The Dragon Migration

Chapter 1: The Dragon Migration

“Come on Fluttershy, it’ll be fun.” Twilight said.

“There’s nothing fun about dragons. Big , scary yes, fun, no.” I said as Dash dragged me to the door.

“But Fluttershy, the great dragon migration happens only once in a generation, do you really want to pass up a chance like that?” Twilight asked.

By this point, Dash had me at the door and trying to push me out.

“Now that you put it that way, YES!” I said.

“Oh Fluttershy, we just don’t want to you miss out.” Twilights said.

“Miss out on what? Dragons? Big scaly fire-breathing dragons?” I asked.

“Well, yeah.” the purple unicorn answered.

“Thanks, but no thanks.” I said, still trying not to get out the door.

“Look Fluttershy, I watched that boring butterfly migration with you,” Rainbow said, annoyed, showing me a picture, “so now it’s you turn to watch the dragon migration with me, you owe me.”

It was a good thing she had my back to her, because me patience was running out. All I can feel was angry building up in me and you could see it all over my face.

“I. said. NO!” I screamed.

I turned around, pushed Dash to the ground, kick her in the chest as hard as I could, ran to a nearby window, opened it and ran away as fast as my hooves would let me. I ran until I got tired and slowed to a stop, breathing heavily. I couldn't help but reflect on what had happened earlier. It wasn't like me to hurt anypony at all, and yet I did. I bucked Rainbow Dash in the chest, and knowing Dash, she'd hate me for the rest of my life for it.

"Great, way to blow it Fluttershy." I said to myself.

"What did you mess up?" a deep voice asked.

I turned around to the source of the voice, a large red dragon.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" I screamed, and to my surprise, the dragon screamed too.

"Wait, what are you screaming about?" I asked when he had finished.

The dragon looked down at me. Then I realized it was the same dragon what went to sleep in the cave in the mountains. His snoring was producing smoke that endangered Equestria.

"Your screaming scared me." he said.

"Oh I'm sorry about that. It's just that dragons still scare me, even after the last time we met." I explained.

"Really? You stood up to a dragon and they still scare you? That doesn't make much sense. Usually when you face your fears, they don't bother you anymore, or at least not as much as they use to." the dragon said.

"No not me, I was afraid of dragons then and I still am now. My friends wanted me to go to the dragon migration, but I refused."

Now the dragon looked surprised. "Why, we dragons only migrate one every 1000 years, no pony of this generation will ever live to see another."

"I'm just afraid the dragons might hurt me." I confessed.

Too my surprise. the dragon started laughing. "We'll be to busy migrating to stop and hurt anyone."

"Really, no dragon would use their fire-breath against a pony?" I asked.

"Just as long you're not rude to any of them, they wouldn't bother you. If you are rude to a dragon, you'll get burned." he replied.

I considered what he had said. From what he told me, it seems the migration would be safe enough to watch. Besides, Dashie did say I owed her. Oh no, Rainbow Dash's word repeated themselves in my mind.

"Look Fluttershy, I watched that boring butterfly migration with you, so now it’s you turn to watch the dragon migration with me, you owe me."

I realized how unfair I had been to Dash. If Rainbow Dash thought the butterfly migration was boring, why did she come? Because she loved me enough as a friend to put up with it, that or because she didn't want to be rude when I invited her, and there I was letting my fear get in the way of my better judgement, which lead me to make a selfish choice. I was disgusted with myself.

"Is something wrong?" the dragon asked.

Might as well.

"I physically hurt somepony close to me over this migration. She wanted to go with her, but was to afraid of the though of dragons to go." I replied.

"Well, are you afraid of me now?" he asked.

I considered this. Now that her mentioned it, I wasn't afraid of him. In fact,I was talking to him like I would to any of my friends.

"No, I'm not."

"Then you have no excuse not to go, don't you?"

"Okay your right there, but why are you here and not with the others?" I asked, trying to change the subject.

"The other dragons are at a rest stop some miles back. They sent me ahead to scout the area for any danger. There was none, so I was about to return to the flock when I heard you." the dragon replied.

"Oh, well then you go ahead." I said.

"Okay, say I never did get your name." he replied.

"Fluttershy." I responded.

"Basil, nice seeing you again Fluttershy. Make sure you dig a pit to watch the migration from, goodbye." he said as he took off to rejoin the other dragons.

You have to watch from a pit? If I knew that, I would of went with my friends.

"Wait Basil, can you help me with that really quick?" I asked.

"Sure." Basil replied.

So we got to work. I'm sorry to say I couldn't help as much as I wanted to, mainly because Basil did most, if not all the work. Still, it didn't take long since Basil had big claws that could scoop up alot of dirt with them.

Once the pit was finished, I thanked Basil and jumped in and watched him fly away. I didn't have to wait long to see the dragons fly overhead. Twilight was right, it was kind of fun to watch them go by. It was certainly a majestic sight, I was even surprised when I noticed I didn't get scared at the sight of them. I'm actually glad I didn't miss it. But it would have been so much better with my friends beside me.

Alas, I had seen to that not happening. I was ashamed of my behavior at the time. In my fear, I failed to remember my friends wouldn't take me to anything dangerous unless it was absolutely necessary, like "we have to save Equestria" necessary, and that they saw me stand up to a dragon. What's even worse, I delivered physical harm to Rainbow Dash in a blind rage. But worst of all, I wasn't fair to her.

I remember when I invited her to see the butterfly migration with me, she wasn't to thrilled. She didn't say it, but it was pretty obvious. Yet despite that, she went with me, out of friendship, or at least she was being polite. Dash was right, I owed her, and what did I do? Let fear and rage take me over, thus cause me to be unbelievably selfish.

I went home by myself, feeling very lonely. When I got home, I decided it was at least on order to apologize, but knowing Rainbow, it would be a while before she forgives anypony, even if it was me, so I guess it would be best to give her some space before I see her again.

Later that day, I found myself at her door. Pulling up all the courage I could muster, I raise a hoof and knocked on her door. When there was no answer I turn to go, only to be stopped by a "Fluttershy?"

I turned around to Rainbow Dash at the door.

"Rainbow Dash, I'm sorry I kicked you in the chest, that wasn't very nice of me." I said sadly.

To my surprise, Dash laughed.

"It's okay, Flutters. You can stand up for yourself, and I like the way you use force to do so." Rainbow Dash replied.

I blushed.

"Besides, I'm sorry for trying to forcing you to go." she continued.

"Well, you were right, I do owe you." I pointed out.

"Nah, don't worry about it, that kick to the chest was enough to cover it." the rainbow haired pegasus replied.

I flew forward and hugged her. Rainbow hugged back.

"You know, I did see the dragon migration, after all." I said when we finished.

"Really? How?" Dash asked confused.

"I'll tell you inside." I replied with a smile.

We went in so I could tell Rainbow Dash the tale. No doubt she'd also have a story to tell me when I've finished.

Author's Notes:

FlutterDash forever!

Now that that's out of the way, this story was original 3 chapters about Fluttershy worrying that Rainbow Dash would break up with her because their relationship hit a rough patch because of the famed buck to the chest, and Fluttershy's doubt in herself during the event's of Hurrincane Fluttershy didn't help until the night before the twister. However, being the more experience writer I am, I decided against it because the story just ended up replaying events from Hurricane Fluttershy, with some extra thoughts from the characters and I realized was in no position to write about the problems in that kind of relationship because I never was in one, (my choice, not because I can't).

That said, I decided just to write about what happened to Fluttershy after she ran off, her, because I felt she shouldn't have missed out on the dragon migration, despite her fear.
