Sunset Shimmer: New Beginnings
Chapter 5: Short Spin-Off: Sunset Sitter
Previous Chapter Next Chapter2/25/2012 NOTE: Apparently this is a section of a chapter that was planned to be published but I never felt that it would fit in with the themes of Sunset Shimmer: New Beginnings, which revolves around Sunset Shimmer righting wrongs and her relationship with Flash Sentry and her future. However, I feel though you guys deserve something from me so here it is.
This was meant to have taken place eight years after Equestria Girls, during the summer. However it hasn't been looked over thoroughly so you'll run into errors here and there.
Thank you guys for being so patient and understanding.

Eight months after Equestria girls…
With the smoke alarm beeping nonstop, the scent of burnt food seeping through her door and the constant argue of ‘the freshman three’ in the kitchen, any plans for sleeping in through the summer morning was denied.
Clattering off her bed in order, Shimmer grumbled to herself about taking three graduated freshmen into her apparent for two nights. Rarity had wanted Sweetie Belle to be with a ‘mature figure’ while she was filling out a long list of orders twenty-four/seven at the boutique.
Applebloom thought that Sweetie belle was having a summer sleepover at Sunset’s so she telephoned Scootaloo and both graduated freshmen met Sunset at her front door.
Not wanting to say no, Shimmer accepted offering the other two girls to bunk at her place, thinking it would be wonderful experience.
“Darn you, Sunset…” She grumbled to herself, throwing the bedroom door open.
The graduated freshman were all bright-eyed and vibrant compared to sleepy Sunset still in her Pjs. Behind them was a stove boiling out bubbles of liquefied oatmeal. Salt and sugar were spilled all over the floor. Any cooking machine that could generate heat was coughing out puffs of smoke. In the sink, a bowl of salad was placed under a waterfall of cold water on full blast. lined long the counter were towers of dirty pots and pans.
“In the name of Celestia, what are you doing?!” Shimmer shouted, promoting all three turn away from the disaster and glanced at the angered teenager in front of them.
"Aw shucks, I knew she would be up before breakfast was ready." Applebloom pouted.
"Or cleaned up." Scootaloo grumbled, flour covering half her face.
Before Sunset could snap again she practiced the breathing technique Twilight showed her.
"Okay...just....why are you making a mess in my kitchen?"
"We were trying to see if we have found our talent in cooking and were so close!" Applebloom stated.
"It was going well...until I burned a quiche." Sweetie belle admitted her curly hair smelled like table salt.
"And when I tried to make pancakes they got stuck on the ceiling." Scootaloo added. Sunset gazed up at the dozens of undone pancakes sticking on her ceiling.
"Is there....anything else I should know about?" Sunset asked, almost saying 'is there anything else you guys bucked up?'
"We'll this isn't messed up!" Applebloom presented a cereal bowl filled dark brown flakes floating in milk.
"Kid, anyone can pour a bowl of chocolate cereal. Even a pony can do it." Sunset scoffed.
"I know...." Applebloom sighed.
"Uh...that's not chocolate. That was supposed to be a golden wheat flakes cereal bar....I just put it in all in bowl when I.....burned it" Sweetie belle admitted shyly.
A pancake detached of the ceiling and landed on Sunset, sticking to her hair.
"Okay girls, while I appreciate the favor...." Sunset began. Her eyes shifted to the empty pantry and fridge. Her hands formed into a fists, causing the freshmen to take a step back.
"I think it would be best to go out and eat." Sunset finished, pulling the pancake gently from her her hair.

After filling up two garbage bags of wasted food, and throwing on her signature leather jacket and boots, Sunset dragged the kids to Ditzy’s Diner, the only restaurant within a block of Sunset’s apartment that was still serving out breakfast.
Once Sunset’s anger had cleared up she asked “So….excited for sophomore year?”
Sweetie Belle shrugged “I don’t know….I took all sorts of electives and participated in all the clubs this year. But I wasn't good at anything. What's going to be different about next year?"
“Yeah...no matter what we do we always mess up and we have no idea how we're going to spend the rest of our lives.” Scootaloo added, some of her hashbrown patty in still in her mouth. “And you saw that cooking wasn't one of them.”
“Is there anything you haven't done?” Sunset asked
“Well there is sky gliding, rock climbing, Prom Princess, Leaf collecting...” Applebloom listed off, cutting her waffle into pieces.
“We were hoping you could give us some ideas on finding our talent.” Sweetie Belle said, mixing her Salad.
“Like?”
“Like…maybe helping you date Flash!” Scootaloo said
“I’ll pass.” Sunset injected.
“But we can help set up a romantic gazebo, just like we did for mah brother!” Applebloom added
“Except we found out that we were setting him up with the librarian….so…it was…awkward” Sweetie Belle began.
“Yeeeah….Thanks, but I don’t need help with Flash; we are having good time together already.” Sunset replied. These girls had a reputation for causing all sorts of trouble. “How about entrepreneuring?”
“No way!” Applebloom grumbled “I tried doing that a hundred times! First With apples. And then with lemons! And then with pears!”
“What about...sports?” Shimmer suggested.
“Been there, done that.” Sweetie Belle sighed. “Even Fluttershy is better than me!”
“...uh...Math?” Shimmer shrugged.
“Lame.” Scootaloo commented, her food still in her mouth.
Applebloom eyed Sunset’s shirt “Wait...what's your special talent?”
Sunset scratched the back of her head. She had told Applebloom that a ponies’ special talent was a mark on her flank. In fact, Sunset had told so many people this, yet none ever asked her what her special talent was until now.
Probably because according to an exclusive long-held tradition of Canterlot and nearby towns, somebody would have to wear an image representing his or her special talent somewhere on his or her clothing. This mark could be applied to their garments as soon as they discovered their talent and presented it to their family to test that talent. Sometimes the mark even shown a little bit of personality of the person as well. For example, Fluttershy has butterflies on as her mark because her talent is taking care of animals and because she could be considered as quiet as one. Cheerilee had smiling flowers because she her talent was causing wisdom to bloom out from students and because deep down she actually had a really cheerful personality.
“Well, many think it has to do with the sun. But actually it has to do with emitting energy, power, and pride like the sun...or a really magical unicorn. And it also displays many intense emotions that I go through sometimes.” Sunset explained
“Maybe…we can be magicians - Like that Trixie girl! And because Sunset knows magic she can help us!” Sweetie Belle suggested. The others agreed.
But Sunset lowered her gaze and looked at her human hands “Not anymore girls….I am only a unicorn in Equestria.”
“Well, why don’t we help you get back to Equestria?” Sweetie Belle wondered
“And how would you get me back? The portal can't be opened manually,” Sunset said, rolling her eyes. “Anyway back to the topic on cutie marks…”
“Cutie mark?” Applebloom wondered.
“Whatever….” Sunset grumbled.
While the two worlds shared the same concept of a cutie mark they did not share the same name.
