Anti-Equestria
Chapter 1: Prologue: The Mirror
Twilight Sparkle shut her door with a sigh. Relief enveloped her and a smile spread across her face as she heard the most wonderful sounds from outside the library.
Her five friends were happy - and incredibly normal. Pinkie Pie was laughing and sharing a joke with Rainbow Dash; Fluttershy, Rarity and Applejack were quietly conversing; Equestria was back in balance.
How incredibly disturbing yesterday had been. Discord rampaging through Equestria and causing chaos every which way. This frightening creature had nearly broken apart the most incredible friends - and Twilight Sparkle had almost let him. It had been earlier today when Princess Celestia had held a ceremony in their honor, and the purple pupil had gotten to relate her letter to her teacher personally.
"My Dearest Princess; I have learned something incredibly important. This is that friendship isn't easy, and there will be many people who want to break apart your friendship. But those relationships that you have made are just too important to let go because of arguments or pain."
Yes, Twilight had learned a lot. But although she usually enjoyed learning, this adventure had taken its toll on her, and she needed some rest.
Softly trotting to the second floor of her cozy home, Twilight saw her young friend, Spike, cuddled into a ball and snoring softly on his bed. She nuzzled him lovingly. What would I ever do without my friends? she thought to herself.
Twilight Sparkle then began her nightly routine of preparing for sleep; she first brushed her teeth while reciting in her mind the fifty-five rules of magical conduct. Next she cleansed her face with a warm, damp rag, wiping away the day's worries. She then took her hairbrush, and went over to her mirror to untangle her mane once more before bed, when she noticed something odd.
The mirror she usually used to inspect herself had been replaced. The new one was full-length and ornate, and incredibly haunting for no particular reason. Who could have done this, I wonder? Twilight mused. She set down her hairbrush on a stool next to the mirror, and slowly drew closer to the object.
It was entrancing, really. Twilight could not remember a time when she had been so awed by her own appearance. It was her reflection... but it wasn't her. Her heart skipped a beat.
Suddenly, two pony arms reached out from inside the mirror and pulled her in! Twilight yelled out, closing her eyes tightly. The sensation of going through the mirror was mortifying - unlike anything she had felt before. Her head spun, her body seeming as if it would rip apart at the seems at any moment. Her ears rang, and her soul hollowed out in fear. There was a large thud as her body struck down onto hard, cold matter.
When her eyes opened, Twilight Sparkle found herself in a dark meadow, stars dotting the sky above. In front of her was what seemed to be an open window, remaning there in thin air. On the other side of this window was a mare that looked exactly like her... standing right where she had been moments ago.
"Who... who are you?!" Twilight Sparkle cried out.
The purple mare opposite her gave a malicious grin, "Who am I? I am you! Twilight Sparkle."
Twilight couldn't understand. "Where am I? What have you done?"
"I was growing tired of my existence in the world in which you now stand. So now I have a whole new dimension to conquer!" explained the unicorn, leaning forward.
Twilight leaped towards the portal, only to find that it was as impenetrable as glass. "Undo whatever you have done, now!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible," replied Twilight's copy. "Enjoy your stay in the Land of Discord... or as you might like to call it, 'Anti-Equestria'!"
