Chapter 1: What Happens In September

What Happens In September

*Disclaimer: This story is based off of a song that Living Tombstone made. I do not own any of the lyrics in this story. This is my second attempt at a dark story, so I warn you, if you do not like blood, gore, crazed pony that wants to destroy the lives of the other ponies, etc. If you find any of this unappealing I recommend that you take caution before reading. Enjoy!*

“Darkness dwells in all ponies. It lies in wait until the perfect moment to take hold of you, twisting kindness into hate, love into war, and happiness into sadness. This is the way of life, as it has always been.”
-DJ BRON3-

What Happened In September

“You are just a nopony that will never make it anywhere in life”

“Get away from me before you regret it”

Midnight was jostled awake by the small fragment of memory that had entered his mind. He sat up and looked around, he was in his room. “Was that just a dream?” he asked himself quietly. He looked around once more and then got up off of his bed. He stretched his legs. “Oh well, it’s over and done with now anyways” he said as he began walking down the stairs of his two story home. He walked around his house absentmindedly, no doubt thinking of the horrid thought that plagued his mind.

Midnight decided that it would be best if he went outside. Dwelling inside your home all alone was not good for you. The taunting he heard in the dream was still playing back in his head. “I just have to get some fresh air, that will calm me down.” He walked outside and took a deep breath.

It was nearing the end of September in Ponyville. All of the birds were still chirping at the nice weather, but their songs would end soon when the first bout of winter came. The leaves were just beginning to turn a darker shade than their summer ones. The scenery was all around beautiful.

Midnight did not live directly in Ponyville. He did not like being so close to all of the other ponies all of the time. It was not because he didn’t like them either, but more of the fact that he needed his personal space. He did not like being alone, but his fear of the other ponies not accepting him made it hard for him to become more than a stranger to anypony else. He was alone.

Midnight walked off of his porch and began walking around his house. He loved watching the birds fly through the air. I want these dreams to end. This is the second time since the incident. These thoughts and more spun around his head like a tornado as he walked around the expanse of his property. This was not healthy; his mind was becoming strained with thought on what the fragment was about.

“I need to get my mind off of this stupid nightmare. Maybe I’ll go see if anything is going on in Ponyville.”

-Three Days Earlier-

Midnight was tossed to the ground. He tried to get up and get away but a hoof was brought down on his chest to keep him in place. “Let me go. I want to go home” Midnight said to the pony that was holding him down. He never knew why the other ponies never liked him; he had never done anything to upset anypony.

“Why? So you can go home and sit in your house all alone. You are always so discreet when you come here, what are you hiding?” the pony said as he pushed his hoof down on Midnight’s chest a little harder. “Tell us why you are always alone!” the pony said as he stomped on Midnight’s chest once to show that he means business.

“Get away from me! I don’t have to tell you anything. Just leave me alone!” Midnight said as he struggled to get loose of the other pony’s hoof. Why are they being mean to me? I never did anything to make them feel like this towards me. Midnight eventually stopped struggling and just lay there looking up at his bully with anger in his eyes.

“Wrong answer buddy” the pony said to him before he started to kick at him with his hooves. All midnight could do was just lay there and take the abuse. He didn’t know how to fight, he never wanted to fight. The kicks continued to pelt him in his sides and chest, sending sharp pangs of agony throughout his body.

“Leave me alone. I never did anything to you to make you want to do this to me. Why do you hate me?” Midnight said as he coughed up a mouthful of blood. He could taste the metal in his mouth. Every time he breathed in it felt like fire was burning in his lungs. His sides hurt every time he released a breath of air. He wanted it to end.

The pony stopped kicking Midnight and bent his head down real close to him. “You are pathetic, you can’t even defend yourself. You are worthless.” The pony looked at him with mock pity.

Midnight got up to his feet and coughed again into his hoof. Crimson liquid spattered his hoof and dribbled to the ground below. “Get away from me. You are the reason I stay away from this town. None of you want my presence; you all just mock it and twist it into something you can play with.” Midnight looked at the pony with a mixture of anger and respite. Tears were starting to form in the corners of his eyes as he thought about what he just said.

“You will never amount to anything. You will always be alone, always be a nopony who isn’t wanted by anyone” The pony said to Midnight in a tone that seared straight through his heart.

“I said get away from me before you regret everything that you ever done to me.” Midnight said as he looked at the pony. He was ready for the pony to come after him again, but the pony just looked at him and smiled. One day you will all push me too far; and when that time comes you will all regret acting like this to me.

-Present-

Midnight was walking on his way towards Ponyville. He had about a fifteen minute walk ahead of him before he made it to the outskirts of the town. His mind had finally calmed down from the nightmare that he had that night, but the thought was still hiding in the back of his mind…waiting. He was walking down the dirt road looking from side to side at the scenery as he passed by.

Midnight walked up to the edge of the town. He looked at the sign that said ‘Welcome to Ponyville’. “Do I really want to go into town? Maybe I should just go home” Midnight asked himself as he stood there. The thought of the pony saying to him that he was a nopony forced its way back into the front of his mind once again.

He looked over his body, the bruises from his torture still clearly visible. “No, I will just let them win if I give up trying to fit in.” He looked at the sign and sighed. He began walking into the town.

The town’s streets were empty. There was nopony on them anywhere. He felt a pang of sadness wash over him. Am I really that bad? Do they all dislike me that much? He walked the empty streets of the usually busy town. His mind trying to figure out why there was not a pony outside.

The town looked a mess. There were shattered boxes and debris scattered all over the streets. It had looked as if a tornado had blown straight through the streets of Ponyville itself. Midnight looked to the ground and also noticed puddles of dark maroon colored liquid. It was dry. He forced himself not to think of the possibility of it being the life essence of something…or somepony.

Something wasn’t right. This town never has empty streets, let alone it be in such a mess; it was always full of activity. “Where is everypony?” Midnight said to himself as he walked. He would call out various things like ‘Hello?’ or “Anypony here?’, but it was to no avail. The only sound that met his ears was the sound of the wind.

His mind was trying figure out what had happened to everypony that lived here. He was walking around the deserted, dirty streets of Ponyville without a clue of where he was going. He needed to figure out what happened to the ponies around this town.

Midnight suddenly stopped dead in his tracks. He grasped his head with his hooves and fell to the ground. Tiny pieces of the previous day were starting to flood into his mind. He let out a scream and closed his eyes tight. “Make it stop! Make it stop!” Midnight said as he laid there on the ground holding his head and crying.

He was starting to remember.

-The Previous Day-

Midnight woke up in his room. He sighed and then stretched his legs on the bed. A sharp pain shot up through his body from stretching. He then remembered what had happened to him only a day ago. The day he got beaten up for doing nothing but showing his face in the town.

He got up out of bed slowly and walked over to his standing mirror in the corner of his room. He looked at himself in it and felt disgusted. Scratches and bruises covered his body. He even still had a little dried blood caked to the side of his mouth from when he coughed after he was kicked in the chest. “I hate them; they had no reason for doing what they did to me. I HATE THEM!” Midnight said as he thrust a hoof out shattering the mirror.

He immediately calmed down. He hated being angry, it made him feel like he was no better than a bully himself when he was. He sighed again and walked out of his room and down the stairs, wincing a little as he took each step.

He ate some breakfast which was just a bowl of oats. He wasn’t hungry, his stomach twisted into knots as he remembered the pony and what he said to him. You are alone. Worthless. Pathetic. His mind played the words over in his head a hundred times, but the words still pierced him like needles. “I am alone” Midnight said as he stood in the center of the room.

He walked outside. He didn’t know why, but he wanted to go back to Ponyville. He wanted to confront the stupid pony that treated him this way. He wanted an apology, and he was going to do anything to get one. I will beat him like he beated me to get an ‘I’m sorry’ out of him.

He began walking towards the town of Ponyville. He was angry, he never really was angry before, except for the time that his mother died. She was dying from an illness and he couldn’t get the medicine in time because he didn’t have the money. He thought about that day as he walked. I could of saved her. I could have had at least my mother to keep me company, but that god damn illness took her away from me before I could get the medicine.

He stopped in front of the town entrance. He had a mixture of determination and anger on his face. He waked into the town and began walking down the streets. He didn’t even pay attention to the snickers he got from the ponies around him. Where is he? I know he is around here somewhere. After a few moments of searching he was pushed to the ground from behind. His face smacked into the hard ground and he could feel blood instantly start trickling out of his nose.

“Why do you insist on coming back here when you know you are not wanted? It is just plain idiotic of you.” A voice sounded from behind him. There he is. The pony lifted Midnight up with his hoof and looked at him. “you didn’t even learn a thing from our last little visit, did you? You should really learn to listen to someone besides yourself, it will help you a lot.”

The pony started to pound Midnight’s face with his hoof, repeatedly sending blow after blow. Midnight just took it, his anger was reaching its peak inside of him. I will kill you if you force me to. I will kill you all if you keep treating me like this. The pony stopped after a few more moments of swinging. He retracted his hoof and the blood from Midnight was stained onto the coat.

“Let me go” Midnight said quietly to the pony still holding him up. His mind was going off into a state of rage, Kill him, and kill everypony that treated you like you were worthless. He was going to listen to what his thoughts were telling him if things didn’t change soon. He was beginning to break.

“What was that? I couldn’t hear you. Did you say let me go?” the pony said to him in a menacing tone. The pony lunged out with another hoof and hit him straight in the stomach. “Now what did you say?”

Midnight coughed and spat up a mouthful of blood, the metallic taste making him want to gag. “I said, LET ME GO!” Midnight said as he finally lost it. He grabbed a hold of the pony’s foreleg that was holding Midnight up and started to twist it upwards. You never gave me a chance. You made assumptions, you all did, and now you are all going to pay for it. He continued to twist the pony’s leg upright until it snapped from the pressure. “You never should have treated me the way you did, the way all of you did.” Midnight said seething to the pony that he was now holding.

“Please stop. I will stop being mean to you, just let me go.” The pony said as tears started to stream down his face. Midnight looked at him and laughed angrily. Ponies had heard all of the commotion and were beginning to gather around them, they were shocked to see that Midnight was the one with the upper hand this time.

“Funny, I was trying to tell you the same thing when YOU were beating on me yesterday. I don’t think you have learned your lesson yet.” Midnight turned the pony around and locked him into a headlock. “This is what happens when you treat somepony like they are dirt and play with their emotions like they are some sort of toy for your sick amusement.”

This is when Midnight finally lost all control. His mind finally broke, he was gone. Midnight took the pony’s head and twisted it, snapping the neck of the defenseless pony. He smiled at all of the ponies who had gathered around them. Midnight tossed the pony’s limp body onto the ground. He continued to smile at the dead pony. “He’s gone” he whispered. He looked up at the ponies who were staring at him in pure terror. “Finally….finally it’s done. Ha ha ha ha, IT’S FINALLY DONE!”

“This pony has completely lost his mind!” A yellow mare called out from the group that was gathered. Everyone was giving shocked gasps and saying various things like ‘he has gone crazy’ and ‘somepony stop him.’

Midnight looked at the mare that talked said that to him. Kill them! Kill them all! Make them all pay for how they made you feel. Midnight lunged forward into the crowd and grabbed a hold of the yellow pony. He picked her up with his hoof and threw her at a stand located near them. The mare hit the stand and it collapsed on top of her.

Screams were beginning to erupt from all of the ponies. “Stop it, He’s trying to kill us all, STOP HIM!” a pony yelled from a small group that broke off from the large one.

Midnight smiled manically, it spanning from ear to ear. “You want to stop me? Ha ha ha, I’ll save you from having to see me. I’ll save you all from having to see me. DON”T YOU TRY TO STOP ME!” he yelled at all of the ponies that were still close enough to hear him.

-Present-

Midnight clutched his head. The thoughts swirling through his head making him sick to his stomach. What happened to all of these ponies? Make them stop, MAKE THE MEMORIES STOP! Midnight started to cry where he sat on the ground. The tears slid down his cheeks and spattered onto the ground below. “Make them stop, just make the thoughts stop.” Midnight got to his feet despite him wanting too just stay sitting there and keep hoping that this was just a horrid nightmare that wouldn’t end.

Midnight began walking the streets again. He was walking without any idea where he was going. Is this why the town is deserted? Did something terrible happen to all of these ponies here? As he walked the sound of the wind started to make him feel really cold. I am alone, that pony is gone but what he said is true, I am alone. I have nothing, nopony to talk to.

As midnight walked the streets became more and more disastrous. Puddles of dried blood had become more and more frequent as he walked. He even noticed that some of the puddles also had trails of blood leading off in the direction of the other exit of Ponyville. He was beginning to follow the trails when he noticed something lying over under a tree nearby. What is that? It kind of looks like a pony. Midnight walked over and immediately was overcome with horror.

In front of him on the ground was a light green mare. She had a white mane and a lyre cutie mark on her flank. She was lying there motionless, dried blood was pooled around her. She had a large cut spanning the length of her neck. She was dead, and somepony was the one that killed her. What happened here?

He backed away from the pony on the ground and began following the trails of blood again. Somepony was here, somepony killed that mare. There is something going on here and I am going to find out what has caused all of this.

Midnight followed the trails out of Ponyville and they led him to a medium sized clearing. He stopped and stood there frozen in horror. In front of him were the bodies of at least fifty ponies, male and female, young and old, all of them dead in front of him.

Midnight couldn’t hold it in anymore, he vomited right there onto the ground. He could smell the blood on the bodies in front of him. Something tells me this is worse than what I thought. Something did this; something did not have remorse or any feelings at all to do something like this.

His mind began sending him some more fragments of a memory, he gripped his head again as it began pounding in pain. “LEAVE ME ALONE! STOP DOING THIS TO ME!” Midnight screamed again. His mind continued to bombard him with images and screams from ponies. “Please, just go away, leave me alone” he whispered.

It was all coming back to him now, everything.

-Previous Day-

“THIS IS YOUR REDEMPTION DAY EVERYPONY” Midnight screamed as he looked around to all of the ponies that he could see. “GET AWAY FROM ME! GO AWAY HA HA HA HA.” Midnight was gone; all shreds of sanity have been lost, tossed into the back of his mind like an unused toy. He ran up to two ponies that were trying to clear the debris off of the yellow mare. Midnight jumped into the air and landed onto both of their heads with his hooves, killing them instantly.

He began going around the entire town of Ponyville, slaughtering everypony that he saw. He was so angry with everypony that he did not have any feeling of guilt, or anything for that matter. All he felt was anger. They should have been nice to me. They shouldn’t have underestimated me. Look where it got them…DEAD!

“He searched the town for hours, killing off everypony that he saw, whether they be male or female, young or old, they all needed to die in his eyes. “ YOU ALL CAN’T TOUCH ME NOW! You should have been nice to me; you should have gave me a chance. BUT NOOOO, You thought I was different, and apparently being different isn’t welcome in this town. WELL, WHO’S LAUGHING NOW! I saved you; I saved you all from having to see me.” Midnight said looking around him and laughing. “HA HA HA HA HA.”

Midnight killed everypony that he could. All of the other ones ran and fled the town. Bodies were strewn about the city streets. Midnight just smiled at his handy-work. “Finally they will leave me alone, no more getting bullied by being different.”

Midnight decided that he should do something with the bodies. He began to drag one by one out of the town and to a clearing not too far away. “This shall be your graveyard. All of you will be together forever. You should thank me; I saved you from having to deal with me.” He repeated the process of dragging the bodies out to the clearing for a good four hours before he was finally done.

He stood on the edge of the clearing. A big smile was stretching from ear to ear. He was gone, his mind had snapped under the stress of being alone and tormented by everypony. The darkness inside of him finally grasped a hold of him and was now in full control of him.

“AH HAHAHA HA HA!”

-Present-

Midnight’s mind stopped sending him images of what had happened. He stopped gripping his head and sat up. Only one image remained in his mind, the pony that had killed all of the citizens of this town. “It was me. I was the thing that killed all of them. It was all me” Midnight said as he looked at the pony graveyard in front of him.

A smile slowly started to sweep across his face. “I remember it all, all of it. I remember killing ever last one of them I could. They are all dead.” Midnight started to laugh. Insanity was starting to seep in once again, pushing rational thought to the deepest recesses of his mind to rot. “I will never be tormented again.”

He remembered everything. All of the memories were organized in his brain. His rationality was non-existent anymore. It has been replaced by insanity. Midnight was not in the real world anymore, he was lost into a world of horrible thoughts and feelings of unimaginable hatred and respite.

His smile widened, stretching across his entire face.

“HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!”

THE END

A/N: This story is not meant to be in 100% sync with the song. I had to put in a little twist of my own to make thestory genuine, or it wouldn’t be my story, it would be just another boring read. I don’t know Living Tombstone, but I love all of his songs. If any of you that read this know him, please send him over to check the story out for himself. I hope you enjoyed the story, it was a blast writing it.

September
By: Living Tombstone

I can't remember
What happened in September
When everything is gone
When it's dark and I'm alone

It's been forever
Since I could have remembered
Where the hell is everypony
I just want to know the story
Of what happened right before
I became so alone.

Still can't remember
What happened in September
Back when everypony died
Trails of blood during my stride

I just discovered that
the ponies were defeated
by something really strong
it seemed very weird and wrong
it just doesn't belong
like it came out of this world.

I've regained a small memory
Came to my head just like that suddenly
I think I've gotten a clue
Something tells me this is worse than what I knew.

I just remembered
What happened in September
I'm the one who killed them all
I survived after the fall.

Thank you all for reading!
