didn't hurt. Pinkie stood on a balcony. "Say Dash... Have I ever told you the definition... of insanity? Insanity is... doing something... over and over and over and over and over..... but expecting something to change. I could swear... I killed you once... yet here you hang... tried to escape again... The first time someone told me that, I thought she was messing with my head... Then again, I'd done that "messing with" by myself already... So I killed her. She didn't die. So... I killed her again. I threw her off a cliff on a board. But here she is. Here you are. Expecting things to change." Pinkie sighed and chuckled, staring at Dash. Dash shot her a familiar look, "Pinkie, you aren't making any sense! I only escaped once! And I never said anything about insanity! This is insane!"
Pinkie looked serious. "Have I ever told you the definition... of insanity?" The rope snapped and Dash fell. The rope that constricted her loosened after the snap, letting her wings free. She screamed in silence as the swinging blades were grinning to slice her up. However, the mouse fell too, landing on the red "Cancel" button. She realized her wings were finally free and floated down. Pinkie slammed a hoof on the balcony rimming and exclaimed "SHOOT!" Rainbow took to the sky and escaped Pinkie's wrath... for now. She wouldn't be safe. She might never be. Rainbow Dash woke up in a cold sweat, panting. This finally felt real. She tapped herself on the head to make sure this was reality. She sighed and rubbed her eyes. A voice came from the corner of the room. "Say Dash... Have I ever told you the definition... of insanity?"
