The blade sliced through the air with uncountered precision, digging deep into the straw dummy and refusing to budge out. The black Alicorn snorted, narrowing her purple eyes at the challenge. She grabbed the handle and jerked her head back, hard, and the sword slid back out, the kinetics sending her reeling against the far wall.

A second pony entered, a Alicorn like her, but with purple-blue fur. His wings changed to a orange-y colour, and they dropped slightly when he saw his comerade pushed upside-down against the wall. He snorted, but trotted over, helping her get up.

She shook dust out of her red-pink wings and looked at the wall she had just careened into. As always, the sword had gotten stuck through. She went to grab it again, but the colt got there first, removing it easily with no recoil. As the mare returned to her attacks, a loud creaking sound enveloped the small room.

Both turned, seeing a network of cracks emenating from the initial puncture. The stallion started pushing the mare to the other side of the room, reaching safety as their teachers entered.

They were all Alicorns, which were not rare in these parts. The first, a pale blue stallion with purple wings, set up a blockade of magicked ice, bracing himself. The next, a yellow stallion, send stood in front, electricity sparking from his horn as he opened his blue-black wings in defence. Another stallion, this one with a shaggy green coat and brown wings, began firing pulses at the wall, small rocks pinging the falling chunks away.

The last cantered in behind the two students. He was much larger than the rest, at least four hands, and it was no problem for him to grab the pair in his teeth and boh out the door, slowing only to set torches alight on the way past.

"Ignitus!" A voice called, and one of the others jogged up.

"Cyril, what is it? Have the tremors stopped?" The largest Alicorn questioned, setting the two down on the cold stone.

"Yes, yes, quick, come! It's... I don't even know!"

The four Alicorns trotted back, emerging amid mild ruin and devastation to see a large chunk of the wall missing. The other two teachers were staring in, a flickering light emenating from inside casting their expressions in pastel colours.

"Terrador, Volteer, step back." Ignitus boomed. "Let me see."

The shaggy green glared. "I don't think it's meant for you. It's meant for Spyro."

The young purple Alicorn lit up at mention of his name. "Is there something for Cynder too?"

"Yes, come here, and see for yourselves! It wonderfully marvelous!" The yellow chattered. "Look!"

Both of the young Alicorns cantered up, looking inside the hidden room with undisguised excitement. The mare glanced around the stallions' rounded rump, trying to see in the small room.

Something shot out, quickly latching around their necks and sending them flying across the room with unparralled momentum. Once they regained their breath, they sat up, looking at the curious things that had snapped tight around their necks.

Bands, one golden and one silver, studden with gems.

On Spyro, the golden band, were gems of red, green, yellow, and blue.

On Cynder, the silver band, were gems of scarlet, white, sickly green and black.

Both Alicorns looked up at their teachers.

Ignitus glanced between the others. They nodded.

Dropping to his knees, the great red Alicorn sighed. "Spyro, Cynder, I was afriad I would have to tell you this. There is, in a nearby realm, a powerful Alicorn stallion."

"What does that have to do with us?" Spyro asked, his purple eyes wide in confusion. Cynder's silent expression was the same.

Ignitus sighed again. "There is a propehcy that the only a purple Alicorn can destroy another purple Alicorn. Special magic they both have. You, Cynder, have this same magic; although you may not remember it, you were once under this stallions' control. Those bands will allow you to use your magic to its' full extent.

"Spyro, those colours represent the four main elements: fire, earth, electricity and ice. Cynder, due to your time under his corruption, you have the powers of fear, wind, poison and darkness."

The teacher stood up, walking over to the wide balcony door, pushing it aside with his magic and stepping outside. The two Alicorns followed. Pointing a hoof at the horizon, he looked down at Spyro and Cynder. "He lives there. You are young, and it will be exhausting, but I believe you can do it. We've been training you for this your entire lives."

The other teachers walked out on the wide platform, watching the younger warriors.

"Go." Cyril whispered. "We will always be there when you need us."

As the two Alicorns spread their wings and glided away, Ignitus stood with his front hooves on the railing. "May the guardians look after you!" He yelled into the rising wind. "And may they guide you home!"
