Prologue- Nightmareish Realities
My eyes shot open, my body drenched in a cold sweat. This wasn't the first time this happened. It's been happening for a while now, but it seems no one has noticed. I never remember what I dream about that has me so uneasy, waking up so afraid, but it happens several times every night.
This time, the sheets were tangled around my feet, my arms clutching a plush pegasus as if I'd die if I let it go. This time I remember the dream, but it wasn't scary. If anything, it was pleasant. I had turned into Nightmare Moon, but I woke up as I went to face the world. Now I lay here, staring at a beam of moonlight on a wall. I can't move, and sleep wishes to evade me yet again.
Tossing and turning leads to sitting upright just to find a comfortable position. I examined my arms. There were marks where I clawed at bug bites, the itching sensation driving me mad, and a cut where I'd been careless with a knife. My legs were the same, scratched and bit. I rubbed my eyes and stared back at the moonlight on the wall.
Suddenly, every muscle in my back screamed in pain, as if someone had put a heavy load on it. My forehead felt as if something sharp was pressing against it, a grinding sound coming from my jaw as it seemed to be shifting around. I wanted to scream in pain, but it was like my vocal chords were changing as well. My hands balled into fists and wouldn't release. I fell onto my side, shaking, tears refusing to fall. I can hide pain, but this was the worst I'd ever felt. Where was everyone?! Asleep, probably, it was most likely close to midnight. My teeth felt they were changing shape, my eyes like they were being pulled. I shut them tightly, hoping it would stop.
But that is too much to ask, isn't it? It wouldn't stop, it wouldn't even give me the grace of not being awake to feel it. My bed was shrinking, or otherwise I was growing. I could hear the seams on my clothes ripping, and I something else covering me, like a blanket.
Without warning, something pierced my head and my shoulders seemed to have been pulled back with the weight of something heavy, and the grinding noise stopped. Everything stopped. I hesitantly lifted my hand to touch my head, but instead of fingers I felt a hard, cup-like object.
Panic hit me like a tsunami as I opened my eyes, seeing a black hoof. I moved the oddly dextrous hoof up my face, and it hit a lump on my head. No, a lump would imply it was small, this... thing was long and skinny. I glanced up at it to the pain of my already-sore eyes. A horn, an elegant spiral from my forehead. What appeared to be the night sky gently flew around it. Not it wasn't the night sky, merely my mane. A glance at my hind legs showed my tail was the same way. Tracking up my side, there was a pair of leathery wings folded to my side. I already knew who and what I was, but two final details wouldn't hurt... right? My flank was covered in a purple blotch, a crescent moon smack-dab in the middle of it. I pushed myself into a sitting position rather awkwardly due to my new, different anatomy. I peeked into a mirror on the wall opposite me.
An ink-colored alicorn stared back at me with teary turquoise eyes, draconic pupils barely visible for being contracted in fear. I wanted to scream, cry, laugh evilly just to see if I had the voice.
Her voice.
Nightmare Moon's.
I looked at my hooves. They were untainted by the cuts I had, or they were not visible under the silken fur that covered me. I could still twist the hooves like my wrist, though. I even picked up a plushie with the base of my hoof. It was as if there was some partially dried glue on it, because the toy stuck, but just barely. I set it down and slipped onto the floor quietly. Learning to stand on all fours took a moment, but I mastered it. Silently walking was especially difficult, as the house seemed to want to scream out to everyone. Then I considered my height and size difference. I was much taller than before, probably six feet, not including my horn, and I probably weighed several hundred pounds should I be going by earth logic. It was a miracle my bed didn't break. I looked out the window, seeing the moon. My hooves itched, and I succumbed to the want to be near it. I trod carefully out of my room towards the front door, throwing caution out the window, as if the moon brainwashed me. I used my mouth to carefully open the door and slip out. My tail got caught, and after some tugging, a few strands were left behind.
I felt so free in the warm night air, and I just started running, my wings unfolding even though I could not yet fly. I ran faster and faster, my hooves picking up droplets from last night's rain. I ran faster and faster, never wanting to stop. As if I lost control of my body, I launched myself into the air. Whatever caused it suddenly vanished, and I flapped my wings desperately to keep from falling. I was absolutely horrified, but... I liked it. No, I loved it. I laughed, my first sounds. I only scared myself more. It wasn't my laugh. It was Her's.
I flew even faster, trying to escape myself.
You never seem to know how far you go when you're afraid, do you?
Chapter #1- Discussing Matters and Having Fun
In Canterlot Castle...
Princess Luna awoke with a start, her heart racing and her mind panicked. She had been peacefully asleep when she felt something being ripped from her. Not physically, but spiritually. The moon princess stumbled out of bed and flung open her door. She dashed through the sun-filled halls as she galloped towards her sister's throne room.
"Princess, is everything alright?" A guard asked her worriedly as she flew by.
"Indeed not!" Luna replied, not even slowing down. She finally stopped when she reached the tall doors that opened up into the grand throne room. She pushed them open and walked in.
Princess Celestia was shocked by her sister's unorderly appearance, sweating and mane ruffled.
"Luna, is everything okay?" Celestia asked, immediately climbing down and embracing her exhausted sister.
"No sister," Luna panted, "Something is horribly wrong."
"What is it?"
"Nightmare Moon has been detached from me."
***
I woke up, the sun's dying rays falling across my body.
"God, I didn't take a nap again, did I?" I asked myself, startled by the strange voice that exited my throat. Looking around, I wasn't in my room as I expected, but in a dense forest. Remembering everything, I covered my face and growled. Dragging my hooves down my face, I stared at the canopy. Little bits of light shone through, and they burned even though they were weak. Soon the moon would come back out and then I'd be horribly screwed. I had to remind myself I was Nightmare Moon again and that it was natural I slept through an entire day.
"So, where am I anyway?" I asked myself. I knew where I was. I was exactly south of somewhere, north of nowhere, east of everywhere and west of where everyone else is. But what I really needed was a map.
"C'mon Nightie, let's go." I told myself, standing up and choosing a random direction to walk.
"Don't call me Nightie." A voice hissed in my brain. I stood still, trembling like mad.
"W-who are you?" I called out, scared out of my mind.
"Nightmare Moon. I bonded my body with yours."
"Why would anyone do that?"
"I am going to take over the human world since Equestria failed miserably, and humans have weaker minds, so my victory is guaranteed."
"Well, Nightie, you're in for one heck of a ride."
"For the love of Faust, why did I choose this one?"
I just smiled and trotted through the dense undergrowth, knowing I'd have a fun time screwing with her.
***
"How could this have happened?" Celestia rubbed her temple, a cup of now-cold tea in front of her as she discussed the matter with her sister.
"I do not know, but as I recall, Nightmare Moon always sought independence." Luna explained, taking a ginger sip of her third cup. "However, she does not truly understand what it means to be independent, thus forcefully thrusting herself into the body of one who seeks the same."
"I thought Nightmare Moon was a part of you." The elder spoke, quite puzzled.
"Indeed, she is, was, but she merely usurped my body." The small blue alicorn answered, a dark look crossing her face as she remembered what happened that thousand-some years ago. "She remained in the darkest depths of my mind, hence why I could turn into her for Nightmare Night."
"Can you track her?"
"Possibly, but she is not like us. We are merely powerful, she is a goddess, and a corrupt one at that. She could reject both of our attempts to track her. She could have also gone to a different world, one where her magical signature would be untraceable."
"But we must try." Celestia urged her sister, nearly knocking over her tea as she slammed her hooves on the table.
"Indeed we must." Luna smiled weakly.
***
"Nightie."
...
"Nightie."
...
"Night-"
"WHAT?!"
"Can you read my mind?"
"Yes,"
"Is it disturbing?"
"Immensely."
So the immortal horse goddess of the moon who wishes to plunge every world into eternal darkness has took over my body and wishes to use it against earth. What do I do? Get the mental image of her in a bunny suit to mess with her.
"Stop."
Now she's singing the ABC's to watering cans while hopping over them.
"Stop."
"No."
"I AM NIGHTMARE MOON AND I COMMAND YOU TO STOP!"
...
"No."
"You insolent foal, do you know what I can do to you?"
"You can't even control the body, I am." Suddenly, my legs seized up. I started doing the chicken dance while cawing.
"Do we have a problem?"
"N-no!" I smirked, or rather she made me. I quickly moved through the forest, keeping silent and my mind clear. Pain erupted from my legs as I didn't have the armor, and my hooves were soft from never being used before.
"You are a wimp."
"What did you call me?" I asked, my voice dangerously low.
"A wimp, is that not what you are?"
I got a running start at a tree, using my wings to gallop up the trunk. I flipped upside down and plunged my horn right in the middle of a hoofprint I left on it.
"Oh. So you're not a wimp, you're an idiot."
"Eeyup!" I smiled, proud of myself. I tried to pull my horn out, but it was stuck.
"Are all humans like this?"
"Some are more stupid." I felt my hoof hit my face so hard I blacked out.
Chapter #2- Eavesdropping and Exploding Trees
"Are you dead?'
God, my head hurt.
"Aww, such a pity. But I kinda need you, so I guess it's not so bad."
"Shut up, Nightie." I could practically hear her fuming in the back of my mind. I crawled over by a stream nearby. I looked at my reflection through blurry eyes. My horn had long scratches all the way from the tip to the base, and a hoof-shaped bruise was on my right temple.
"How hard did you facehoof?" I whined, pulling my guilt-trip card.
"Not hard enough. You're still alive."
"You won't be able to do what you want without me. Anyone else would either kill themselves, get taken by the government, or do something else. I may be annoying, but at least I'm still somewhat your puppet." I spat at her, washing my face.
"So the idiot knows something."
"I may be stupid, but maybe that's what you need."
"I hate to admit it, but you're right." She paused. "Am I- am I screwed?"
"Very," I nodded, her sigh echoed in my brain.
"So be it. I will break you eventually, just like Luna." She made me recoil at my gasp.
"Tell me about Luna!"
"Fine. Once upon a time..."
***
Luna looked up, bits of paper on her face. She had been awake for forty-eight hours with Celestia trying to find Nightmare Moon.
"She's talking about us." The moon princess said hoarsely. Luna turned and looked at her elder sister, snoring loudly while fast asleep on a chair.
"TIAAAAAAAA!!!"
Celestia fell out of the chair, hitting the floor quite hard.
"Why? Why the Royal Canterlot Voice?" The white alicorn cried, massaging her poor ears.
"My apologies, sister, but I have important news." Luna said, quite excited.
"Well, what is it?" Celestia scrambled to her hooves, glee slowly showing through her tired eyes.
"Nightmare Moon is speaking of us. See, I was right to cast the charm on our names." The younger smiled smugly.
"What is she saying?" The sun mare asked impatiently.
Luna held up a red orb, her eyes closed with concentration. The orb repeated Nightmare Moon's every word.
"That filthy little-" Celestia hissed at the end of it.
"WAIT!! There is more!" Luna shushed her sister.
"How do you know so much of the Royal Sisters?"
"Wha-"
"SSHHH!"
"-and you're a part of it."
"Preposterous!"
"No! Really!"
"And they like LUNA more than me?!"
Luna snorted at the that.
"Not always, but some even like you more than Celestia!"
Luna bit her hoof as Celestia made a pouty face.
"Below me, in her proper place."
"Aww, don't be so tough on her. She may be a bit wacko, but only because you messed her up."
Celestia's eyes narrowed.
"Meh. Let's find food."
i"Okie,"
Luna fell backwards with exhaustion and laughed.
"Alright, so she is with someone who knows about us, so she's either in this world or one that knows of Equestria."
"You are a bit wacko, sister..." Luna's chest heaved as she tried to stop laughing. "And I am the more popular vote."
"Please, can we just get back to finding her?" The elder snapped.
***
I stared absentmindly into space, thinking of stuff.
"Stop it."
"What?"
"Thinking. Your thoughts disgust me."
"Too sweet?" I smiled smugly.
"Ugh, yes. And too... insane."
"Nightmare Moon?" She seemed shocked I didn't call her Nightie.
"Yes?"
"C-can you teach me magic? I mean, I know I'm stupid and really slow, but if you could even try, that'd be great. If I'm too annoying, just knock me out again." I could almost see her salivating over the thought of me letting her beat me up. NO WAIT DON'T THINK OF IT!
"I suppose..."
She gasped as I jumped up and tried to hug her, apparently forgetting she's in my mind.
"Just... don't be stupid."
***
Five exploded trees later, I managed to levitate a rock. At one point, Nightie had me pull our mane out, except it was kinda weird because our mane is a rapidly flowing replica of the night sky, complete with the strands of the universe... or something like that.
"H-how..." She gasped, dumbstruck at my epicness.
"I'm just that good." I smiled, blowing on my hoof.
"No. Just no." My hoof hit my head.
"Okay, I'm not used to magic. Like, at all. It doesn't exist here. Add the fact I'm an idiot, and you get-" I gestured to the trees. "But I really want to learn. I truly do. Please, be patient."
"Por qoi? And why?"
"First off, I'm the one who says that. Have you looked into my memories? And two, don't you need my help raising the moon? Didn't you say that with Luna?" I could hear her shaky sigh. Being manipulative pays off.
"Fine. FINE! Let's continue."
"YAY!"
I could hear her crying in the back of my mind as I blew up another tree.
Bonus Chapter- Painful Rain and Lonely Stars
Rain.
So much rain.
My legs shifted under my warm sheets, my torso stuck with sweat. My restless eyes watched the rain dribble down the window.
I miss the rain.
It was my only friend, the lonely nights.
Just watching the rain.
The rain let up and the stars came out.
Hello, little stars.
Please come here, I'd like to be your friend.
My head tilted a bit, trying to see the stars better from my bed.
Why do you look so sad, stars?
At least you are all together.
If you knew what it was like to be alone, you'd be glad.
My hand absent-mindedly stroked a pillow that had been pushed down by my side.
You have millions of years before you die.
I've never had a friend to spend more than a couple with me.
So, little stars, be happy.
I closed my eyes, pain welling in my heart.
And please send a message for me.
To whoever you think it belongs to.
I love you.
I turned away from the window, my face burrowed in my pillow as tears spilled out.
Chapter #3- Tracking and Tight Necklaces
The rain fell as I watched it curiously, my hooves folded in front of me.
"You were speaking to yourself last night. You were talking about the rain, and the stars."
"I tend to do that." I said quietly.
"You told the star to send a message."
"To who?"
"Whoever they thought it belonged to."
"What was the message?"
"That.. you loved somebody..."
I closed my eyes, forcing myself not to think of anything.
"You're lonely, aren't you?"
"I am alone, not lonely." I answered the curious mind-mare.
"Do you miss someone?"
"Yes, I miss a lot of people. That doesn't mean anything." I laid my head on my hooves, watching the little drops fall down. We had been traveling for several days, and it had taken it's toll on me. Although my hooves finally hardened, scars remained on the bottom of them. Slashes across my body where plants mercilessly scratched with their thorns. The worst wound of all, my heart was heavy with a longing to go back. Not just back home, but back to my memories, back when everything was okay.
"But not everything was okay was it?"
If she was a physical being, I wouldn't face her. But she was in my mind, only appeared when I imagined her.
"What wasn't okay?"
And then, I snapped.
"Why would YOU want to know? So you can find my weak spot and break me later on? Why not just look in my freaking
memories? Besides, what is the troubles of one teenage girl that concerns a friggin GODDESS?!" I screeched, my ears flat against my head. I could feel my skull throbbing, and I ran out from beneath the trees cover, into the rain. Nightmare Moon caught control of my legs by the time I splashed into a river.
"I do not wish to intrude on your memories."
"Then how did you know?"
"I can see your thoughts, and read your emotions."
I took a deep breath, and slowly looked at my reflection below. The water was just calming down around my legs, and the rain was letting up. The mare in the water beneath me was the exact same as in the mirror, if only more weary and tired. Only when my mental demon spoke did I realize something was different.
"Why do you wear the mark of Loyalty?"
I did a double-take. Around my neck was a tri-colored lightning bolt around a rainbow cord.
"When did I put on a necklace?" I asked, my voice probably more grave than I intended.
"You were always wearing it."
"It's so tight, why did I not notice it?"
"It's easy to ignore what we do not search for."
I stroked the charm with one hoof, closing my eyes, not letting the tears fall.
"What does it mean to you."
A lot, but she'll have to look into my memories to find out the truth.
"Nothing, it's just a cheap charm on a cord. If it means anything, it's that it's the only thing that binds me to sanity, makes me remember I'm human in this godforsaken world." I gave a dangerous smile. "But I'm not human, am I?"
I swear if we were in separate bodies, Nightie would be backpedaling so fast right now. In one swift movement, I reached up and went to pull the cord off my neck, except she froze all my muscles.
"DON'T! I'm so sorry!"
A loud laugh erupted from my mouth, but it wasn't Nightmare Moon's. At least, not evil like her's. It was amusement from a prank gone right.
"God, you're so gullible. I would never break this old thing." I chuckled, my amused smile as wide as my face.
"You..." A scowl replaced my smile before I burst out laughing again.
"Yes, me, deal with it, Nightie."
***
Luna levitated the red orb, staring at it from all directions.
"Come on, little Searcher. Show us where she is." The moon princess coaxed it. "Show us where Nightmare Moon is."
"Luna, there is something that confuses me." Celestia said, staring out a window, taking a mental break from the stress of finding a corrupt goddess.
"Take a rest, little Searcher." The younger whispered to the ball, setting it down before turning to her sister. "And what is that, Celestia?"
"I know Nightmare Moon was talking to someone else, but they had nearly identical voices."
"Nearly?" Luna questioned, a quizzical expression on her face.
"The true Nightmare Moon's voice was... angry."
"T'was not! If anything she seemed amused."
"No, I mean just the feeling you got when she spoke. No matter what tone she took, she just seemed infuriated at
something." Celestia explained, feeling a headache from her tiredness. "The other sounded more youthful, almost mortal."
The white alicorn continued on, "One who has seen things, always has something on her mind. Questioning the universe around her, frustrated with her seemingly simple mind although it is more complex than she knows."
"And she knows pain." Luna cut in, closing her eyes. "Much pain, and she knows how to hide it. She wants to feel loved, and she knows she is, but her mind haunts her, tells her she isn't. She knows many tears, she knows the feeling of having to run, and she knows she wants what she can never have."
Celestia put a hoof around her sister, pulling her close.
"If Nightmare Moon bonded to her, she now has the power to make her deepest desire come true." The dark princess leaned into her sister. "But is she foolish enough to do it? And disrupt the flow of life? Will she reveal herself to get it sooner?"
"So we must find her before she does." Celestia asked, pulling away from the embrace.
"Indeed. And we must do it quickly, if she is mortal like we think, she may do it without much thought." Luna nodded, picking up the Searcher again.
***
I sucked on a raspberry, the tart juice making me pucker slightly.
"What now?"
"Up ta' ya." I said, not caring about grammar.
"Ugh, you sound like what's-her-name, Honestjack or whatever. The hillfilly."
"'Ey, don't knock Applejack. She'll buck you into next Autumn." I spat out a seed, my eyes narrowed.
"Whatever... I know."
"What?" My eyes shimmered as I awaited her plan.
"Let's find..."
***
Celestia shot awake, her eyes bloodshot and her ear twitching. The Searcher was going wild in her hooves.
"Luna, come here." She said with a sense of urgency. "It knows where she is."
"Where?" The smaller said, bounding over. "Where is Nightmare Moon?"
"A place called... Earth." Celestia's brow furrowed. "Where is that?"
"The only record of a place called that is that is what Smart Cookie wanted to name Equestria." Luna shook her head, the lack of sleep attacking her mind. "So that means..."
"We must find it. I doesn't seem to be in Equestia though."
"Well then, we must work faster."
Chapter #4- Good Intentions and Good Apples
My legs felt like glass as I shuffled through a grove of fruit trees. My stomach hurt so much as I thought of all the hatred for myself and regret of everything I did sloshed around inside my gut. Or maybe the pain was just from hunger.
Yeah, hunger.
I pulled an apple off a tree and delicately munched it. My eyes shot open then closed as I savored the juicy, sweet fruit. After finishing that one, which didn't take long, I grabbed more and more. One by one, the apples were plucked from the branches, and their cores left scattered on the ground.
"Wait a second, did I just eat some guy's livelyhood?" I gulped, the tasty morsels turning bitter in my mouth.
"Look around," Nightie spoke, turning my head to view the rest of the fields. "There are countless orchards of numerous fruit. I doubt he'll miss a few apple trees.
"I-I guess," I said, forced myself to look at something else.
My ears perked as the sound of footsteps hit my ears.
"You hear that?" Nightie asked, and I nodded. I took off at a moderate jog away from the trees. The footsteps only got faster, so I did, as well.
"Which one of you young whippersnappers been eatin' my apples ag'in?" An older man yelled out. Moony's whispered thought hit my brain.
"Run,"
I went into a full-out gallop, spreading my wings to take flight when
BANG.
Well... that hurt.
***
Luna's eye twitched, bloodshot and crusted slightly at the lid.
"C-Cele-t-a..." She croaked, her hooves moving through wads of paper.
"Hmmm, Woona?" Celestia looked at her younger sister from above her forelegs.
"Night... Moo... is hu... rrr..." Luna collasped, completely unconcious. Celestia rushed over to the smaller, mustering the last of her own energy to pick up the exhausted alicorn and rush to the royal doctor.
***
One of the nurses, a white unicorn with a red mane walked over to Celestia, who stood up immediately.
"How is she, is she okay?" The frantic elder asked, scrambling to get past the nurse. She was too tired to do much when the nurse merely pushed her down with a single hoof. "Please tell me LuLu is okay."
"She is fine, your highness, merely sapped of energy. You two have been working far too hard. Princess Luna is stable, and we are making sure she is comfortable as she sleeps the stress and tiredness off. I advise you do the same." The unicorn said, her voice calming.
"No! Nightmare Moon must be caught as soon as possible!" Celestia yelled in the nurse's face, who barely flinched.
"Which you cannot do if exhausted. Now sleep, and I will not tell you twice." The nurse pointed towards Celestia's bedchambers. Celestia groaned and complied. As she walked she realized what she was doing. She glanced at the unicorn, who looked so much like her mother that she had to listen.
"Mom..."
***
I woke up in a pile of hay, which was surprisingly comfortable. I looked around and saw a thin old man with a short white beard.
"So, yer the rascal who ate my apples." He said, chuckling. "A unicorn. Yer not a bad one, are ya'?"
I just stared, not wanting to answer.
"Say, yer mane is mighty pretty." He held it as it flowed like water. He took out a pocket knife and cut off a bit, which made me flinch. The rest of my mane continued to flow around the slash, making it impossible to know where it was cut. The lock he had fell limp, but was still beautiful.
"Oh, girl, yer gonna make up fer all those apple trees ya' ate."
Oh... dear...
Chapter #5- Time for Action and Time for Tears
I was silently sobbing into my own hooves. I fuck everything up. Everything. I think Nightie went somewhere, I can't even summon her by thinking of her.
I'm just... alone right now. I piss everyone off. Even the little pony in my head doesn't want to be near me. Figures.
The tears slid down my face and onto my legs, leaving wet trails in the black, silken fur. I sniffled, the waterfall never stopping. I don't even know how long I was here. I want to be away. I want to be outside. I want... I want to be home. But I pissed off everyone there, too. I pissed off everyone I care for. Who's not pissed at me? I'm even pissed at me.
I hate being emo.
I finally stemmed the flow of tears, standing up and walking over to a cracked, dirty, long mirror, staring at the beautiful mare who's body housed the stupid me. I looked at the mare in the mirror, noticing my mane was now closer to a bob, seeing as the man had cut nearly all of it off, getting a lot of money for the locks of my mane. Nightmare Moon's mane. Fuck, I can't even be in my own body. I wasn't even crying my own tears.
"I fucking hate you, you little bitch, E-" I can't even bring myself to say it. That name, the name I hate the most. I can't say my own name. My throat twisted into a knot, burning, then the tears starting falling again. I drove my front hoof through my damned reflection, shattering the mirror. My face felt hot, and the numbness in my hoof turned into a pain like I'd never felt. I wanted to scream out, but I couldn't even bring myself to do that. Blood streamed out from several gashes, shards of glass all over my silky black limb.
And then I felt someone removing the glass while stroking my chest. My eyes blurred, I peered into the mirror again. Nightie was controlling m- her hoof to pet my throat and chest, and using magic to remove the shards and close the wounds. She had a small smile through the wetness. I added to that smile, even if it was miniscule.
"I know how you feel." She whispered into my brain once my hoof was healed.
"N-no one does..." I choked out, losing the smile.
"Maybe not. But I can try." She tried to force the smile back, but I resisted, my head hanging instead.
I whimpered, ears flopped against my head, but she kept stroking.
"Why are you sad, my little dearest?" Her tone was worried. I was too sad to notice her being affectionate.
"B-because... I can never go home..." I sat on my rump, using my free hoof to wipe away the tears.
"I promise, once I'm done with you, you can go home." She cooed softly.
"N-no! You d-don't underst-st-stand!" I coughed, my wings flared. "I c-can't go back because ev-everyone hates m-me!"
"Shh, I doubt they hate you."
"Th-they do! M-my own m-mother told me I'd become a f-fucking druggie!" Nightie seemed a bit taken aback that I cussed. Or maybe because of my mother's prohecy. Or both. Heh, I'm trapped in a guy's shed because I'm a black alicorn with a starry mane, which he's cutting off and selling, who also has a demon in her mind trying to bring eternal night, which is a villian from a children's show about goddamn pastel ponies. How sure am I that I'm not on acid?
"Oh, but mothers are like tha-"
"NO, THEY'RE FUCKING NOT!" I screamed, my throat hoarse.
"Shhhh, little one."
"N-no one cares..." I whispered, a trail of snot running down my nostril. "I p-pissed off the only one who ever l-loved me..."
"Trust me, someone cares." Nightie forced me to look into the largest shard, which had landed directly in front of me.
"I don't even care about myself." I choked out, trying to look away.
"No, little one," Nightie said, "You don't have to."
"Then who cares?"
"Me."
***
Luna opened her eyes, finally awaking. She groaned, however, when she noticed she was in an empty, black abyss, filled with mist.
"Thou hath brought thee to thou realm, night demon, what doth thou want?" Luna cried out into the emptiness. From the swirling mist, Nightmare Moon walked out, fully clothed in her armor.
"I want you to know that you were fun when we were together, I mean it, I really mean it, but I found another lonely little filly to befriend. So, I guess this is goodbye, Luna." Nightmare Moon said, patting the blue alicorn on the head before turning to walk away.
"Thy shalt not let thou escape and corrupt another innocent soul! Tell thee, Nightmare Moon, where is thou latest victim located?" Luna snarled, her wings flared as she caught the larger of the two in her magic.
"Ooh, Luna, you already know. I know you know." The black mare easily wiggled out of the younger's relatively weak magic. "She's on Earth, somewhere you cannot get to. Besides she needs me. Have you not seen into her mind?"
Nightmare Moon laughed for a moment. "Oh, of course you haven't! I forgot, we're not one anymore. However, I am so very close to it with the other. You see, we're in one body, but when she finally accepts, we will be bonded until she dies. Which I won't let happen. She's just too much fun."
"How old is thou victim this time?" The blue one asked, still in a defensive position.
"Oh, thirteen, fourteen at the most." Nightmare Moon looked at her boot.
"So thou is choosing one from an uneasy age? Thou cheat, Nightmare."
"Heh, nothing is easy, from what she's told me. She's about as messed up as you were."
"THOU HAD LOST THY PARENTS, COLTFRIEND, AND BEST FRIENDS!" Luna screeched, losing it just as Nightmare had hoped. "OF COURSE THY WAS MESSED UP!"
Suddenly, a loud, heartfelt scream of sadness echoed through the mist.
"She's upset! So sorry to cut our little visit short, but she needs me right now." Nightmare said, opening her leathery wings.
"No! Thy shall lock thou in thy mind if thou tries to hurt her more!" Luna's horn lit up, but Nightmare Moon had pushed herself into the air.
"No, I really have to go. DAMMIT, she hurt herself. I really must go!" And with that, the demon flew into the mist, and Luna woke up for real in a hospital bed. It had been the real Nightmare Moon, Luna was positive, but when she spoke about the girl being sad and hurt... why did Nightmare look worried?

"WHAT?!"
Celestia jaw dropped when Luna told her of her talk with Nightmare Moon.
"A-are you sure it wasn't just an exhausted dream?" The white alicorn asked.
"Thy art certain, sister." Luna said, looking out the window, into the distance. It was late at night, but neither sister cared. "And the worst part... the victim is but a child, this makes the whole ordeal all the more dangerous."
"No... no... she wouldn't..." Celestia hit herself a couple times. "Even you were technically in adulthood when Nightmare Moon corrupted you..."
"This child, though. Whilst thy was speaking to Nightmare Moon, the child had screamed as if she was sad and in pain. Not physical pain, but emotional." The blue mare finally averted her eyes, staring at her hooves. "Thy wonder why. The Nightmare said the child is in as much agony as thy was, but then again, she might have lied."
"When should we initiate a search party?" Celestia asked, putting her hoof on her sister's.
"Immediately."

Dearest Twilight Sparkle,
As you may or may not have known, Nightmare Moon has been torn from my sister, and has inhabited the mind of a teenaged filly from a place called "Earth". From what Nightmare Moon has hinted to Luna, the filly is in much grief and therefore not only is she much more susceptible to being corrupted, but due to her young age, she may also inadvertantly abuse her newfound powers should Nightmare allow it. We are counting on you to pinpoint exactly where the Nightmare and her victim are so we can try to save the filly and lock the Nightmare away face-to-face. The fate of not only Equestria and Earth, but the poor victim, lay in your hooves.

Twilight read the letter over several times. The lavender unicorn finally looked up from the paper to the group of five mares and a purple drake sitting around her eagerly awaiting news.
"Nightmare Moon has been ripped from Princess Luna." The mare said plainly, holding her hoof up so nopony would intterupt her. "Her host is a young teenage filly in a place called "Earth". This apparently is not in Equestria, possibly not even on the planet of Gaia. It's up to me to find her."
"Wait a moment," A cyan pegasus with striking magenta eyes and a scruffy rainbow mane spoke up. "Can life exist on other planets than Gaia?"
"Theoretically, yes," Twilight said, adjusting a pair of specticals on the tip of her velvety muzzle. "Earth might even be in another galaxy, or even universe."
"Now how in the buck would Nightmare Moon escape Princess Luna's body and world-jump?" The rainbow mare asked again.
"She's a goddess, Rainbow Dash, what do you think?" Twilight stared at Rainbow Dash, who cowered a bit.
"So, what are you going to do, Twilight dear?" Rarity, an elegant alabaster unicorn with a curled purple mane, asked the bookish mare.
"I am going to find Nightmare Moon, no matter how long it takes, or how hard it is." Twilight replied, determination in her purple eyes. "Because a lot of ponies are in danger... and whatever might be on Earth."

It was thundering, but I wasn't scared. I was never scared of thunder or lighting, I actually loved it. I was, however, still sad. I reflected on what Nightie had said. That I didn't need to be there for myself, because she would be. I wondered for a moment if that's what she told Luna. But, as soon as the thought came, it vanished like it was a whisper I didn't care to listen to.
Then, I just cried.
God, that never happens unless I'm seriously stressed. Then again, I kind of was.
"Do you want me to sing you a lullaby?" Nightie asked gently, almost motherly.
"I... n- actually, yes. Please, could you?" I replied, just like a little kid. I just needed someone to comfort me, and maybe, just maybe, Nightie could do that for me right now.
Before she even started, an odd feeling rushed over my coat, like electricity or something.
"Come to me, children, and follow my way,
Into the world of darkness and magic.
With all my power,
I'll show you the way.
To all your dreams,
Hopes,
And illusions."
The electric feeling once again rushed over my coat, making me shudder.
A clap of thunder roared through the sky as Nightie hummed to the tune of the song. I heard branches falling, and I would have been a bit skittish if not for the goddess singing to me.
"Come to me, children, and follow my way,
Into the world of darkness and magic.
With all my power,
I'll show you the way.
To all your dreams,
Hopes,
And illusions."
I could feel my eyelids drooping as she sang the same words again. I didn't care, I was exhausted, and I wanted to sleep before tomorrow came. She hummed again, a mental fog overtaking me before she spoke softly in a sing-song voice.
"Darkness.
Magic.
Power."
I was almost gone.
"Dreams.
Hopes.
Illusions."
The electric feeling.
"Come to me, children, and follow my way,
Into the world of darkness and magic.
With all my power,
I'll show you the way.
To all your dreams,
Hopes,
And illusions."
The feeling for the last time before...
I...
Fell...
Asleep.
Chapter #6- Dreaming and Daring
It was dark, but it was not too dark to see that I was surrounded by trees. I was in a clearing in a forest. I stood up shakily, my legs sore and weak. I looked around again, trying to see if there was any other life. Seeing nothing, I stretched my back out and started walking. I could have been wandering for mere seconds or years, my sense of time horribly warped, when I stumbled upon a shaking, furry figure.
I walked forward with reckless abandon. I had the power of a god, literally. Nothing could hurt me. Right? I walked closer, the figure cowering and whimpering. I finally realized it was a she-wolf. The closer I got, the closer to the ground she pressed herself.
"Hey, hey, I'm not gonna hurt you." I said gently, holding a hoof out. She came forward and looked me in the eye. Her eyes were hazel, her fur a darkish brown. I went to pet her, but she snarled. I jumped back instinctively, and she lurched at my chest. I unfolded my wings hurriedly, about to jump into the safety of the air, when two more wolves ambushed me. Each took a single wing in their jaws. My head whipped back and forth looking at the two holding me down. The thin, leathery skin over the frame of my wings were torn and bleeding furiously. I had completely forgotten the wolf in front of me. She sprung forward, white teeth bared in the moonless night, and sunk them deep into the flesh above my heart. I screamed, trying to bat her off, but the pain was too great for me to focus enough to cast a spell.
The hazel-eyed she-wolf pulled back, ripping every layer of fur, skin, flesh, and muscle away from my body. I howled in agony, to the point of my throat about to bleed. My bare ribcage was there, my lungs and heart visible. I couldn't do anything, I was paralyzed, and she went for it.
The next thing I knew, my heart was in the jaws of the she-wolf, my ribs on the ground, shattered.
I was breathing incredibly hard, but I wasn't dead. Why wasn't I dead?! I could still feel my heart beating a foot away from the cavity where it was meant to be. I wind blew past me, hitting my raw insides. I shoved my hoof into the bloody hole to seal it up.
I stared into those savage hazel eyes, and saw something so familiar. Any tears that were going to fall disappeared. I can't cry, not in front of those eyes.
A silver blur knocked the she-wolf over, and the two wolves holding my wings tore away, ripping off whatever was left. The fled into the night, but the silver thing didn't care.
It was a large wolf, his fur the color of polished silver. He stood over the she-wolf snarling and growling. The she-wolf clamped her teeth down on my heart, earning a loud sob from me. The silver wolf starting biting and clawing at her, but she fought back ferociously. The silver wolf closed his jaw on her ear, his claws on her face. He tore her ear off and scratched out her eyes, yet the she-wolf never let go of my heart.
She flipped him over, her paw on his muzzle, pressing down as if to break it. He beat her over the head with his free paw, catching his claws in her flesh. The she-wolf retracted for a second, buying the silver wolf time to jump on her back, grabbing her by the scruff of her neck and shaking her like a ragdoll. The she-wolf threw him off, and he landed with a thump in the dirt. She turned to me, her ruined hazel eyes murderous and beastly, my blood and her blood and the silver wolf's blood on her fur.
From behind, the silver wolf slammed his body into her's, and she fell. Before she could make any move, the silver wolf locked his teeth into her throat, and I heard him crush her trachea in his mouth.
Limping, he gently picked up my heart in his mouth, still beating, and trotted over to me. For the first time, I noticed a blue shimmer ran over his fur when he moved, and he had brown eyes.
I held my hoof out again, this time covered in blood from holding my chest. He sped up, pressing his nose against it. He dropped my heart in front of me, sitting down and licking his wounds. I forced a simple telekinesis spell to pick up the bloody organ, and placed it inside my body. The silver wolf looked up, and leaned forwards. His tongue ran across where the flesh would have been, and where his tongue touched, my body rebuilt. I gasped, not only from that, but that the color of my magic turned from midnight blue to a soft orange.
Suddenly, I uttered a cry as what felt like my bones meshing together shot through my skeleton. I think I was getting smaller, and my wings had melted back into my body. The swirling nebula that I called my mane turned a different kind of shiny, and fell limp, not moving. My pupils dilated, but lost their see-in-the-dark-ness, and my teeth were no longer pointed fangs.
I collapsed in the dirt, sobbing. The silver wolf curled against me, licking the tears off my cheek.
When it finally stopped, I reached out and stroked his head, noticing we were the same size, running my hoof over his right ear. It flopped with the motion of the pet, and sprung back when I removed my hoof. I had left a streak of blood, but neither of us cared. I threw my hooves around his neck, pressing my face against his, hugging myself into his fur. I noticed that his eyes, unlike the other wolves, had a... human-esque quality. They were filled with such emotion and understanding, I couldn't believe it was merely a beast. But, like with the she-wolf, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I'd seen those eyes before.
I closed mine, tired from all the pain I had to endure. I could feel him press his nose against mine, but it wasn't a wet wolf-nose, it was soft yet firm, like velvet stretched thin against foam. I felt something on my lips, something, like the nose, soft yet firm, but a different kind. I knew the feel. I liked it. Without thinking, I kissed back.
I slowly opened my eyes, wanting to see, but when I opened them, there was nothing.
Nothing at all.
