Chapter 1: Silence

Silence

                                        Silence

The group of six friends sat huddled in the dark together. All of them had so many things they wanted to say; something to get off their chest, yet they knew they just couldn’t speak. Tension filled the room, weighing heavily on everypony like an anvil, as eyes darted nervously from pony to pony.

Something made a rustling sound outside, causing Twilight’s eyes to bulge in fear. She turned towards Pinkie, and opened her mouth, before putting her hooves over it in realization of what she was going to do. She mimed sighing, as a way to get rid of some of the unneeded stress.

The party pony was doing the worst of the group. Her cheeks were swelled, and sweat was cascading down her forehead like a small waterfall. Silence was something she was not acquainted with, and the past ten minutes had been unrelenting torture, exacerbated by the mere fact that her friends had to do the same thing.

The rest of the group seemed to do be biding very well, given the current situation.

Applejack was staring coldly at the ground. She had the ability to remain silent when necessary. While the unnerving silence drilled its way into Applejack’s mind, she was calmed by the feeling and noise of her own breathing.

Rarity was busy fiddling with some fabric she had found in a corner. As long as her mind was distracted, the fashionista could remain quiet for a very long time. She was paying no attention at all to anypony else, and remaining silent didn’t even seem to faze her.

Rainbow Dash was asleep. The cyan pegasus always seemed to fall asleep when she was bored. Her snoring was barely audible, but it lazily drifted across the room. Her chest rose and fell in perfect succession, maintaining a pattern it had set earlier.

Fluttershy seemed to be doing the best. She was used to remaining quiet, so this was something she was comfortable with. Having two of her friends worrying though frightened her, she didn’t want to see her friends like that.

Pinkie’s face turned a dark shade of red, as she was on the verge of yelling.

Twilight placed her hoof on Pinkie’s shoulder.

Pinkie turned toward her friend, and looked at her with pleading eyes.

Twilight shook her head no.

Pinkie turned her head to the ground in defeat. Almost as quickly, her expression changed to a more fearful one.

“I can’t take it anymore!” she yelled.

“Ha! Looks like Pinkie lost in the quiet game!” Applejack shouted proudly, happy that one of her opponents was defeated. Her eyes drifted across the room, as every one of her friends were staring at her, stifling their laughter.

“Oh, consarn it!”

Fluttershy grinned from her spot, as she watched her two friends sheepishly leave the room. And this is why I'm the world champ at being quiet!
