1. Prologue: The Hunt Begins
Hey, guys. I'm back with another fanfic. This is the second part of my Legend of Zelda/MLP crossover. Sorry for the really long wait, you guys. But, I'm here with that now. First up, we've got the prologue. Enjoy.
"This day has been just perfect." the new queen of Equestria smiled down at her new kingdom from her balcony.
The changelings had just finished tearing down all that resembled Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor, Discord, and Twilight Sparkle. In their place, changelings had placed statues and tapestries of their new leaders, Chrysalis and Tirek.
The city of Canterlot was immediately washed over in a sea of flames. The homes and livelihood of ponies, mules, and griffons had been burned down to ash. Soon, the changelings would replace them with homes of their own, made of the most repulsive ooze.
The sound of prisoners' chains could be heard jingling in the air. Ponies, griffons, and mules alike had been chained from neck to hoof and claw. Rows upon rows of prison lines all could be seen going to the castle, which seemed darker than before.
Changelings, moblins, skeletal ponies, and trolls had marched through the streets, searching for any more ponies, and their treasures to claim for the new king and queen.
As Chrysalis took in a deep breath, breathing in the smell of burning wood. Her ears were savoring the sound of hard, cold metal rattling from her prisoners. Her mouth watered for the taste of pony love, still lingering between the loved ones imprisoned together.
Suddenly, her ears twitched as her king, Tirek, came into her room.
"It's rude to barge in on a lady, you know?" Chrysalis hissed.
"My apologies, Chrysalis. But, I've come to tell you. The spell is all but ready. All we need now is your magic." said Tirek.
"Ah, yes. Let's get on with it." said Chrysalis, rolling her eyes.
Inside the throne room, it had undergone the most biggest of changes to the castle. Blood-red curtains draped from the windows. The marble pillars, walls, and floors were all a sickly grey, instead of a beautiful, sparkling pearl color. The thrones were a black, thorny color and display, with orange and green orbs shown on the top of the backrests of the thrones.
The tinted windows that displayed the heroics by the Elements of Harmony and the leaders of Equestria had been broken, and replaced with more terrifying images. The windows displayed Canterlot on fire, the fall of Prince Shining Armor by Dark Link's hands, and the rise of Chrysalis and Tirek to power.
In the middle of the room, a large cauldron, bubbling a sickly, glowing green lay in wait to conjure up a dark spell. From Tirek's hand, a strand of Link's hair was in his claw. Tirek dropped the hair into the cauldron, then he and Chrysalis cut themselves on their arm, letting a drop of blood drop fall into the cauldron. Chrysalis added a ball of green magic light into the mix, along with Tirek, adding a magic energy ball of orange.
"Now, Dark Link! Rise once more!" Chrysalis called out loud.
From the cauldron, a dark hand shot out, followed by a dark figure, crawling out of the cauldron, and it fell to the floor. The dark figure huffed and panted, as he stood up, and wiped the slime of his clothes.
"I feel like a million rupees." Dark Link chuckled, then bowed. "Queen Chrysalis, King Tirek. I remove my hat to you."
"Please, save your flattery, little shadow." said Tirek. "Just remember, every time we use this spell, it depletes a great amount of magic. So, this'll be the only time we bring you back to life. I don't want to waste any more of the precious power we took from all those ponies and princesses on you. Understood?"
"Loud and clear, sir." said Dark Link, as he looked at his blank hand. "But, why didn't the triforce piece be brought back to me?"
"It returned to it's original owner, the real Link. You'll have to get that on your own. Can't expect your new king and queen to do everything. Now, can we?" said Tirek.
"Yessir." said Dark Link.
"I think you'll be pleased to hear you'll get your chance, right away." said Chrysalis.
"If the triforce piece is gone, it means it's owner, Link, is still alive. Track him down, and finish him. But, you have another task to complete. The princesses and their followers have now cornered themselves in the Everfree Forest. But, we can't reach them, due to another of that despicable Discord's tricks. Go to the edge of the forest, and break down that barrier. Have every last moblin and troll dig deep down in the ground, a hundred feet in the dirt, to pull out the roots if it's to work."
"As you say, it shall be done, m'lady." Dark Link bowed. "If I may be so bold to ask, I send a good number of them to find Mr. Real Boy across every direction of the land. I don't wish to waste a precious second of finding him."
"Of course. Revenge has always been on the top of our lists." said Tirek, grinning widely.
"I will not fail you again, my excellencies." said Dark Link, bowing again before disappearing into thin air.
Chrysalis sighed contently, the thought of finally being rid of those irksome ponies and their princesses filled her mind, as she joined Tirek on their thrones.
"Isn't this grand, Tirek? We have those powerless ponies backed into a corner. The hero of Hyrule is nowhere to be found. So long as he doesn't reunite with his friends, I foresee no problem with him. All of Equestria will be ours." Chrysalis cackled.
"Today, Equestria. How about tomorrow, Hyrule? You brought it up, and I just love giving those high-and-mighty hylians, mere mortals that think they deserve to have such a close bond with deities, a taste of what real power is." said Tirek.
"Ooh, someone's getting antsy to expand our empire." Chrysalis swooned. "Chalk that up for the reasons why I freed you, and made you my king. But, patience. Conquering, expanding our rule, and ruling with an iron hoof takes time. Lucky for us, we have all the time in the world."
"That we do, my love bug." said Tirek, as he and Chrysalis leaned in for a kiss.
Thunder and lightning crashed outside. The sounds of chains, whips, screams, and houses burning grew louder, ringing out to let everypony know Equestria's first day of doom had just dawned upon the kingdom. Yet, a day would eventually come filled with hope. A day where Equestria would know love and peace, once more. But, that day still seemed so far away to many, as far as their hope, Link was from where he needed to be.
...
Princess Zelda, dressed in a sheikah cloak, paced back and forth from where she stood in front of the mirror. Suddenly, Impa came to her side, out of nowhere. Behind her was Malon, bow and quiver on her back, and Epona.
"I've brought them, like you requested, princess." said Impa, bowing before her princess.
"Princess Zelda, this is an honor." said Malon, bowing just like Impa.
"I'm so glad you could come, Malon. Link's told me a lot about you and Epona, of course." said Zelda.
"You would not believe what your bodyguard had to do to sneak a filly in the royal castle, your highness." said Malon, giggling.
"If we can get to the matter at hand, ladies." said Impa.
"Yes. Malon, you, me, Impa, and Epona here must go on a journey to find and aid Link in his mission." said Zelda. "Where we'll be going, I imagine Epona will play a big role in it, too."
"Pardon me, your highness. But, what kind of place is this? What exactly happened to Fairy-boy?" asked Malon.
"I'm not sure. I've tried to reach him, telepathically, but my link to him has been greatly severed." said Zelda. "I have to go to him, and make sure he's okay. He's helped my country, my family. Now, I must do the same."
"Well, how do we get there?" asked Malon.
"Through there." Zelda said, pointing to the mirror.
"Come, we mustn't waste time." said Impa, as she, the girls, and Epona jumped through the portal. They could only hope they'd warp somewhere close to Link, hopefully...
Well, guys. That's it for the prologue. I know it's not much, but this is just to build up on what's to come next on this crossover. Next chapter, we'll get to see how Link and the others are faring. Also, I might try to work Epona into the story, but somewhere later on in future chapters.
I'm sure you're wondering why Malon and Epona are gonna appear in this. Well, Malon does live on a ranch, surrounded by equines. Epona is an equine. So, putting them in a world where equines talk and have their own kingdom, I'm sure they'd feel right at home. Also, since Malon is a counterpart to Romani, she's gonna help Link on his quest with some fine archery skills. Also, yes, Epona will talk.
I own nothing, except a few OC's that'll appear later on in the story. All rights go to original owners. No copyright intended. Thanks. Stay tuned for more of this crossover fanfic.
2. Chapter 1: Canine Hospitality
Hey, guys. I'm back with the next chapter. Not much to write down except, please enjoy.
Link awoke the next day, Navi right beside his pillow. Link took in his surroundings of the room Ruby offered to him and Spike. Link looked to see the dragon hadn't awoken yet, either. Looking out the window, Link could see the entire cave city of the Diamond Dogs. From what he saw, any rupee collector would have a field day here.
The city was interesting, to say the least. Some of the houses were tunnels in the in the wall, with doors and windows on them, much like Ruby's home. Some were made from giant crystal stalagmites. Diamond dogs could be seen wheeling wagons full of various gems, guards were patrolling with crystal spears, and puppies were eating smaller crystals from a bag, like they were rock candy.
The door creaked, and in stepped Ruby.
"How are you feeling this morning, Link?" asked Ruby.
"Better, Mrs. Ruby." said Link, hopping out of bed.
"Good." said Ruby.
Link noticed that Ruby had her fingers tipped with blood, and she was cleaning it off with a towel. Link knew that blood belonged to Flurry Heart, and his good mood was dimmed.
"Well, Mrs. Ruby? Is she gonna be okay? How was she this morning?" asked Link.
Ruby sighed, a dark look on her face.
"From what you told me, the barbarian who did this really knew where to cut." she said.
"I got her cleaned up, used the strongest fabric I have to stop her bleeding, for now. She'll recover, but the orbitals were cut deep. When her eyes have healed, her sight won't. She'll be blind. There's nothing more I can do. I'm sorry, but I've done all I can."
"At least... she'll get better. Thank you, ma'am." said Link, sadly.
"Of course, Link." said Ruby.
"How am I gonna explain this to Twilight and Cadence?"
Link and Ruby turned to see Spike was already awake, and getting out of bed. Navi fluttered her wings out of bed.
"Sorry, I was already awake. I couldn't help but overhear." said Spike.
"It's okay. We'll both tell them, Spike." said Link, then turned back to Ruby. "Is it okay if we see her?"
"She's sleeping, right now. Just be quiet." said Ruby.
Inside the guest room, Link, Spike, and Navi gasped at the sight in front of them. The poor princess of the Crystal Empire, laid in bed, bandaged around the eyes. Blood was caked on her bandages, the pillow, and the sheets. A bowl of cold water, and a soaking cloth was at the foot of the bed. There was even some herbs to help the pain.
If Twilight and Cadence were here, this would break their hearts.
Ruby ushered the boys and fairy out of the room, to let the poor alicorn rest. Soon, Ruby, carrying her son in his sling, on her back, led her guests outside to the rest of the cave city. Walking up to the market, Link and Spike helped Ruby getting food and more medical supplies for Flurry Heart, in order to repay for her kindness.
Returning home, Ruby made some leftover fish and herb stew for the boys, leaving a bowl for Flurry Heart by her bed, without the fish, when she awoke. Spike was left a tiny side of gemstones.
"Y'know, me and my friend Rarity had a run-in with some naughty Diamond Dogs a long while back, I just assumed all dogs were like that. But, most of you guys are pretty good. No offense, ma'am." said Spike.
"None taken, Spike." said Ruby. "You must be referring to Spot, Fido, and Rover. They're the town bad boys. Every dog in town knows about what they did to your friend. For that, on behalf of all us good dogs, I apologize for that."
"It's in the past. Thank you, though, ma'am." said Spike.
"Mrs. Ruby? Have you been hearing what's been going on in the surface world?" asked Link.
"You must be asking about those two jokes on all Equestrian leadership, King Tirek and Queen Chrysalis." said Ruby.
"King Tirek?!" blurted Spike.
"News travels fast. I've heard from other dogs in the square, today and yesterday." said Ruby.
"Tirek, Chrysalis, and their forces have already conquered the seat of the kingdom. Now, they're on the move to expand their rule. First, they're headed for the Everfree Forest, where the princesses and the last of the free ponies are in hiding. Luckily, Discord has place a powerful defensive spell around the entire forest. I just hope it lasts. At least we'll be safe here, for now. They don't seem to be too concerned with us petty dogs, but I'm sure it'll be a matter of time."
"It's a mess." said Link. "Spike, we gotta find the others. We need to find the Sword and Shield of Harmony. It's the thing strong enough to match those tyrants." said Link.
"We can't go anywhere without Flurry Heart. Who knows how long it'll take for her to recover?" said Spike.
"Wait, boys. What was that about a Sword and Shield of Harmony?" asked Ruby.
"Oh, just something I found in this book the princess of my kingdom, Zelda, gave me about Equestria." said Link.
Ruby stood up from the table, and closed the window curtains, before locking the door. Then, she lit a couple of candles to brighten the darkened room. The boys were in utter confusion.
"Um, what are you doing, Mrs. Ruby?" asked Link.
"Don't worry, Link. Your secret is safe with me." said Ruby. "I know what is you're looking for. Follow me."
Ruby took Link and Spike down to her bedroom, towards an old chest. Opening the chest, Ruby brought out an old page, giving it to Link. From what Link saw, it looked to be a map of sorts.
The map was a layout of Equestria, with red X's on them. One X was right near the Diamond dog's town. Another was near the dragon's kingdom. Another was near the desert town of Appleloosa. A giant circle was in the center of the map, where Canterlot was located.
Suddenly, Link's eyes grew wide with realization.
"This is the missing page to Zelda's book!" said Link. "Mrs. Ruby, where did you get this?"
"It was thousands of years ago." Ruby started.
"Back when we Diamond Dogs first took up scavenging. Back when the Hylians were still allied with the ponies. It was my ancestor, the first scavenger, Pearl. She was the boldest to steal from the Hylian Royal Family. But, the closest she got was to steal one, single page. That page. Still, it was a victory in it's own right. After that, she set out to find the Sword and Shield of Harmony. However, she didn't get far. She had a family, and began scavenging for a living. But, she left this map for someone to find those treasured weapons."
"So, we can use this to find the shield and the pieces of the sword. We bring them together, then we can save Equestria." said Link, smiling with confidence.
"Save Equestria? What do you mean?" asked Ruby.
"With this sword and shield, I can face off and defeat Chrysalis and Tirek." said Link.
"All by yourself?!" said Ruby.
"Link's never by himself." said Navi, flying close to his side.
"That's right, because we'll be right by side, cheering him on." said Spike.
"Ruby, please, take me to where this spot on the map is." said Link.
...
Up above the peak of a mountain, far from the Diamond Dog village, Ruby, Link, and Navi stood before the mouth of a giant cave. Symbols of paw prints on stone slabs were above the mouth of the cave, showing this cave held importance to the Diamond Dogs.
"This here used to be the old mines we dogs used a long time ago, but then it became infested to a home of monsters, and it was too dangerous for us to dig for our precious diamonds anymore. It was the first place my ancestor, Pearl, started her search for the first piece of the fabled Sword of Harmony. Yet, she was lucky to get away from the monsters, and all the more reason to abandon her search." said Ruby.
"Well, I'm gonna finish her unfinished work, but it'll be for saving all of Equestria." said Link. "Thank you, Mrs. Ruby. You best head home. Spike seemed a little nervous about staying with babysitting Rocky and Flurry Heart."
"And leave you and your fairy friend to venture alone in that hazardous place? No sir. I'm coming with." said Ruby, brandishing a crystal bladed dagger, showing she can protect herself.
"Just stay close to me and Navi, Mrs. Ruby." said Link, as the three ventured into the depths of the mines.
...
From a nearby ridge, a moblin had observed Link and Ruby entering the mines, through his telescope. The moblin ran back towards his commanding officer, where he and many moblins were gathered on a bluff, just below where the village was. Many of the moblins were preparing powder kegs, on Dark Link's orders.
"Captain, I just saw the hero go through the old Diamond Dog mines. Permission to pursue them, Captain?" the lieutenant saluted.
"Negative, lieutenant Snort. We go after the village. The hero is a job for the Dodongo." said the captain.
"B-B-But, Captain Moe! Is it a good idea to let it loose?! We haven't tamed it, yet!" said Snort. "We let it loose, it's strength will crush everything underneath! Even us, if we go in the village!"
Moe grabbed Snort by the collar of his armored mail.
"Do as I say, grunt!" shouted Moe.
"If our previous master, Ganondorf, could do it, so can we. For our new masters, Tirek and Chrysalis. For for previous master, the powerful Ganondorf, who was betrayed and murdered by the Hylian Royal Family, and their sage friends! We will succeed!"
The moblins cheered. Moe grinned. The captain had his own reasons for pleasing Tirek and Chrysalis. If he pulled this off, then he'd be the leading favorite of the new queen and king of Equestria, not that little snot, Dark Link. A moblin taking orders from a child, even if a shadow clone, the captain found it ridiculous.
The captain laughed more at these victorious thoughts played through his mind...
Well, guys. That seems like a good place to end this chapter. Sorry this took so long, but don't worry. Next chapter will be up soon, with plenty of action. Because, next chapter will be Zelda Dungeon Time!
Moe, the moblin captain is named after the moblin from the game, The Wind Waker. When he talks about Ganondorf, is a reference which later sets the stage for the game, Twilight Princess.

3. Chapter 2: Dungeon One: Canine Mines
Hey, guys. I'm back with the next chapter. With that, please enjoy the action.
Link and Ruby, brandishing their blades, carefully walked through the cold, rocky entrance of the mines. There were scattered mining helmets, pick axes, and carts littered around the tunnel. Up ahead, two giant double doors led to the rest of the mines.
Link went to open the doors, only found them locked, from the inside. Looking up, Link saw a large hole in the door above him, about a good dozen and a half feet away from where Link stood. Looking back, there was a mine cart, filled with dirt, a good advantage to boosting up to the hole.
"Mrs. Ruby, help me with that cart." said Link.
Working together, the two pushed the heavy, rusty cart towards the door. The way up to the hole was a little closer of reaching, but still not enough.
"Hmm. Mrs. Ruby, you're gonna have to boost me up." said Link.
"I don't know if that's a good idea, Link. Who knows what's on the other side of that door?" said Ruby.
"Well, I can't boost you up. How else are we gonna get it open?" said Link.
"Just be careful." said Ruby.
Ruby got into position, and boosted Link up the hole. Link crawled through, hopping down behind the other end of the doors, Navi flying after him. From where Link was, dozens of skeletal remains of Diamond Dog miners littered the hall.
"Well? Can you get it open?!" Ruby called.
"There's tons of miners over here, Mrs. Ruby. Well, what's left of them. Maybe, one of them has the key, or has. I'll look around." said Link.
Just then, the bones began to move, and reassemble themselves. Link gasped as the skeletal dogs picked up pickaxes, and charged at Link, letting out terrifying moans and groans.
Holding back his sword, Link charged his magic, and let a terrifyingly powerful spin attack, his most powerful move. Link brought down many of the weak monstrosities, but a few still remained. Link knocked them back with his shield, and clashed down on them a few, powerful jump attacks. Taking down the last skeleton, with a simple thrust, Link could finally take a breather.
Amongst the broken bones and dust, Link finally found the key, which he then unlocked the doors. Ruby burst in, worryingly, and found Link standing amongst a pile of dust and bones.
"Goodness, Link! I heard a lot of clashing! But, are you okay?! What happened?!" asked Ruby.
"Oh, nothing I couldn't handle." Link said, casually. "Sorry I couldn't leave one for you to fight with. Come on, let's keep moving."
"Is this what all humans are like? Even children?" Ruby muttered to herself.
The duo marched further into the cave, where they arrived at the main chamber of the mine. In the middle of the chamber, there was a stream of lava divided the floor in half. On the front end of the hall, there was a large door, with a golden lock, and a large bridge, drawn upward.
From where Link and Ruby were, two doors were on both opposite sides of the wall. Link noticed a sign on a pillar, where it showed a picture of two levers, and the bridge lowering.
"Looks like we got ourselves a puzzle." said Link.
"Good thing there's two of us. Those switches on the pillar are the only way we're gonna get across, and I'll betcha anything they're behind these doors. We'll split up. Navi, you go with Mrs. Ruby through the door on the right. I'll take the door on the left. Keep an eye out for the key, too."
"I don't wish to leave you alone, Link." said Ruby.
"Besides, you sure you don't want me with you?" asked Navi.
"Navi, I've done this longer than Mrs. Ruby. She'll need your help more than me. She's got a kid to watch out for, after all." said Link.
"Just be careful, young one." said Ruby.
"I will, ma'am. You too. See you ladies in a bit." said Link.
The three departed, entered the doors, and proceeded down their respective corridors. The doors slammed shut, with a thundering, echoing sound.
...
Link ran down the corridor, keeping his sword at the ready, in case any monster would dare spring at Link. Link stopped in his tracks, as his path was blocked by another stream of lava. Looking to his right, he could see a pool of lava, where a lone pillar poked out of the lake, with a crystal ball switch was right on top of the pillar.
Looking around, Link noticed a small chest. Relying on instinct, and a good guess, Link kicked the chest open. Sure enough, there were bombs right inside. Link collected the bombs, leaving one out to light. Link threw the bomb, and it blew up, hitting the switch. Just then, a set of several pillars emerged from the lava stream.
Link hopped across the pillars, reaching towards another door. Link passed through, into another chamber, which looked more like a fighting arena. the door slammed behind him, along with metal bars. Just then, two Dodongos, a small one and a medium-sized one, dropped onto the arena.
Link brandished his sword and shield. Two Dodongos, against one of him. With Navi, he'd help focus on one enemy, and warn him about others. But, she was with Mrs. Ruby. Link would have to manage on his own.
The medium Dodongo charged first. Link jumped, and landed on it's back. Link ran down it's back, and jump attacked on it's tail. The Dodongo roared in pain, and then turned swiftly for a spin attack with it's tail. Link blocked it with his shield, but the attack did knock Link back a good distance away from the beast.
The small Dodongo had already snuck up behind Link, and was about to use it's fire breath, but Link did a back flip to dodge the beast's attack. Link charged behind the Dodongo, and swiped at it's tail. The beast roared, then turned for a spin attack, but Link raised his shield again. Link deflected the attack, only skidding back slight less than before, due to the size of the beast and it's tail attack.
Link did a backflip, just as the Dodongo was about to charge it's fire breath, then Link landed a mean jump attack on it's tail. The Dodongo fell, and then exploded. With one adversary down, Link could focus on the big guy.
Link charged up, and threw a bomb as it sucked in to use it's fire breath. The Dodongo was stunned by the bomb's explosion from the inside. Link took his chance, rushed behind the beast, and performed a charged spin attack. The Dodongo fell, and Link rushed back to avoid the bigger explosion the defeated Dodongo made.
With both enemies beaten, the doors opened, and Link continued down the path. The last chamber Link entered, it brought him right to the switch from the pillar on the pedestal. Link pulled the chain lever, and something clicked.
"Guess that's that." said Link. "Gotta get back to the others."
...
"Oh, I hate splitting up." said Ruby. "I hope Link's okay."
"Don't worry, Mrs. Ruby. Me and Link have done this plenty of times." said Navi.
"I guess it's the mother-child instinct in me." said Ruby.
"Say, I've been meaning to ask, what happened to Rocky's father?" asked Navi.
"Oh... that. Well, I..." Ruby said, discomfortingly.
"On second thought, never mind. Sorry I asked." Navi apologized.
"No, dearie. It's fine." said Ruby.
"It's not a memory I'd like to remember. My husband, Silver, was the bravest Diamond Dog I've ever met. I first met him when we were both kids. We both ventured out into the surface. Then, these mean unicorn ponies, a white and brown maned male, and a pink and purple maned female, tried to take our gems. However, Silver, even for a pup, was brave enough to scare off those unicorns with throwing rocks. It was even his favorite rock collection he gave up to protect me. Ever since then, we've always been together. We grew up together, got married, and had Rocky. Then, one day, he left and never came back. We found out later that he was trying to mine near the kingdom of changelings. They caught him for trespassing and stealing from their soil. All we could find was his ring. His wedding ring."
Ruby held out her necklace. Two golden rings hanged from the chains.
"We thought they executed him, and took his body. All I know is that the love of my life, and the only father my boy would ever know, was gone forever." Ruby concluded her story. Navi sniffed, sadly.
"Now, now. No need for tears. It was quite a long while ago." said Ruby. "Come, we must find that switch."
The two continued down the corridor, where Ruby was faced with a trap of sorts. Giant spinning pillars, covered with spikes, ran up and down the wall. The pillars were about a few feet apart, but the length of the spikes were the real danger. Navi helped time the pillars, as Ruby rolled and dodged the pillars. Ruby made it to the next door, and hurried through.
Ruby entered a chamber that looked like a battle arena, when suddenly, the door slammed shut behind, and metal bars sealed the doors. A swarm of ten Dodongo larvas popped out of the ground. Brandishing her dagger, Ruby got into a fighting stance.
"Navi, what are these things?!" said Ruby.
"Dodongo larvas! They're the earliest mature stage of a dinosaur named Dodongo." said Navi. "Just be careful. You kill one, they explode."
"You're quite informative, for a fairy." said Ruby, as she slashed as a larva, bringing it down.
"When it comes to battle, Link says I'm always a big help." said Navi. "Oh, great. Now I'm worried about Link, fighting enemies on his own."
Ruby wasn't one to fight, but that didn't mean she had the skill, potential and cleverness. Ruby slashed at two more larvas, then kicked them towards other several more larva, and were caught in the explosions. Ruby finished the short-lived battle, by doing her own version of a spin attack, bringing down the last three larva.
The doors opened again, and Ruby and Navi rushed through the next one. In the next chamber, Ruby found the second chain lever, and pulled. Another clicking noise could be heard.
"That's that. Let's get back to Link." said Navi.
...
Link, Ruby, and Navi regrouped with each other, as the bridge came lowering down, and setting into place. Just then, two lizard humanoid creatures, Lizaflos, burst onto the bridge. Link and Ruby got into fighting position.
Link and Ruby clashed blades with the swords of the Lizaflos. Link and Ruby had to go onto the defensive, as the Lizaflos were jumping, and trying to attack from behind. Just as one Lizaflos jumped to attack Link, Link rolled underneath, catching the creature off guard, and Link delivered a big spin attack, bringing the creature down.
Ruby copied Link's strategy, rolling under the Lizaflos' jump, and then brought a spin attack, knocking the Lizaflos back. However, Ruby's spin attack wasn't as strong as Link's, as the Lizaflos got back up, but Link finished the Lizaflos with a jump attack. The Lizaflos was down.
"Thanks, Link." said Ruby. Link nodded, returning her thanks.
Just then, a golden chest appeared in the middle of the floor. Link opened it, and found the big key. Taking the key, Link unlocked the door, and he, Ruby, and Navi rushed through the big door.
...
Link and Ruby carefully stepped into the large chamber, ready for any type of enemy that would try to ambush them again. In the chamber, there was a small chest, and a giant hole right behind it.
Link opened the chest, and got more bombs, knowing they'll come in handy. Looking down below the hole, it was pitch black. Link kicked a stone down the hole, and the sound of the stone hitting a floor echoed below.
"You should stay here, Mrs. Ruby. The sword piece has to be down there, but something else might be waiting, too." said Link. "This way, you won't get hurt."
"No sir. I'm coming, too." said Ruby. "Sure, I might be dog chow to whatever could be lying in wait down there, but I'm with ya, son."
Link and Ruby jumped down the hole, landing onto the dirt floor. Navi flew next to them, her light brightening up the dark. Link looked to see the entire floor almost looked like a racing tunnel.
"Now, this is curious." said Ruby. "I didn't think my ancestors had made this tunnel."
"That's because they didn't." said Link, ominously. "This tunnel was just recently made."
"By what?" asked Ruby.
A low, but loud growl answered Ruby for Link.
"By that." Navi pointed out.
A gigantic Dodongo, the king of the Dodongos, slowly advanced towards the three. The dinosaurs claws, teeth, and hot breath definitely meant business. That's when it curled into a ball, and started rolling towards Link and Ruby, with terrifying speed.
"RUN, MRS. RUBY!" Link cried.
Ruby didn't need to be told twice, as they ran down the corridor of the looping tunnel. The King Dodongo was catching up to the duo. Link spotted a hole in the wall, up ahead. Grabbing Ruby's wrist, Link ran towards the hole, and they ducked into it, just in time for the King Dodongo to roll past them.
"Okay, we need a plan." Link panted, trying to catch his breath.
"Okay, Ruby. I'm gonna give you some bombs. I'll distract the King Dodongo, and when we come around, throw one. That'll stun it, and then I'll go in for the kill. Navi, help her target where she needs to throw. Got it?"
"Link, you've put yourself through enough dangerous jobs for a while. Let me handle the dinosaur." said Ruby. "Besides, among the other Diamond Dogs, I'm the fastest in my village."
"You've got a son to protect." said Link.
Link and Ruby turned to hear the Dodongo coming back around, again.
"No time to argue." Ruby said, running out of the hole before Link could stop her.
Ruby ran down the loop, running on all fours, like a true dog. The Dodongo King was hot on her heels, rolling like a boulder. Ruby made a sharp turn around the corner, while the Dodongo King bumped into the corner, sending a few boulders from the ceiling to tumble. Luckily, Link and Navi were out of their way, but Ruby had to evade the boulders falling onto the track. Still, Ruby was able to make it back around the loop, towards the hole Link was in.
"Here he comes, Link! Get ready!" Ruby called.
Link took out a bomb, lit the fuse, and threw it onto the ground, right in front of the King Dodongo. The bomb exploded on colliding with the Dodongo King, blinding the giant dinosaur, as it skidded on it's stomach to a halt. Link charged in, and landed a powerful spin attack.
However, the Dodongo King got back up, and started to curl back up into a ball, again. Ruby pushed Link back into the hole, and began running.
"Man, I forgot how tough these big guys get." said Link, taking out another bomb. "Well, this time we'll get him."
Ruby started to run faster, as the Dodongo King picking up the pace, smashing into more walls, and bringing down more boulders. Ruby had to jump sometimes to avoid some boulders.
As Link saw Ruby come around the corner again, he prepared another bomb. As the Dodongo King came around the corner, Link threw the lit bomb. But, the Dodongo King suddenly stopped, just before it could hit the bomb.
"No way! It avoided the bomb!" said Link.
The Dodongo King turned towards Link, and started to inhale for it's fire breath. This Dodongo King seemed faster and a little more smarter than the last Dodongo King Link faced, back in Dodongo's cavern a year ago. But, Link was faster and smarter since then, too.
Link quickly took out another bomb, and threw it into it's mouth. The bomb exploded, and the Dodongo was down.
"Mrs. Ruby! Jump attack, now!" Link called.
Link and Ruby jumped, holding their blades high, then bringing them down onto the dinosaur in a powerful combo. The Dodongo roared and then fell, defeated. Then, it's body started to glow, indicating it was gonna blow. Link, Ruby, and Navi dashed as far as they could, before the Dodongo King exploded.
As soon as the dust and rumbling settled, no more loose ceiling boulders this time, the three looked to be in the clear. Looking back, they could see the explosion had blown a giant hole in the wall. Something was glowing inside the hole.
Link, Ruby, and Navi approached the light, and found a glowing piece of crystal. On the top of a pedestal, the crystal was glowing clear, blueish-white. It was also shaped like the handle of a sword.
"This has to be the first piece of the Sword of Harmony." Link said, as he held up the sword piece in his hands. "Just two more to find, and then we'll have the key to saving the kingdom."
Just then, a blue light appeared in the floor, behind the trio.
"Ah, just in the nick of time." said Link. "Come on, Mrs. Ruby. We can use that to get out of the mines."
Link, Navi, and Ruby entered the light, and it lifted them up into the air.
...
The light teleported them back out into the entrance of the mine, and they landed on their feet, with gentle ease.
"Well, Link. I must say, you are quite the formidable lad. I say that as a compliment, of course." said Ruby.
"Thanks, Mrs. Ruby. You're pretty good, too." said Link. "We all make a great team. Right, Navi?"
Link turned to his fairy friend, but didn't find her flying next to him.
"Navi?"
"Oh, no! Link! Ruby! Over here!" Navi cried, hovering near the cliff.
Link and Ruby rushed to the edge, and gasped. The center of the valley was gone. A big hole was now in full view. Black smoke was rising from the hole. It was the same, exact spot where the Diamond Dog village was located.
"The village!" Link cried.
"My baby!" Ruby cried.
"Spike and Flurry Heart!" Navi cried.
"Come on! We gotta get down there! Now!" said Link.
"I know a shortcut, back down." said Ruby.
Ruby pointed to a mine cart, on a rail going down the slope, back towards the valley. Link and Ruby climbed into the cart, while Navi flew into Link's hat. The cart took down the slope with great speed. The heroes could only hope it was enough to get to the village, and save their family, friends, and the villagers in time...
Welp, guys. There's the first dungeon level chapter. Gonna end this off on a cliffhanger. Next chapter will have more action, like a chase scene kind of action. Hope you also liked the backstory I gave to my OC, Ruby.

4. Chapter 3: Back On The Run
Hey, guys. I'm back with the next chapter. Please enjoy.
The cart speeded down the tunnel, and then stopped, abruptly, at the bumper. Link and Ruby jumped out, and started running towards the village. Navi flew out of Link's hat. The trio stopped in their tracks, as they looked to see the village was crumbling right in front of them.
Moblins were breaking down the crystal stalagmite homes. They were blowing open the homes in the cave walls. Diamond Dogs were running from the Moblins, as they chased them with their spears. What was terrifying the most, was there was already so many casualties. Bodies of fallen Diamond Dogs, mostly in front or inside their homes, were scattered throughout the village. Thankfully, none of the bodies were children. However, the Moblins took them captive.
Link and the girls took cover behind a fallen stalagmite, as several Moblin soldiers came marching through. From where they were, they saw the Moblins loading up the puppies in cages. They couldn't find Spike, Flurry Heart, or Rocky. That could mean they weren't captured, yet.
"What are we going to do?!" whispered Ruby.
"Navi, you and Ruby go find Spike and the others. I'm gonna free the puppies, and round up any survivor that's still in the village." said Link.
"Those Moblins still look much too strong for your sword. You still got your hookshot?" said Navi.
"You betcha." said Link, brandishing the pull-chain weapon. "We head out back through the cave, leading to the beach, where Ruby first found us."
"Be careful, Link." said Ruby.
"It's you who should be careful, Mrs. Ruby." said Link.
Link snuck out to the left, towards the captured puppies. Navi and Ruby snuck to the right, towards Ruby's house, the one place to start searching for Flurry Heart and the boys.
Link took cover behind more boulders, as he tried to get closer to the cages. Link ducked his head, as the Moblin, Snort, brought another caged puppy to the pile. Looking up, Link saw the Moblins had brought a giant barrel of wine.
'Probably to celebrate and toast to another barbaric conquest.' Link thought.
Looking at the barrel again, Link got an idea. Link whistled to Snort. Snort turned to see Link, and gasped. When Snort reached for his conch, to sound the other Moblins, Link brought out his hookshot, and latched onto the barrel. Link pulled, and brought the barrel down onto Snort. Snort dropped his conch, as his entire body, except for his legs. Link then rushed up, and kicked Snort in the barrel, sending him rolling right down a slope, and towards a wall.
The puppies laughed at seeing the giant pig thing go down. Link then unlocked all the cages, and set all the puppies free.
"Come on, kids. Let's go find your parents." said Link, then whispered to himself, "If they are still around."
As Link and the puppies escaped, Snort tried to get back up, kicking his legs back and forth. However, the weight of the drink in the barrel wasn't getting him anywhere.
"Please, let me out of here! Please!" The Moblin whined. "I really don't drink!"
...
Ruby and Navi took cover behind a house, as a group of Moblins marched through the streets, searching for any more dogs to take as prisoners. As soon as they were gone, Ruby and Navi made a dash for Ruby's house.
As soon as they got inside, Ruby rushed to Rocky's room, searching for her pup.
"Rocky? Rocky!" Ruby whispered, not wanting to attract the Moblins, outside.
"Mrs. Ruby, over here!" Navi whispered to Ruby.
Navi guided Ruby to a latch on the floor, in the hall.
"Oh, the cellar! Of course!" said Ruby. "I forgot all about this. This has so many stuff in there that I've collected over the years, it makes the perfect place to hide."
Ruby opened the cellar door, then she and Navi rushed down the stairs. In the dark cellar, everything was collecting dust. There were chests of rocks and gems that Ruby neglected to trade in, and were now considered worth less or nothing at all. There was plenty of digging and mining equipment in their boxes.
"Kids? Kids, are you down here? It's us, Ruby and Navi." Ruby called.
"Mrs. Ruby?" a voice called.
From behind a large crate, Spike came out of hiding. In his right arm, he carried the still unconscious Flurry Heart. In his left arm, he carried the frightened Rocky.
"Mama!" Rocky cried, running to his mother.
"Oh, my baby! Rocky!" Ruby said, scooping up her pup in her arms.
"When the Moblins came, I knew I had to get Rocky and Flurry Heart to someplace safe. So, when I found the door leading to this cellar, I just hoped we wait it out, and wait for you guys to come back." said Spike.
"Thank you Spike, for protecting the kids." said Ruby. "Come. We need to find Link. I'm sure he's helped more others escape."
Rushing outside, they saw Link standing with the last of the surviving Diamond Dogs that were taken prisoners. About a hundred of them, half male and the other half female, with the pups were reunited with their parents.
"Spike, you and the rest of the guys okay?" asked Link.
"Yes, we are. Is this all that's left of the villagers?" said Spike.
"Yes, and there'll be less if we stay here longer." said Link.
"But, even if we could get out, they've got more soldiers patrolling near the entrance tunnel, on the beach." said one male Diamond Dog.
"Come, I know another way out. A secret way out." said Ruby. "It's right underneath my house, in my cellar. It's been there longer before I lived in it."
Ruby led everyone down to her cellar. Ruby and Link both pushed a giant book case, to reveal a long tunnel in the wall.
"This goes all the way to the edge of the meadow, or what's left of the meadow. We can head into the direction of the Dragon Canyon." said Ruby.
"Dragons?!" cried a male Diamond Dog. "But they're-"
"Better them, than those pig-faced trolls!" a female Diamond Dog interrupted.
"Come on, everybody. Stay close." said Link, taking the lead.
Navi brightened her light, lighting the way. Ruby and Spike stayed in the back of the line, to close up the passage, so they wouldn't be followed. The pathway through was pitch dark, but looked to be a long, yet safe trek through. Still, Link and the Diamond Dogs, including Ruby, all brandished their weapons, to be safe. Link had his sword and shield, Ruby with her crystal dagger, and the other Diamond Dogs carried diamond-edged spears, along with bows and crystal-tipped arrows.
Soon enough, light was in view. The group emerged from the tunnel, and away from the ruined valley.
"Mrs. Ruby, which way to the canyon?" asked Link.
"Over there." Ruby said, pointing to a large mount of rock in the horizon, across a giant field.
"It's out in the open. What if we get spotted?" said a male puppy.
"It'll be okay. There's lots of trees and giant boulders we can use to hide behind." Link said, pointing to the field. "Now, we've gotta hurry, everyone."
The group began to trek across the field. It was a long walk, and already some of the Diamond Dogs were becoming tired, their paws starting to ache. Yet, Link, Spike, or Ruby would be there to help them back onto their feet.
They were just about halfway towards the canyon, when they heard the sound of a Moblin's conch, sounding off in the distance. Link climbed onto a boulder, and shielded his eyes over his head, to see a cloud of dust coming towards them. Link knew it was the Moblins, charging at them.
"Mrs. Ruby! Spike! We're gonna need to run!" Link called, jumping off of the boulder.
The crowd of Diamond Dogs began to panic, but Ruby was the first to calm them down.
"Now, everyone! Please, at ease! We're still a good length away from them. We're almost to the canyon." Ruby reassured.
"But, if they catch up?!" a female Diamond Dog cried, holding her puppies close.
"We can hold them back, as much as we need to." said Ruby.
"Their skin is thick, like an extra set of armor. I don't think I can hold them all back with my hookshot." said Link.
"You won't have to, Link. We've got spears and arrows, crafted from the sharpest gems. Strong enough to pierce the Moblins' tough build." said Ruby.
"Ruby's got a point. We've gotta protect our families, with all we've got!" a male Diamond Dog agreed, raising his spear.
"For our families! For all those who we're lost! We owe it all to them!" another male Diamond Dog chimed in.
"We're gonna have to make a run for it." Link said, looking back at the cloud of dust. "Everyone ready?"
The dogs all barked in agreement. The group began to make a run for the canyon. Back with the Moblins, captain Moe spotted the group, heading for the canyon.
"Are the scouting parties ready?" Moe asked a random Moblin grunt.
"Yessir! They should be coming from both the left and right." the grunt saluted.
"Give the signal. We can't let them get to that canyon." ordered Moe. "But, leave the boy alive. I'll handle him."
The grunt gave the signal with his conch. Up ahead, Link could see a group of Moblins charging from the left, spears and clubs at the ready.
"Ambush!" Link cried.
"Archers! Defend the women and children!" a male archer Diamond Dog ordered.
"Let me have some crystal arrows! I'll help hold them back!" said Link.
Drawing their bows and arrows, Link and the dogs fired. A showers of arrows fell from the air, and they pierced the Moblins' tough torsos. One by one, a great number of the Moblins fell.
"Keep going, Mrs. Ruby!" Link called back.
Ruby and the rest of the group kept running towards the canyon. However, the captain spotted them escaping.
"Fire the catapult! Don't let them escape!" shouted Moe.
The Moblins loaded a catapult with stolen Goron powder kegs, and launched them towards the top of the canyon. The kegs exploded, sending a rockslide of boulders down onto the rift of the canyon. The Diamond Dogs stopped in their tracks, and backed up to avoid the giant rocks.
"We're trapped!" Spike cried.
"Wait! Where's Ruby?!" a female Diamond Dog called.
"She's abandoned us!" another female dog cried.
"No, she hasn't! Look!" Spike shouted, pointing to the left.
"There's another way! Through here! Hurry!" Ruby called, and beckoned.
From where Ruby was, an outcropping of rock hid a secret tunnel, leading towards the direction of the canyon. The Diamond Dogs slid down the mouth of the tunnel, single file. Link looked back to see Ruby, Spike, Flurry Heart, and Rocky enter the tunnel, lastly.
"The women and children made it through! Fall back!" Link called.
The male Diamond Dogs ran for the tunnel, while Link shot a fire arrow at the catapult, setting it ablaze. Link then used his Din's Fire spell, and burned the field in a wall of fire, blocking the Moblins from following them, any further. Link and Navi dashed for the tunnel, and slid down the mouth of the cave.
"You alright, lad?" Ruby asked.
"Yes, Mrs. Ruby. I'm okay. We shouldn't have to worry about the Moblins following us, now." said Link.
"I can't see where the path leads. Do we follow it or not?" said a male Diamond Dog.
"Follow it, of course!" said a female dog.
"Alright, everyone! Single file, going down the path!" Ruby called. "Pups, hold onto your parents' paws! Also, for Celestia's sake, don't push all at once! Watch your footing!"
"Mrs. Ruby's becoming quite the leader. Ain't she, Link?" said Navi. Link nodded, fully.
...
"Where is that lieutenant?! That's the last time I leave him in charge of a raid! Lieutenant Snort! You're never around when I need you!" Moe yelled, furiously. "If only I was there, and switched my role of searching for the boy with his. Nothing gets under my nose in a raid."
"Captain! We found him, sir!" a grunt saluted. "Snort was found stuck in the wine barrel we brought, to toast our victory."
A few Moblins carried the already drunk Moblin, Snort, and threw him at the captain's feet.
"Oh, there you are, ol' boy!" Snort hiccuped and giggled, in a tipsy manner. "Captain, you'll never believe this! I just spotted the boy! Guess the Dodongo wasn't a match for him, after all! Eh?"
"Anything else you like to point out?" The captain said, shaking with impatient rage.
"Hmm? None, sir." said Snort. "Say, when did we get out in the middle of a field?"
The captain chuckled, then grabbed Snort furiously, and threw him into the ruined catapult. The flames on the catapult had already burnt out, leaving a broken pile of burnt wood in it's place. Snort landed into the pile, and got his head stuck in one of the wheels.
"Get out of that, if you can!" Moe growled.
Well, guys. This seems to be a good stopping point for this chapter. Next chapter, it will switch to the narrative of the Mane Six, as they meet up with Zelda, Impa, Malon, and Epona, as they search for Link and the others.
The chase scene is loosely based on the movie, The Hobbit: An unexpected Journey. The scene with Snort and Moe is also loosely based on the Disney movie version of Robin Hood.

5. Important Update
Hey, guys. It's me, Stitch-Fan-3.
I am SO SORRY I haven't updated anything in a long while. I guess it's been a lazy summer for me, that's all.
So, I'm sure some of you are wondering when the next chapter of the TLZ-MLP crossover is.
Sadly, there isn't.
I was working on the next chapter, but then it didn't start turning out the way I envisioned it.
That's why I've decided to discontinue the story, for now. I will be leaving this note and both parts one and two up until, maybe until the end of the week, and then take it down. This is just so everyone who's followed this can get a head's up.
However, I will be going back, and doing a rewrite. You know, start the story over from scratch. It'll still follow the same story, but some, if not most parts of the story will be changed to make them a little better.
I don't know when, but sometime in the nearest future, I'll get to rewriting the series. I'm gonna work on other stories, in the meantime.
I apologize for all those who've read, followed, and reviewed this story. I appreciate it all, really, but the series just doesn't sit right with me. I hope you all can understand why.
So, with that, thanks for being patient with me guys, and stay tuned for more fanfic on this site. Thanks, guys.
