Questions That Need Answers
A wet trickle fell down Twilight Sparkle’s face as she slowly awoke from her rather unusual dream. She wiped her face dry with her right-front foreleg and then proceeded to rub the sleep from her eyes. She had been crying in her sleep. She put a hoof down on her pillow as she sat up in bed. It felt wet. She must have been drying for a while. This is silly. What am I crying for? She thought.
She looked around her bedroom which was still dark. Spike was sound asleep in his basket at the foot of her bed. He had pulled his blanket up over his face except for his mouth which was poking out. Still sitting up in bed, Twilight looked out the window and then at her clock. It was only 3 am. She didn’t feel like sleeping, however. The dream was still fresh in her mind and she was confused as to why it had affected her in such a way.
She pushed the blankets off of her and snuck downstairs into the library. She silently closed the door behind her and lit a candle with her magic. She began to brows her vast collection of books, carefully looking over each one. She slowly became frustrated as the tome she was searching for continued to eluder her. For once in her life she regretted having so many books.
After what seemed like hours she found it on the tallest shelf on the far end of the library. With her magic she pulled it out of its place and down to her level. The tome was terribly dusty. With a puff of breath Twilight cleared the dust off which produced a thick cloud. She coughed a little and tried to wave the dust away. The tome she held was rather large with deep blue leather covers. In shining, gold letters the title read Visions and Dreams. She opened the book which produced a slight cracking noise. She skimmed through a few pages before flipping them over. After flipping a few more pages she stopped and began to read more thoroughly.
Dreams are a state of mind that allows one’s imagination to flow freely. No one knows for sure what these magical things are or how they work; but while dreaming one can have and do anything or simply visit old memories. Some say that dreams can reveal the past or even predict the future. Others say that they are like portals to worlds far beyond our own.
Twilight cringed as sunlight fell upon her face. She hadn’t noticed the time as she was enveloped in her reading. She rubbed her eyes as they tried to adjust to the light. She placed the book back on the top shelf where she found it. What she had hoped would help her figure out what her dream meant, but it proved to make the matter even more confusing. She sat on her haunches and rubbed her temples. Her head ached as she tried to figure out what was going on. He ear sprang up as she heard a sound coming from upstairs. A few moments later Spike opened the door to her bedroom and yawned. His blanket dragged behind him as he descended the stairs and walked over to Twilight.
“Good morning sleepyhead. What are you doing up so early?” Twilight asked trying to hide her own fatigue.
“Mornin’.” Yawned Spike. “You’re up pretty early too. Were you up all night studying again?”
“Oh no. I just got up early because of a dream I had last night.” Replied Twilight as she got up.
“Nightmare?” Asked Spike.
“No, not really; it did leave me a little confused though.”
“What was it about?”
“I don’t know. I dreamt I was in a strange room surrounded by these money-like creatures. I was lying in this bed with some sort of machine hooked up to me. I think I was also one of those weird monkeys, now that I think of it. Anyway, I remember they were saying something about a hospital, a school, and something else. I can’t remember what. After a while most of the creatures left except for one. She was holding my hoof, but it wasn’t a hoof. It was some sort of strange fleshy thing with little appendages sticking out of it. She said something and the room went dark. Then, the next thing I know I’m awake.”
“Wow, that is one weird dream.” Spike exclaimed.
“I know. I can’t figure out what it means. I tried researching dreams but that only left me with more questions.”
“Meh, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You probably ate something weird. Happens to me all the time.”
“Why doesn’t that surprise me?” Giggled Twilight.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Spike wasn’t sure if he should be offended or not.
“Oh nothing.” Replied Twilight. She walked over to her desk and picked up a paper, quill, and some ink and began to write. She hoped that maybe writing down what she remembered of the dream would help something click. A few moments later Twilight put down the quill and turned back to Spike who had already begun his chores.
“Hey Spike. Why don’t we go get some breakfast before we start.” Twilight beckoned Spike to follow after her as she walked toward the front door.
“YES! I heard that Sugar Cube Corner is serving breakfast now. Let’s go check it out!” Spike said excitedly. He ran up to Twilight and jumped onto her back.
“Where did you hear that?” Inquired Twilight.
“I heard Pinkie Pie talking about it a few days ago. I wanted to go see for myself, but I never got around to it.” Spike explained.
“Well, I could go for some pancakes right now. Let’s go see if you’re right.” Twilight said as she opened the door and stepped outside.
“Awe yeah! PANCAKES!” Cheered Spike.
