"The victor will never be asked if he told the truth. "
-Adolf Hitler-
It started with a lie. It was a small lie, but tell a lie long enough and it suddenly becomes the truth.
Lets assume that Equestria didn't have the chance to start the plans of conversions. Lets assume that the use of one experimental weapon on the barrier, did something so Equestria disappears. Lets assume that during the midst of rage from the corporate world, a lie was told. A small lie.
But history does not ask if he who writes it is telling the truth. There are facts and there are voices. The fact was that a new land of full of resources waiting to be harvested, disappeared after a new weapon was used on it. The corporate voice said that it was the fault of one person.
And it started with a small lie.
“I did it.”
I remember one summer eleven years ago when me and her fled together into one of the remaining forests here in America. Right before The Collapse, we stocked up on whiskey, rum and machine guns and spent nights telling tales and getting drunk, under the teenage spirit we were under.
“Please, elaborate Miss Ovis. Tell us everything that happened before the launch.” one of the prosecutors requested.
We should have known. The soil of our country was gone overnight. We were no longer citizens, we were now slaves of whatever company we worked for. The flag of the USA was torn down, in its stead the flag of the corporate slave nation was placed.
“I was stationed at one of the command center, we called it Torch Nest 1. Everything happened from there.”
But we did not care. We were teenagers in the vastness of the last stronghold of nature. We sat under our fires and sang songs of laughter and despair. We slept with a thousand suns in our hearts, a thousand screams of joy in our head. We were lost birds in the midst of chaos. While the streets of our cities were filled with broken screams and wire fences we sat there making love. We were sheep, lost in our innocence, untainted by the fear of wolfs in the gargled forest we resided.
“My superiors at Velcro Inc. where still trying to find a way, with the help of the world government, to breach the defenses of the barrier. It was right about that time they announced the use of experimental weapons to disrupt the barrier.”
We did not remain sheep through. After long, we run out of food and water and we return to our cities where we found them drowned in blood and corporate dominance. We spent our nights in abandoned buildings between rust, concrete and dead metal. Every morning we would wake up sweating, trying to find newspapers as to what had happened. This wasn’t the same life we lived all of those nights ago.
“Now, I had heard of the apparent success of the small Anti-matter bombs that were used. Since my company was at the forefront of Anti-matter production and technologies, Torch Nest 1 was equipped with an Anti-matter Ballistics Missile.”
I discovered what had happened. We had reached the singularity. The Collapse happened. The world government was set up. They were in charge now.
“I was also Senior Supervisor of the control center. I was aware of the guidelines, one of which enabled me to fire off any ballistic missile if it was to bring the best possible outcome.”
I told her everything. The collapse, the riots, the take over. Everything on the oceans was dead. Most of the species on land, gone. We were now sheep in the middle of the wolf’s territory
So you thought that you could bring the barrier down with the missile? At what time did this happen?” the same persecutor asked.
I changed. I became a wolf like the rest of them and there was no end, no halt to our expansions. I became a wolf and joined the pack. We terrorised, for we were the wolfs of this new world. After all you will never see a wolf getting eaten by the sheeps. So I changed. I became the wolf.
But she didn’t.
The love of my love, the one that I spent nights firing our guns wildly into the night, totally cultivated by our animal and teenage spirit. She didn’t change. There was always something peculiar about her. She always had wild views, yet she always backed off when the time was needed to shine those views. She always had an opinion, yet she allowed herself to get bossed around by liars and con men. I couldn’t understand why.
“Yes, It was exactly for that reason. I launched the A.M.B.M. on October 28, 2045 in hopes of bringing down the barrier, enabling the world government to enter it. I had the best intentions in mind.”
We drew distant by the weeks and apathetic by the months. Our old love was now gone. Long gone were the nights of singing into the sunset about songs of peace and death. Long gone were the romance that held us together tighter then heart. Long gone were the sleeping together in the same old worn mattress, dreaming about heroes and conquests. Long gone were being burned by our emotions as we let out screams of joy and pleasure.
“And where you alone in the Torch Nest?”
Long gone was our ability to love. Long gone was our ability to hate.
“...Yes, I did it alone.”
We had lost our humanity.
