Chapter 3
Fire Wing sat behind his desk within his office, looking over all of his files and trying to find some way to get out of the mess he and his allies have found themselves in. "Fire Wing…" one of his private guards suddenly spoke as Fire Wing looked to the stallion’s kneeling form with a raised brow. "Some ponies are here for you, they say that they’ve just killed "The Joker"… “The guard explains as Fire Wing smirked to himself before reaching over to take hold of his cane and stand up.
"Bring him in." he ordered as the bodyguard nodded his head before moving over to the door and waving in two more guards carrying a plastic body-bag, three strange looking young colts behind them. The guards placed the body-bag down onto the desk as Fire Wing moved to unzip it, opening it to find the features of Joker beneath, paint smeared and smudged with blood here and there on his face. Smirking to himself, Fire Wing turns his back to the dead clown and looks at the three Ponies.
"So dead, that's Five Hundred grand…" He starts off only for Joker to rise up, Fire Wing turning quickly at the sound only to find a Knife now at his lips with a hoof on the back of his head…
"How about alive?" Joker asks while the three ponies grab the guards and place three Mini-Crossbows to the sides of their heads and apply pressure to their necks to force them down into kneeling positions. Daring to look down, Fire wing noticed the knife that Joker was using seemed to be hidden behind the colts hoof, as if it were some hidden blade.
"You want to know how I got these scars?" Joker suddenly asks while moving his lips next to Fire Wing's left ear then licks his lips. "My father was… a drinker, and a fiend." Joker begins with a nod of his head as he looked upward as if in thought. "So one night he goes of crazier than usual." Joker then says shakily, as if his whole body was trying to hold back laughter.
"Mommy get’s the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that… NOT. ONE. BIT. “Joker then says with a nod of his head and a strange look in his green eyes.”So, me watching, he takes the knife to her… Laughing while he does it. Then, he turns to me and he says." At this point Joker lowers his voice, using a dark and menacing tone, further terrifying those present… "Why So Serious?" Joker looks Fire Wing in the eyes once more with a strange hate building behind them. "He comes at me with the knife." Once more the colt lowers his voice and leans forward.
"Why So Serious?" Joker then started to put his knife into Fire Wing's mouth, the man's eyes widening in shock as he does so. "He sticks the blade in my mouth…" Joker says darkly while lowering his voice and gritting his teeth behind his lips as he echoes the final words of his story. "Let's put a SMILE on that face." Joker says darkly before licking his lips and looking the old colt in the eyes for a moment.
"And…" He whispers darkly with Fire Wing’s eyes wider than ever as the colt suddenly looks to the side. He sees a wide-eyed and frightened guard staring up at him and can't help a grin as he tilts his head. "Why So Serious?" He asks before slicing through Fire Wing's lips and quickly using his other hand he slits his throat, killing the man as he lets him drop to the floor. Licking his lips the colt then puts his Knife away and gets out of the body bag.
"Now. Our operation is small." He muses while getting up, one of his men nodding his head in agreement with him. "But there's a lot of potential for…" Here Joker stops to consider what he should say and suddenly grins while picking Fire Wing’s cane up into one hoof. "Aggressive Expansion." He offers and gets grins from his men in response. "So which of you FINE gentlemen would like to join our team?" Joker asks in a singsong tone of the Joker before suddenly holding up a hoof. "Oh. There's only one spot open right now, so we're gonna have…" Here Joker snaps Fire Wing's cane in two and looks at the two sharp ends with a grin on his face.
"Tryouts…" He utters darkly while dropping the two pieces to the ground in front of the former bodyguards and walks passed both the guards and his men. "Make it fast…" He then says while his men release the guards before standing back to watch the men fight one another, their weapons at the ready just in case…
Across town as the criminals quietly plotted their next move, a meeting on the other side of the law was currently taking place atop the police HQ. Those currently gathered were Chief Gold Star, Court Bench, and Mare Do Well. Currently things weren’t going so well between two of them.
“YOU’RE SITTING DOWN THERE WITH CORRUPT PIECES OF SHIT LIKE RIVERS AND CLOVERS AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! I’M DOING THIS!”
“IF YOU DO THIS YOU’RE LITERALLY GOING TO BE TARGETED! DO YOU WANT YOUR FIANCÉ TO BE IN THIS WITH YOU?!”
The current argument had sprung up between Gold Star and Court Bench when quite possibly the biggest piece of evidence against the allforponi family was dropped right onto the police headquarters doorstep.
The family’s accountant roughed up but not too bad, was given a choice, be incarcerated for aiding the family, or turn over all evidence and be pardoned. As you can probably guess, the pony choose to sell out his clients, thus leading to this argument.
Gold star wanted to do things slowly. If the allforponi knew that they were going down, they’d do something drastic, something which could essentially kill innocent ponies for no purpose.
Court Bench wanted action, they had the evidence, and by letting things be tied up in bureaucracy, they would be have a bigger chance of corrupt officers interfering and tipping off the family.
All and all Mare Do Well already had to step in twice to keep the two from hoof fighting on top of the building. ‘Why did I come here again?’ Looking over, her eyes narrowed at what was basically a large flashlight. On it was stiletto her her head and infamous hat. The Mare symbol as they were calling it now days.
Sighing under her mask, Mare Do Well listened as the two continued to argue for the next few minutes before Court Bench involved a whole new party. “FINE! We’ll just see if mayor strong hoof chooses my idea!” Storming off, the earth pony raced to the stairs, Gold Star running after him.
Mare Do Well sighed beneath her mask before she too disappeared into the night like a phantom…
The following morning, the meeting took place between chief Gold Star, Court Bench, and the Mayor. Pitching the plan, Court Bench laid how key figures for the trial, much to Gold Star’s chagrin.
“… With Judge Lawford Presiding, there’s no way he could lose the case.”
The mayor leaned back in his fancy seat as he pondered Court Benches words. By using the law in their favor, they could tie everyone in the family together in a single case. That would account for basically every murder, theft, robbery, and assault made in the past decade, all in one trial. Leaning forward, Mayor Strong Hoof leaned his head on his hoofs and looked straight into Court Bench’s eyes. “And you’re sure about here presiding? Remember we can’t have anyone tied remotely to the family.”
Court Bench smiled smugly as he shot Gold Star a winning grin. “Don’t worry; I know for a fact she shared a strong sense of justice. More so than any other judge I’ve ever seen.”
The Mayor sighed as he leaned back, picking up a small rubber ball he kept on his desk; he addressed the two once more. “Look Bench, even if you blow enough smoke to get convictions out of her still are gonna set a new record out there for the largest number of appeals.”
Clearly having thought of this, before Gold Star had a chance to but in, Bench took the floor. “Look, sir, the head guys make bale sure, but the mid level guy, they can’t. The higher ups have been off the streets so long they can’t create new thugs to to their deals. They’re basically stuck while their boys do jail time… Think of all the good you could do with 18 months of clean streets.”
Silence descended upon the office as Gold Star and the Mayor were struck speechless by the idea of it. Before Gold Star could open his mouth, the mayor motioned for him t get out. Knowing he would be unable to win this round, Gold Star walked out.
When the other pony was gone, the mayor motioned for Bench to sit. Taking it, the mayor stood up and and began to walk and talk. “The public likes you, you know that right? That’s probably the only reason that this will ever fly.”
Bench couldn’t help but blush at the words, true as they may be. Was it really that hard to find a good District attorney now days?
“But now it’s on you.”
Those words threw Bench back into reality, to find the mayor hoof crossed and shaking his head. “They’re all going to come after you now. And not just the mob… Politicians, journalists, cops, anyone who’s pocket is about to get lighter. Are you up to it?”
Seeing the nod, the mayor nodded back and turned towards the window, gazing out at the cloudy day his city was experiencing. “Because if they get anything on you, those criminals will be back on the streets, swiftly followed by you and me.” Taking one last look at the city, he gazed at the sky, believing that sunny days were right around the corner.
Instantly this was shattered as something collided with the window of the office. Instantly the mayor turned green as court bench struggled to hold his lunch in. In front of the two, hanging by a noose was a young mare, covered in a cheaply made Mare Do Well suit with white paint covering the face. Attached to the body was a playing card with the mysterious words ‘Will the REAL Mare Do Well please stand up.’ Underneath those words were another set. ‘4:45, look up.’ Looking at the clock, the mayor saw that it currently read 3:30.
‘Perhaps I spoke too soon.’ Were the mayor’s thoughts as he and Court Bench fled the room to alert the police…
As 4:45 rolled around, both colts and mares noticed the sky darken as clouds rolled in to cover the sky. What was strange was that no pegasi seemed to by flying them in, it was as if magic controlled them.
As the clock struck 4:45, the city of Coltham was covered in panic, mainly due to cries of the message the joker had sent more than an hour ago. Suddenly the clouds projected a white square, soon followed by the emergency speakers that littered the city turning on, thus giving audio to the event being witnessed.
At first they all saw nothing but static but soon that changed to show a scene of one of the copy cat Mare Do Well’s from before, only she was tied up in a room looking towards the camera.
"Tell them your name…" A voice ordered which all who knew could immediately tell was the Jokers voice as the Mare in the video whimpered.
"Fr- Free Spirit…" She answered lowly as the Joker laughed lightly to himself.
"Are you the real Mare Do Well?" Joker questioned as all watching could hear the mare whimper as she shakes her head slowly. "No?"The Joker questioned with a slight laugh once more as the mare shaked her head once more.
"No." She reiterated as the Joker laughs to himself once more.
"No? Then why do you dress like her?" Joker then asks while levitating the mask off of the mare and holds it in front of the camera while laughing in a silly manor.
"Because, she's a symbol that we don't have to be afraid of scum like you." The mare says ands the Joker moves closer to her a puts his right hoof onto her cheek.
"Yeah… you do Free Spirit. You REALLY do." He stated darkly while shaking her head before grabbing her hair and making her whimper in fear. In response however Joker muttered a calming shushing while petting the mare and then lightly taps both of her cheeks with his hoof. "So you think that Mare Do Well has made Coltham a better place? Hm?" Joker then questions as Free Spirit merely looks to her side with her eyes screwed shut. "Look at me." Joker suddenly ordered as Free Spirit only turned her head enough to look to the ground before her.
"LOOK AT ME!" Joker said in a booming growl that made half of the city watch jump in fear. On the screen however Free Spirit finally looked up while the Joker moved, turning the camera onto himself.
“You see THIS is how crazy Mare Do Well has made me, Coltham." Joker said while obviously walking around some kind of freezer or something on screen. "If you want order in Coltham … Mare Do Well must take off her mask and turn herself in." Joker ordered while walking and licking his lips. "Oh, and every day that she doesn't people WILL die." Joker stated darkly while looking directly into the camera, his haunting green eyes seeming to bore into all."Starting tonight…" He adds before licking his lips and bringing the camera closer to his face.
"I'm a man of my word…" He adds before laughing insanely while the sounds of the mare, Free Spirit, can easily be heard in the background as the cloud's image is reduced to static once more…
silence consumed the city before panic soon broke out…
End of Chapter
A.N. As you can probably see, I choose to focus more on the joker than on Mare do Well. The fact is that he was simply more badass than batman. Now I’m going to have to cut out some scenes from the movie, mainly due to there not being any car’s and out other vehicles. Thus you won’t be reading the infamous “HIT ME!” line nor the badass car chase scene. However I will try to link events together to make sure that the story will go on.
As for who Mare do Well is… I won’t be revealing who it is until the end of this story; I simply feel that it is best to keep those who are reading guessing. Anyway keep goin and stay golden^^
