Chapter 2: 2. A Mouthful of Chew

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Josuke was deep in it now. The principal of his new school was right in front of him with a serious look in her eye, and it was only the first day of school, of course something had to happen. Principal Celestia shook her head with a sigh as she held her hand out, a small yet warm smile on her face.

"I want to thank you first, for saving everyone as you did, and I want to apologize to you for having such an awful first day of school."

He looked down at her hand for a moment, then back to her, smiling brightly with a genuine chuckle as he shook her hand.

"Are you kidding? Aside from the rubble behind me, this day has been awesome, Great even! Everyone was so nice and friendly, it's a real shame about all this. If anything, I'm sorry... Uh, ma'am?"

He tilted his head a bit in confusion, she had been staring at his knuckles with a concerned face, then trailed his arm to his face with her gaze.

"I can see the bone, Mr. Joestar, and you've clearly have burns on your arms. Either you're a very good liar, or you really are used to injuries like these."

"W-Well it's nothing to worry about-"

"I heard from a student you saved what you did to the injured. Before you dug them out."

He flinched. He was okay with people knowing he could fix things like chairs, lockers, and even doors. But he didn't want people to know about his real power.

"I... Can we please keep it a secret?"

"I won't have gossip in my school, but I do have to ask, why aren't you healing yourself?"

"Can't. Don't know why, but I can fix anything but me. Not that it matters anyways."

"Is this magic? We've had a few events dealing with that."

"I'm not sure, I guess it is. But like I said, you don't have to worry about it, I'll be leaving town soon anyways."

"What? You can't just start then end school in one day, Mr. Joestar."

"It's real important I go. This was all my fault, I'll let you know that, and it's best for everyone if I just left."

"Not without explaining why first. Something happened here that you know, and I don't, so please tell me so we can alert the authorities if we have to."

Josuke looked down, letting out a soft sigh. As he lifted his head, Principal Celestia could have sworn she was talking to someone else. From nervous and evasive, Josuke had suddenly donned a grim expression with an utterly serious demeanor.

"It's something I can't let anyone be apart of. I'm sorry ma'am, but you'll just have to deal with it."

Then it was Josuke's turn to be surprised as Principal Celestia returned the look, gently squeezing his hand.

"And I'm sorry, but you're still my student, and I look after my students. Mr. Joestar I'll ask again. What really happened in there."

He was stuck in a corner and couldn't do anything but give in, and she knew it. Rubbing his neck and groaning loudly, he went back to his meek manner.

"Alright, alright, you win ma'am! But on one condition!"

"Name it and I'll decide if we can agree to it."

"We meet back here after nightfall. I promise to tell you all I can."

"I'm sure you'll keep your word."

"I will... Could you please let go of my hand now?"

She let got of his hand as he gave quick bow before leaving for home. As he made his way home he felt that old creeping feeling. He was being watched by someone hiding, and did his best to ignore it as he entered his new house.

"Mom, I'm hom- Urk!"

He was pulled down by what was left of his shirt to eye level with his mother, eyes boring into his soul. Nothing scared him more than making his mom angry.

"What in the hell happened to you!? Look at you, you're a dusty dirty mess! You didn't get in a fight in school again, did you?"

"Oi, oi, oi calm down already! I didn't fight anyone from school, just got into a hot spot, alright?"

"Hot is right, you smell like burnt hair products, what in the world did you do to ruin that perfect jacket! And you worked both of us half to death on making that stupid shirt."

"This shirt is still godlike! I don't know what kind of blindness you've been diagnosed with to not see otherwise."

"The same kind you have, you still think that hair is still sociably acceptable, I'm surprised you didn't get arrested for public nudity."

"Mom leave the do alone, it did nothing wrong, besides there was fire at the school and we got out in time."

"I see your hands, young man, what happened to those?"

"There were a few obstacles but I knocked them down."

"Uh-Huh. Sure. Just clean the floor you just dirtied up."

"Actually Mom, I've got to leave as soon as sundown."

"Josuke! You're not going out to meet women already are yo-"

"Mom, no! It's just the principal from school."

"Oh my God, my son's a cougar hunter!"

"Mom I'm not you, I plan on getting married first, and with someone near my age."

"Shut up and get your dinner already!"

"Cook the food so I can eat it already!"

Josuke loved his mother being the supportive woman she was. Even as she gave him constant flack for his hair, she never stopped him from being himself, and always helped him whenever she could. He'd never tell her but in his eyes she was an ideal woman. He washed up and ate his meal while watching TV. Of course the explosion was on, but to his surprise they kept his story down. All that was shown was the dousing of the flames. Night was soon upon him and he had to get back to the school.

"Mom I'll be back in an hour or two."

"You're not planning on eloping yet, are you?"

"I'M GONE!"

"IT WAS AN HONEST QUESTION-"

Slamming the door behind him, he walked back to school. That feeling was gone, but he knew whoever was watching them hadn't left entirely. He found the school and sat by the rubble of the right hand building. Within moments, Principal Celestia came, approaching him with her arms folded.

"So, where do we start?"

"With a warning. Ma'am, the people are Great and deserve a happy life. If I stay here, if you hear what I have to say and see what I'm about to do, we're in for a world of headaches. Are you really sure about this?"

She took a step forward and nodded.

"I've seen quite a few bizarre things as principal here. I'm sure I can handle this."

"... Yes ma'am."

He offered a hand to her, upon taking it, began to walk among the rubble. Then it happened. The building began to reconstruct itself slowly.

"In the gym, it was pretty nice. We were doing simple stuff, exercises and such, but one kid was different."

"Different?"

"They weren't doing anything for a while. They had a lighter in hand and kept flickering it on and off."

"You're saying they started the fire."

"Yep. Each time they turned the lighter off, the fire stayed and grew. No one was paying too much attention until we noticed the rise in temperature in the room."

"What?!"

"The fire started eating away at the building, starting with any exits. That's why if we look at the doors now."

They turned and saw the doors were burnt horribly, almost to ashes.

"It's really hard to fix them. The walls also got the most damage."

"How did you figure this out?"

"Easy. I knew at once it wasn't normal, and they were the only one who were calm. That and they told me in person, ain't that right, buddy?"

Josuke kicked a chunk of debris away to reveal a young man underneath. His body was weirdly shaped and badly proportioned. He shivered at the sight of Josuke and tried to squirm away but was lifted into the air by his neck.

"Hey, hey, no hard feelings, right? I fixed you too, just had a bit of trouble with it since we were both a bit heated up."

"Y-Y-You're crazy! You think this is fixed!?"

"Yeah, because I could've just left you under there with nothing, not even air to breathe. By the way this is Principal Celestia, ma'am this is-"

Josuke shook him, getting a yelp as his body began to slowly return to more normal form, below average height and skinny frame. His short hair was like a dull fire, badly lit in a dank environment.

"R-Rising Flame! I'm-I'm not even supposed to be at this school! Some guy just gave me alot of money to burn the place with you in it okay?! J-Just don't hit me again!"

"I only needed you for this, I'm no bad guy, just a jerk. But you should turn yourself in, take responsibility."

"Turn myself in!? Pah, as if!"

"Well it's either you admit the crime, even if you've gotta make up how you did the crime, or the guy who hired you comes after you."

Rising Flame's face paled greatly, just as Josuke expected.

"I know that guy, and he doesn't care for anyone but himself. You almost killed everyone here man, you've got to own up to that."

He then thumbed to Principal Celestia.

"And she now knows your face. You really shoulda thought this all through."

Josuke let the boy go, watching him scurry away as the walls began to reform and heal, turning to Principal Celestia with a shrug.

"You must be really los-"

"A man from your hometown wants you dead by any means he deems necessary, going as far as to following you overseas and using others to hide himself."

"Okay so you got the gist of it. See why I have to leave? I can't put anymore people in danger. I'm sorry about all this, it just happened so suddenly, and on my first day too. Great..."

"As much of a surprise it is, I still implore you to stay Mr. Joestar."

"Huh? D-Did you not just hear what's been going on?"

"I also noticed that certain things you fix become warped when your emotional. Like that boy, some parts of the walls and lockers, and a few locks of hair stick up on end. I noticed that last part earlier today."

"... Yeesh, you're a scary lady to note all that."

"I take my job seriously, and as stated before, you are still one of my students. Even if you are new, I have to do all I can to help you."

He groaned as the second floor began to form and put itself back together much faster than the first. In fact, in a matter of minuets, the whole building was brand new.

"Yare Yare, you're making this difficult. Okay Principal Celestia, you win."

"As usual."

"Only if you keep this stuff with you the grave. I mean, this is kind of crazy stuff has been my entire life, and I still think it's ridiculous."

"I promise. You should have been here quite sometime ago, we've had quite the spectacles as of late."

"Yikes, and here I thought I could finally run away from my problems! ... Thanks Principal Celestia."

"Only doing my job, thank you for fixing the school, does it take much out of you to fix things like this?"

"That's like asking if my knuckles hurt, the answer's still no. Besides, I've got to thank you for hearing me out and believing all this mess. It's really late so when I'm done here I'll head home ma'am."

"And how will I explain the building suddenly coming back?"

He shrugged without another word. He didn't know himself, he was debating on just coming out, but he wanted to be extra careful. For not just him, but everyone at Canterlot High, the wheels of fate were turning. Only time would tell what would happen from here.
