Chapter 1

Chapter 1

“Don’t worry, I’ll be back soon!” The sun shone down on the somewhat small town of Ponyville, and at the moment the small orange pegasus known as Scootaloo was leaving her house to hang out with her friends.

A light green pegasus mare waved from the doorway as Scootaloo began riding away on her scooter. “Please don’t come back covered in tree sap!” She shook her head and started walking into the house with a small smile. “Nevermind....”

Scootaloo buzzed down the street weaving past different ponies, and slowing down occasionally to prevent a very nasty collision from happening. As she went along the road and neared the edge of town she saw a flash of purple coming from one of the abandoned buildings. Screeching to a stop she dismounted the scooter before trotting over to the old doorway.

It was one of the oldest houses in Ponyville, and it had fallen into disrepair over the years. Mold and moss were growing in the now rotting floorboards, water from the last scheduled rain dripped down out of sight, and parts of the ceiling had fallen over from structural weakness. Scootaloo made her way around a couple spiked up planks of wood, her eyes looking around for the source of the light. “H-hello? Anypony here?”

A weak sound unlike that of a drop of water echoing throughout a cave answered her. She jumped a little and trotted into the main room of the house, and lurched back a little when she saw what was there.

A small creature was laying in a circle of burnt wood that looked like it had been moved there. It seemed to be made of wax and had a flickering purple flame on the top of it’s head. A small yellow eye looked over her before it broke out into a grin. It hopped towards her before falling on it’s side releasing a cry as the flame flickered more.

Scootaloo released a sound that was definitely not a daww, and noticed it wasn’t getting up. She moved forward and saw that it was only a couple feet smaller than her. It had a pained look on it’s face. “Don’t worry little guy. I’ll get you to somepony who can help.” Carefully moving her hooves she placed a hoof under it, and picked it up. “Oh geez you’re heavy.” Placing it on her back she made her way outside stopping to place the creature in the attached wagon before making her way down the road.

As she traveled down the path through the forest the creature in the wagon stirred a little, and it’s small flame got a little brighter. It opened it’s eye and stared at Scootaloo before closing it again and drifting off into sleep. The whole time it’s flame began to grow.

On the outskirts of the Everfree Forest a yellow pegasus looked over the small creature. It was currently on a wooden table.“I don’t know what to tell you Scootaloo. I’ve never seen anything like it before.”

Scootaloo looked at the sleeping creature, “Is it okay Fluttershy?”

Fluttershy nodded, “Oh yes. It looks fine to me, and I think it just needed some rest.”

The creature shifted and opened it’s visible eye before hopping up. It turned to Scootaloo and started hopping in joy. “Lit! Litwick!”

Fluttershy lurched back a bit and looked at the creature in amazement. “Did... Did you just talk?”

It turned to her and nodded, “Lit!” It hopped over to Scootaloo and hugged her.

Fluttershy smiled a bit before looking at Scootaloo. “I think he likes you.”

Scootaloo made a small gagging noise, “Please no sappy stuff.”

“Lit!” It hopped back and looked at her with a small smile.

Scootaloo looked at it, “Huh...” she looked at Fluttershy. “Can I keep him?”

“I would ask your mom that, not me.” Fluttershy trotted over to a mouse, “Now Mr. Mouse I told you; don’t keep moving like that.”

Scootaloo looked at the creature. “You have a name?”

It blinked, and tilted its head. “Litwick?”

“I’ll take that as a no.” She put a hoof to her chin. “I think I’ll call you.... Wick.”

It smiled and nodded. “Litwick!”

She shook her head and placed it on her back, “Come on Wick. I gotta go and ask my mom if I can keep you.”

“Lit.”

They made their way out of the door before getting in the scooter. Climbing it the wagon Wick smiled and hopped a bit. “Litwick!” They took off down the road passing various ponies along the way. They all looked over as the duo retreated into the distance before turning to each other and asking the same question. “What was that?”

After a few minutes they slowed down, and skid to a stop in front of a small white house. Scootaloo climbed out followed by Wick. “Stay close to me.” It nodded, and they walked up to the front door before Scootaloo pushed it open. They walked into a small living room with various paintings on the walls. “Mom! I’m home!”

The light green pegasus mare walked into the room, “You’re back early, did something happen?”

Scootaloo nodded. “Yeah. I found a wounded animal and I brought it to Fluttershy. She said it’s fine, and now it’s... It’s kinda attached to me.”

Wick waved a short little arm, “Litwick!”

The mare took a step back, “W-what is that thing? Is it a candle!?”

“Um... I think? I don’t really know, but I kinda saved it’s life. I came to ask if... Well... Can I keep him?”

The mare blinked, “You really want to keep it as a pet?”

Scootaloo nodded, “It’s really smart, and I’m sure I can handle him.”

The mare walked up and looked Wick over. Lifting a hoof to poke him a couple times. After a while she stepped in front of Scootaloo and nodded, “Alright, but you have to take complete care of it. And I don’t want it bothering me, kapeesh?”

Scootaloo beamed and wrapped the mare in a hug, “Thanks mom! You’re the best!” She grabbed Wick with her hoof before dragging him off to her room. “Come on I wanna show you where you can sleep!”

“Litwick!”
