Chapter 1 - Arrival
My name is Daniel Fischer. I am 20 years old, and my life was pretty good. My life schedule was just go to work as a programmer, come home, play video games, watch television, and sleep. Occasionally I would go out with some friends, but every other day I stuck to my normal schedule. My friends and family would say My life is boring and I should do more with it, but I wasn't complaining.
I didn't mind the direction my life was going, and I wasn't doing anything to change it. But so many people worried about me and I just ignored their warning.
One thing I recently discovered was something I never thought would change my life. It was a tv show on The Hub called My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I wasn't a brony yet, but I liked what I had seen so far, which only included the first few episodes. When I say it changed my life, I meant it literally. Little did I know, my life was going to get a lot more interesting.
One night, I was sitting down at my computer playing some video games when it happened. I was just about to take a break, when I was interrupted by a huge flash of light, blinding me. I closed my eyes, but that didn't help at all. This went on for several minutes before I could tell I wasn't in my computer chair anymore, or even my house. I felt my entire body being transported.
My arms and legs were shorter, and I couldn't feel my hands or feet anymore. I felt a horn growing out of my forehead, and a tail growing out of my flank. My face also grew longer, about the length. of a horse. This whole time I had my eyes closed to keep out the blinding light, so I couldn't see this transformation. My body felt like it stopped transforming after a few minutes.
With this transformation over I started to hear a voice talking. It wasn't talking to me, but to someone else. "Fluttershy, you weren't supposed to use your element yet! You need to wait!" The voice scolded.
"Ha! You may have five of the elements, but you need all six to do anything." Another voice said. The blinding light started to fade away and after a few seconds, I knew for sure that I wasn't in my house anymore.
I was in a big dark room. The room looked very ancient and mostly abandoned. pillars covered in moss lined the sides of the room, and the moss was spread all over the floor and walls as well. Moon light shone through the windows and through the dim light I could see something that really surprised me. I saw six multi-colored ponies and two larger ponies.
I identified the two large ponies as Nightmare Moon and Princess Celestia. The six smaller ponies were Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Pinkie Pie. It was Twilight who was scolding Fluttershy about using her element too early. The room I was in was the room where main six discover the elements of harmony. Nopony noticed me in the room while I observed and Identified everything, since I was behind Nightmare Moon. The main six and Celestia were standing tall and resolute against Nightmare Moon, except for Fluttershy, who was cowering behind Twilight.
My first reaction would have been to scream, but I was too scared and shocked to do anything. I just watched the scene play out, although it was slightly different than what I saw in the show.
When I looked down I saw that I had not only been taken to Equestria, but I had transformed into a unicorn pony. My fur was dark blue and my mane and tail were a dark yellow. My mane only went down to my neck, and my tail only went down to my knees. Looking behind me, I also noticed that I didn't have a cuitie mark I wasn't very fit as a human, and that was reflected in my appearance, as I was a bit fatter than the average stallion.
It was after making this discovery that I actually screamed, causing everypony to jump and turn towards me. I tightly closed my eyes and laid down when I felt something coming out of my horn. It was electricity, flowing through my horn, and flying out of my horn straight towards Nightmare Moon, zapping her.
Nightmare Moon didn't get a chance to turn around and see me zap her, so she was more surprised than anypony. She just stood there, unable to move from both surprise, and mild paralysis.
Twilight gasped, "Magic!" said Twilight said excitedly. "The sixth element is magic!" Her horn started to glow, and the element stone in front of her opened, revealing a tiara with a six-sided star which floated down onto Twilight's head. Her eyes started to glow white, along with the other five. A rainbow formed around the six and shot towards Nightmare Moon.
Her eyes widened in fear. "No! It can't be!" That was all she said before the rainbow beam hit her. The blast created a bright flash of white light which lit up the entire room. The light reminded me of when I was teleported here. The main six's eyes stopped glowing and they were back to normal. Princess Luna laid on the ground.
Princess Celestia approached her cautiously. "Luna," she said, "is that you?"
Princess Luna immediately stood up and hugged her. "Celestia, I've missed you so much," she cried. Tears were streaming down her face as she said this.
"I've missed you too," Celestia replied. She was crying now too. Pinkie Pie sniffled, and soon she was crying her eyes out. "Now that you're a princess again, Luna, there's something else we need to figure out." she said, wiping tears from her face. She looked at me. "Who are you? And why are you here?"
I panic more than I ever have before. "Please don't hurt me!" I started cowering, not knowing what she was going to do about me. Some electricity was still radiating from my horn. "My name is Daniel, and I don't know why I'm here. I was sitting at home when I was transformed into a pony and teleported here. I didn't mean to hurt your sister, please don't hurt me or throw me in a dungeon."
"Why would we do that?" said Twilight. "It was because of you that we were able to use the elements of harmony. If anything, we would like to thank you." She started approaching me, along with the other princesses and ponies. I fearfully back away.
"Oh, you poor pony." Fluttershy flew to me and got me to stand up. "You don't have to be scared." She hugged me to show that everything is okay, and it actually helped quite a bit. "We won't hurt you."
"Thank you." I say.
"Hey! How can we trust him? He could be a spy!" said Rainbow Dash. "I don't trust him."
"Rainbow, first me, and now this pony. Stop making those assumptions about everypony." Twilight turned to me. "If you were transformed into a pony, then what were you before you came here?"
"Before I came here, I was a human," I replied.
"Liar! You're just a Spy!" shouted Rainbow, pointing an accusing hoof in my direction.
"Rainbow!" Twilight scolded. "If he's lying, then how do you explain his lack of a cutie mark? She pointed to my flank. "I've done research on humans before, but I don't much about them."
"A human? I thought they were mythical creatures, along with the place they're from," said Celestia. "I guess it makes sense, humans are just an evolved form of monkeys."
"Shall we get going, Celestia?" said Luna, "We don't have all day."
"That's right. Twilight Sparkle, as interesting as this discovery is, I'm afraid we have royal duties to get to back to in Canterlot. I would like for you to learn more about the current situation and report to me your findings."
"In Canterlot?" asked Twilight.
"No Twilight, after seeing you with your friends, I've decided to make you a permanent resident in Ponyville."
"Really?" Twilight gasps.
"On one condition, you also report your findings to me on friendship every week. I Couldn't take you away from such good friends like this. I believe friendship will teach you some very valuable lessons."
"Yes! Of course!" Twilight jumped circles around the entire group excitedly. "Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes!"
"That means our new best friends will always be with us!" said Pinkie. Twilight's friends all pulled her in for a group hug, all of them laughing and shouting excitedly. "This calls for a party! For both Twilight and Daniel!"
"Goodbye everypony, and thank you." said Celestia.
"Thank you all." said Luna. The two princesses uses a teleportation spell and with that, they were gone.
"Can somepony explain something to me?" I say, causing the ponies to remember that I was here and turn to face me. "Firstly, how did I even get here? Secondly, what was that thing I did?" I had no idea how I was able to use magic like that, and I wasn't sure if I could do it again.
"Allow me to explain everything, but first, we need to tell you our names. I'm Twilight Sparkle."
"I'm Rarity."
"Ah'm Applejack."
"I'm Rainbow Dash."
"I'm Pinkie Pie, but you can just call me Pinkie, all my friends do, and that's everypony."
"Um... I'm Fluttershy."
I already knew all of their names, but I decided to pretend I've never seen them before. I knew of fanfics about the main six going on Earth and finding out about their tv show. I wasn't sure how they would react to this news, and most of the time they don't take it very well. I also didn't want Rainbow thinking I'm a spy any more than she already does, so I figured it would be best to not say anything about it.
"It's nice to meet you all."
"The two ponies you saw earlier were Princess Celestia and Luna. They rule Equestria together. I'll talk about that more later," said Twilight. "I'm not actually sure what to do with you. The princess didn't give me much to work with." She walks a few circles around me, observing me. "You look like a fully grown stallion in every way. I wouldn't have believed you if you had a cutie mark."
"Yawn," said Rainbow Dash. "Can't you explain this stuff when I'm not around? You're boring me."
"Come on, let's go home now, I need to throw parties for Daniel, Luna, and Twilight, let's go." Pinkie Pie bounced towards the exit.
"Yes, I need my beauty sleep, and standing around talking isn't helping." said Rarity. Everypony except for Twilight headed for the exit.
"Girls! I'm not finished!" Twilight gave an annoyed sigh when she realized everypony was gone. "Fine! We can talk about this later." She caught up with the group before we could get any further.
"Great, so where will I stay?" I ask. "It's getting late, and I'll need a place to rest.
"He ain't stayin with me." said Applejack coldly.
"Even if I trusted you, you're not a pegasus. You'd go right through my house." muttered Rainbow Dash.
"Um... you can stay with me, if that's okay with you." Fluttershy mumbled.
"Really? I wouldn't want to be a bother."
"It's fine. I take animals into my house all the time."
"I guess I'll stay with Fluttershy then."
______________________________________________________________________
When we got back to Ponyville, each of us went our separate ways. I agreed to see Twilight in the morning so she could tell me more about Ponyville and Equestria, and answer any questions I had. Rarity told me to come to her boutique so she could get my measurements incase I ever wanted an outfit from her. Rainbow Dash and Applejack just ignored my goodbye and walked away. Pinkie Pie told me she was going to start preparations for a welcome party, and Fluttershy led me to her cottage on the outskirts of Ponyville.
"Right this way. It's that house there," said Fluttershy. The cottage was small and surrounded by trees, with two windows on the front. She approached the door, opened it, and motioned me in. "Sometimes I take care of a few animals here in the house. The guest bedroom is upstairs, which is where you can sleep."
I step inside and suddenly, a rabbit jumps to me and starts scratches my leg repeatedly. "Hey there, little rabbit," I say. The scratching didn't really hurt at all, so I just ignore it. "What's his name, Fluttershy?" I pick him up with my magic to stop him from actually hurting my leg.
She takes the rabbit out of my magical grip. "His name is Angel, he's my pet." She carries him to his bed, scolding him on the way there. Angel glares at me before hopping into his bed and going to sleep.
"Thanks again for letting me stay, Fluttershy."
"It's no problem, really."
While Fluttershy was busy putting Angel to bed, I trudged up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. I was through quite a bit today, I didn't realize how exhausted I actually was until I got into the guest room. I climbed into bed and get comfortable under the blankets when some very worrying thoughts entered my mind.
What am I going to do? What if I can't get home? I can't be thinking like that, I need to be optimistic. I will get home. Tomorrow, I'm gonna go to Twilight's house and learn more about this place. That'll be great, learning everything I already know about this place. I have to do everything I can to make sure they don't find out the truth. At least I'll find out how I was able to use such powerful magic. I think I'll also talk to Rainbow Dash and Applejack and find out why they don't trust me. I'll do all that tomorrow, but for now, I need some sleep.
Those were my last thoughts before I slowly drifted to sleep.
Chapter 2 - Stuck in Ponyville
I woke up at about 9:30 and climbed out of bed reluctantly. Today I was planning to try and earn everyponys trust. So far, they all trusted me except for Rainbow Dash and Applejack, and I intended to find out why.
The first thing I do is go into the bathroom and wash up. I used the bathroom and washed my hooves when I looked into the mirror. I had forgotten that I didn't get a chance to see my face yet.
My horn was slightly longer than average, and had a sharp point. My snout stuck out and was flat, just like any other stallion. I also saw that my eyes were amber colored, the same color as my mane. I tried using my magic to levitate a bar of soap so I could see what color my magic aura was, which was black, unlike any unicorn I've ever seen before.
I trudged down stairs to see that nopony was home and that the only animal in the house was Angel, who was eating a small salad. He glared at me for a few seconds before returning to his salad.
In the kitchen there was a plate on the table with toast, eggs, and some pancakes on it, along with some silverware and a note. I picked it up and read it.
Daniel,
I made you breakfast and went to take care of some animals in the Everfree Forest. Just make yourself at home. Don't worry, it's no trouble for me. If you need me, just follow the nearby path to the forest. I'll be back soon,
Fluttershy.
After I ate breakfast, which was very delicious, I found a quill and paper and wrote another note. Writing with magic was pretty difficult to get used to, and so was writing with a quill. Before leaving I reread my note, which was surprisingly legible.
Fluttershy,
thank you very much for your kindness and hospitality. I am going to Ponyville to earn everypony's trust. I don't think Rainbow Dash and Applejack like me very much, and I'm going to find out why. I will be back soon,
Daniel. P.S., you're a very good cook, breakfast was delicious. Thank you.
I stepped out the front door and attached the note to the door. I headed into Ponyville and was stopped shortly by Pinkie Pie. She ran in front of me with a wagon behind her. "Omigosh!" She says quickly. "Daniel, I have to welcome you to Ponyville. I'm giving you my super special welcome with my super special welcome machine!"" She didn't wait for a response and pressed a button on the machine.
It opened up, revealing several horns and multicolored cannons. The horns started to play party music. She started singing while bouncing around the wagon. "Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! Welcome!" She jumped up and landed on her back legs. The music stopped, and confetti came out of a cannon that looked like an oven, while yellow cake batter came out of another cannon. The batter completely covered her. "Oops, I must have put the cake in the cannon and the confetti in the oven!" She started laughing. "I do that all the time!"
I joined her in laughing. "Pinkie Pie, you are so random!"
"I know right?" Pinkie licks all the batter off of her in one huge lick. "Rainbow Dash likes to say that too. She also says I talk too much. You don't think I talk to much do you? Everypony likes me, but they think I talk too much and they think it's annoying. Do you think I'm annoying? I never want to annoy anypony, I just want to make everypony happy. I-"
I hold my hoof up to stop her. "Pinkie, you don't talk too much. You just talk too fast. Honestly, I could listen to you talk all day if I could understand you. Slow down a bit." I change the subject to find out about Rainbow Dash. "I'd like to keep talking with you, but I'm looking for Rainbow Dash. Do you know where she is?"
"Yeah, she's in-" She stops when she realizes she's talking too quickly and slows down. "I mean, she's in that cloud over there." She points a hoof to a specific cloud, about 10 meters off the ground. "Now that I've welcomed you, I need to plan you and Twilight's party."
"That seems a little cliché, but okay."
"What does that mean?"
"You wouldn't understand."
"Oh, okay, bye!" She dashes off to Sugarcube corner.
I approach the cloud and sure enough, Rainbow was sitting on the cloud, taking a nap. She was laying on her back using part of the cloud as a pillow. I walk directly under the cloud. "Hey, Rainbow Dash!" I shout to her. She wasn't actually sleeping, like I thought she was, but she was trying to.
"Huh?" She sat up and looked around before looking down to me. Her look of surprise turned to a glare. "Oh, it's you." Rainbow Dash flew off the cloud and lowered herself down to me. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to say hi and maybe talk. So how are you today?"
"I know what you're planning. My friends trust you, so they won't defend themselves when you attack. But that doesn't mean I won't." She flies back up and continues napping on a cloud much higher than the first one.
That went well, I think to myself. I guess Applejack's next. Isn't her farm on the edge of town? I don't remember. I better get looking.
______________________________________________________________________
I was finally able to find Sweet Apple Acres after about 20 minutes of aimless wondering. Applejack's farm looked much larger than it did in the show. Apple trees, and various types of crops went further than I could see. Going down the long path I could see the barn, along with the house Applejack and her family live in.
I approached the farm house, expecting Applejack to greet me the same way as Rainbow Dash. The house was next to the barn, and beyond that were more apple trees.
When I got to the front door I raised my hoof and knocked few times. A few seconds pass and a little yellow filly with a red bow in her red mane opens the door.
"Hello?" She said "Who are you?"
"Hello little filly, my name is Daniel. What's your name?"
"Mah name is Applebloom." She holds out her hoof, "nice to meet ya." When I grab her hoof she shakes it vigorously like Applejack would.
"Applebloom, I'm here to Applejack. Is she here?"
"Jus a sec." She turns around, "Applejack! Somepony's here to see ya!" She turns back to me, "come in." She closes the door behind me runs off.
I enter the living room and before I sit on the couch, I realize that I haven't sit on any chairs or couches since I came to Equestria. I had no idea how to sit, but I didn't want talk to Applejack while standing, so I tried to learn. I started by standing on top of the couch, then lowering my body onto the seat. When that didn't work, I tried folding my legs under my body one by one, which caused me to fall.
"What are you doing?" Applejack says as she entered the room. She didn't seem very happy about my visit.
"I just came by to visit. Applebloom invited me in. I just wanted to talk."
"Here's how you sit on a couch." She put her front hooves on the couch and folded her legs first, then she did the same with her back hooves. When I copied it I was still a little uncomfortable, but I knew I would get used to it.
"Thank you."
"Yer welcome." After that we sat together in awkward silence for about ten minutes before I spoke up.
"So how are you?"
"Fine."
"Your sister seems nice."
"Thank ya." It seemed that Applejacks expression was souring, like everything I said annoyed her.
More awkward silence. I don't know how Applejack could stand being quiet for so long. I can't stand awkward silence.
"The main reason I came here was to earn your trust."
"Then ah think you should leave," She says, pointing a hoof at the door.
"I just want everypony's trust."
"Ah've got nothin more to say to ya."
"Please, just hear me out."
"Leave now." She pointed towards the exit again. She was now noticeably angry with me for a reason I didn't know.
"But I-"
"Get outta here!" She says harshly.
"Why are you acting so-"
"NOW!" She slams her front hoof into the floor, making a loud bang.
"Fine!" I get up and storm through the house and out the door with a dejected look on my face. Her yelling upset me a bit, mainly because of how angry she was from just seeing me. I was walking down the path leading out of Sweet Apple Acres when I was stopped again by Applejack.
"Wait!" She shouts. I turn around and see that she was standing at the doorway, now upset instead of angry. "come back over here." I walk back to the house.
"Ah'm sorry. Ah'm just upset right now. You came by while ah was in a bad mood." Tears began to well up in her eyes, a look of guilt was now on her face. Ah'm so sorry ah yelled at you." She starts to cry. "Ah heard you were a human and ah just assumed you were tha same as all the others. Ah'm also sorry I ever doubted you."
I wrap a comforting hoof around her shoulder. "It's okay, I forgive you. What do you mean by 'the others'?
"It's nuthin against you, but ah don't wanna talk about it." She looked away. "Please excuse me." She ran off up the stairs to her room.
What was that all about? Whaat was she talking about? Does she have a problem with humans? I thought they were mythological here in Equestria, and I don't remember seeing anything about Applejack hating humans in the show.
I could have just stayed in Applejacks house and wait for her to come out, but I needed to see Rarity as well as Twilight, so I left the house. I would have helped myself to a few apples, but I didn't want to risk getting on the Apple family's bad side.
I figured I'd go see Rarity first, since she probably wanted to make an outfit for me.
______________________________________________________________________
I was more easily able to find the shop after asking for directions instead of just wondering. Rarity's boutique was now in sight with various multicolored ribbons and other accessories decorating it. I approached the door and tapped my hoof on the door a few times.
"Come on in, darling!" I heard from the inside. I opened the door and stepped inside. Rarity was sitting at a table sipping tea.
"Hello darling, I've been expecting you." Rarity levitated a second cup on the table. "Would you like some tea?"
"No thank you, I don't like tea."
"Well okay then." She sets down her cup and stands up. "As you may know, I have some things I want to do with you. Go wait in my workroom and I'll get right to you."
I walk in to her workroom to see a white filly with a purple, curly mane pushing herself around the room with her back legs.
"Ugh, I am sooooo booooored," the filly says before she notices me. "Oh, hello. My name is Sweetie Belle, what's yours? I've never seen you in Ponyville before."
"My name is Daniel. I was just waiting for Rarity. Wow, you are just adorable, how old are you?"
"Um, thanks. I'm eight years old." She started to look uncomfortable around me. I don't think it's appropriate to call foals "adorable" like on my world.
"I'm sorry if I weirded you out."
"That's okay, I guess. So are you a friend of Rarity?"
"I think so." I wasn't actually sure if Rarity considered me a friend yet. We haven't actually had a chance to talk with each other. Rarity had just entered the room with some measuring tape when I started to think about it.
"Sweetie Belle, why don't you go outside or something." Rarity pointed to the door. "I have a client to work with."
"Fine, I'll just go play outside." Sweetie Belle then ran out the door and out of the boutique. Rarity begun by measuring my body and writing some notes down.
"Rarity, do you consider me a friend?" I ask while she measures my legs.
"Why do you ask, darling?"
"Sweetie Belle was just asking me, and I wasn't sure what to tell her. We haven't really spent much time together, so I just assumed we weren't.
"Of course we are. Everypony else seems to like you, and a friend to everypony else is a friend to me."
"Not Rainbow Dash and Applejack."
"Rainbow Dash is like that to everypony that's new, especially the ones that claim to be from another world. Applejack is just like that because of an incident she had with her parents when she was a foal. She'll tell you everything when she's ready. Don't worry, they'll both come around." As she said this, Rarity was able to finish writing her notes. "I'm finished darling. How about I make you an outfit?"
"That won't be necessary."
"Nonsense! You don't have any clothes yet, I need to get you some right away. You've got to have at least a suit for formal events."
"Thank you then."
"You're very welcome, now you should get going so I can prepare you're outfit." She started pushing me through the door and out if the boutique, closing the door after pushing me out.
______________________________________________________________________
Using the same process as before, I found Twilight's library fairly easily. It was just a hollowed out tree with windows and a door. I was happy I was going to get some answers about how I Got here.
Just like with the other places I visited, I approached the door and knocked a few times.
The door became surrounded with a purple aura and it swung open to reveal Twilight standing there. "Hello Daniel. Come on in." She smiled, "I can't wait to tell you everything and maybe even get some information from you." She sits down in a chair next to a scroll and quill. I sit next to her. "We already have most of the information we want to know about humans, so you won't have to tell me much, other than a few questions about various things, like human anatomy."
"You're not dissecting me if that's what you mean." I laugh at my joke while Twilight just looks at me like I'm stupid.
"You're not even a human. Anyway, let's talk about last night. What you did was an amazing feat of magic for somepony so inexperienced, although there is a reason you were able to do what you did. When a unicorn is under an extreme amount of emotion, such as stress, anger, or fear, their horn will give off various types of magic involuntarily. What you did would be normal for anypony, but you gave off magic much more powerful than the average unicorn would. I wouldn't be surprised if your special talent involved magic."
"Why would I stay here long enough to find my special talent? I'm gonna leave as soon as I can."
Twilight looked like she knew something and wasn't telling me. "Well... about that," Twilight was interrupted by the door slamming open and Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, and Rarity entering the library.
"Applejack!" Rarity scolded, "You really should have knocked before entering!"
"This is a library, ah didn't need ta knock," Applejack responded.
"Girls, what are you doing here?" Asked Twilight, surprised at the sudden appearance of her friends in her library.
"We wanted to check on Daniel, and we knew he's be here, so I got everypony to come over and see you," said Pinkie Pie.
"Pinkie wanted us to check on you, so she asked us to come with her," grumbled Rainbow Dash.
"Now's not a good time, I was just about to give Daniel some bad news." replied Twilight.
"Don't worry, we don't mind. Whatever it is, I need to cheer him up with his welcome party!" Pinkie said excitedly.
"Okay then. Daniel, we need to talk."
"What is it?"
"After a bit of studying, I was able to figure out why you're here. I've already reported my findings to Princess Celestia."
"You found the answer already? Only a day has passed."
"Sometimes I have trouble sleeping at night. When I do, I spend all night studying, and that's what I did trying to find an answer. Now about what I found."
"You won't like what she found," said Spike, who was sitting at the top of the stairs. I didn't notice him until he spoke. "You're Daniel, right? I'm Spike."
Twilight continued, "Before I tell you, I'd better explain the elements of harmony to you." She gave a brief explanation of the elements of harmony before continuing. "All six elements need to be present for them to work. If somepony tries to use their element too early, the consequences are difficult to predict. Anything could happen when one or more elements are used early. Instead of banishing the dark energy that infected Luna like it was supposed to do, it did the opposite, and brought you here. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time."
"So why did I turn into a pony?"
"Humans don't exist here in Equestria. The elements of harmony can only teleport creatures that exist."
"Hey, didn't Fluttershy use her element before Twilight could discover hers?" Said Rainbow Dash.
Everypony looked at Fluttershy, who was now looking extremely guilty. She hid her face behind her mane. "I panicked, and then I just did it."
"Anyway, for us, inter-dimensional travel is currently impossible. The elements of harmony are the only things capable of producing magic strong enough to teleport creatures across dimensions."
"So we can use the elements to get me back home?"
"No, if we use them, there's only a small chance you'd be teleported, an smaller chance of you going back your own world, and an even smaller chance of going back as a human. You'd be way more likely to take a great deal of injury, or even die. The princess wouldn't allow you to risk hurting yourself or others." Twilight sighed, not wanting to be the one to give this news.
"What are you saying, Twilight?"
"I'm afraid you can't go home. You're stuck in Equestria permanently."
Those last words took a while to sink in. When it did, I thought that my life was over. I never thought I would miss anything on earth, but here I was, going over everything and everyone I would never see or do ever again in my head. The more I thought of it, the more I knew my life would never be the same again. I would never see anyone in my family or friends, eat certain foods, do things that don't even exist here, or be a human ever again.
When Twilight gave me the news, the other five ponies gasped. Everypony in the room watched me, waiting for me to react.
Some tears started to form around my eyes. I buried my face in my hooves and after a few seconds, I cried softly, while the others all gave me looks of sympathy.
"Oh no." Fluttershy started to cry with me. "It's all my fault! I'm so sorry!" She flew over to me and gave me a hug. I returned the hug, and then we were crying into each others shoulders.
"Fluttershy," I say, looking into her eyes and wiping away her tears, "it's not your fault, you didn't know. I don't blame you."
"No, please don't cry, you two," said Pinkie, "everything's gunna be ok." We continued crying. "How about a party, to cheer you up?" When that didn't work, some tears formed around her eyes. "Please stop crying, I can't stand seeing other ponies cry." Tears were now streaming down her face. "You're going to make me cry." After she said that, Pinkie was now crying as well. She joined in the hug, along with everypony else, except for Rainbow Dash, who disappeared out the door, and Spike, who just continued watching from the top of the stairwell.
After a few seconds, Spike stood up and retched a couple times before belching a scroll onto the step in front of him. We all broke the hug and I wiped some tears from my eyes. "Guys, I think that was the princess," said Spike as he unrolled the scroll and cleared his throat. He read it out loud. "Dear Twilight Sparkle, I am sorry to hear about Daniel, but you are correct. There is nothing I can do to get Daniel home. Since he is going to spend the rest of his life in Equestria, I have decided to do the necessary paperwork to make him an official citizen of Equestria."
"Really?" I sniffle.
"Also, I bought Daniel a house to live in there in Ponyville. The address is listed below. I have included in this scroll, 250 bits to help Daniel start his new life here. I would welcome him personally, but I am terribly busy with my royal duties. I wish him good luck. Sincerely, Princess Celestia." Spike pulled out a brown pouch from the bottom of the scroll and tossed it to me.
"At least I'll have a place to stay," I say, even though all I wanted to do was go home. Since that wasn't an option, I had to accept my new house.
"Everything's gunna be okay! Let's go check it out!" said Pinkie, who was now back to her exited self.
"Okay, let's go." Fluttershy wiped some tears from her eyes. She was the last to stop crying, after me.
______________________________________________________________________
Everypony followed me to the new address, where my new house would be. I wasn't sure where Rainbow Dash was, but I wasn't worried about her at the time. The house wasn't very far from Twilight's library. It was somewhere between the library and sugarcube corner.
It was a two story house, with white walls and windows that were lined with red. There was one window on each side of the house. It looked pretty similar to every other house in Ponyville.
Waiting outside the entrance was an earth pony stallion. He had a light brown coat with a blonde, combed down mane. He was wearing a brown vest with bowling shoes. His cutie mark was a bowling ball and two pins.
He smiled and greeted us when we approached him. "Hello, my name is Jeff Letroski. I assume you're the one the princess bought this house for."
"Yes I am, are you the previous owner? My name is Daniel, by the way." I extended my hoof and Jeff shook it.
"Would you like to know our names?" asked Pinkie.
"I don't have time. I gotta get going."
"Where?" I ask.
"I'm going on a world bowling tour. That's why I sold this house. I'm gonna make lots of money as a professional bowler. I'll buy a house and I can finally get out of Ponyville with the money Princess Celestia gave me."
"Good luck with that."
"Thanks, now if you'll excuse me, I gotta get going. This house is yours. Here's the key." Jeff pulled out the key to the door and handed it to me. "See you around, Daniel."
"Goodbye." I say as Jeff picks up a suitcase with his mouth and walks away, towards the train station.
I slide the key into the lock of my new house, unlock it, and push open the door.
In the living room there were a few couches and a chair. The kitchen was right next to the living room and had the usual stove, fridge, cupboards, and table. There was a set of stairs leading to two bedrooms and a bathroom.
In my bedroom, there was a bed with a nightstand next to it and an empty book shelf was on the other side of the room. The guest bedroom looked about the same except for the color of the sheets.
"Nice place ya got here," says Applejack, looking around the room.
"I don't really care for it, but it fits you," said Rarity.
"We better get going," said Twilight, "Daniel needs a chance to get settled in."
"Okay then, I need to prepare a welcoming party, and a housewarming party." said Pinkie. "Daniel, come to Sugarcube corner at one. I gotta go, bye!" She dashed off out the door. The rest followed shortly.
I went back to my room and threw my pouch of bits onto the nightstand and sat down on the bed. Equestria doesn't have television does it? I'll have to borrow some books from Twilight. My thoughts were interrupted by a loud knock on the door.
I walk down the stairs and to the door. I open to reveal Rainbow Dash standing on my doorstep, looking extremely guilty.
"Hey," she said quietly, "can I come in?"
"Yeah, come in." I motion her in. She walks in and sits on the couch in the living room. I sit next to her. "What do you want?"
"I heard about what happened with you. I just came to say I shouldn't have doubted you, and that I know now that you're not a spy."
"Are you apologizing?"
"I'm terrible at apologizing, although I guess I have to, don't I?"
"It would certainly help."
Rainbow sighed. "I'm sorry. I just don't want anything to happen to my friends, and I would do anything to protect them."
"It's fine, I forgive you."
Rainbow stopped looking guilty and smiled. "Hey, maybe sometime we could hang out and get to know each other."
"I'd like that. Maybe I could do that with all of my new friends here in Ponyville."
"Well, I'd better get going. I'm supposed to be clearing the clouds today." She laughed. "Bye." She flew out the door, barely having time to open it and close it.
I didn't have any books or anything else to do yet, so I started to think. I started thinking about my home again. Everyone on Earth would think that I'm dead. I felt bad for them, especially for my family. Before I knew it, I was crying again at the thought of my family missing me.
______________________________________________________________________
The time now was 12:55 P.M., and I was on my way to Sugarcube corner, expecting a welcome party. It looked like a gingerbread house covered in icing.
I push open the door to be greeted by six ponies shouting, "SURPRISE!" There was a banner with the word "Welcome" spread across the ceiling. Streamers and confetti were scattered all over the room. Only the main six were here, for some reason.
"Hey there!" said Pinkie, "Were you surprised? I hope not, because it wasn't supposed to be a surprise party!"
"Where's everypony else?" I ask.
Pinkie just sighed. "It's just us. I told everypony about the new pony in town, but most ponies didn't seem to care," she said dejectedly. "Most ponies only come to my important parties, because they think I'm obnoxious." She perked up, "That's okay though, because all my best friends are here."
"Pinkie, they don't think your annoying," said Rainbow, "you just throw so many parties that other ponies think it's hard to keep up with them all."
"That's okay too. Now, let's get this party started!" Pinkie turned on some music and started dancing, along with everypony except me. I stood off to the side and drank some punch.
"How are you feeling?" look over and see that Twilight stopped dancing and joined me. She had a concerned look on her face.
"I'm still a little upset, but I'll be fine."
"That's good. I can't even imagine what you must be going through."
"Don't remind me."
Pinkie heard us talking and dragged me to the dance floor without stopping her dance. "Maybe some dancing will cheer you up!"
Before I could object, I was on the floor dancing with Pinkie and everypony else. I didn't know how to dance, so I just resorted to flailing my hooves around. I fell down a couple times, since I was only used to walking as a pony, and dancing as a pony was another thing.
______________________________________________________________________
We danced for quite a while, and afterwards, we played some games together. with the small number of ponies, we were all able to play at the same time. Then we just ate candy and pastries and talked for the rest of the party, which was almost over anyway.
After the party, I spent the rest of the day at Twilights library, learning about Equestria and the ponies that live there. I also answered the few questions she had about me. I was just glad I didn't have to pretend to not know anything about ponies anymore.
I searched through all the books in the library as well. I was mostly reading her spell books and seeing if I could cast any of them. When I couldn't, and Twilight would just tell me that I'd get it right eventually. I also borrowed a few books to take home and read.
I only borrowed four books, as carrying four objects at once was a strain on my magic. When I got to my house, I trudged upstairs and placed each of the books neatly on the shelf in my room. I borrowed the first two books in the Daring Do series, which sounded very similar to Indiana Jones. The next book was a spell book teaching black magic, and the other was a spell book teaching healing magic.
At this point I couldn't even cast the simplest spells from either book, and I could barely hold anything. Twilight had offered to train with me so we could both improve our magic and I accepted. We agreed to meet up the next day at the library to do so.
I flop down on my bed tiredly and get comfortable in my bed. I set the alarm clock on the nightstand to 8:30, the current time, and lay my head on the pillow. I close my eyes and slowly drift off to sleep. I'm going to miss everything on Earth, but since I'm gonna live here for the rest of my life, I may as well enjoy it. I find that kinda difficult to do, but I guess I don't have a choice. I wonder what my cutie mark will be. I look forward to finding out.
Chapter 3 - Settling in - Part 1
"C'mon, Danny, let's go!" Pinkie Pie bounced through the town excitedly with a huge smile on her face. I followed behind her from a small distance. She had offered to give me a tour of Ponyville, and maybe a job, depending on whether or not she can convince the Cakes to hire me. It wasn't a very good tour, as all she did was point to each building and tell me what it is before rushing on. I was at least able to find my way around town.
After the tour, me and Pinkie stopped by the Carousel Boutique to check on my suit, which was complete. Of course, Rarity refused payment from me and said it was a gift. I didn't have to take it home since she offered to keep it in her shop until I needed it. She also made me a saddlebag to wear, which I found quite useful for carrying things and hiding my lack of a cutie mark.
Pinkie also took me to the various markets so I could buy some things for my house. We mostly bought food and brought it all back to my house, although I didn't have to buy much. When Jeff moved out, not only did he leave his furniture, but he also left all of his food.
Ponyville was bigger than I imagined, and we walked through every street. Pinkie was able to bounce the same distance I walked without even breaking a sweat, but my feet were starting to feel sore from walking alone. I hoped that someday I would get used to walking everywhere, like everpony else does.
Now that we've done all of that, Pinkie was taking me to sugarcube corner to get something to eat. I hadn't eaten anything since yesterday's party, so I looked forward to seeing what the Cakes had to offer.
"Omigosh! There it is! Let's go, I'm starving!" Pinkie dashed through the doors of the bakery. Instead of wondering how she can run so quickly, I simply follow her inside.
Entering the Sugarcube Corner, I was greeted by the sweet aroma of freshly baked cake. Instead of party decorations, now I could see lots of delicious looking cakes on display behind glass. There were a few ponies sitting at tables eating cake. Pinkie was sitting on the counter, helping herself to some chocolate chip cookies laid out on a plate.
She ate several in a row before asking me, "Danny, want some cookies?" She held one up to me.
"Are you supposed to be eating those?" I say hesitantly. "And how are you holding those?"
"C'mon, they're delicious!"
Those cookies smelled amazing, and looked delicious, but I didn't want to risk getting in trouble with the Cakes. I needed to be on their good side to get hired. "I don't think so."
A yellow earth pony stallion, who I knew to be Mr. Cake, walked in from a door behind the counter and saw Pinkie eating the cookies he laid out. He then looked very annoyed, like he's dealt with Pinkie many times before. "Pinkie!" He scolded irritably. He sighed and put his hoof to his face. "Those weren't for you. And stop sitting on the counter, that's where food goes."
"Oh, sorry about that." Pinkie smiled sheepishly and got off the counter.
"Let me pay for those." I levitate my pouch of bits out of my saddle bag and place in on the counter.
"That'll be five bits, sir." The Mr. Cake takes the bits I count out and puts them into a cash register.
"Aww, you didn't have to do that." Pinkie, bites into another cookie. "I just have to do extra work when I eat the Cakes' food."
"Really?"
"Yes she does," The stallion says, still irritated from earlier. "In exchange for working here, Pinkie Pie is allowed to live here, and if she does extra work, we pay for her parties and the food she eats. She does owe a lot of extra work though. I'm Carrot Cake, by the way."
"I'm Daniel. I'm a friend of Pinkie."
"That reminds me, Pinkie, shouldn't you be working right now?"
She had finished the cookies, leaving an empty plate. "Oh right. I was just giving Daniel a tour of Ponyville, he's new here. I also wanted to get him a job so he has a way of making money. Can he work here?"
Could she be any more direct? I don't think that'll help me much.
"No, Pinkie. I can't do that. I don't even know him. Cup Cake would never approve of that."
"Let's ask her."
"Ask me what, dearie?" Mrs. Cake came out from the kitchen. "I heard somepony talking about me."
"Mrs. Cake, can my new friend get a job here? He's new in Ponyville, and he doesn't have a job, or very many friends yet. He's a hard worker and it would be great if he could work here. Please?"
"If he's new in Ponyville, then how do you know he's a hard worker?"
"Well, I don't, but he is."
"I don't know if that's a good idea."
"Pleeeeeaaaase?" Pinkie stared at them with puppy dog eyes, which made her look absolutely adorable. I doubt anypony could say no to her after seeing that. Mr. Cake didn't seem to care, but it got through to Mrs. Cake.
Mrs. Cake sighed. "Carrot, come with me, we'll discuss it." She went back into the kitchen.
"Is it just me, or is she too nice?" I ask.
Mr. Cake leans over the counter and whispers in my ear, "She is way too nice. It was her decision to let Pinkie live here, not mine."
"That makes sense." And with that, Carrot went into the kitchen too.
"Yay! Didja that, Danny? You might be able work here!" Pinkie started bouncing in place.
"Sshh," I say. I walk behind the counter and put my ear to the door to hear what they're saying in the kitchen. I couldn't quite figure out who was saying what, but I could understand them.
"But we can't just hire a random pony off the streets because he claims to be Pinkie's friend. We don't know how experienced he is." I assume that the first voice is Mr. Cake's.
"I think we should hire him. He's new in Ponyville, after all the time and money he probably spent moving here, he's in need of a job."
"How do we know we can even trust him? Does Pinkie even know him very well?"
"I'm sure she does, she knows everything about everypony."
"But we don't know anything other than his name. We can't trust him unless we know everything we need to know."
"Then we'll get to know him, then hire him. He could be just what we need here. Please, honey?"
I heard a sigh. "Fine, we'll interview him. If I don't like him, he isn't getting hired. Cup Cake, I love you, but sometimes, you're too nice."
"Thank you."
I backed away from the counter to avoid getting in trouble. The door opened, with Mrs. Cake and Mr. Cake coming out again. "Daniel, me and Cup Cake have made a decision." Mr. Cake gave a defeated sigh. "We're going to interview you to decide whether or not to hire you."
"Great, so when will we do the interview?"
"We can start right now. Pinkie will run the shop while we're busy." Said Mrs. Cake.
"Okie dokie lokie, Mrs. Cake!" Pinkie does a salute and jumps behind the counter.
"Daniel, allow me to introduce myself, I am Cup Cake. It's nice to meet you. Now, come with us." Mrs. Cake went back into the kitchen with Mr. Cake.
"Bye, Pinkie." I say before going into the kitchen.
"See ya later, Danny!" She waves her hoof goodbye while I go into the kitchen, where the cakes are waiting for me. There was cake batter and ingredients scattered around the counters and floors.
"This way," Mr. Cake said. They led me through another door into an office looking room. Like every room, various candies and other sweets decorated the office, only the sweets in this room were fake. "Sit down, and we'll begin."
I sit fairly uncomfortably in the chair in front of the desk and the Cakes both sit down behind a desk. "First of all," Said Mrs. Cake, "What is your full name?"
"My full name Is Daniel Scott Fischer. You can just call me Daniel. Most ponies don't call me Danny, but you can if you want to. It doesn't bother me." Even on my world, nobody called me "Danny". So far, Pinkie was one of the first to call me that, other than my friends.
"Where are you from?"
"I'm from a place called Nebraska, in a place called America, A.K.A, The United States. To be more specific, a town known as Lincoln. It's a very far away place. So far, in fact, that nopony in Ponyville has ever heard of it." I told the truth about where I'm from, but I didn't want say anything about being a human. The main six were the only six who needed to know my true origin.
Mr. Cake picked up a pencil using his mouth and wrote some things down. "What did you do before you moved here?" He didn't really want to hire, so he was probably trying to find any reason to not hire me.
"I helped make and fix machines." I actually helped design the programming for computers for a living. I stretched the truth slightly, as I didn't really fix computers. Saying I make machines would be easier to explain than saying, "I help design and develop the programming of various applications used on computers."
I wanted to be a programmer on earth, mostly as a secondary job I wanted. As a kid, I loved playing video games very much. I loved them so much, I wanted to do something involving guns as a kid, or something where I fight others. Those were stupid dreams, and I eventually found a more realistic dream when I grew older. I also gave up on those dreams because I wouldn't have more time to myself, which meant less time with video games and surfing the internet.
"What kind of machines?"
"Just machines in general. Mostly the types used to do calculations and scientific reports. They're pretty complicated to most ponies." Technically, that was correct for computers, but I could've been more specific.
Mr. Cake wrote some more things down. "Why are you asking for a job at a bakery then?" Asked Mrs. Cake.
"I didn't, Pinkie did. I don't know of any jobs related to what I do here in Ponyville anyway. I don't think anypony here uses machines. Also, I think this'll be a nice change for me."
Mr. Cake nodded and wrote some more things down. "How much experience do you have baking?"
"I've never worked in a bakery before, but I do know how to bake. I'd say I have an average amount of baking experience."
Mr. Cake nodded and wrote more things down. "I just have one more question. It's not important, but I'm just curious. Why did you move here?"
"Excuse me?"
"Nebraska sounds like a big, faraway place. Why did you decide to move to a small town like Ponyville? Why would you move so far away?"
I wasn't sure what to say. I didn't want to think about my home back on Earth. I had what I considered a pretty good life. I had liked the first few episodes of MLP:FiM, but I never wanted to come here.
I sigh sadly, look down at the ground, and close my eyes. "I was forced to move here, against my will," I say quietly. "I would rather not talk about it. It's a personal reason."
"Was it something bad?" Mrs. Cake said with concern.
"It was pretty bad. I'm never going to see my family again. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to any of my friends or family. They won't even know I came here. They'll just assume I'm gone for good, and since I can never go back there, I might as well be." At this point, a couple of tears roll down my cheek. I quickly wipe them away.
"I'm sorry I asked," said Mr. Cake, "You don't have to tell us. It's not important. Please excuse us." Mr. And Mrs Cake started whispering to each other. This time, I couldn't understand either of them. Mr. Cake picked up the paper he was writing on and showed it to Mrs. Cake, then they whispered a bit more.
"Daniel, we've made a decision," said Mrs. Cake after her discussion with Mr. Cake. "We've decided to hire you."
"Really? Thank you. What will I be doing?
"We don't think you have what it takes to be a baker, but Cup Cake really wants to hire you, so we decided to hire you as our janitor."
"No, I don't mind, It's better than nothing." I give a small smile. I then start to remember the mess in the kitchen. That'll be nice, a job cleaning up after horses. Well, technically their ponies, so they'd be miniature horses. That doesn't make the job much better though. "Thank you again."
"It nothing. We know how much you need this job, so we're gonna give it to you. Besides, none of us ever have time to clean. We're all either cooking, running the register, or closing the shop," said Mrs. Cake.
"So when can I start?"
"You can start tomorrow at 8:30, when we open," said Mr. Cake, "Tonight, I'm going to write up a schedule for you so you know when to work. Thank you for being here, I guess you can leave now."
"I will. See you tomorrow."
"Likewise."
After a quick goodbye from the cakes, I got up and went back into the main area of Sugarcube Corner, where Pinkie Pie was still running the register. When she saw me exit the kitchen, she smiled and greeted me.
"Hi!" She waved at me. "So willya be workin here?"
"Yep, I'll be starting tomorrow."
"That's great! You know what that means? That means we'll get to spend so much time together! You'll be here, I'll be here, and even when I'm not working, I'll be here! You know why? Because I live here! Oh, I am so exited!" Pinkie started bouncing in place exitedly. "This almost as exiting as the time you and Twilight came to town! I say almost, because nothing could top that!"
"That'll be great. I look forward to spending time with you."
"Ooooooooh what does that mean?" Pinkie stops bouncing and starts poking me playfully. "Somepony wants to spend time with me, who also happens to be a stallion?" She starts giggling. "There's something fishy about this." She pretends to be suspicious of something.
"I don't know what you're implying, but it's not true." Pinkie then turned around to deal with some customers. I was blushing slightly now, so I was thankful she was too busy to notice. Is she implying that I have a crush on her? That's just great.
I did actually like Pinkie Pie quite a bit before I came to Equestria. I also wasn't completely against the idea of a relationship with one of the mares here. I felt like this for all the main six though, and even for a few ohers so I didn't really consider it a "crush". I felt like this ever since I saw the first episode of FiM.
Pinkie turns back to me. "Riiiiiight," she rolls her eyes in disbelief. She then bursts out laughing. "I'm just kidding, Danny, we're just friends. I know that." She waves a dismissing hoof at me.
I breath a small sigh of relief when she turns around again. I knew that Pinkie barely knew me, but I was slightly disheartened when I realized that she said, "just friends".
"So,–" Pinkie turns to me again. "–what will ya be doin' here in Sugarcube corner?"
"I'm gonna be a janitor, if that's what you're asking."
"That's okay, we can still have fun together. Don't worry, I don't make messes very often."
I can't help but smile at her optimism and consideration. I step around the counter and continue talking over it. "I think I'm gonna go now."
"Awwww, really?" Pinkie starts pouting.
"Twilight wanted to see me at her library. Besides, I have some errands to run.
"Oh, okay then."
"Before I go though, I'd like to buy something." I get my pouch of bits out of my saddlebag and place it on the counter.
"Whadoya want? We mostly specialize in cake, but we also have lots of other pastries and treats, like cupcakes, pie, muffins, coo–"
"I'll take some cupcakes."
"How many? How big? What kind of cake? What kind of icing? Do you want decorations on the cake? What decorations?"
"Um... never mind." I don't think spending an hour deciding what I want is the best use of my afternoon.
"It's okay, I'll choose all that stuff. I'll have to teach you about cake and all the different flavors. There are some cupcakes already baked in the kitchen.
"How many can a pony eat?"
Pinkie sits up and starts rubbing her belly. "I can eat lots and lots and lots of yummy treats!" She rubs her hooves on her face. "Sometimes I just like to rub cake and other things all over my face, and then I eat them!" She licks her face, then she frowns. "But sometimes when I eat too many things, my tummy hurts, and it stops feeling yummy." She perks up again. "Don't worry, that doesn't happen very often."
"Okay then..." That was probably the weirdest thing Pinkie has done so far today. "That didn't really answer my question."
"Was it supposed to?"
I give an annoyed sigh and bring my hoof to my face. Now I could see why so many ponies find Pinkie to be annoying. Not me though, because while she did irritate me, she was still a great pony. Besides, she was now giving me an innocent looking smile, which means I almost had to stop being mad at her.
"Just get me half a dozen."
"Alrighty then, half a dozen cupcakes, comin' right up!" Pinkie goes into the kitchen and comes out with a blue box, which she sets on the counter. "That'll be three bits." I levitate three bits onto the counter, where Pinkie scoops them up and drops them into the cash register. "Thank you! You'll like these."
I open the box and see six pink frosted cupcakes neatly lined up. I close the box and pick it up. "Bye, Pinkie." I say as I head for the door.
"Bye, Danny, see you soon! Not soon enough, if ya ask me!" She waved goodbye at me. "Oh, and thanks for the cookies!" She said before I exited the bakery.
Alright, now to see Twilight. This'll be a great opportunity to make friends with her. If my magic gets better, maybe I could bond with her over it. I should borrow some more books too. Now, which way is Twilight's library again? Oh yeah, it was this way.
Although Pinkie's tour wasn't particularly helpful, it was enough to tell me how to get to some of the more important locations in Ponyville.
Before I started toward the library, I pulled a cupcake put of my saddlebag and ate it whole. Being a pony, I had a much bigger mouth and could fit a cupcake in there quite easily. As soon as it went into my mouth, I realized that this was one of the best cupcakes I've ever eaten. I immediately throw another one into my mouth.
While I was enjoying myself, a brown pegasus stallion with a brown mane and a crescent moon as a cutie mark noticed what I was doing. There were a lot of ponies walking through the streets at this time. He stopped and gave me a weird look. "You really like those cupcakes, don't you?" He asked.
"These are the best cupcakes I've ever eaten."
"Yeah, they're okay, but I don't really like the pony who made them."
"Mrs. Cake?"
"No, Pinkie Pie. You must be new in town, so I'll tell you. Stay away from her, she's one of the most obnoxious ponies in Ponyville, if not the most. Just a warning."
"No, she isn't. She's a great pony."
"Actually, she is kind of annoying," said a dark blue mare unicorn with a green mane and a vase of flowers for a cutie mark. She was also walking along the path past Sugarcube corner. "She talks too much with that high pitched voice."
"She also throws parties all of the time," said a brown stallion with an hourglass cutie mark. "The Sugarcube corner closes early when she throws parties. Where else am I supposed to get cake when it closes?"
"And another thing, she–"
"Everypony, just stop!" I shout, cutting off a caramel-colored stallion with a brown mane. Now several ponies have stopped and are now staring at me. "Pinkie Pie is a great pony. She's optimistic, kind, fun, and she always has something interesting to say! I even think she's kind of pretty! I don't know why you all hate her, I would think everypony loves her! I guess not! It's not her who's bad, it's you all who fail to see her good qualities! I don't think any of you are any better, judging somepony who tries her best to make everypony happy! If Pinkie Pie isn't good enough for all of you, then I don't know who is!"
I was probably a bit angrier then I should have been at them, although they have no right to treat her that way after everything she's done. Them picking on Pinkie behind her back angers me more than she would ever be able to.
Now that I was done with my lecture, everypony who was listening was now glaring at me. One by one, they all turned their back and walked away, resuming what they were doing. The last pony to walk away was the crescent pony. "If you love her so much, how about you marry her?" He says mockingly. "You're gonna do just fine here in Ponyville, I can already tell." With that, he flys off.
Everybody, I mean, everypony, loves Pinkie in the show. What happened? I hope they don't hate me for that. I guess I should get going now. I better get going. I shrug it off, which I didn't think was possible as a pony. I take another cupcake out of the box start eating it as I continue on.
Pinkie sat at the counter of Sugarcube corner, with her elbows on the counter and her chin resting on her hooves. She had a bored expression on her face. She was bored with nopony to talk to while Daniel was being interviewed, and now he was gone, leaving her with nothing to do. Daniel was now enjoying a cupcake in front of the door.
Wow, he's acting like he's never had a cupcake before, she thought to herself. When Daniel finished the cupcakes, Pinkie saw the crescent pony approaching him. What does Crescent want from Danny?
She could vaguely hear what they were saying, and Crescent was talking about why he doesn't like Pinkie. Now she could see Forsythia, Dr. Hooves, and Caramel talking about her.
She sighed sadly. Why do they hate me so much?
"Everypony, just stop!"
"Huh?" Pinkie perked up. Daniel then started to talk about how great Pinkie is, and how everypony else is wrong. She even blushed slightly at some of the things he said.
Pinkie started to feel depressed again, not because of the other ponies, but because now almost everybody will hate him. there were a lot of ponies walking the streets that day, and they all heard. None of them were happy with what he had to say.
Does he really like me? He must really enjoy my company, and he barely knows me. I'm glad somepony else likes me other than my best friends. Although even they can't stand me all the time. I feel terrible for Danny, now everypony is gonna hate him because he had to stand up for me. I some cupcakes to cheer myself up. Pinkie sighs again and goes into the kitchen, starting preparations to bake a batch of cupcakes.
Chapter 4 - Settling in - Part 2
By the time I got to the library, I had eaten four of the cupcakes. I saved the other two for Twilight and Spike. I made a quick stop at home and ate before heading over there, as I was still hungry.
Arriving at the library, I knock a few times and the door immediately opens. Twilight was sitting in her desk reading a book.
Wow, she can use magic without even trying. I don't think I could do that.
"Hello." Twilight looked up at me and gave me a friendly smile. "You showed up a little later than I expected."
"I visited Sugarcube Corner after Pinkie gave me a tour of Ponyville. I bought myself some cupcakes. I brought some for you and Spike, want one?" I bring out the remaining two.
Spike immediately appears at the top of the stairs. "What? I heard my name and something about cupcakes!"
"Here's one just for you." I levitate one cupcake up to Spike, who was now smiling and licking his lips.
"Thanks!" He grabs it. "I love Pinkie's cupcakes!" He disappears into his room. I gave the other one to Twilight.
"Thank you." Twilight takes hers. "Are you sure it's a good idea to be buying things for others? You have fairly limited amount of bits."
"It's fine, I still have plenty. Besides, I got a job at Sugarcube Corner."
"Really? You walked in and they just hired you?"
"No, Pinkie begged them to hire me, and then they just sorta did. I think it may have been because they feel bad for me. So what are you doing?
"I was just reading a book while I was waiting for you. So now that you're here, do you wanna get going now?"
"I guess so. Let's go."
"Alright, gimme a second." Twilight places a bookmark in her book, and places it on a shelf. She goes upstairs to where Spike is. "Spike! Watch the library while I'm gone!" She came back down the stairs and levitates a saddlebag onto her back. She takes a few books and stuffs them into her bag. "I'm ready to go."
"What is he doing up there?"
"I dunno, he's probably napping. He's a pretty lazy dragon."
I open the door for Twilight and we start heading for the edge of town. On our way there, Twilight started eating her cupcake.
"Those cupcakes are great aren't they?" I ask when she finishes.
"Yes, they are pretty good."
"Pretty good? Those were the best cupcakes I've ever eaten. And that was only one flavor. I can't wait to try them all."
"You don't have cupcakes on Earth? You do come from Earth, right?"
"Yeah."
"Anyway, my books say that humans are loosely similar to us ponies in culture and behavior, I would think that they exist there."
"They do. I've just never eaten one so delicious before."
"Oh, okay then."
I decide to change the conversation to something less frivolous. "So why are we doing this?"
"Doing what?"
"You like to train your magic regularly. Why do you want to train with me, you barely know me."
"Well, you're new here. If you came here from Earth, then that means you probably lost all of your friends. You're gonna stay in Ponyville for quite a while anyway, so I just thought I should be friendly with you. Besides, you saved us from Nightmare Moon the other night. I didn't think about magic being an element of harmony. If it weren't for you giving me the idea, I don't even know what would have happened. Thank you for saving us from her, by the way."
"You're welcome."
"Afterwards, I could sense that you have the potential to be very powerful. Anypony has the potential to be strong, but they don't take the opportunity, and it gets wasted. Maybe if I help you out by doing this, you could use your magic for something useful, like I do."
"That makes sense." It really did make sense. Although I still thought it was weird for her to do something like this with somepony she just met, I could see her point.
By the time we had finished that small conversation, we had arrived at the edge of town.
"This place is perfect." Twilight observed the area. There were a couple trees scattered around, but other than that, the place was a huge clearing. "This clearing has plenty of open space, I could setup everything and still have plenty of space. In fact, I think I'll make this my regular training spot now."
I look up and see a small dot zooming across the sky. "Looks like someone, err, I mean somepony else, had the same idea." I point it out to Twilight.
"I wonder who that is. And by the way, you could've said 'someone' instead of 'somepony'. It doesn't matter which one you use."
"Oh. I wonder who that is." I look up at the sky and bring my hoof up to my mouth, thinking that it would make my voice louder. "HELLO! WHO'S UP THERE?" I shout as loudly as I can.
The dot stops and starts to fly towards us. When it gets close enough, I can see that it's Rainbow Dash.
She smiles. "Oh, hey, Twilight." She waves a hoof. She sees me and give me an awkward glance. "Uh, hey, Daniel."
"Hey there, Rainbow Dash," I reply. "How are you doing?"
"Good."
"That's good. That's real good. Being good is... uh... good."
"Yeah."
I'm glad Twilight said something, as I didn't know how much more of that I could take. "So what are you doing here, Rainbow?" She asks.
"This is where I practice all my flying moves. Sometimes others come to watch, but not today. If I'm ever gonna join the Wonderbolts, I gotta stay in top shape." She flys a small circle over us. "I'd show you what I learned, but I'm getting kinda worn out. What are you two doing here?"
"I just thought that since Daniel isn't going anywhere, we should get to know him."
"You know," I say, "if I knew any better, I'd say we were on a date. I wonder..." I bring my hoof to my chin as if I was actually considering it.
"Ha ha, very funny," Twilight responds sarcastically.
"Well, we better get started then. Rainbow, mind if we practice here too?"
"Nah, I was almost done for today anyway. I think I'll just watch and you two. Besides, I need a rest." Rainbow flies to a nearby tree and lays down on a branch. She lays her head on a pillow that was already on the branch.
"Let's start, Daniel." With a glow of her horn, Twilight summoned a target out of nowhere and it lands a good distance away from us.
"Wow, you can summon things?"
"Not really, it was just a simple teleportation spell. I teleported a target that was in my library to that spot there." She points to the target. "It's more difficult to teleport objects from one spot to another, but I can manage."
"Now, just let me get my book." She pulls a spell tome out of her saddlebag and opens it. She flips through pages and stops when she finds the page she's looking for. "Ah, here it is. Daniel, I'm going to cast this spell, and I want you to cast it after me. It's a basic spell that shoots a small ball of magic at the target. Allow me to demonstrate."
Twilight's horn started to glow again, and for several seconds, her horn continued to glow brighter and brighter. Her face scrunched up in concentration. And without even breaking a sweat, a small ball of purple, magical energy came out of her horn and flew towards the target, hitting it directly in the middle and making a small explosion. She looked at me and said, "Your turn."
I start concentrating and my horn starts to glow. I started concentrating, and eventually straining, to cast the spell. A few drops of sweat dripped down my face. I wasn't sure what I was doing, but whatever it was, it was working. After about a minute of this, a smaller, black ball of magic energy flew out of my horn. Instead of hitting the target like Twilight, this ball sailed right over the target and dissipated harmlessly in the sky.
"Nice one, Daniel!" Rainbow sniggers. Twilight turns around and glares at her. "Hey, I'm just kidding! Come on, that was funny!"
Twilight turned back to me. Although I didn't hit the target, she seemed impressed. "That's impressive. Not very many unicorns can do magic that well on their first try."
"I must be pretty good at it then."
"Maybe, although most unicorns don't bother with this stuff anyway, so it's hard to tell. You know, I said yesterday that I think you're special talent involves magic of some kind. This is further evidence that I'm right."
"You might be. I do have an interest in magic. I've done quite a bit of research on it in my world. Maybe we could study together sometime." I was quite winded, but when I cast that spell for the first time, it actually felt right. I liked the feeling of casting magic quite a bit, as well as the results of the magic.
"Oh no, you wouldn't want to do that. You only arrived here a few days ago. I'm sure you have better things to do."
"No, I don't. I would love to spend more time with you."
Twilight blushes slightly. "Well, if you really want to, then I guess we could do that."
Rainbow burst out laughing. "Wow, really? Is that what you'll do?" she laughs some more. "That's hilarious! 'Hey Twilight, wanna go on a date? We'll read together!'" At this point, I thought she was going to fall out of the tree from laughing so hard. She used her wings to keep herself from doing so.
I simply ignored her. The I came with Twilight because I wanted my magic to be improved, and because I also like spending time with Twilight. If she didn't ask me to go with, I would have asked her. Most people wouldn't really care for being where I am right now, I was happy she was asking me to do this stuff, instead of the other way around. I might have looked suspicious if I asked her.
"So Twilight, maybe us and Rainbow Dash could go get something to eat after we're done here. I'm kinda hungry."
"Sure, I haven't had lunch yet. You just want her to come along because you don't want this to seem like a date, don't you?" She gives me a playful smile.
"You got me. That was my way of asking for a third date from you."
She just rolls her eyes. "For now, let's just get back to your magic. It's still pretty basic."
"Ugh, fine." I feign annoyance as I prepare the spell again, only this time, I try my best to hit the target.
______________________________________________________________________
"That was great. Daniel, you are getting good," Twilight said. "I was expecting you to get a cutie mark, but I guess I can't predict your special talent like I thought I could."
I was able to hit the target after several tries. I missed several times and even failed to cast the spell at all a few times. Fortunately, Twilight knew a spell that restored my energy, cutting down the time we would have spent recovering.
Rainbow just watched and spent the entire time heckling us. And now, the three of us were on our way back to Ponyville. She was flying, following me and Twilight.
"I'm getting hungry too. Any idea on where we should eat?" She said
"Yeah, let's go to the café," said Twilight.
She was talking about the flower café we were just walking by. So we went to the café, found an outdoor table for three, and we each sat down at a chair. Twilight assured me that they would know that we we waiting.
"So what's good here?" I say, skimming through the menu on the table.
"I wouldn't know, I don't eat here very often." Rainbow laid her menu on the table.
"I'm gonna order the daisy sandwich."
"Me too," me and Twilight both say, not knowing what to eat.
The waiter approached our table. He had a combed mane and a vest. His cutie mark was a silver platter. "Hello, I will be your waiter today, may I take your order?"
"We'll all three have the daisy sandwich," Twilight said politely.
"I'll also have the hay fries," I say.
The waiter looked surprised at my appearance. "Oh, it's you."
"Yeah, it's me. What about it?"
"Daniel, what is he talking about?" Twilight asked with concern.
"He's the pony who made a fool of himself about an hour ago, defending the insane baker," he replied.
"Hey!" Rainbow slammed her hoof into the table. "Her name is Pinkie Pie, and she's not insane!"
"Whatever. I'll still et your orders now, because refusing service would be unprofessional of me. But know this: I don't like you. It's Daniel, Right? What kind of name is that anyway?" He headed back inside the café.
"Mocking is unprofessional too, ya know!" I yell. "And my name is completely normal where I come from!" I'm not sure if he heard me, but all the other ponies eating outside did, and now they were all staring at me. They quickly go back to eating. "Are ponies here always like that?"
"Most of them. The ponies of Ponyville don't like being disagreed with. Just ignore them," said Rainbow. "You know, whenever those jerks are picking on Pinkie, it's almost always me who has to convince her they're wrong."
I raise an eyebrow at what she said. "You don't agree with them, do you?"
"What? No! I would never think that, Pinkie's a great friend."
"When I first came here, I thought the whole town was crazy, not just her. Maybe they'll all change the way they think too," Twilight said hopefully.
"I doubt it. They've felt like this the day she moved to Ponyville from that rock farm she used to live on."
The waiter who was waiting us came out and placed our food on the table. I was glaring at him the whole time. He then walked away, saying nothing.
I pick up my sandwich and examine it. It was just a bunch of daisies stuffed between two slices of bread. The hay fries looked like it was just a small pile of hay.
I cautiously take a bite and chew it slowly. "This is great!" I say after swallowing it.
"Do you have flowers where you come from?" Twilight takes the first bite of her sandwich.
"They do exist on Earth. But humans can't eat flowers. They taste terrible, and some are even dangerous to the health of humans. I guess I can eat them now. I can't wait to try all the different plants here in Equestria."
"Be careful with that. Not all plants are edible."
Rainbow ate her sandwich as she listened to our conversation. "Daniel, why are you eating so fast?"
My sandwich was almost gone, and so were my hay fries. The other two had only taken a few bites. "I eat very fast. I always have. Besides, this food is great." I don't try to eat fast, it was just a habit I developed as a kid that stuck to me ever since.
Twilight changed the conversation. "So Daniel, how is Equestria so for for you?"
"I guess I like it so far. I'm just glad Rainbow Dash trusts me now."
"What about Applejack?" asked Rainbow. "She was distrustful of you the minute she knew you were a human. It makes sense if you ask me."
"Rarity said the same thing to me. What are you two talking about? It seems like everyone knows but me."
"I don't know either. What is it, Rainbow?" asked Twilight.
"I can't tell you two. Applejack would kill me if I told you before she does."
"Does it have anything to do with me?" I ask.
"Look, she'll tell you both everything when she trusts you fully. But until then, just leave it alone," She says with a hint of annoyance.
"Alright, I'm sorry I asked."
"Me too." I'm sure Pinkie will tell me. If not, I'll ask Fluttershy.
"Alright, I gotta get going." Rainbow said as she ate the last of her sandwich. "I still have to work. Bye, Twilight. And uh, bye, Daniel." She the flew off.
"I don't know about you, but I'm glad she's finally gone." I say jokingly
"Oh I'm sure you are." She said. I could't tell if it was sarcasm, a joke, or her being serious. "...Wait a second... Did she just leave us to pay for her food?"
"I'll pay for her sandwich. Yours too." I pull out my bit pouch to pay. I really liked how my bit pouch was big enough to fit 200 bits yet it could still fit in my bag.
"Oh, you don't have to do that. I still don't think you can afford to be paying for others."
"It's fine," I assure her. "I have plenty of money. I doubt it's very expensive to live in Ponyville anyway, and I still have well over 200 bits."
"Well, thank you then. You know, it should be us being generous to you, not the other way around."
"I'll remember that." I pull out my bit pouch and leave what we owe. "So are you doing anything else today?"
"Nothing in particular, why?"
"Me neither. I think we should go to your library now. Now that we were talkin' about it, I'm kinda interested in learning about the humans as Equestria knows them. I also wanna learn about that magic."
"Okay, I have plenty of books on that. I'd like to learn more about humans too. I've never had any reason to study them until now."
"Let's go."
Once she finished her sandwich, Twilight and me headed for the library.
I've only spent a little over day here, and I already had a date with a mare. We were just friends, but it was still technically a date. You could say I was settling in pretty well, with pony society being similar to human society.
I was pretty happy at the time for what I've been through. Now I knew for sure I had at least two good friends, Pinkie and Twilight. Rarity and Fluttershy claimed to by my friend, but they just seemed indifferent to my presence. Things seemed a little awkward for me and Rainbow Dash, and I assumed the same would be true for Applejack.
I will try to befriend other ponies, but I don't know who'd accept me. When I do figure that out, I'll try to befriend others. I wasn't specifically trying to do this for the main six though.
So what I'm saying here is that so far, I was settling in nicely. These last few days weren't the best, but I'm sure others have it worse.
"Are you okay?"
I realized I was thinking about all this while Twilight was talking to me. I snap out of it. "I fine. I was just thinking about my new home. I'm still not over the fact that I'm stuck here though. I hope that's not getting old. It seems like I've been telling everyone the same thing all the time."
"Don't worry about it. You'll love it here. I know you will." Twilight gives me a comforting smile.
"At least I have a few friends now."
"You shouldn't focus on just us six though. There are so many good ponies in town."
"I know, but a lot of them are jerks. If they're gonna be jerks to me, then I don't know if I want their friendship."
"Don't you think it would be easier to settle in though?"
"Really? I've been here a day and a half, and I already have a house, a job, two good friends, and a date with you. I think I've settled in just fine."
"No offense, but you only have a house because the princess feels bad for you, and a job because the Cakes feel bad for you. And we may be on a date, but we're just friends."
I sigh, "You're right."
"I know I am."
I give Twilight a deadpan stare and she responds with a giggle. We continue walking along the dirt road.
"You know..." I start, "Before I came here, I was pretty good with machines. Maybe if you need my help with any of them while I'm there..."
"Nice try, but you told me yesterday you're just a computer programmer. We don't have computers in Equestria."
Uh, why did I do that? I give myself a small face-hoof with out Twilight noticing. Looks like I won't be bonding with her over machines.
The café was fairly close to the library, so we didn't have to walk far before the library was in sight.
***
The time was night in the city of Manehatten, and it was very quiet. The bustling ponies who normally crowded the streets were now in bed. The lights were all out, enveloping the city in darkness. Almost everypony was asleep at a time like this.
One Pony who wasn't sleeping was a blue unicorn mare with a white mane by the name of Trixie, although she preferred to be called "The Great and Powerful Trixie".
Right now, she was in an inn, about to buy a room. Trixie is a nomad, traveling through Equestria with her cart and performing magic shows in every town she stops in. She uses most of the money earned from shows to sleep in inns and eat food, as she had no permanent home.
In the inn, she approached the inn keeper, who was behind the counter, with the necessary bits in her mouth. The Inn keeper was an earth pony stallion with a light brown coat and a black mane. His cutie mark was a bed with red covers and a white pillow, but it couldn't be seen from behind the counter.
"Hey there," said the inn keeper as Trixie approached him.
"Shut up and get me a room for the night," she said harshly, throwing a small pouch of bits on the counter.
"Alright then." He takes the pouch and counts the bits. "Hey, did you hear the rumor that there's a human in Canterlot who moved to Ponyville? Sounds pretty bizarre."
"Yeah, right," she said doubtfully as she went to her room.
Her main purpose for this wasn't to entertain ponies, or to make a living. The main reason she does this is to prove that she's the most powerful pony in Equestria. So far, none of the towns or cities she's went to had better than her. In every town she would prove how good she is, everypony would be impressed, and Trixie would earn enough money to go to the next town. Nobody knew why she was so obsessed with being the best, except for her, and she had no intention of telling anybody her tragic past.
It would seem like she was doing a pretty good job, and that she was good at what she did, but she didn't think so. Trixie hated how things had turned out so far, but only because no one could even come close to having her ability. She wanted a challenge, she wanted somepony strong to defeat just to make her victory much better than before. Unfortunately for her, she saw everybody as weak and not worth challenging, but she had to challenge everypony she could. This was the only way she made money, so without challenging ponies in her shows, she wouldn't be able to afford going to the next town.
Trixie had just finished the show she did in Manehatten, and she was now in her room, about to plan her next destination. It was a simple room, with just a bed and a table used for writing. A large map of Equestria was spread out on the table, with several locations crossed out in red.
"I cannot believe this!" Trixie threw off her purple magician hat in frustration. "Out of all the ponies in Manehatten, not one had even half my ability! A victory against weak ponies means nothing to me, I need to find a town with more powerful ponies."
She studied her map for a while, trying to decide where to go, when she noticed Ponyville on the map. "Ponyville? Isn't that the place with the human?"
She sighed in disbelief. "I highly doubt that's true, but I'd like to see one for myself. Maybe I should go to Ponyville next." She put a hoof to her chin in consideration. "That place won't have anypony worth challenging, that's for sure, but if there really is a human in Ponyville, it'd be worth going to see that alone. I don't know if I'll ever get another chance to see one in real life."
Trixie levitates a pencil off the table and marks her map. "It's settled then, my next stop will be Ponyville. Too bad I can't afford a train." Using her pencil, she marks a few more towns. "Since I'll be passing these towns anyway, I could also stop by Fillydelphia and Baltimare, they'd only be slightly out of the way."
She rolled up her map and yawned. "I better get to sleep. I'll leave first thing in the morning." Trixie took off her cape and placed them on the table with the map. She rolled into bed tiredly and turned off the light. "I hope the human will still be there by the time I get to Ponyville." She yawned again and closed her eyes. "And I really need to stop talking to myself," She said just before allowing sleep to overtake her.
