1. Chapter 1
January 10th 2003. The day two colt pegasi were born. One to lead a life of fame and fortune, the other to be a ruffian of evil and discord. This is the story of the former.
A mare and a stallion were at home. Nursing their 2 colt twins. One being on his mother's side and the other on his father's. One had blue skin and a messy rainbow mane whilst the other had grey skin and dark hair. Almost being opposites of one another. They were both loved dearly by their parents.
"Doesn't Rainbow Runner look so cute curled up like that?" The colts mother cooed.
"Well. Of course. But look at Grey Crescent. No mare would resist him when he gets older." The father fought back. Rainbow had started to rock and squirm in his mother's hooves. Grey had stayed still, almost lifeless in his father's hooves ever since he was picked up. Grey suddenly burst to life and fell out of his father's grasp. He hit the carpet hard and started to cry.
"Oh dear." The father exclaimed as he picked up his crying child and tried to calm it down. Rainbow had his eyes fixiated on the two of them. He felt confused about why they were panicing so much, and being so upset. His mother set him down in his crib as she went to go help her husband. He fell asleep, with thoughts of his mother and father being distraught.
2. Chapter 2
Rainbow woke the next day to find his brother in his crib opposite to him. He tried to stand to get a better look at his sleeping sibling but his legs gave out each time. He found it amusing and kept on laughing to himself. However, his brother didn't take too kindly to it and he woke in a fit of crying. His mother came quickly to console the crying infant. That's when he saw his father come and pick him up as well. He cooed at the sight of his father and sqealued in delight as he was tossed around gently. His brother had stopped crying and gave him an almost evil glare. He envyed how his brighter coloured brother was given a more friendly treatment He felt like he was the tossed out garbage whislt his brother was the star of the show.
"What are you looking at sweetie?" His mother cooed as she noticed him staring at his brother. "Are you looking at your brother?" She continued in her high pitched squeal she used when she was talking to small ponies. She didn't know of his evil thoughts about his brother and he masked it with his appearence.
3. Chapter 3: School life
Fast forward to Rainbow and Grey's school life.
Rainbow and Grey were walking home after a day at the school. They were both walking with a group of friends. Rainbow was with a pegasus mare named Falling Flame and Grey was with an earth pony stallion named Lightening. They had only joined the school and those two were the first to introduce themselve to them. Grey constantly teased Rainbow being in love with Falling Flame and he did the same about Grey and Lightening. They enjoyed each other's company but Rainbow could admit that he did have a crush on Falling Flame, but not to his brother's face. They had both become intrigued and heavily into music. But their tastes were very different. Rainbow endulged himself into the world of rock and metal whilst Grey fancied the world of techno and pop music. Rainbow had begged his parents to buy him a guitar and they finally gave in one day and bought him his first electric guitar. Grey had done the same and was bought a turntable set. They had constant battles over who the better musician was.
"Oh come on. Guitar takes so much more effort than pressing a button and letting the music play." Rainbow jeered.
"Yeah, but last time I checked screaming doesn't count as singing." Grey fought back.
"I don't think whining does either." Rainbow argued. Falling Flame and Lightening both whooped and screamed at Rainbow's comeback.
"Whatever. Why don't you go and make out with Falling Flame for a bit?" Grey teased.
"Oh shut up." Rainbow said back, audibly annoyed.
"Come on. I've seen how you two look at each other. You both obviously want to be each other's special somepony." Lightening added. Rainbow and Falling looked at each other and he could see she was blushing. Her normal dark blue cheeks were more red than the strands of her mane. Rainbow started to blush and he could hear Grey and Lightening sniggering. He chose not to care and kept on staring into her eyes.
"JUST KISS ALREADY!" Grey yelled. Rainbow and Falling turned to face him and the two of them were laughing so hard they were rolling on the floor.
"Leave us alone. Can you stop being a complete idiot for once?" Rainbow yelled back. Grey ignored him and kept on laughing. He turned back to face Falling and spread his wings.
"Wanna head back to mine?" He asked as he got off of the ground.
"Sure. I'd like that." Falling replied as she started to take flight. They raced off towards Rainbow's home.
"Hey! Wait up!" Grey yelled at them. "Jerk."
They got in and Rainbow's mother was sitting at the table in their dining room.
"Hey mum. Hope you don't mind my friend Falling Flame being over?" He said.
"I don't mind that. Where's your brother?" She asked.
"Oh. Ummm. We sorta went ahead whilst he and his friend Lightening went slower." Rainbow explained.
"Next time don't do that." She said sternley.
"Okay. We're just gonna be upstairs." Rainbow said. They raced upstairs to Rainbow's room. He had decked it out with posters of rock stars and guitars. His guitar was sitting in the corner and he dumped his school stuff next to it as he grabbed it.
"Cool room. I haven't listened to much of this stuff but these guys look cool." Falling Flame commented.
"Thanks. I really advise you give some of these guys a listen to. What they do is so awesome!" Rainbow said as he plugged in his guitar and started to play.
"What do you know?" Flame asked.
"Pardon?" He said.
"Sorry. I meant what do you know on guitar?" She repeated.
"Not much. But I do know this." He replied as he started playing. He had only started playing but he practiced so much he could play most stuff he knew with his eyes closed. He continued to play one of his favourite songs, Enter Sandman by the tharsh metal band Metallica. He knew the famous riff off by heart and he showed off by putting the guitar behind his head and playing it with his back to Falling Flame. She started to clap as he wound down.
"That was amazing! How can you do that?" She asked.
"I just practice." He explained. He felt his rear end start to glow and his mouth grew to a massive , ear-to-ear grin. He let it glow and when it had finished he saw a tatoo of what looked like a music note.
"OH YEAAAAAAH!" He yelled.
"Oh my gosh! You just got your cutie mark!" Falling Flame gasped.
"What do you think?" He asked.
"Who cares how it looks! You just got your cutie mark!" She yelled. His door opened and his mother came in.
"What's this ruckas all about?" She asked.
"I just got my cutie mark mum!" He yelled.
"No you did not! No way!" She said, pleased and in disbelief. She went up to her son and looked at his rear end. She studied it and then looked at her son with a big proud smile.
"Well. Looks like someone is destined to be a musician. Well done honey." She said. Rainbow looked at her and started to shred the solo to Bohemian Rhapsody. He looked in disbelief at what he was doing. When he had stopped he felt out of breath.
"I don't remember learning that. But I have listened to it." He said.
"Well I guess you really are cut out for music." His mum replied. As she left they could hear Grey using his turntables. It shook the house and he clearly didn't care. Rainbow couldn't stand it and went into his room. He saw that it was like his room but instead of rockstars it was pop stars and techno artists on his walls. Lightening was in the room as well, trying to dance to it. He looked stupid as he tried to moon walk around the small room.
"Hey! Will ya turn it down?" Rainbow yelled over the sound. Grey kept on going , ignoring his brother's request. Rainbow had had enough of it and unplugged him from the socket. The music shut off almost instantly and Grey never even noticed. However, Lightening did and shoved Rainbow over.
"Whatcha do that for?" He asked. Rainbow got back up and eyed him. He was only a little bit shorter than Lightening but he still looked like he meant buisness.
"I could barely hear myself think over that racket." He replied. Grey noticed the two talking and took off his heaphones.
"Hey. Why's the music off?" He asked, unaware of what happened.
"This idiot turned it off." Lightening explained. Rainbow looked at his brother. His brother glared at him and stared him down. It was a common thing he did to scare people. They thought he had a death stare that no one could succumb to. However, his brother learned how to withstand it. They stared each other down and Grey finally looked away.
"Turn it down. I'm only warning you once." Rainbow said menacingly. He left the room and Falling Flame was laying down on his bed.
"What happened?" She asked as she got up.
"I just got him to be a bit more quiet. I guess you made yourself comfortable though eh?" He bantered.
"Hah. Sorry. It looked really comfortable and I am feeling absolutely drained from school." She explained.
