Chapter 8: Possession

The sun was rising when I opened my eyes. It was dawn, and the woods were quiet. Dashie still slept on my lap as if the night before never happened.

“Hey, wake up” I said as I put my hand on her forehead. She was no longer ill, which I was thankful for, but something still didn’t seem quite right. The Pegasus slowly opened her eyes, and let out a yawn.

“Wh-where are we?” She asked sleepily. Dashie looked at her surroundings, and realized we weren’t in the tent.

“Do you remember last night?” I asked softly. She looked at me with a perplexed face.

“No….” She looked out at the river. “What happened? Didn’t I sleep all night?” She became worried, as if she as well sensed something else was out of place. I hoisted her off of my lap, and I stood up. Her urine still wet on my shorts, I cringed at the warm liquid.

“Uh, you ok?” Dashie asked as she saw me cringe in disgust. I looked at my ruined shorts, then back at her, simply delivering a nod. She shrugged, and looked at the river again. I removed my shirt, and hopped into the river to hopefully rid of the foul smell. After a few minutes, and my shorts all clean, I put my shirt back on and began heading towards the camp.

“H-hey! Wait for me!” Dashie shouted as she galloped to keep up with me. I picked up my pace as she tried to keep up with me. “No fair! You got a head start!” She called out to me. I was now jogging, and I looked back to see Dashie on the ground. Because of her incident last night, I got worried, and rushed back. I knelt down beside her, and checked her pulse.

“Psych!” She shouted as she got up and ran away. I smiled, not surprised I was fooled by her tricks.

“Cheater!” I called out as I began running. I caught up to her and tackled her. We rolled around in the dead leaves, laughing.

-2 Weeks Later-

I’m starting to worry for Dashie. She’s become very sensitive lately, and lashes out in anger a lot. This was never like her, and I wonder why she is doing this. She is also spending a lot of time in the woods alone, muttering a language I’ve never heard before. It sounds unnatural, almost as if she has been possessed. When I try asking her if everything ok, she says yes, but something in her eyes says no. Like she has been trapped inside her own body, screaming for help.

I followed her again today because she brought a knife with her out in the woods. She didn’t go far before she sat down and muttered in that same language I’ve never heard before. I watched in fear as she began to cut herself, blood dripping from the cuts she made. I slowly made my way too her, horrified at the sight.

“D-dashie?” I asked in a low whisper.

“I’m fine” She growled at me.

“Are you sure?” I questioned as I got a bit closer.

“I SAID I’M FINE!” She bellowed as she turned around. Her voice sounded demonic, and her eyes were glowing red. After looking at what HAD been my daughter, I spoke up.

“W-what’s happened to you?” I said in a hoarse voice.

“Nothing, I told you I’m fine, now piss off.” She said as her eyes returned to normal. My daughter had never cursed, at least not at me. Before she could cut herself any further, I tackled her and tried to grab the knife. She was much stronger than I thought, and she bucked me off her. I flew back until hitting a tree, and had the wind knocked out of me.

“Ready to die?” She hissed as she slowly walked towards me, her eyes red again, her voice demonic, and her teeth as sharp as a lions. I Tried to stand up, but I couldn’t find the strength too, like someone was holding me down or the life had been drained from my body. As she towered over me, she whispered in my ear:

“Goodnight, dad”
