Josuke in Canterlot Highby Deparde Quizno
Chapters
1. A Beautiful Duwang
Sunset Shimmer had seen many strange things in her life so far, especially in Canterlot High, but at the moment of closing her locker and looking down the hall. She found another contender for odd sights in the school year. A tall man with a lean yet above average muscle build, a well structured face with a calm cheery smile, and a bizarre hairdo was walking down the hall with a bookbag slung over his shoulder. A rather weird pompadour that stuck out almost crudely. Then she noticed what he was wearing and found herself torn between laughter and amazement. It was as if Rarity had dressed him herself. He wore a midnight black stiff collared jacket that ended before his abdomen, the back of it had a gold star with a ring around the edges. On the ring were eight strange symbols, a face with tiny fangs, a jewel pendant, a rectangular palm, a peace sign, a lady bug, a small dagger pointed to the ground with butterfly wings on the side, a horseshoe, and an anchor. On the ring itself were numerous stars. A T-shirt with a psychedelic flower pattern of a variety of bright colors. Two golden pins on each shoulder, the left being a heart, and a peace sign on the right. A multitude of rainbows going over and under, coiling and flying all over the flowers and stems, all of them swirling to his chest where a violet star with a gold glittering trim on his chest. He wore a three golden chains around neck, two with a golden diamond shaped emblem and one shiny platinum heart emblem, and two cloth bracelets with tessellated triangles on the left wrist. He wore tan slacks with golden studs on the sides, colorful flower petals surrounding each stud as those petals also had their own petals. Laceless black leather shoes with black socks. All in all a vibrant but tough looking guy. Everyone in the hallway were having similar feelings upon seeing the new kid. Some of the students were giggling and snickering at his hair, others were wondering if he was a new student or faculty member. He approached Sunset Shimmer rubbing his neck with a nervous chuckle. He started to speak in a weird language but stopped himself shortly before speaking through a thick accent.
"Sorry to bother you, can you help me, please?"
"Sure. What do you need?"
"I am the new kid. Looking for my classroom, I can't exactly find it."
"Oh that's not a problem, you've got your schedule, right?"
He nodded and handed over his schedule, folded up and carrying a bit of lint from his pocket. As she looked it over she saw they had three classes together. Literature and Physics.
"Hey, we've got two classes and Homeroom with each other! I'm Sunset Shimmer, what's your name?"
"Josuke Joestar. You can call me JoJo!"
"Alright JoJo, this way."
She gave him a quick tour around the school as she lead him through the halls. Passing by classroom after classroom, she taught him how to tell each hall apart by their number.
"Say, you've been quiet for sometime. Why don't you tell me about yourself?"
"Where do I start?"
"Well how about where you're from?"
"Umapan, it's overseas. We came over here for some more quiet life style."
"I'm not so sure you'll find that here. Things can get a little-"
A small but loud bang from a classroom in front of them. Two students ran out coughing and laughing covered in a strange smell and some smoke.
"Explosive. But I promise you'll like it here. JoJo?"
Sunset Shimmer turned around and saw him up against the lockers, denting them as he pushed himself back. He was sweating slightly and slowly hyperventilating, true terror were in his eyes. She reached out to him and shook his shoulder slightly, finally snapping him out of his panic.
"J-JoJo?! Are you okay, what's wrong?"
"N-Nothing! Just a phobia of sudden noises. Sumimasen, sorry."
"Oh man that's real rough. How do you deal with it?"
"Don't worry about it, I only get like that if I don't see it coming. Oh no, I broke something again."
"These lockers aren't exactly the sturdiest but, you did do a number on a few of them."
"I'll fix it in no time."
"Huh-"
He raised his free hand as it soon blurred, the damaged part of the lockers looking brand new in an instant.
"There. Great condition, yeah?"
"How'd you do that!?"
"I don't know. I can just fix things and break things, never gave it any real thought."
JoJo shrugged, not noticing or caring at the new odd looks on the students faces in the hallways. Sunset Shimmer didn't know what to make of that herself and proceeded with the tour, and trying to find more about him.
"So, how about you? Any hobbies or likes? I know you're afraid of loud sudden noises."
"Heh, uhm, I guess I like helping people and fixing things. Definitely love me some video games but, that's a common thing."
"You sound like you're making yourself out to be pretty simple."
"I am, not really all that interesting, sorry."
"Don't be sorry, that's not a problem anyways. But, how long have you been fixing things like that?"
"Oh man, since I was six! I got it with this super slick smokin' stylish haircut! Great ain't it?"
He turned with a strange pose, he wasn't the most interesting talker, but she did admit he was interesting to watch. She couldn't help but let out a small chuckle.
"I guess it really is something, I've never seen that before."
"That only proves how much of a smoove guy I am!~"
"Yeah well, Mr. Smoove is going to have get to know people around here. Think you can manage that?"
"Might be a little hard, but I'm sure I can."
"Well you can always ask me for any help, I was sort of a foreigner around here too at one point, but you'll make friends soon."
The day went on, as normal as Canterlot High can get, but as soon as lunchtime came so did another incident. Sunset Shimmer sat by her friends at their usual table. Pinkie Pie making food people, Applejack inhaled her food, Fluttershy stored some for her small animal friends, Rainbow Dash competed with Applejack for who could finish first. Sunset Shimmer had noticed a certain fashionista had been missing.
"Hey, where's Rarity?"
Pinkie Pie perked up and pointed without looking over to where JoJo sat nearly alone, save for Rarity, both of them excited over something.
"She's been with the guy with the weird hair! I mean, have you seen that thing?"
"Yeah I have, that's a new kid from Umapan? His name's JoJo. I think I have an idea what they're on about."
Rainbow Dash finished and swallowed the last of the food to speak.
"It's probably about what happened in Math today."
"Oh right!"
Sunset Shimmer raised a brow at the two, Applejack proclaiming victory and getting into a small argument with Rainbow Dash.
"What happened in Math?"
"So we're waiting for lunch, right? And someone gets their phone out about this chemical project for non-lethal explosions. So we all huddle over to watch the video, and when it gets to the boom, he jumps back and falls breaking the desk behind him!"
"Oh boy."
"But then he fixes it just like that, and that desk was in few pieces, but by the time he does his thing it even has this weird sheen to it!"
"Like it was brand new, right? I was showing him around when that project was being done. He looked like he had seen a ghost and broke a few lockers, then just somehow fixed them."
Fluttershy spoke up next, having finished her own meal.
"I saw him right before school started, he helped a turtle across the road, even though I found out later he's scared of reptiles."
"I didn't know that. What about you Applejack?"
Applejack stopped arguing and looked over to JoJo and Rarity before shrugging.
"I ain't got a clue what to make out of him, seems like a nice guy. Just a bit silly with that hair of his."
"Well we'll all just have to wait and see. Speaking of, hey Rarity, what'd you think of JoJo?"
Rarity sat down with a content smile beaming from her face.
"I think he's quite the gentleman! He could use a bit work on that confidence, but otherwise utterly a doll!"
"One you can dress up like a Barbie?"
"Absolutely!"
After lunch Sunset Shimmer began to work on the school paper in the Computer Room. Nearing the end of an article, a sudden rumble with a thunderous boom echoed, followed by the fire alarm. Leaving with a crowd of students, she wondered what was going happening, no one could tell if it was a prank or something serious. Then they arrived outside and saw the awful sight, the right hand building collapsed and burning intensely, and upon counting it had seemed all the students within the burning building hadn't made it out. It didn't take long for the firefighters to come and put the fire out, but everyone feared for the worse. As soon as they started lifting debris they stopped upon hearing a faint sound. A fist came right through the debris below them as if it were styrofoam. Soon a flurry of fists began to tunnel and make an exit for everyone underneath. Students and teachers covered in dust and ash, but only a single one was injured and burnt. Everyone was accounted for. JoJo, the one who dug them all out with his fist alone, smiled carelessly as he pulled out a comb to fix his hair. He was the only one with any injuries, clearly from the explosion itself as well as his knuckles from digging away at the stone. She ran over to him worried but relieved everyone had made it.
"What happened!?"
"I don't know. One minuet we're in gym, the next thing I know is fire starts going everywhere. It was pretty scary but everyone is in Great condition."
"You're not in 'great' condition at all! Your hands are hurt badly-"
"Nah, I'm fine it doesn't hurt at all."
"Still, just look at them! You can't tell me that's healthy. And you've got bruises all over you!"
"Well, my mom's gonna kill me for ruining this jacket, but I'm sure I'll make it."
He took a good look at his hands before shrugging and putting them in his pockets.
"See? It's nothing really, thanks for caring though."
"Why are you just shrugging all of this off?"
"I've been in these kinds of situations back home. It's why we moved."
At that moment a small cough was heard. Sunset Shimmer turned around to see Principal Celestia standing behind her.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, but I was hoping if I could ask you a few questions, sir?"
"Yes ma'am."
Sunset Shimmer withdrew coolly as everyone went home. That night she decided to try and find more things about him, looking up his name on the internet. She was surprised what she had found. On a site about cursed people were a family of unsung tragic heroes only recently being discovered, the Joestar Family. Having had dealings of both natural and paranormal trials, what few members of the family there were, usually met an untimely end with a life full of hardships. Still as tragic as they were they always put others before themselves, their deaths were usually to save others lives by giving their own. She couldn't believe most of what she read but from her own experiences, she couldn't just ignore this. The next time she saw him she would be sure to confront him. There was one last thing that also bothered her. All the family members that had died were nicknamed JoJo. Sighing she went to bed, hoping for things to settle down and not get out of hands this time, but deep down she knew this was only wishful thinking.
2. A Mouthful of Chew
Josuke was deep in it now. The principal of his new school was right in front of him with a serious look in her eye, and it was only the first day of school, of course something had to happen. Principal Celestia shook her head with a sigh as she held her hand out, a small yet warm smile on her face.
"I want to thank you first, for saving everyone as you did, and I want to apologize to you for having such an awful first day of school."
He looked down at her hand for a moment, then back to her, smiling brightly with a genuine chuckle as he shook her hand.
"Are you kidding? Aside from the rubble behind me, this day has been awesome, Great even! Everyone was so nice and friendly, it's a real shame about all this. If anything, I'm sorry... Uh, ma'am?"
He tilted his head a bit in confusion, she had been staring at his knuckles with a concerned face, then trailed his arm to his face with her gaze.
"I can see the bone, Mr. Joestar, and you've clearly have burns on your arms. Either you're a very good liar, or you really are used to injuries like these."
"W-Well it's nothing to worry about-"
"I heard from a student you saved what you did to the injured. Before you dug them out."
He flinched. He was okay with people knowing he could fix things like chairs, lockers, and even doors. But he didn't want people to know about his real power.
"I... Can we please keep it a secret?"
"I won't have gossip in my school, but I do have to ask, why aren't you healing yourself?"
"Can't. Don't know why, but I can fix anything but me. Not that it matters anyways."
"Is this magic? We've had a few events dealing with that."
"I'm not sure, I guess it is. But like I said, you don't have to worry about it, I'll be leaving town soon anyways."
"What? You can't just start then end school in one day, Mr. Joestar."
"It's real important I go. This was all my fault, I'll let you know that, and it's best for everyone if I just left."
"Not without explaining why first. Something happened here that you know, and I don't, so please tell me so we can alert the authorities if we have to."
Josuke looked down, letting out a soft sigh. As he lifted his head, Principal Celestia could have sworn she was talking to someone else. From nervous and evasive, Josuke had suddenly donned a grim expression with an utterly serious demeanor.
"It's something I can't let anyone be apart of. I'm sorry ma'am, but you'll just have to deal with it."
Then it was Josuke's turn to be surprised as Principal Celestia returned the look, gently squeezing his hand.
"And I'm sorry, but you're still my student, and I look after my students. Mr. Joestar I'll ask again. What really happened in there."
He was stuck in a corner and couldn't do anything but give in, and she knew it. Rubbing his neck and groaning loudly, he went back to his meek manner.
"Alright, alright, you win ma'am! But on one condition!"
"Name it and I'll decide if we can agree to it."
"We meet back here after nightfall. I promise to tell you all I can."
"I'm sure you'll keep your word."
"I will... Could you please let go of my hand now?"
She let got of his hand as he gave quick bow before leaving for home. As he made his way home he felt that old creeping feeling. He was being watched by someone hiding, and did his best to ignore it as he entered his new house.
"Mom, I'm hom- Urk!"
He was pulled down by what was left of his shirt to eye level with his mother, eyes boring into his soul. Nothing scared him more than making his mom angry.
"What in the hell happened to you!? Look at you, you're a dusty dirty mess! You didn't get in a fight in school again, did you?"
"Oi, oi, oi calm down already! I didn't fight anyone from school, just got into a hot spot, alright?"
"Hot is right, you smell like burnt hair products, what in the world did you do to ruin that perfect jacket! And you worked both of us half to death on making that stupid shirt."
"This shirt is still godlike! I don't know what kind of blindness you've been diagnosed with to not see otherwise."
"The same kind you have, you still think that hair is still sociably acceptable, I'm surprised you didn't get arrested for public nudity."
"Mom leave the do alone, it did nothing wrong, besides there was fire at the school and we got out in time."
"I see your hands, young man, what happened to those?"
"There were a few obstacles but I knocked them down."
"Uh-Huh. Sure. Just clean the floor you just dirtied up."
"Actually Mom, I've got to leave as soon as sundown."
"Josuke! You're not going out to meet women already are yo-"
"Mom, no! It's just the principal from school."
"Oh my God, my son's a cougar hunter!"
"Mom I'm not you, I plan on getting married first, and with someone near my age."
"Shut up and get your dinner already!"
"Cook the food so I can eat it already!"
Josuke loved his mother being the supportive woman she was. Even as she gave him constant flack for his hair, she never stopped him from being himself, and always helped him whenever she could. He'd never tell her but in his eyes she was an ideal woman. He washed up and ate his meal while watching TV. Of course the explosion was on, but to his surprise they kept his story down. All that was shown was the dousing of the flames. Night was soon upon him and he had to get back to the school.
"Mom I'll be back in an hour or two."
"You're not planning on eloping yet, are you?"
"I'M GONE!"
"IT WAS AN HONEST QUESTION-"
Slamming the door behind him, he walked back to school. That feeling was gone, but he knew whoever was watching them hadn't left entirely. He found the school and sat by the rubble of the right hand building. Within moments, Principal Celestia came, approaching him with her arms folded.
"So, where do we start?"
"With a warning. Ma'am, the people are Great and deserve a happy life. If I stay here, if you hear what I have to say and see what I'm about to do, we're in for a world of headaches. Are you really sure about this?"
She took a step forward and nodded.
"I've seen quite a few bizarre things as principal here. I'm sure I can handle this."
"... Yes ma'am."
He offered a hand to her, upon taking it, began to walk among the rubble. Then it happened. The building began to reconstruct itself slowly.
"In the gym, it was pretty nice. We were doing simple stuff, exercises and such, but one kid was different."
"Different?"
"They weren't doing anything for a while. They had a lighter in hand and kept flickering it on and off."
"You're saying they started the fire."
"Yep. Each time they turned the lighter off, the fire stayed and grew. No one was paying too much attention until we noticed the rise in temperature in the room."
"What?!"
"The fire started eating away at the building, starting with any exits. That's why if we look at the doors now."
They turned and saw the doors were burnt horribly, almost to ashes.
"It's really hard to fix them. The walls also got the most damage."
"How did you figure this out?"
"Easy. I knew at once it wasn't normal, and they were the only one who were calm. That and they told me in person, ain't that right, buddy?"
Josuke kicked a chunk of debris away to reveal a young man underneath. His body was weirdly shaped and badly proportioned. He shivered at the sight of Josuke and tried to squirm away but was lifted into the air by his neck.
"Hey, hey, no hard feelings, right? I fixed you too, just had a bit of trouble with it since we were both a bit heated up."
"Y-Y-You're crazy! You think this is fixed!?"
"Yeah, because I could've just left you under there with nothing, not even air to breathe. By the way this is Principal Celestia, ma'am this is-"
Josuke shook him, getting a yelp as his body began to slowly return to more normal form, below average height and skinny frame. His short hair was like a dull fire, badly lit in a dank environment.
"R-Rising Flame! I'm-I'm not even supposed to be at this school! Some guy just gave me alot of money to burn the place with you in it okay?! J-Just don't hit me again!"
"I only needed you for this, I'm no bad guy, just a jerk. But you should turn yourself in, take responsibility."
"Turn myself in!? Pah, as if!"
"Well it's either you admit the crime, even if you've gotta make up how you did the crime, or the guy who hired you comes after you."
Rising Flame's face paled greatly, just as Josuke expected.
"I know that guy, and he doesn't care for anyone but himself. You almost killed everyone here man, you've got to own up to that."
He then thumbed to Principal Celestia.
"And she now knows your face. You really shoulda thought this all through."
Josuke let the boy go, watching him scurry away as the walls began to reform and heal, turning to Principal Celestia with a shrug.
"You must be really los-"
"A man from your hometown wants you dead by any means he deems necessary, going as far as to following you overseas and using others to hide himself."
"Okay so you got the gist of it. See why I have to leave? I can't put anymore people in danger. I'm sorry about all this, it just happened so suddenly, and on my first day too. Great..."
"As much of a surprise it is, I still implore you to stay Mr. Joestar."
"Huh? D-Did you not just hear what's been going on?"
"I also noticed that certain things you fix become warped when your emotional. Like that boy, some parts of the walls and lockers, and a few locks of hair stick up on end. I noticed that last part earlier today."
"... Yeesh, you're a scary lady to note all that."
"I take my job seriously, and as stated before, you are still one of my students. Even if you are new, I have to do all I can to help you."
He groaned as the second floor began to form and put itself back together much faster than the first. In fact, in a matter of minuets, the whole building was brand new.
"Yare Yare, you're making this difficult. Okay Principal Celestia, you win."
"As usual."
"Only if you keep this stuff with you the grave. I mean, this is kind of crazy stuff has been my entire life, and I still think it's ridiculous."
"I promise. You should have been here quite sometime ago, we've had quite the spectacles as of late."
"Yikes, and here I thought I could finally run away from my problems! ... Thanks Principal Celestia."
"Only doing my job, thank you for fixing the school, does it take much out of you to fix things like this?"
"That's like asking if my knuckles hurt, the answer's still no. Besides, I've got to thank you for hearing me out and believing all this mess. It's really late so when I'm done here I'll head home ma'am."
"And how will I explain the building suddenly coming back?"
He shrugged without another word. He didn't know himself, he was debating on just coming out, but he wanted to be extra careful. For not just him, but everyone at Canterlot High, the wheels of fate were turning. Only time would tell what would happen from here.
3. Face is the Strong
School had been delayed, but continued on, it was even an early release day. Many students didn't return and none would be punished for it. Those that did were amazed at the sudden reconstruction of the school, one of them being Sunset Shimmer. In truth she was there to reassure her fellow students, and confront Josuke, however she couldn't find him anywhere. She was early to school and waited until the last few minuets of the morning bell, only a small handful of students came. There was one person there before, but it was simply a homeless man with a hoodie over his head. After first period she found him in the hallways, smashing lockers with a bored expression on his face, he was wearing the exact same clothes as before but without the accessories of the necklace and bracelets.
"Hey, JoJo, what're you doing?! You know those aren't yours, right?"
"Psh. like I should care. I do whatever I want, and I wanna break something."
"Huh? That, makes almost no sense. Are you feeling okay?"
"What'd you think, honey? After yesterday, I'm all kinds of worked up."
"Who wouldn't be, but shouldn't you let your hands heal rather than break them some more?"
He held his hands up, they were more rigid than usual, almost claw like. However his hands were just fine.
"If I got the time to worry about something then I've got the time do something about it. Wouldn't you agree?"
"I'm not sure."
He scoffed and almost knocked her into a locker herself upon bumping her with his shoulder. She turned to him, confused at his sudden change in personality, but then remembered what she needed from him.
"Hey! I've got a question about your family!"
He didn't even turn around, just kept walking as he spat on the ground.
"Who cares about stupid crap like that? I've gotta a date with a hottie anyways, see ya."
"Hotti- I said wait... Ugh!"
She stomped down a foot in frustration. She then felt a hand on her shoulder and found it belonged to Flash Sentry.
"Wow. That was, weird."
"No kidding. What're you doing here?"
"Well someone's gotta look after the other students, and I was wondering if he could help me out with that, but I don't know if he's going to act like that."
"Something's off here, and I'll make sure to get to the bottom of it."
There was only second period and lunch left. Only Applejack and Rarity were at the usual table today, both looking rather upset. Sunset Shimmer sat down with a raised brow with Applejack pointing at her, almost accusingly.
"Your new guy went from hero to zero, just like that, y'know. Boy's a nasty piece of work."
"I concur! He was such a gentleman yesterday, but when I talked to him earlier, he was as slimy as a toady dumped in a murky swamp!"
Now that was weird. She looked over to see him sitting back with his feet on the table and using a student to lean on as he laid back.
"I'm not sure about this myself, he's acting like nothing before. School's about to be over in a few minuets, maybe we can figure out what's up with him then?"
"For his sake, darling, I hope so."
The bell rang and with it students began leaving, JoJo leaning on the statue staring ahead as he picked his nose. Sunset Shimmer shook the disgust off of her face and tapped his shoulder a bit. Not getting a response, she folded her arms at him.
"JoJo, can you at least look at me when we talk?"
"Why would I wanna talk to some ugly broad?"
"What's with the sudden hostility? Yesterday you were nothing like this."
"And? Guess you didn't know me as well as you thought. Where do you get off at, thinking you know people so well."
His eyes moved to her as he wiped his hands on his pants, cracking his knuckles.
"In fact, I think you need a lesson on minding your own business."
"Huh?!"
"You heard me, nosy. Well, I won't be able to call you that soon, since I'll knock your stupid nose off!"
He threw a slap to her face, forcing her to stumble back a few steps, and into Flash Sentry's arms.
"Hey, what the heck is wrong with you!?"
"Only putting a girl where she belongs. Don't need her finger up in all my pie."
"Just because you did one cool thing doesn't mean you can just act like you own the place!"
"Says you. You think you can take me on, beta male? I'll knock you on your face with your butt in the air and my foot planted right on it."
Flash Sentry landed a solid punch right into JoJo's nose. Connecting, he smiled and rubbed his fist in as JoJo began to fall back. His face cracked up slightly rather than bruise.
"I knew you were all ta-"
JoJo grabbed Flash's wrists and strafed to the side as he pulled him, lifting a knee into his gut, and slamming his head into the pavement. As he tried to get up, JoJo kicked him in the side, forcing him to stay down with his rear up and a foot planted right on top of it.
"What'd I tell ya, chump? I am the strong and you're the super reatard."
"Ngh... You and your ugly hair can go jump off a cliff!"
"Hey, my hair is pretty ugly, but I think I'll ju-"
JoJo was interrupted by a loud crunchy punch that forced him off of Flash Sentry, the cause belonging to the bum from earlier. He lowered his hood and revealed, Josuke. A very, very, livid JoJo. Strands of hair stuck up from his pompadour as he started pounding away at the other.
"Anata wa watashi no kami ni tsuite nan jigoku iimashita ka?!"
"I-I DON'T UNDERSTA-AUGH!"
The fake one began to break apart, like frail armor. With one final punch, the face and fake hair had been blasted away, underneath it all was a thin boy with what was once a rather handsome face. Now it was beaten badly. He tried to crawl away but was lifted up by JoJo.
"What I said was, What the Hell did you say about my hair!? And then you're beating up my friends too?"
"I-I'M SORRY! I w-was just doi-doing my job! Someone wanted you to be in the bad light, and I was just the guy to do it! No-N-Nothing personal, right? You're not gonna hit me anymore, right!?
Flash smirked and stood up rubbing his neck as JoJo raised a brow. Then it clicked in his head.
"WHAT!?"
JoJo looked around and noticed the small confused, yet somewhat relieved crowd before letting go of his imposter as something dawned on him, tears began to form in his eyes.
"Wait... How long have I been asleep? Oh No! DID I MISS SCHOOL! ? !"
"Yeah, but it was early release, and not a lot of students came by anyways. School was even delayed since they were wondering if to keep it open for the time being."
"Oh. Oh cool. I was about to cry, whew! Speaking of crying..."
He went from distressed back to a menacing giant, looming over the imposter who was shivering in fear.
"You've gotta lot of apologizing to do, y'know that, right? And not to me. Not yet."
The imposter got on his knees and started to beg everyone he bullied while faked being JoJo. The last one he apologized to before running off was Sunset Shimmer, holding her head up to keep the blood from running down her nose.
"Here, let me."
JoJo hand blurred as he pinched her nose with a silly grin. She was healed in an instant. He shook her head a bit with a small chuckle.
"Got your nose, fixed and cleaned! All in Great condition!"
"Yeah, yeah, but I have to ask. Why would anyone want to ruin you?"
He only shrugged as he asked what the imposter did, fixing the lockers, apologizing to those he bullied. To his surprise when he finished Sunset Shimmer ws still outside waiting for him.
"Yo, you needed something?"
"Yeah, I've been meaning to ask you how much you know about your family."
"Eh? That's a weird thing to ask someone, but I guess we're bunch of tough people? That's all mom told me."
"Well, are you still going to leave?"
"Nah, I already like the place too much to leave, you guys really are Great here."
"Yeah but, I wonder what'll happen next. First a fire, then an impersonator... And how'd that building get fixed over night?"
"I'unno. I think whoever did was just rushing."
"You're an awful liar. JoJo, how long did it take you to fix the whole place?"
"... Uhm, enough time for me to sleep past school?"
He chuckled as she rolled her eyes. Far off into town, the imposter had taken another form of a passing stranger, and hid in an alley. Then he heard the cold voice.
"You screwed up."
"Look! I didn't know the guy was a tank of a goody two shoes with the baddest of tantrums! If anything, I should still get paid for this."
"Even after you've failed me? It's not like you were in danger of dying. But, you did do one thing right. I'll pay you just as promised."
"Good! Now hand the cash over."
The figure offered a tack of cash, the imposter snatching and counting it. Then he noticed his veins becoming thicker, his whole body became more vascular. He felt like he was growing, inflating. Fear overridden him, yet he couldn't scream. No one heard the boom in the alley or the smoke coming from it. He pulled out a phone and dialed a number and waited for them to pick up.
"... Yes. It's me. You have your opening and your time limit. Do not delay, I gave you plenty of time. I have the utmost faith in you. Be sure to make it look like an accident... Yes, you can record it for later, I don't care. Good, good, I'm counting on you."
4. Sick Bay Not Green Day
On a rather cold and windy day, Rarity had stayed after school to help JoJo get better at speaking. She didn't know why he asked her but she accepted anyways. That was two days ago, yesterday being the day an imposter stole his identity, who made several uncomfortable advances on her. Today she waited for her new student to arrive in the library and started to feel tired, and somewhat sickly. She noticed other students around began coughing as well, some even sneezing loudly. JoJo arrived blowing his nose into a napkin, looking absolutely dreadful. He sat down with a groan but smiling nonetheless.
"Hey! You uh, ready for th- ACHOO! The lesson?"
"Actually, JoJo, I don't feel too good myself. Could we postpone this?"
"Sure, I wish I could cure illness, but that doesn't count as being broken."
"Ugh, seriously? I wonder what's got everyone so sick..."
"I'unno, hope it wasn't me."
"No, I remember seeing some having it before first period today. Must be a passing cold. I'm sure it'll just blow over."
"Well, I hate to have wasted your time here, maybe I can walk ya home as an apology?"
"Hm, I would suppose that wouldn't be too bad... You are the real JoJo, yes?"
"You know anyone else with an amazingly Great hairstyle and awesome friends names Josuke?"
"Just making sure."
As they left they noticed the strange atmosphere. Green and sickly. As they made their way into town, they could hear several coughs and groans. Even traffic had been held to a halt. Rarity couldn't help but slow down as she wondered what was happening. Even JoJo tensed up as he eyed the area.
"I'm starting to think it's more than a pandemic..."
People passed out, spots and boils, pimples and open sores. Rarity felt her own face in reflex and used her phone to see her reflection. No spots on her skin but her eyes were bloodshot, and JoJo had began getting spots on his neck. Then in moments, both were experiencing odd wounds on their bodies.
"O-Oh My! What is this?!"
"Oi, Rarity. You'll have to find another way home."
"What?"
She followed his gaze straight ahead. A car that pulled onto the sidewalk. Upon opening, a white gloved hand grabbed the door as a white dress shoe stepped outside. The figure wore a surgical mask and was dressed in a doctors jacket with rubber gloves and violet goggles. They had no hair and walked with a limp, slowly and dragging a foot. They were above average height and held their hands out as if reaching for the two teens. One hand had a camera.
"..."
"Are you the one who's been causing all this?"
"Height. One hundred and eighty five centimeters. Weight. Eighty two kilograms. Blood type, B. Age. Sixteen. Name. Josuke Higashikata. Legally changed to Josuke Higashikata Joestar."
"Wh-Whoa, whoa, who are you?!"
The masked man looked to Rarity, and spoke the same strange facts about her. Both of them took a step back. JoJo looked down to Rarity and pushed her behind him.
"Look. I bet I got an idea what this is about. Just target me alone. She has nothing to do with this."
"You misunderstand the situation, Mr. Joestar."
He took off the surgical mask and goggles. His face horribly blemished and wandering eyes, never did they aligned. Both JoJo and Rarity took another step back as he kept marching forward.
"I too am a victim of my ability. But unlike man, who fear for their death, I see the beauty of release. It is my duty before I go, to record as many deaths, beautiful and drawn out deaths. Many as stars, I must record."
"Dude you need a real hobby, like bird watchin-"
A small flock of pigeons fell from the sky, slowly molting. Rarity pulled on JoJo's arm.
"JoJo, darling, I-I believe this is one of those moments where we run to fight another day?"
"Yeah I'm starting to think so too! Let's get outta-"
JoJo turned to the street as another door opened up. A woman was crying holding her son who was barely breathing. She was calling out for help, barely able to breathe herself. Rarity was heartbroken but pulled away at JoJo. She needed to find a way to cure all of this and she was sure her friends could help. However she found herself stuck and looked back JoJo. She's seen him mad before, but yesterday paled in comparison of this moment, and it didn't help the doctor had been cooing as he recorded the woman in her despair.
"Such anguish, such wondrous pain, ooooh how her cries ease my suffering sou-"
The doctor couldn't see out of one of his eyes. JoJo not only punched him, but the camera had been shoved into his eye. He leaned back moaning lowly, as JoJo snarled.
"Who the Hell do you think are!? Do you think just because you've got something special you can abuse it?! I'M SICK OF GUYS LIKE YOU!"
"JoJo, your arm!"
He glanced down at the hand he used to punch the man, it began to break out horribly, even the skin began to shrivel slightly. He tore the sleeve off to see it stop spreading right below the shoulder. The doctor looked over and clapped in joy.
"Yes, YES! Gooood!~ Excellent! Such greatness! The camera is still recording as well, this is perfect!"
JoJo turned as he heard Rarity scream. She had her hand to her eye before he felt a sharp agonizing pain in his own eye. The doctor chortled jovially.
"HOHOHOHOHOHAAHOHAOHAOOA! You fool!~ This is what I can do! Any harm to me , my suffering, is shared with those of a grand radius! You harm me, and you and all of them shall feel my pain!"
"Wait... So, it's not sickness? It's your injuries too?"
"But of course! I have a several illnesses, as well as these are untreated wounds that I regularly re-open and allow to fester! That arm injury was from skidding onto the pavement from that blow from earlier, the shriveling of the skin now showing on all of the surrounding patients arms! Please, give me more, share with me suffering!"
"... And what's with the camera. Is that your hobby?"
"It's how I capture the suffering, how I am able to maintain myself, to-"
"So it gives you, your power, right?"
"As long as I have a window to my soul and the world, all shall share my misery! This And Any Camera Are The Gateways to My Soul!"
"... Great."
JoJo grabbed the doctor by the hand and throat, and swung him over head. The back meeting the ground as JoJo raised a foot and look to Rarity.
"Hey, Rarity. I'll fix everyone up in a second."
"Wait, JoJo what're you-"
Her eyes widen as she saw the foot coming down on the elbow and closed her eyes waiting for the pain. The doctor's arm was just fine, in fact he pulled JoJo down and slammed his head to the pavement. His hair ruined as the doctor sprang up and recorded the groaning teen.
"How articulate. That struggle to survive, monumentous! But you see dear boy, do you really think that is all? With each person that suffers, their health, their life gives me strength!"
The doctor kicked him a few times before he stomped down as a knife shot from the tip of the shoe. He began to kick him once more as JoJo snarled, but did nothing. If he hit him, everyone around him would feel that pain. If he didn't he'll be in a world of pain. The doctor was having the time of his life and Rarity took the opportunity. She didn't grab his hands, but the glove itself, pulling away and taking the camera with the glove. She caught it in the air and threw it to the ground, smashing it. The doctor grabbed her by the throat and began to strangle her.
"You scandalous, butterfingered, pasty white, ugly hag of a wench! Do you realize what you've done!?"
"Yeah. She did a Great job."
The doctor turned to see a most terrifying sight. In his eyes, the largest fist in the world was coming down at him at speeds unknown to man. Lifted into the air and denting a car door. Everything began to recover on their own. The air became cleaner, sores and boils, wounds on the drivers and bystanders were healing as they looked around confused. JoJo himself shed his coat and gave to the ill boy, still having trouble breathing. He learned the family was struggling, as it was only the mother and the boy. He smiled and even gave his three gold chains.
"If your AC don't work lady, have this, you can get some money with those. You can keep the jacket too. Have a Great day."
She looked around for the doctor but couldn't find him. Then she noticed in his place was a confused yet beautifully effeminate man with short shaved head, save for his sickly pale skin and strange spots on his neck. JoJo loomed over him and picked him up before elbowing him lightly.
"Hey man, I don't know why you did all that, but you should seek some help. You like to record stuff right? So try recording more positive stuff man, you'd be surprised what you might feel."
"... Y-You heal and send me on my way? After all I did?"
"Bro, I don't just beat up people I don't like, that'd make me some kind of violent brute, or something. Some things you've gotta fix with a good talk. That and, honestly I don't like hitting people. Great talk man, Great talk."
He patted the doctor's back and helped Rarity up with a sheepish grin.
"S-So, sorry about, the whole event. I, uh, bet you just want to go home."
He started to walk past her but she grabbed his arm with a sigh.
"Yes. And I'd like a bodyguard on the way, you got me into this, you're getting me out my dear."
"Uh- I mean! Yes ma'am."
He gave a salute as she held her head high, both making their way to Rarity's home, this time with nothing jumping out at them. However they did not go in silence.
"JoJo, may I ask a question?"
"Yeah, what's up?"
"How often do you deal with people like, that? This has been the second time within the week!"
"Oh. Well, I'unno how to answer that actually. But really it was you who dealt with him. Smashing that camera was Great call."
"How did you know that would work?"
"Didn't. But, I couldn't let you and those people just, suffer. That doctor guy was pretty smart. If he wanted to, he could have done a lot worse than he did."
"But, he did do quite a bit."
"That's why I didn't apologize about punching him. But it's also why I didn't just beat him down. I mean, I'd like to think everyone has a second chance to be good, y'know? He sounded... Lonely."
"Are you sure he wasn't just mad?"
"Oh he's got more screws loose than a wooden rollercoaster, now you're making think I shoulda beat him down or something."
"Maybe what you did was right, we can't know until time tells. This is my stop... Your English isn't so bad, did you really need any tutorship with that?"
"Nah, but you're real nice to hang around. Hey! I was wondering, if you could help me make a few accessories."
"Ooh?~ What for?"
"That's my little secret for the moment. You interested?"
"Only if we don't have to deal with a villain of the day schedule, I'll think about it."
He waved and chuckled as he left. Neither of the two noticing the pair of eyes watching them from afar. The figure holding a small paper bag held close to his face.
"We'll go to our picnic soon. We can hold each other there, I'll be sure to take care of you."
He looked into the bag and sneered before closing it again. Truly he loved meeting new women.
5. Another One Bites
JoJo was happy today. Not a single attack by a creep, he didn't have to fix anything or anyone, and that turtle he found on his first day hasn't come back to haunt him. The weather was nice and the air clean, people joyous, and things have been peaceful. And then he got home. His mother was sharing similar feelings as she was humming to herself, modeling in a beautiful red velvet dress JoJo never saw before.
"Hey Mom, what's with the new dress? Is our favorite nephew coming by?"
"Boy I'd slap that tongue out of your mouth if it weren't for such a fantastic day! For the first time in a long time, I've gotten a real date with a real man!"
"Oh. Oh, you're serious. Oh dear lord, you're dead serious."
"What?"
"I just can't believe it... All this time I thought you didn't believe in love. For the longest time I used to think you adopted me!"
"Josuke nothing you can say will ruin my mood! You should meet him, I swear you'll love him!"
There was a knock on the door as she near squealed in excitement running over to open it.
"How do I look? Stunning? Seductive? Charming?"
"Desperate?"
"Psh! You get your looks from me, and I look Great!"
"You always do. Now hurry up and answer the door."
She swung it right open and even gestured to the man in front of them proudly, and like that, JoJo's Great Day had turned into Hell. The man had light blonde hair that was combed back with few free strands, light grey eyes and fairly light skin. He wore a black and thin white pin stripe suit with a pink tie with purple broken hearts and solid ones in alternating pattern. Dark leather shoes and two rings on each index finger. He smiled at JoJo and gave a small finger wave as his mom introduced him.
"This wonderful hunk is-"
"Kira Yoshikage..."
His mom gave him a confused look, but the man, Kira, only smiled with a glint in his eye.
"What was that Josuke?"
"I-I said-"
"Bah! Whatever, we're off for our date, dinner's in the microwave!"
"WAIT MO-"
The door was shut in his face and by the time he had opened it, they were already out of the driveway. The man driving in his own car, glancing back at Josuke for a single moment. That was enough for JoJo to run after them, losing the car in a matter of moments, following the road and looking into the windows of restaurants all over town even around sundown. He asked around yet, no one had seen the two, making him panic only more and more. Soon it was midnight and now he was completely lost, wandering in a suburban area, still looking for his mother and her captor. Then, Kira's voice rang out softly from the dark.
"It seems someone has wandered a bit too far into business that is not theirs to worry about."
"... Get out here to where I can see you."
"Now why would I do that? Come on Josuke, if we meet like this..."
Josuke turned to see Kira walk under the light of a lamppost, holding a feminine severed hand, still dripping fresh blood as the color had yet to vanish from the skin. Whether that was his mom or not, he knew what that meant and began stomping over to him as strands flew up from his pompadour, his eyes alone lit the flame in his heart. It didn't help that a fly had been bugging him for the past hour non-stop.
"I wouldn't throw your life away like this. Your mother would be quite lonely without you. But you can hold onto this if you'd like."
Kira tossed the hand over to JoJo, who jumped to the side dodging the hand, but flying away from the explosive force of the hand blowing up. Right into the wall of a house, nearly going through the wall. Kira adjusted his tie as he strolled over to him grabbing a small pebble, tossing it up a few times to catch it before lobbing it over to JoJo . Josuke dived for the side but was blown away into the drive way. A bleeding mess, he still stood up as Kira chuckled.
"This looks familiar. In due time, I will make you suffer, but I should thank you for helping me... Grow."
He turned around and began to walk off into the dark of the night as the porch light came on. Sunset Shimmer ran out and almost screamed at what she saw. Josuke falling to a knee horribly wounded, worse than the fire at the school. She ran over to him hoping he was still alive.
"J-JoJo! What happened?!"
"..."
"JoJo? Oh man, I've got to get you to a hospital."
"W-Wait..."
He raised a hand to the damaged wall, just barely in reach, fixing it before being helped up by Sunset Shimmer. She helped him to a chair next to the phone and picked it up, swatting away at the fly that was bothering her suddenly. It was near instantaneous. The sudden vascularity, the surge of expanding, Sunset Shimmer exploded for a moment shrieking as she stepped back and found herself still whole. JoJo's hand out and blurred with a finger held over his mouth as he looked to the front door. She held a hand over her mouth and followed her gaze as someone opened it. She had been so worried about JoJo she forgot to lock the door, allowing Kira to enter. She snuck behind the counter and hid the best she could as Kira approached JoJo, leaning back and placing a gloved hand on the counter.
"Hm... My plan was to, take a knife and stab the bits and place it in your hands. Even you aren't able to move in your condition. But no bits, no mess, only you. Which could mean."
JoJo's eyes widened and surprised the blonde man, clocking him in the jaw hard enough to visibly snap it as he stumbled into the other room, but he had anticipated this. He knew JoJo could take much more than a few small explosions. Sunset Shimmer eyes widened at the blow before coming apart once more, yet she was whole and in JoJo's arms.
"W-What Is Happening!?"
"That guy, he's the one behind those weird events this past week. He can place charges on anything he touches into an explosion. They can explode what they're on or wait until someone touches the object, transferring the charge on them."
"You mean he's been blowing me up this entire time!? Th-That explains the loud noise early but-"
"I'll fix you each time, I wish I could promise that was the last time, but I'm not sure."
He gave her a thumbs up and smile before standing up, and getting shot in the shoulder. Kira held his jaw close enough to it's original placement as he could, aiming to Sunset Shimmer as she held her arms up in protection. Three shots. Three shots that never made it to her, instead, they had entered JoJo's back. Kira rolled his eyes but aimed for the head, missing his shot as JoJo stuck a foot out, breaking Kira's leg and kicking the gun out of his hand as he fell. Sunset Shimmer opened a nearby shelf, taking out the first thing and throwing it right at Kira as she backed away, turning to run. His eyes narrowed in on her as a knife found itself into his arm. He grabbed the knife and threw it back at her. Before making it to her body the knife exploded. Tearing her back apart and slamming her into a wall. Kira attempted to stand up but found JoJo's lifting him up nd throwing him into a wall and out the window. Soon everything began fix itself as Sunset Shimmer groaned and rubbed her head.
"Ooh... No wonder you're so scared of explosions."
"Stay inside, I-"
His eyes widen as his skin paled at the sound of a cat meowing. They looked outside to see a bored yet smiling pink cat come to Kira's side, purring as it pressed itself against him as he stroked it carefully. Then it looked at them. It could careless for Sunset Shimmer, but memories of a dumb haired punk came back from not too long ago, hissing at the sight of him. JoJo pulled her close and dropped down to the ground.
"Wha-What's with the cat?"
"That cat of his can send air bullets. He can still turn those into bombs and make portable explosions."
"What! JoJo that's incredibly-"
She looked up as a sudden explosion wrecked most of her kitchen.
"Holy! Okay, okay, you're right! How do we get out of this?!"
"He can't control it, only that cat can, and neither of them can see where it goes. We just have to stay out of sight and stay quiet."
The fly came back, surprisingly still alive and flew in front of JoJo's face. He swatted away at it as they ran out of the kitchen, looking back and noticed the next explosion was right where they had been. The fly followed them throughout the house as did the explosions. JoJo began to notice this and finally grabbed the fly.
"JoJo I get it, that thing is annoying but we're trying not to die here!"
"I know, and hopefully, I think I solved my problem."
The fly was much more durable than it should have been, seeing as it wasn't crushed within his grip, but JoJo wasn't trying to kill it. He applied enough pressure to break a leg with the sound of someone yelping outside.
"Of course he has help."
"What? A-Are you saying someone is spying on us with a fly? This can't be happening."
"Just a guess but, I think whoever's using this fly is telling Kira where to send the bombs!"
He dove with Sunset Shimmer to the floor on instinct, the same one that's been keeping him alive for this long, feeling a strange wind past them. The fly buzzed and buzzed before the strange wind came back. Yet nothing exploded. JoJo smirked and looked at the fly.
"And as long as he's this close, he won't risk himself being blown up with us. But I don't want to take that risk."
They got up and ran for the backdoor, narrowly escaping a few explosions, some misplaced due to the fly being too close. As they neared the door they began to hear a faint voice speaking frantically.
"They're coming after you and coming MY way! Hurry up and get over here, Kira now!"
It was too late. JoJo had kicked the door opened, and with it, pushed a man down onto the ground, holding his broken leg as he stared frightened with a phone in hand.
"They're right here! Just shoot a bomb at them now!"
"Wait you idiot, he'll kill you too-"
JoJo felt it, the strange wind pass by them and over to the man. He jumped back and used his body to shield Sunset Shimmer from the blast. She opened her eyes with a pained groan. Then she realized JoJo was still on top of her. She tapped his shoulder and tried to look around for the maniac attempting to kill them.
"JoJo, now's not the time for a nap! C'mon get up!"
She pushed him off of her as he rolled over limp. Eye open, faded, dead. She pulled away at him before noticing and shaking her head.
"O-Oh, no. No no no no! You can't do this to me. C'mon I don't have anyone else to help me out here!"
Nothing. She put her head to his chest, hearing not a single beat, nor was he breathing. She was terrified and looked around for anything or anyone, a bubble could come and finish her at any moment. She noticed the remains of the man and turned away feeling sick. What was left was burnt and smoldering, a hand and a eye ball. She pounded on JoJo's chest in some vain attempt, hoping to wake him up somehow until she heard a low chuckling.
"I can't believe my luck. He actually died saving someone he barely knew, of course."
She looked up to see Kira standing over here and getting closer.
"No one will stop me from having my peaceful, quiet, life. And I'll make sure of it."
As he stared down at her she began to hear sirens. It was a ditch effort, she turned and ran to the front of the house were a lone officer was staring oddly at her.
"Miss, I've been getting a few complain-"
"YOU'VE GOT TO HELP ME! THERE'S A KILLER! T-TWO BODIES IN MY BACYARD I JUST ESCAPED HIM!"
She grabbed him and pulled at him, looking around frantically, despite knowing the bubbles were invisible, she couldn't help herself. The officer scratched his head but took out his weapon regardless.
"Show me where the bodies are Miss, keep close and tell me everything that happened."
"Okay.. Oka-"
She noticed something odd as the officer stumbled back, wounds suddenly opening underneath his suit, as if a bomb went off inside. He stood there swaying and confused before a glint in his eye shined, then exploded. Sunset Shimmer woke up in her bed screaming. Sweating, teary eyed, and feeling sick. She looked down at her hands then around. She was back in her room. She checked her calendar, the date hadn't changed. It was a horrible case of déjà vu. In fact it was if the whole day restarted itself. As she got ready for the day, hoping all that she remembered was a dream, she left for the bus stop and saw him. Kira, right at her stop. She never noticed him before, she didn't pay him any mind, and likewise he still didn't seem to care for her. She kept an eye on him and to her disdain he noticed. Frowning as he glanced back with a raised brow before looking away. She approached him and folded her arms.
"Excuse me, sir?"
"... What do you want?"
"Do you know someone named Josuke? Goes by JoJo?"
His eyes widened before looking around, then smiling, the small crowd of people glancing over.
"So it seems my plan has finally began. You've come back from killing someone."
"You were the one who killed people!"
"What did I do again? Say it a bit louder."
"I Said You Killed Them!"
She turned and pointed at him angrily.
"Someone call the police, this man's a murderer-"
While everyone had a skeptical faces, she saw several glints in their eyes before they exploded, as did she. Waking back up in her bedroom. It wasn't a dream, she came to that horrifying conclusion when he smiled, but this was something else. Was he sending her back through time? She was utterly lost and simply wanted to stay in, but decided against it. She could use this to her advantage, she just needed to figure out what was happening. She started her day over, and met Kira again at the stop. She sat next to him staring ahead, barely speaking above a whisper.
"What did you do to me."
Kira glanced at her and scoffed, then he sneered.
"Wait, what did you say, girl?"
"What did you do to me?!"
"Hmph. You can scream all you like, shouldn't you be going to the police if you know who I really am?"
"You did, something, so that I can't tell people."
"Hehehe, how many people have you killed to realize that?"
She wanted to hit him right there. This man killed her friend and now trapped her in a possible time loop, she needed to stay cool headed, for now.
"Why are you doing this?"
"I just want a simple, quiet, life. Is that so hard to ask for? Our bus has arrived, and as you can imagine, I am a busy man. Do whatever stupid schoogirl stuff you do. And don't interfere."
He stood up as she slapped him hard as she could across the face. She came to realize how much of a bad idea that was as his own hand came down on her, only to stop at her raised arms. She looked up and saw he was struggling, as if something was holding him until he retracted his hand and adjusted his hand.
"Hmph! I'll let you go this time, but do that again, I'll be sure to teach you a proper lesson."
He bumped into her with his shoulder before getting on the bus. As the door closed she realized the bus left her behind and began running after it. Today was an awful day for Sunset Shimmer.
