Chapter 1

Agent of Chaos
Prologue

Coltham City. Originally built as a second Canterlot, this city quickly became known as the salvation to some, and the damnation to others.

In Coltham a war goes on. This war cannot be regularly seen, however it is always present. This is the war on crime. You see over a hundred years ago onepony known simply as the starter, created a secret group of mares and colts dedicated to helping the city prosper. They gave out loans to small businesses, they protected the city, and gradually helped run it for the mayor.

But as the generations went on, the Allforponi family as they would be called, began to do things more for themselves than anyone else. They egan to demand repayment for loans, charging for protection, and began to even cause problems for the mayor than solve them.

In time they became a crime family, the most powerful in equestria. They stole, they beat, and they killed. This it became a war between police and the crime family. Each step taken towards the destruction of one side was almost instantly rectified by the other. These two forces looked like they would go on fighting forever. That all changed the day one pony changed the game for both sides.

(Scene: Outside Coltham national bank)
A pony with disheveled green mane hanging down in odd angles stands on a street corner facing the bank; atop his head is a blank mask painted over with a clown's face. The pony wears a purple outfit which seems to look like a purple suit, where he would acquire this nobody knows. Upon seeing two figures heading his way the person pulls his clown mask on, a strange face on it that looks like a "Bozo" clown.

walking forward Bozo catches up with the other two people, each wearing an outfit similar to his own with purple clothing. The first one is wearing a "Chuckles" mask while the other is wearing a "Grumpy" type Clown mask over his face. "So what's the plan?" Chuckles asks of Grumpy while taking a crossbow like weapon from Bozo.

"The other two guys are going to deal with security on the roof to keep the police away for us and break open the safe with the gold after they do. We deal with the others." Grumpy explains while nudging to Bozo who merely reached into his suit and pulled out a bolt for said crossbow.

“The bolts are lined with a natural poison, one knick and your done.” Grumpy explains while Bozo gets down and pulls out two very oddly designed cross-bow’s with a quick reload feature and hands one to Chuckles.
"Wow… so we're going in with just three guys?" Chuckles questions as Bozo simply taps his horn on his head. After all, when in doubt, use the gifts Celestia gave you.

"Two guys are on the roof. Every guy gets a share. Five shares is plenty." Grumpy offers and Chuckles tilts his head to one side after a second.

"Six shares, don't forget the guy who planned the job." Chuckles reminds and Grumpy snorts as they both make their way from their hiding spot and towards the bank, Bozo following after them.

"He thinks he can sit the job out and still take a slice? I KNOW why they call him The Joker…" Grumpy grumbles out as they quickly make their way towards the bank while on the roof of the building two men are working on several magical seals. Like the other three they are dressed in a combination of purple suits and clown masks, one wearing a trench coat over his outfit however with a "Happy" Clown mask and the other with a "Dopey" clown mask on.

"So why do they call him The Joker?" Happy questions as they set up the magic array to stop anyone from entering the building prematurely.

"I hear he wears makeup…" Dopey muses mostly to himself aloud and Happy blinks beneath his mask.
"Makeup?" He questions while his partner nods his head.

"Yeah, to scare people. You know, war paint." Dopey offers and Happy has to wonder about that as he and his partner continue their work. Meanwhile below them the other three clowns make their way into the building.

"Let's roll…" Grumpy says while Bozo glances around the area even as they enter the bank silently. Once inside, Bozo closes the main door of the building and then pulls a bomb from his suit and then ties it to the door before following after the other two clowns. Grumpy suddenly raising his Crossbow like weapon into the air and firing it at several of the people to get their attention.

"All right, everypony, heads up, hoofs down!" Grumpy calls out while Chuckles grabs the guard and then holds him down against a nearby table. As he does Bozo heads over to a table and places his gun down and opens his trench coat to reveal multiple Bombs. "I said, heads up, hoofs down!" Grumpy then calls out while grabbing tellers and pulling them out from behind their counters. "Lets go pal I'm making a withdrawal here!" Grumpy then says darkly while pulling a Teller who was pressing the silent alarm button from behind the counter…

Back up above Happy and Dopey were at a wire connection box where wires that led to police HQ were placed. In Dopey's hoofs, the colt had a strange device that had a screen on it and several buttons, a set of instructions in his other hoof as he worked the device. " Here comes the silent alarm… and there it goes." Dopey muses up above as he deals with the security with a smirk on under his mask while working the device, which the Joker had sent them for doing just that. "That's funny, doesn't look like it was heading through the police line, it was going down a different channel…" He mutters while behind him Happy narrows his eyes.

"Is it a problem?" He questions and Dopey merely snorts.

"No I'm done here." He offers only for Happy to shoot him in the back of the head then pick up his own back and make his way into the building. Turning down a hall and making his way down a flight of stairs Happy then sees the vault and nods his head as he walks over to it…

"Now obviously we don't want you doing anything with your hoofs… other than holding on for dear life!" Grumpy says with an amused chuckle as Bozo passes out the many bombs to the people around the bank. "Just a warning to you all, lets those little babies go, and you've got yourselves a one way ticket to hell." Grumpy then utters while Chuckles slams the bottom of his weapon down into the back of the guard he'd grabbed hold of, knocking him to the ground.

"Everybody stay down!" Chuckles calls out only for the manager behind him to finish a spell, a blast of lightning coming from the man's horn as it slammed into his back. Calling the spell once more the man sent it towards Bozo, the colt ducked behind a counter however and quickly made his way towards the end of the counters with Grumpy at his side.

"Do you idiots have any possible idea who you’re stealing from?" The man demands while forming another bolt that Bozo and Grumpy dodged. "You and your friends are dead!" He then calls out while Grumpy looks to Bozo as they stay down behind the counter.

"Got any ideas?" He asks Bozo who considers for a few moments before nodding his head. "Well what is it?" Grumpy questions and Bozo pushes him from behind the counter, the manager firing another small lightning spell at him that slams into his shoulder and knocks him to the ground. Moving quickly Bozo moves from behind their counter and quickly fires his own spells at the man, causing the floor to wrap up around the unicorn and entrap his horn.

Once finished with the spell, the young colt walks over towards the manager to make sure he's incapacitated. Nodding his head once he is sure that the man was down Bozo then turned at a sound and saw Grumpy getting back to his legs.

"What the hell! Are you fucking crazy?" He demands angrily before walking passed Bozo and heading towards the vault in the back as Bozo looks around the bank silently. Heading into the vault however, Grumpy finds Happy as he kneels before the vault with his ear to it. "You almost done?" Grumpy questions and Happy smirks as he then reaches up and opens the vault with a chuckle.

"Open sesame." He offers and Grumpy rolls his eyes before looking around.

"Where's the other guy?" Grumpy asks while Happy takes off his work gloves and slowly stands up.

"Boss said to take him out as soon as he was done. One less share, right." Happy offers and Grumpy nods his head while raising his weapon up towards his back.

"Funny… he told me something similar." He offers and Happy turns around quickly with wide eyes.

"He what… No, no!" He shouts as Grumpy shoots him in the head, his body falling back as Grumpy then reaches down to the man's bag and pulls out several folded bags as he then takes the bags into the vault and starts to dump pounds of gold and thousands of bits into the bags quickly. Nodding to himself the man then starts to drag them out of the vault and into the main room where Bozo was still waiting for him.

"If this Joker guy was so smart he'd have had us bring something to carry all this." Grumpy says while placing the bags down and Bozo nods, only to come face to face with grumpy aiming his weapon at his head. "I'm betting the Joker told you to kill me as soon as we got the cash…" He says simply and Bozo sighs to himself before raising his right front hoof and moved his sleeve enough to show a watch, which he took a quick glance at.

"No, no. I kill the other guy…" Bozo offers, confusing Grumpy who continues to point the weapon at him.

"Other guy?" Grumpy questions while Bozo moves further to the side with Grumpy moving to stay in front of him. "What other guy?" Grumpy then demands and is sent flying as Bozo's bomb on the door behind him detonates, sending the colt flying into a counter and snapping his neck. From the newly made hole comes a new Clown with a "Smiley" mask who looked towards Grumpy.

"Whoa, that guy's not getting up, eh?" Smiley offered while Bozo grabbed a bag and then dragged it over to the hole. "Right, I got the cash…" Smiley then begins to throw the bags into a wagon which was currently parked halfway in the bank. "That's a lot of money…" Smiley whispers to himself as he finished throwing the bags into the wagon. "Where are the other guys?" He then asks only for Bozo to turn and shoot him in his head.

"Think your smart huh… your boss… he'll just do the same to you…" The manager mutters from his spot nearby as Bozo walks over to him slowly. "I remember when people in this town used to believe in something. Honor… Respect…" The man says while looking up at Bozo as he then kneels down in front of him. "What do you believe in huh? WHAT DO YOU BELIEVE IN!" The manager then demands of Bozo who then shoves a long silver cylinder into his mouth.

"I believe, that whatever doesn't kill you, simply makes you…" Bozo starts to say before reaching up to remove his mask, the manager's eyes widening in shock and fear at what he's seeing before his eyes. A young stallion, with bright emerald green eyes, his lips have two long curved scars at the sides forming into a twisted Glasgow grin, with white paint over most of his face and fingers, black paint around his eyes and red formed over his lips and scars like a clowns grin.

"Stranger." The Joker finally offers to the manager darkly before nodding to him and quickly turning his back to him while walking off. A piece of purple string that was from his old worn jacket is leading to a pin of some sort located on the cylinder. Jumping into the vehicle brought by the last clown, Joker’s horn glowed for a second as the brainwashed colts pulling the cart began to rejoin others on the road. As Joker took off, he pulls the string from his coat and breaks it off as the pin in the cylinder up above comes off. The Manager's eyes widen at this only for him to moan out in relief seeing green smoke rise out of the object…

A second later however, something fell from the colt's lips that had been wedged between them and the cylinder… upon hitting the floor, a card with the word JOKER printed on it twice with a clown like figure on the front landed…

A.N. Now keep in mind this is my first story and most of it is just a ponyfied version of the opening of the dark knight. Now I’m going to try to at least get through the dark knight with the elements of harmony as the great and powerful TRI- I mean Batman.

Anyway review if you like it, heck review if you don’t like it.

Chapter 2

Agent of Chaos
Chapter 2

The streets of Coltham lay barren as night had descended upon the city. For most in the downtown area of the city, this was a welcome to the chaos that once plagued it a few months ago. However things were not as peaceful as they seemed. Inside a now rundown apartment complex, two groups were meeting…

“Well, looks who’s come…” came the voice of a colt with a thick beard and a pair of muscular stallions standing next to him. On his flank there rested a picture of a dog collar, corresponding to his name ‘dog mane.’ Behind the three there rested a cage with a locked steel door, barking heard on the other side of it. “Let’s get this going, my dogs are hungry.”

Across from the three stood another three stallions, two appearing similar to dog mane’s own while the one in the middle stood apart from the others. On his head, the pony wore a cotton mask with small bits of straw sticking out of it. His cutie mark was hidden behind a suit the colt wore. “We’re here, as per our agreement. Let’s just get this over with; I’d hate to run into some unwanted company.”

Dog mane nodded as he motioned for one of his guards to step forward, a briefcase in his mouth. “I’ve got the money if you’ve got the chemicals.” The masked pony nodded before reaching behind himself to produce another briefcase. He was about to pass it to one of his own guards before Dog Mane stopped him. “Wait… show me first Scarecrow, I want to see it first.”

The Now identified Scarecrow visibly tensed as he reached down and unclipped both sides of the briefcase. All was silent for a moment before Scarecrow spun around and kicked the briefcase towards Dog mane’s group.

As it reached a halt thick smoke began to leak out of the small case, quickly blinding the area in thick smoke. As it reached pitch black darkness, the sound of hoof steps could be heard charging the trio. ‘Dang, and here I thought this would be easy.’

Within a few moments, the apartment complex was flooded with fighting….

Across the street, there stood a single figure. Covering her head there was a navy blue material, only leaving her eyes to be covered by a light blue cloth. From her torso down there was a purple costume with an ‘M’ on her chest. The costume led to a cape, which seemed to catch in a slight breeze and make her appear as an imposing figure to all who saw her. Finally to top it all off there rested a purple fedora on her head.

This was the hero of Coltham, the one all criminals in the city feared. This was the mysterious Mare Do Well.

For the past few months, this mare had almost single handedly driven down the crime rate in this city. Of course this didn’t escape the public’s eye, but local police had recently begun to team up with the mare to help stop the city’s crime.

This currently led to the current situation.

Mare Do Well looked down from her spot on a building towards the ruckus and face hoof’d. 'Copycats… I have fucking copycats…' She inwardly grumbled while watching the colts and mares dressed in mare do well like gear try and fight off the trio of crooks.

Now while the trio of crooks were outnumbered three to one, the vigilantes were actually getting the crap beaten out of them. For a moment it looked like the vigilanties would actually take one of the guards down. That was stopped when the criminal known as Dog Mane opened the cage of vicious dogs.

Not going to stand this anymore, Mare Do Well leapt from her perch from the building across the street and smashed through the window. Instantly all eyes turned towards here for a moment as Mare Do Well sprang into action.

Dog Mane, upon seeing the one mare he was trying to avoid show up promptly split the scene.

For the next few minutes, the only sound heard in the thick smoke was the sound of hoof and rope meeting flesh. Finally after several minutes, the smoke finally cleared. Laid out across the room was both the criminals and the copycats.

Feeling like here work was done, Mare Do Well turned to leave through the window. As she did so, one of the copycats called out to her. “Please Mare Do Well, let us help you! We can help change the city!” Calmly turning to the mare, Mare Do Well shook her head. Her voice was gravely, and held no warmth s she spoke, “Don’t get involved with this, trust me.”

With those words Mare do Well left the building, disappearing into the night…

The following morning, a meeting was called between the Allforponi family to discuss the new events taking place.

Currently walking into the building where the meeting was to take place was an old withered Pegasus named Fire wing. His fur was a sky blue while his gray mane and beard seemed to bring an age to him. He was the Allforponi’s security leader, having trained some of the best goons the family has seen in generations. However lately all of his colts and mares were being taken out by one single mare.

Fire Wing walked into a room with several Colt’s and Mare’s within, several guards flanking each of them. Most notable were Tender Hoof and Blue Sky of the city's council, as well as Room Service, the leader of the city’s most predominant hotel chain. Then there was Dog Mane with his three canine partner's with him, and last was of course himself. "We have a problem." Fire Wing stated while moving to sit down at one side, Dog Mane rolling his eyes in response.

"No duh. Thanks to the police finding out about our stash of cash, the fucking law enforcement is starting to crack down." He grumbles angrily before Fire Wing looks over to Tender Hoof with a frown.

"Who the hell is stupid enough to steal from us?" Dog Mane demands angrily while Fire Wing frowns to himself.

"He's a two-bit whack-job in makeup and some old cheap purple clothes from what I've learned." He offers while Blue Sky frowns darkly, making a note to get rid of this annoying pest as soon as she is able too.

"Why don't you and your group just get rid of this nuisance, Fire Wing?" The hotel chain owner questions as Fire Wing frowns deeper than before.

"We haven't been able to find him. He's as slippery as a Celestia-Damned fish." He growls out while the Dog trainer leans forward.

"Besides that he's nothing but a common criminal, he's nobody to worry about." Tender Hoof then states with Blue Sky nodding her head in agreement with her long time partner and Co Worker.

"Too true. Let's skip this, that Joker isn't the problem here. The problem is The Law and that new Lawyer, Court Bench coming down on us." Dog Mane says only for all of them to turn at a voice from a shadowed corner in the back of the room.

"Ha ha ha…" The voice echoes as the silhouette of a person becomes visible. "Ah, hee hoo hoo ha, ha hee hoo, hoo hoo haa." The person continues to mock laugh while walking into the light, allowing them all to see the person.

He was young, possibly only in his mid 20’s with a lanky yet athletic build and bright emerald green eyes. He has disheveled hair that is tinted green, white paint covering his face and ears ,with black done around his eyes. A pair of long scars from the sides of his lips forming into a Glasgow grin with red smeared over his lips and scars like some form of twisted clown.
The Colt was wearing what he always wore, a purple suite which was sure to hold a large amount of goodies inside.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen…" The Joker offered while looking around then points at Tender Hoof accusingly. "And I'm not a common criminal."Joker offered as Tender Hoof looked at him with obvious annoyance clearly visible on his face.

"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't have my boys kill you where you stand?" Fire Wing asks darkly and Joker looks at the man before levitating a pencil out of his coat.

"How ‘bout a magic trick. I'm going to make this pencil disappear…" He offered before stabbing the pencil down into the table they were all sitting at.

"Tear this freak's head off." Fire Wing growls in order to one of his security men. As he neared him Joker quickly reaches out to grab the Stallion by the back of his head before then quickly slamming the Colt's head down where the Pencil was and allowing him to fall to the ground.

"Tadaa! It's ahh… It's gone!" Joker says while motioning to the spot, the dog colt nodding his head with an amused smirk and obviously impressed with the little "Magic Trick". "Oh and my clothes weren't cheap…" Joker says while sitting down and adjusting his trench coat. "You should know, you bought them…" Joker offers with an amused grin while Fire Wing starts to get up.

"Sit down." Dog Mane states while looking at Joker with obvious Interest as Fire Wing fumes towards him. "I want to hear his proposition." He says simply while motioning to Joker as Fire Wing slowly sits back down himself.

"Alright, now lets turn the clock back a year no one in Coltham would DARE cross any of you…" Joker says and looks all around. "Well, what happened? Did your balls drop off? You see a pony, like me…" Joker starts to say only for Fire Wing to scowl towards him.

"FREAK." He says earning a few chuckles from the ponies around the table and Joker mentally groans.

"A pony like me…" He starts to say again only to have lost his train of thought. "Look listen, I know why you all have your little…" Joker clears his throat at this. "Group Therapy Sessions" in broad daylight. I know why you're afraid to go out at Night…" Joker says then licks his lips while leaning forward to look all around. "Mare Do Well…." The Joker could feel all attention on him; nobody spoke a word at all. “You see she’s shown Coltham your true colors, and they are not pretty. Court Bench and the police, they’re only the beginning. “

"And how exactly do you propose we fix this problem?" Blue Sky questioned as the Joker licked his lips once more.

"Ah, that's simple, we ah, kill Mare Do Well." He says and several of the people in the room look at him and laugh.

"If it's so simple, why haven't you done it already?" The Hotel owner questions as Joker looks at him with a strange grin.
"If you're good at something, never do it for free." He offers in response before the Dog colt asks the obvious question.

"How much do you want?"

"Half" This brought immediate chuckles to the ponies as Fire Wing spoke up once more.

“You’re crazy.”

Joker licked his lips and responded, “I’m not, I’m really not.” The T at the end of the sentence coming out sharp and carrying force behind it. The room fell silent once more as everyone listened in as the Joker continued. “If we don’t stop this now, Fire Feather there, won’t be able to get a penny for his poor dead grandma.” He stated while pointing his hoof at the seething elder.

"Enough from the clown!" He growls while he and his guards start to get up. Seeing this Joker get’s up as well, doing so as as he opens his coat to show numerous bombs stowed within.

"Ah ah ah… Let's not BLOW this out of proportion shall we?"he says says while several of the people in the room curse and move away from the psychotic colt.

"You think you can steal from us and just walk away?" Fire Wing demands unafraid while Joker immediately answers, "Yeah."
Fire Wing snarls even more angrily than before, teeth gnashed together into a snarl.

"You better watch your back Clown, I'm putting a bounty on your head. Five hundred thousand for this clown DEAD. A Million Alive, so I can teach him some manners first!" he says through gritted teeth while Joker’s horn glows for a second as a card levitates itself out of the pocket in his vest the word JOKER printed on it.

"Listen… why don't you contact me when you're ready to take this a little more, SERIOUSLY…" he says before putting the card down onto the table in the room and then smirked.”Here's my card…" before slowly backing away from the group to another door, kicking it open before turning around and making his way out of the area…

End of Chapter

A.N. Alright, here’s the second chapter to this story. As you can see, Joker has introduced himself to the leaders of the family while Mare Do Well has made her appearance. As for who is under the mask… I’m not telling! Keep goin and stay golden^^

Chapter 3

Agent of Chaos
Chapter 3

Fire Wing sat behind his desk within his office, looking over all of his files and trying to find some way to get out of the mess he and his allies have found themselves in. "Fire Wing…" one of his private guards suddenly spoke as Fire Wing looked to the stallion’s kneeling form with a raised brow. "Some ponies are here for you, they say that they’ve just killed "The Joker"… “The guard explains as Fire Wing smirked to himself before reaching over to take hold of his cane and stand up.

"Bring him in." he ordered as the bodyguard nodded his head before moving over to the door and waving in two more guards carrying a plastic body-bag, three strange looking young colts behind them. The guards placed the body-bag down onto the desk as Fire Wing moved to unzip it, opening it to find the features of Joker beneath, paint smeared and smudged with blood here and there on his face. Smirking to himself, Fire Wing turns his back to the dead clown and looks at the three Ponies.

"So dead, that's Five Hundred grand…" He starts off only for Joker to rise up, Fire Wing turning quickly at the sound only to find a Knife now at his lips with a hoof on the back of his head…

"How about alive?" Joker asks while the three ponies grab the guards and place three Mini-Crossbows to the sides of their heads and apply pressure to their necks to force them down into kneeling positions. Daring to look down, Fire wing noticed the knife that Joker was using seemed to be hidden behind the colts hoof, as if it were some hidden blade.

"You want to know how I got these scars?" Joker suddenly asks while moving his lips next to Fire Wing's left ear then licks his lips. "My father was… a drinker, and a fiend." Joker begins with a nod of his head as he looked upward as if in thought. "So one night he goes of crazier than usual." Joker then says shakily, as if his whole body was trying to hold back laughter.

"Mommy get’s the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that… NOT. ONE. BIT. “Joker then says with a nod of his head and a strange look in his green eyes.”So, me watching, he takes the knife to her… Laughing while he does it. Then, he turns to me and he says." At this point Joker lowers his voice, using a dark and menacing tone, further terrifying those present… "Why So Serious?" Joker looks Fire Wing in the eyes once more with a strange hate building behind them. "He comes at me with the knife." Once more the colt lowers his voice and leans forward.

"Why So Serious?" Joker then started to put his knife into Fire Wing's mouth, the man's eyes widening in shock as he does so. "He sticks the blade in my mouth…" Joker says darkly while lowering his voice and gritting his teeth behind his lips as he echoes the final words of his story. "Let's put a SMILE on that face." Joker says darkly before licking his lips and looking the old colt in the eyes for a moment.

"And…" He whispers darkly with Fire Wing’s eyes wider than ever as the colt suddenly looks to the side. He sees a wide-eyed and frightened guard staring up at him and can't help a grin as he tilts his head. "Why So Serious?" He asks before slicing through Fire Wing's lips and quickly using his other hand he slits his throat, killing the man as he lets him drop to the floor. Licking his lips the colt then puts his Knife away and gets out of the body bag.

"Now. Our operation is small." He muses while getting up, one of his men nodding his head in agreement with him. "But there's a lot of potential for…" Here Joker stops to consider what he should say and suddenly grins while picking Fire Wing’s cane up into one hoof. "Aggressive Expansion." He offers and gets grins from his men in response. "So which of you FINE gentlemen would like to join our team?" Joker asks in a singsong tone of the Joker before suddenly holding up a hoof. "Oh. There's only one spot open right now, so we're gonna have…" Here Joker snaps Fire Wing's cane in two and looks at the two sharp ends with a grin on his face.

"Tryouts…" He utters darkly while dropping the two pieces to the ground in front of the former bodyguards and walks passed both the guards and his men. "Make it fast…" He then says while his men release the guards before standing back to watch the men fight one another, their weapons at the ready just in case…

Across town as the criminals quietly plotted their next move, a meeting on the other side of the law was currently taking place atop the police HQ. Those currently gathered were Chief Gold Star, Court Bench, and Mare Do Well. Currently things weren’t going so well between two of them.

“YOU’RE SITTING DOWN THERE WITH CORRUPT PIECES OF SHIT LIKE RIVERS AND CLOVERS AND YOU HAVE THE AUDACITY TO TELL ME TO CALM DOWN! I’M DOING THIS!”

“IF YOU DO THIS YOU’RE LITERALLY GOING TO BE TARGETED! DO YOU WANT YOUR FIANCÉ TO BE IN THIS WITH YOU?!”

The current argument had sprung up between Gold Star and Court Bench when quite possibly the biggest piece of evidence against the allforponi family was dropped right onto the police headquarters doorstep.

The family’s accountant roughed up but not too bad, was given a choice, be incarcerated for aiding the family, or turn over all evidence and be pardoned. As you can probably guess, the pony choose to sell out his clients, thus leading to this argument.

Gold star wanted to do things slowly. If the allforponi knew that they were going down, they’d do something drastic, something which could essentially kill innocent ponies for no purpose.

Court Bench wanted action, they had the evidence, and by letting things be tied up in bureaucracy, they would be have a bigger chance of corrupt officers interfering and tipping off the family.

All and all Mare Do Well already had to step in twice to keep the two from hoof fighting on top of the building. ‘Why did I come here again?’ Looking over, her eyes narrowed at what was basically a large flashlight. On it was stiletto her her head and infamous hat. The Mare symbol as they were calling it now days.

Sighing under her mask, Mare Do Well listened as the two continued to argue for the next few minutes before Court Bench involved a whole new party. “FINE! We’ll just see if mayor strong hoof chooses my idea!” Storming off, the earth pony raced to the stairs, Gold Star running after him.

Mare Do Well sighed beneath her mask before she too disappeared into the night like a phantom…

The following morning, the meeting took place between chief Gold Star, Court Bench, and the Mayor. Pitching the plan, Court Bench laid how key figures for the trial, much to Gold Star’s chagrin.

“… With Judge Lawford Presiding, there’s no way he could lose the case.”

The mayor leaned back in his fancy seat as he pondered Court Benches words. By using the law in their favor, they could tie everyone in the family together in a single case. That would account for basically every murder, theft, robbery, and assault made in the past decade, all in one trial. Leaning forward, Mayor Strong Hoof leaned his head on his hoofs and looked straight into Court Bench’s eyes. “And you’re sure about here presiding? Remember we can’t have anyone tied remotely to the family.”

Court Bench smiled smugly as he shot Gold Star a winning grin. “Don’t worry; I know for a fact she shared a strong sense of justice. More so than any other judge I’ve ever seen.”

The Mayor sighed as he leaned back, picking up a small rubber ball he kept on his desk; he addressed the two once more. “Look Bench, even if you blow enough smoke to get convictions out of her still are gonna set a new record out there for the largest number of appeals.”

Clearly having thought of this, before Gold Star had a chance to but in, Bench took the floor. “Look, sir, the head guys make bale sure, but the mid level guy, they can’t. The higher ups have been off the streets so long they can’t create new thugs to to their deals. They’re basically stuck while their boys do jail time… Think of all the good you could do with 18 months of clean streets.”

Silence descended upon the office as Gold Star and the Mayor were struck speechless by the idea of it. Before Gold Star could open his mouth, the mayor motioned for him t get out. Knowing he would be unable to win this round, Gold Star walked out.

When the other pony was gone, the mayor motioned for Bench to sit. Taking it, the mayor stood up and and began to walk and talk. “The public likes you, you know that right? That’s probably the only reason that this will ever fly.”
Bench couldn’t help but blush at the words, true as they may be. Was it really that hard to find a good District attorney now days?

“But now it’s on you.”

Those words threw Bench back into reality, to find the mayor hoof crossed and shaking his head. “They’re all going to come after you now. And not just the mob… Politicians, journalists, cops, anyone who’s pocket is about to get lighter. Are you up to it?”

Seeing the nod, the mayor nodded back and turned towards the window, gazing out at the cloudy day his city was experiencing. “Because if they get anything on you, those criminals will be back on the streets, swiftly followed by you and me.” Taking one last look at the city, he gazed at the sky, believing that sunny days were right around the corner.

Instantly this was shattered as something collided with the window of the office. Instantly the mayor turned green as court bench struggled to hold his lunch in. In front of the two, hanging by a noose was a young mare, covered in a cheaply made Mare Do Well suit with white paint covering the face. Attached to the body was a playing card with the mysterious words ‘Will the REAL Mare Do Well please stand up.’ Underneath those words were another set. ‘4:45, look up.’ Looking at the clock, the mayor saw that it currently read 3:30.

‘Perhaps I spoke too soon.’ Were the mayor’s thoughts as he and Court Bench fled the room to alert the police…

As 4:45 rolled around, both colts and mares noticed the sky darken as clouds rolled in to cover the sky. What was strange was that no pegasi seemed to by flying them in, it was as if magic controlled them.

As the clock struck 4:45, the city of Coltham was covered in panic, mainly due to cries of the message the joker had sent more than an hour ago. Suddenly the clouds projected a white square, soon followed by the emergency speakers that littered the city turning on, thus giving audio to the event being witnessed.

At first they all saw nothing but static but soon that changed to show a scene of one of the copy cat Mare Do Well’s from before, only she was tied up in a room looking towards the camera.

"Tell them your name…" A voice ordered which all who knew could immediately tell was the Jokers voice as the Mare in the video whimpered.

"Fr- Free Spirit…" She answered lowly as the Joker laughed lightly to himself.

"Are you the real Mare Do Well?" Joker questioned as all watching could hear the mare whimper as she shakes her head slowly. "No?"The Joker questioned with a slight laugh once more as the mare shaked her head once more.

"No." She reiterated as the Joker laughs to himself once more.

"No? Then why do you dress like her?" Joker then asks while levitating the mask off of the mare and holds it in front of the camera while laughing in a silly manor.

"Because, she's a symbol that we don't have to be afraid of scum like you." The mare says ands the Joker moves closer to her a puts his right hoof onto her cheek.

"Yeah… you do Free Spirit. You REALLY do." He stated darkly while shaking her head before grabbing her hair and making her whimper in fear. In response however Joker muttered a calming shushing while petting the mare and then lightly taps both of her cheeks with his hoof. "So you think that Mare Do Well has made Coltham a better place? Hm?" Joker then questions as Free Spirit merely looks to her side with her eyes screwed shut. "Look at me." Joker suddenly ordered as Free Spirit only turned her head enough to look to the ground before her.

"LOOK AT ME!" Joker said in a booming growl that made half of the city watch jump in fear. On the screen however Free Spirit finally looked up while the Joker moved, turning the camera onto himself.

“You see THIS is how crazy Mare Do Well has made me, Coltham." Joker said while obviously walking around some kind of freezer or something on screen. "If you want order in Coltham … Mare Do Well must take off her mask and turn herself in." Joker ordered while walking and licking his lips. "Oh, and every day that she doesn't people WILL die." Joker stated darkly while looking directly into the camera, his haunting green eyes seeming to bore into all."Starting tonight…" He adds before licking his lips and bringing the camera closer to his face.

"I'm a man of my word…" He adds before laughing insanely while the sounds of the mare, Free Spirit, can easily be heard in the background as the cloud's image is reduced to static once more…

silence consumed the city before panic soon broke out…

End of Chapter

A.N. As you can probably see, I choose to focus more on the joker than on Mare do Well. The fact is that he was simply more badass than batman. Now I’m going to have to cut out some scenes from the movie, mainly due to there not being any car’s and out other vehicles. Thus you won’t be reading the infamous “HIT ME!” line nor the badass car chase scene. However I will try to link events together to make sure that the story will go on.

As for who Mare do Well is… I won’t be revealing who it is until the end of this story; I simply feel that it is best to keep those who are reading guessing. Anyway keep goin and stay golden^^

Chapter 4

Agent of Chaos
Chapter 4

As the chaos and panic erupted above, beneath Coltham a troubled mare held her head in her hoofs. The choice was not an easy one to make. She either turned herself in and have every rotten scumbag from all over equestrian go after her home and friends. Or stay hidden and let the Joker continue to rein destruction and death across the city. Both ways she lost, and she had a feeling the Joker knew it.

‘Celestia give me strength,’ she thought as she gazed around her work space. Pictures of the Joker lined her work space, along with documents detailing his known connections and what not. However unless she got her hoofs on him, they’d never know who the pony way. “Times like these I wish I’d stayed in ponyvill.”

“But then who would protect Coltham?” The voice was smooth and calming, a warm welcome to what she was facing thus far. Turning around, Mare Do Well faced the only person to know who lay under her mask. He was a light brown colt with a dark brown mane. He stood with a knowing look in his eyes and an hourglass mark on his flank.

“I Know Whooves, but it just doesn’t make sense. I know he has ties to the Allforponi family, but I can’t see why they choose him. They had at least some form of boundary, but with this pony they’ve crossed the line.” Whooves just shook his head as he began to walk around the cave, he himself voicing his thoughts as he went. “Perhaps it is you who has crossed the line Mare Do well.” Out of habit, he’d begunt o call her that even when they were along. Now that she was complaining, but it did make things seem more tense than need be. “You squeezed them; you hammered them, and pushed them back to the point of desperation. And in their desperation they turned to a man they didn’t fully understand.”

Mare Do Well shook her head, dismissing the idea as she began to walk towards the exit of the cave. “Criminals aren’t complicated Whooves, I just need to figure out what he’s after.” Whooves, seeing that his friend hadn’t seen what he was laying out, continued. “With all due respect, perhaps this is a pony you do not fully understand…” Catching up to the hero, Whooves began to retell one of his infamous stories.

“You see, a few years ago I was serving under the local government in Stalliongrad. You see, they were trying to buy the loyalty of several diamond dog native tribes, with precious stones. However, their caravans were being raided by a bandit in a small forest just a few miles from the destination.” Like many stories before, Mare Do Well listened in. Somehow Whooves stories had a way of foreshadowing future events, as if the colt could see through time.

“So we went looking for the stones…” Whooves had moved in front of Mare Do Well as he went on, stopping her and forcing her to look directly at him as he continued. “But in six months, we never met anyone who had traded with him.” Mare Do Well’s interest peaked as he heard this. Sure diamonds and gems were easy to come by, but in places like stalliongrad the gems were horded in mass by the diamond dogs. It was a well known fact that gems around there would fetch for quite a hoof-full of bits.

“One day, I saw a filly playing with a ruby, the size of a tangerine. The bandit had been throwing them all away.” Even behind the mask, Mare Do Well’s confusion could be felt as she spoke out. “But why steal them?”

Whooves just chuckled and shook his head, knowing this would only confuse his friend further. “Because it was good sport, because some ponies aren’t looking for anything logical, like money. They can’t be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with…” As he trailed off, His head, and subsequently Mare Do Well’s both turned to gaze as a hanging picture of the Joker, his insane grin ever caught on camera.

“Some ponies just want to watch the world burn.”

As he finished those last chilling words, he turned around and continued to trot towards the exit of the cave. As he was almost swallowed up by darkness, Mare Do Well’s voice called out one last time.

“Did you ever catch the bandit?” The way she spoke it, it was almost as if she was begging to hear the answer she was looking for. Seeing a sad nod she asked for the how.

Whooves looked uneasily at his friend before he muttered out his answer. Even though it was barely above a whisper, it carried all the force of it being told directly in her face.

“We burned the forest down.”

With that, Whooves lest the cave, leaving behind a distraught Mare Do Well to look at the Joker in a new light. Not of one pony willing to do anything to satisfy their gain. But of a pony who enjoyed what he did and did it because he felt like it…

The Following morning, all across the city colts and stallions were being pulled off the streets and taken into custody. Each of them for ties to the Allforponi family in one way or another.

Currently sitting in a high end restaurant, Dog mane and Room Service sat at a table, calmly discussing the future events as they slowly shifted to talk of the Joker. “I’m telling you Mane, this guy is legitimately psycho; he’ll stab us in the back if we let him.”

Dog Mane, clearly having heard this before pushed further. “I’m telling you, he could get us exactly what we need. He has the plans; he has the will to do what no pony has ever done before! You saw the chaos he spread; imagine what he could do for us!”

Room Service just shook his head while leaning it against one hoof on the table. “All I can imagine is what he could do To us if we let him get close.” The two would have continued to debate things had Gold Star not walked up next to him. “Hello boys.” Gold Star said with a bit of glee in his voice, as if holding something over their heads they knew nothing about.

Receiving a nod from both ponies, Dog mane spoke up. “So what do you want Lead Star, we’re kind of busy talking here.”

Gold Star ignored the comment about his name, knowing that it would be him with the last laugh.

“You see, there have been some… interesting things going on in Coltham lately. With the rising threat of the joker, we have had to… cut through the red tape a bit.” Seeing the confused look and growing look of panic on Room Service’s face, he went on, all too aware of the numerous police ponies slowly entering behind him.

“Thanks to the new DA, we’re finally taking down the family, you included.” Dog mane, being quick and impulsive, made one desperate attempt to run. He didn’t make it five steps before he was tackled; Room service just shook his head at his associate before calmly letting police take him away…

Outside the restaurant, as Dong Mane was being lead away by a chunky officer named Briar Hoof, he slipped a note into his pocket. Speaking barely above a whisper, he made sure that the officer got what he was saying.

“Make sure the Joker get’s this message.” Oh how it paid to have corrupt officers in their pockets.

As he was lead in, he thought to what the next few days would hold. Court Bench would pay for moving like this, and even though he wouldn’t be able to get him, he had full faith in the Joker to do it for him…

The Coltham courthouse was packed full off officers and criminals as half sat in chains while others sat in uniform. This was a big day; if all went according to plan then the streets would be clean for the first time in generations.

Sitting behind the court bench, a Black robed earth pony sat rifling through evidence. Each page she read through, the crimes got worse. “579 counts of theft… 1287 counts of murder... 753 counts of illegal drug trade…” she stopped suddenly as a playing card appeared under a pile of papers. Seeing it as evidence tying the family to the joker, she shrugged and moved the card over with her hoof before continuing. “97 counts of kidnapping… and 6 unpaid carriage tickets. How do you all plead?”

Almost instantly she regretted it as the court room erupted in shouts of guilty, not guilty, and death threats. Rubbing her head she banged her gavel for order, unaware of a sinister plot moving behind the scenes…

As the day concluded, hundreds of ponies were being forced into carriages, each of them found guilty because of crimes they themselves committed or others committed. Standing atop the steps to the courthouse, Court Bench stood there with a pleased smile on his face. He would have continued to watch hadn’t he felt a pair of hoofs wrap around his neck.

Looking over, he saw the love of his life. Tender Heart, his fiancé and soon to be wife. She was a beautiful mare, having a lavender coat and long black hair; she was everything he could ask for a woman. She was smart, funny, and had so much courage that he sometimes thought she would go through hell and back just to see him. When around her, he truly felt complete.

“So now what, Mr. Big shot?” With news of the trial spreading, it wouldn’t be long before Court Bench became the talk of the city. Already a party was being hosted tonight in his honor, being hosted in the top floor of the most expensive hotel, the Upton.

“So when will I see you tonight?” she asked as their lips met for a quick kiss. This was soon broken off as reporters and journalists converged on the star of the hour…

Across town, hidden in an old warehouse, the Joker sat patiently in a large chair, darkness blanketing him and those around him.

Slowly however, one colt stumbled forward, legs shaking in fear of telling his boss the news of what had happened to most of the family. “M-m-mister J-Joker sir. We’ve received word that members of the family have been arrested.”

“How many...?”

The Joker’s voice cut through the air, making those present flinch in fear, each one praying that they would survive the colt’s wrath.

“Almost everyone sit.” At the delivering of the news, the colt dived to the floor and covered his head with his front legs, just praying the joker would get his death over with fast. However instead of the cries of anger, all he heard was a chuckling.
Slowly it began to build, soon turning into full blown maniacal laughter.

“Wonderful, now we can really get this party started!”

Jumping down from his chair, the Joker began to make his way to the door. With a turn over his shoulder, he called out to the remaining gangsters. “Come on boys, it’s time we crashed a party!”…

A.N. Alright so this chapter came out a bit later than I’d have liked and it’s a bit shorter as well. I just felt that this was a good stopping point for this chapter of the story. Anyway until next time, keep goin and stay golden^^
