Chapter 1: When They Were Foals
A familiar voice says, "A long, long, long time ago, I mean like a thousand plus years ago, there lived two sisters and a colt with a dark future."
"Doctor, what are you doing?" asked Derpy.
"Why Miss Hooves, I'm narrating," said the Doctor.
Derpy replied, "Why are you narrating?"
The Doctor answered, "I'm telling the story of when we watched over the royal sisters as foals. Also, I'm filling in for supersoildsnake."
"Who's that?" Derpy inquired.
"He's our usual narrator. I'm filling in because he's out having lunch. I think he's having chocolate chocolate chip muffins." the Doctor answered.
"MUFFINS!!!" Derpy said and vanished.
Moments later, Derpy reappeared with two dozen muffins. "I needed something to munch while I listen to your story," Derpy said.
"Well, then. Shall we continue?" the Doctor said.
"Yes," Derpy said, with a mouthful of muffins.
"Avante!" replied the Doctor, and he continued narrating.
"The two sisters were named Princess Celestia and Princess Luna. And the colt, well, his name was Sombra. Now, keep in mind this was during the second Great Pony War, the war between Equestria and the Crystal Empire. So by all rights, the sisters and the colt should not have been friends. But they ended up being friends anyway. And, because of their friendship, a treaty was formed between the warring nations," the Doctor recounted.
"I bet you're wondering how I know all this. Well, the fact is I was there!" the Doctor stated.
"As time passed, Princess Luna grew especially fond of Sombra. In the next chapter of my story, I'll tell you how their friendship grew into love. That's all for now," the Doctor said. "Now Derpy, hand me one of those muffins. With butter; I love butter."
End of Chapter 1.
Chapter 2: Teenage Love
"As time passed, the foals grew into two beautiful young mares and a dashing young stallion," the Doctor continued. "Let's see, where should I go next in our story. Oh yes, Canterlot High School for the Magically Gifted. Oh, I know what you're thinking. As an earth pony, you can't have been at the school for the magically gifted. Well, that's where you'd be wrong. I was there to keep the students awake! When they'd doze off, I'd sonic them right in the ear! And there was one pony I had to sonic nearly every day: that was Princess Luna. After all, she was a night pony."
"As time went on, I noticed Luna and Sombra going to lunch together. They'd talk and talk. In fact, they're was rarely any eating going on! And they had that 'in love' look in their eyes. I wanted to go over and tell Luna that he was no good for her: I wanted to tell her Sombra's future. But 'spoilers', as one friend of mine put it. So, much to my regret, I allowed things to proceed on their own in the timeline," the Doctor said.
"As time came for the Grand Galloping Gala, things were already spiraling into great romance. Of course, Sombra and Luna went together. Sombra called Luna to the gardens and said, 'Luna, my love. Will you be my marefriend.' And she replied, 'Sombra, we've been together for months. I thought I already was.' He answered, 'To make it official, here's a crystal necklace I made for you.' Luna accepted the necklace and they finally kissed. And thus, it was a beautiful night. It was just as Luna had always dreamed for them," the Doctor remembered.
"I decided to follow Sombra back to his hotel in Canterlot, to see how things played out for him back then. Apparently, Sombra knew of Luna's immortality. Sombra was only a unicorn, so he was practicing magic to keep him alive. I bet you're wondering why he needed to do this, since he was only a teenage pony. The truth may shock you. It was because he had cancer. The illness had already ravaged his insides. He was staving off the progression of the disease and keeping himself young and strong for Luna," the Doctor reported. "However, the dark magic he used seeped into his mind, making him lose control. Luna had no clue of this, but her sister suspected something was wrong. Celestia was watching Sombra to see if she could figure it out. But at this time, she did not know what was going on and she allowed Luna's romance to continue."
"As time went on, so did their relationship. Sombra had always talked about how he wanted to be the kind king of the Crystal Empire",.the Doctor said. "But things don't always go as one planed."
Ok, Doctor. Time for you to step back, because I don't want you telling this part of the story.
"Oh, you're getting into THAT. Well, I'll be in the TARDIS if you need me. You still have the key, right?" the Doctor asked the narrator.
Yes, I still have the key. Derpy, you better go with the Doctor.
In the next chapter we're going to get "personal" with Luna and Sombra.
End of Chapter 2.
Chapter 3: Things are Getting Too Spicy for the Pepper!
Time. I think that is the Doctor's favorite word.... Any "who", time went on and the young mares grew into full grown mares and the young stallion grew into a full grown stallion. Soon, Celestia became princess of the sun and Luna became the princess of the moon. But Sombra was a straggler. His only real accomplishments were gaining Luna's love and learning powerful magic, if you can call that an achievement. In every meaning of the word, Sombra was a loser. But his love for Luna kept him going. One day, the shady unicorn got a letter from Luna saying, "Let's meet."
When Sombra got to Luna's room, the door magically opened. "Luna, I got your... whoa....." Sombra was shocked as he saw his love in sexy lingerie and laying in a sexy pose.
"Oh, Sombra dear, why don't you come to bed and we can have some fun."
Sombra smiled and said, "You look ravishing my dear."
Luna replied, "And you look as dashing as the moon."
Then, Sombra passionately kissed Luna as he caressed her wing. Things quickly got "too spicy for the pepper" and, as they finish their little love session, Luna fell asleep. But Sombra could not sleep. He galloped back to the hotel to keep Luna from finding out his secret.
End of Chapter 3.
Chapter 4: Sombra's Rule
"Alright, Miss Hooves. Time to continue the story!" said the Doctor, taking over for the narrator.
"Okay, but I'm gonna need more muffins," Derpy said.
The Doctor said, "Shall we fast forward to when Sombra took rule of the Crystal Empire?"
He continued, "At this point in the story, Sombra had already succumbed to the effects of the dark magic. He had become dark, cruel, and just plain evil! Sombra had barged into the Crystal Empire's throne room."
"Sombra said, 'Crystal King: I challenge you to hoof - to - hoof combat for the throne!'"
"The Crystal King stated, 'You are a fool, Sombra! A failure like you could never defeat me!'"
"They met at the Crystal Arena. Silence fell. Sombra and the Crystal King dashed at eachother, with death as their intent. Horns clashed, hooves cracked, and magic spells were forged. On and on they fought. And as the Crystal King was about to impale Sombra with his horn, Sombra teleported away. He appeared behind the king and whispered in his ear, 'Checkmate,' and impaled him instead. Sombra was victorious, with the king's blood running down his face! He was now ruler of the Crystal Empire," the Doctor recounted.
"For many years, Sombra ruled with an iron fist and dark intents. He enslaved the entire Empire and sent anypony who opposed him to work in the mines or executed them. He had changed, and he was no longer the sweet, dashing stallion with which Luna had fallen in love," the Doctor concluded.
End of Chapter 4.
Final Chapter: The Death of King Sombra
The Doctor had finished telling his story to Derpy and went out to do some "timey-wimey" stuff. But that was not the end of the story for Luna and Sombra.
When Luna heard of Sombra's treachery, it broke her heart. And with tears in her eyes, she and her sister banished him from the Crystal Empire. But as he was banished, in a final act of evil, Sombra made the Crystal Empire disappear!
With the grief of losing Sombra, feelings of Luna's night not being appreciated grew. Jealousy and anger toward her sister shaped into a darkness that took hold of Luna and turned her into Nightmare Moon. Celestia had no choice but to banish Luna in the moon.
One thousand years passed. Luna was freed from her prison in the moon. The Crystal Empire reappeared. Sombra returned and was defeated again. He was chased out of the Crystal Empire into the cold. But that was not the end of his story...
Some time later, the Crystal Princess, Cadance, found a magically sealed box. The energy signature indicated that only Luna's magic could open it. Cadance took the box to Luna in Canterlot. Cadance gently woke Luna from her slumber and asked her to open the box, because she was curious what was inside. Luna opened the box and saw that there was a crystal inside. It was a video crystal left by Sombra with a message for her.
Luna told Cadance she wanted to watch it by herself. So Cadance left, with the assurance that she'd later receive a full report about the video. Now alone, Luna watched the crystal.
The video crystal showed a holographic image of Sombra with a message. He pleaded, "Luna, my love. Over the years, we have done so many things. We have had so much fun! Our love is boundless! I feel I must explain what is happening to me, because I am losing control. I have been using dark magic to keep me alive and stave off the cancer, which is ravaging my body. I know it's wrong, but I didn't want to die and leave you alone. But now, I am close to the brink of losing my sanity. I'm afraid of what I might do. That is why you must promise me, if I do lose control, I want you to take my life. I love you, Luna. I'll love you forever."
Luna replied to the holographic image, "I promise, my love. I don't like it, but I do understand. I only wish I'd found this crystal sooner. It would've saved so many ponies, and us, so much pain."
Later, Sombra and Luna met again. Sombra snarled, "Luna, have you come to stop me again?"
Luna said, "Sombra, please try to remember our love. I only want to help."
Sombra barked, "I have no love, for my heart is dead inside!"
Luna sensed then that he was beyond saving. She knew what she had to do.
Before Sombra could react, Luna whispered, "Goodbye, my love," and impaled him with her horn through his heart!
Tears ran from her eyes, as Sombra's blood ran down her face. Luna's heart was broken again.
