Wisdom Is Magic: Season 1by ZeldatheWarriorPrincess
Chapters
1. In Another World, Part 1
Author's note: If you're ever wondering why Zelda was acting assertive, you must know that I was intending to make her more of a warrior princess. Although, she won't be too violent, as warriors aren't always violent. There will be some OCs in this story, and my OC, Midnight Glitter, isn't intended to replace Twilight. Midnight is just going to be a student and apprentice learning from Princess Luna. Midnight is like a preteen, so that could explain why she didn't act so young. Now, for the extended summary before the story starts... Hope you enjoy the story.
Zelda is just adjusting to the newfound peace of Hyrule, when suddenly, she encounters a mysterious kind of rainbow, and decides to investigate the source of the strange light. Upon going through the door that isn't there before, she enters a colorful land with multiple ponies in place of humans! And Link seldom follows her through the portal, only to end up in a different area somewhere in Equestria.
Zelda's search for her friend turns into an adventure about friendship, and multiple journeys to save Equestria from evil, with the help of Twilight and her friends! However, for Luna and Celestia, things are changing differently for the fate of Equestria's royalty as the first season progresses. Luna does not expect to get a student a few years back, and now that Midnight Glitter is learning from the Night Princess, Midnight gets adventures of her own! Even though the Forces of Darkness is thought to be long gone, something dark is slowly getting to Celestia's mind and soul. Follow our heroes as they go on adventures, deal with everyday drama, and even learn a few lessons in life!
One afternoon, Zelda was doing some paperwork in her office. Being a royal meant a busy life, right? Sometimes, she dreamed of a carefree life of where she didn't often have to make laws and make constant appearances. There was a downside to being royal, where she wouldn't be allowed to involve herself in battle using a weapon. She would often be instructed to stay out of it. It had been days since all the villains were defeated during a war. She hadn't gotten any excitement, which added to her regal boredom.
Zelda wanted to do something exciting, thrilling, and adventurous. She wondered how Link got all of that, while she didn't get any thrill. Although she used to dress up as either Sheik or Tetra, she didn't get to battle as much. Maybe going to another world would ease her boredom. She hoped for a time in where she wouldn't be in the millenium-old damsel in distress position, so that she would be able to save somebody that she cared about.
The castle was silent as usual, which added to the mysteriousness of the place. Although Zelda didn't seem like it, she could be mysterious sometimes. Although she liked the daytime, she would love for a night in where there was no danger so that she could take a stroll under the glittering stars. She also enjoyed reading at night, where her duties weren't the main focus of her life.
Just as Zelda wrote on the hundredth paper, she heard a loud "clang" somewhere in the hallway. She thought that there might be an intruder, so she went into the hallway to investigate. She saw a rainbow-colored light coming from the end of the hallway. Feeling curious, she decided to follow the strange light. She thought that she saw a silhouette as she approached the end of the hallway. "Who goes there?" Zelda asked.
There was no response, and Zelda decided to just go ahead and follow the mysterious light. She soon found herself in a room that she never saw before... a room with many doors. There was a door with a pair of winged unicorns. Something about the door increased her curiousity, though she didn't have a thing for unicorns. She thought that maybe unicorns only existed in mythology. The pegasus could have also belonged in mythology, not real life.
She carefully placed her hand onto the elegant doorknob, and the door opened, revealing a bright rainbow portal. "Okay, am I going to an overly colorful world?" Zelda asked herself.
"Hey, I thought you went missing. I came to visit, and-" A male voice started.
Zelda turned around and saw the clueless green-clad hero standing by the door. "What are you doing here? I don't need protection, you know," She started.
"Well, excuse me, princess!" Link replied.
"Whatever!"
Zelda felt frustrated, and her anger was basically boiling inside her heart. She felt like doing cruel things to Link. "You can't be that serious, okay? Just go home and do your own business! There's no heroism for you to do now, Link. This quest will be my quest," Zelda stated harshly.
"Whoa, there... I never expected you to be like this-" Link placed his hands into the air, and chuckled nervously.
Zelda grunted with anger, whirled around, and rushed through the portal. Link simply followed the princess without letting her know. The two heroes became unconscious as the door slammed shut behind them. Everything went black for a moment...
Luna was simply waking up from her dream when she heard a noise in the castle. She climbed out of bed, and decided to investigate the source of the noise, since it's almost evening, and it's likely that there would be intruders. She walked out into the hallway, and saw her sister searching for something. "Did you hear something, Tia?" Luna asked.
"Yes, Luna. I sent the guards to check the place for intruders," Celestia replied.
"And why are you looking around? Weren't you gonna leave that to the guards?" Luna seemed puzzled as she lifted her brow.
"It could have been the Forces of Darkness that once corrupted you. I want to make sure that it doesn't touch you again."
"Seriously, stop being so worried about me. I'm not getting hurt again, and I would never ever turn my back on the kingdom ever again."
"I know, I know."
"Then why are you still looking around? Aren't we done with the Nightmare Moon stuff?"
"Yes."
"I'll start my duties. There's no need for you to exhaust yourself while looking around all night. I'll watch the kingdom, dear sister."
"Alright, then." Celestia hugged Luna and walked off into the room with the sun symbol.
Luna proceeded to walk into the throne room, and sat upon the throne. Suddenly, one of the maids ran towards the princess of the night. "Luna! There was an extra alicorn strolling around the castle! She could be a threat to Equestria," The maid shouted.
"Extra alicorn?" Luna pondered. She placed her hoof onto her chin, and thought about the noise from earlier. The maid couldn't have referred to Twilight Sparkle or Cadence, for sure.
"I'm going to see what this is all about," Luna concluded. "You must relax, okay? I know you get frightened easily, but if this alicorn has good intentions, then you would have no reason to be afraid."
"I'll try to calm down," The maid replied.
Luna wondered if the alicorn could be Nightmare Moon. She cautiously walked into the hallway, and noticed a mysterious figure standing behind a door. She could only see the head, which almost scared her a bit. "Who are you?" Luna asked as she approached the door.
The alicorn simply closed the door as she stared into Luna's eyes, not breaking eye contact. "Did you know where I might be?" The alicorn asked.
"You're in Equestria. Are you from an alternate universe?"
"No. I'm from Hyrule. I was sure that Link was somewhere in this place. Call me Zelda, by the way."
"Hyrule?" Luna seemed curious. She had never heard of a kingdom with a strange name, or a kind of name that didn't sound Equestrian.
Zelda looked similar to her human form, as she still kept the golden brown hair, the blue-green eyes, and the pure white coat. Her mane wasn't moving, though. Her cutie mark was a light blue Triforce that symbolized Wisdom. "Are you the ruler of this land?" She asked.
"Yes, but I rule with my sister, so most of the time, I seemed less important because I only come out during the afternoon and during the night. I don't want to talk about my dark past, though. You'd probably leave me like any other pony," Luna replied.
"No. I won't leave you if you just tell me." Zelda smiled slightly, though she felt a bit awkward about being a pony instead of a human.
"I'm not sure if I can trust you."
"I'm not the type to shun others just because of a dark past! Honest..."
"Okay..." Luna paused for a moment. Her eyes saddened as she frowned, thinking about what she did as Nightmare Moon. She decided to keep it brief.
"There were a few princesses who did bad things in the past. Take Hilda for example, okay? She used Yuga to steal the Triforce, and she thought she was doing the right thing, but it's going very wrong. Hilda didn't know, as she was being foolish. Many times, she would speak about how lucky I am to have a 'perfect' kingdom. When she commanded Link to give the Triforce to her, things took a rough turn, as Yuga betrayed her for the destruction of Lorule. It wasn't that long after the battle, that a cowardly boy named Ravio reminded her about her mistakes. Hilda apologized, and after that, I decided to do something nice for her-" Zelda started.
"Wait. I hope you're not going to do a monologue, since I have to finish my duties in Night Court and in the dreamscape. I can't keep the ponies waiting," Luna reminded her.
"Maybe they won't blame you for being late. Anyways, I made a wish on the Triforce to restore the Lorulean Triforce. I bet Hilda was happy about that. Did you do something wrong that you regretted?"
"Yes, but I don't want to tell you. You'd become afraid of me."
"No, I won't. You seem like a kind woman - I mean, mare."
"Are you sure?" Luna lifted her brow. She suddenly gasped for a moment. "Oh, wait! I forgot to say my name. I got carried away with the conversation, and... My name is Luna, the Princess of Equestria. My sister is Princess Celestia. We once wielded the Elements of Harmony until the Forces of Darkness magnified my jealousy towards her day, and I became the very thing I feared that I would become... A villain. I became Nightmare Moon, and Celestia locked me onto the moon for a thousand years. Then, Twilight and her friends released me from the clutches of evil using the Elements. I was remorseful upon seeing my sister once again, and promised her that I would never... I would never betray her or the kingdom. More ponies liked the night right now, especially Twilight."
Zelda was silent for a moment. "Hmm... The Forces of Darkness sounded familiar. It is what corrupted a few people, and it kept a few others evil forever. However, the 'Elements' released you from Nightmare Moon. I'm not afraid of that, you know. I'm more brave than I seem, Luna," She said.
Luna felt the tension melt away from her heart, and she looked up at a clock. "I must attend to my duties quickly. You must go, before the guards find you. I'm sure a few ponies saw you as a threat, but you didn't seem like a threat," She said.
Luna walked into the throne room, and Zelda looked around for a way out. Zelda wondered if being an alicorn was to blame for a mare running away from her earlier. She decided to just take the shortcut, and found her way out of the castle. Zelda slowly opened her wings, and tested them for a second. "Maybe I could fly," Zelda said.
She took her legs off the ground, and flew higher into the air. However, her wings froze as she crashed into the ground. She groaned with pain as she decided to just walk around.
2. In Another World, Part 2
Link woke up in the middle of the darkness, with the trees surrounding him, and doom seeming to lurk from every corner of the forest. The only light he could see was the moonlight, which lighted up the forest ground. The growling echoed throughout the forest, making him feel as if he was being watched and hunted by a monster or two. He stood up, and noticed that he was now a pegasus, not a human.
Link's coat was a light grey, and his mane was dirty blond with brown streaks. His eyes were deep blue, and his cutie mark was the Triforce of Courage.
He felt fearful for a moment. He never felt fear, but now, he wondered how to defend himself if he couldn't draw his sword using a hoof. He found a path that seemed clear and safe, and proceeded onto the safe path. He ran out of the forest, and glanced at the castle in the distance. Perhaps there's another dark princess... Who knows?
Maybe this time, this dark princess probably just didn't know that Link and Zelda ended up in this land. She would probably require a full explanation. Link ran towards a nearby village as a silhouette came into view. "Do you know where Zelda is?" Link asked loudly.
"What are you talking about? I'm only going home. What are you doing at this hour? Besides, it's almost one in the morning," The alicorn replied.
"I'm referring to someone I know. Okay?"
"I'm sorry, but I can't give an exact answer because I don't know who this 'Zelda' is. By the way, call me Twilight Sparkle."
"Okay, Twilight. Who resides in the castle?"
"Celestia and Luna lived there. Are you from another country or another time period?"
"I'm from another world which has Hyrule in it, and so is Zelda."
"Oh."
The lavender alicorn walked past Link without saying anything else. Link continued running towards the castle, and soon, he became exhausted as an alicorn flew close to him. "Is that you, Link?" The alicorn asked.
"Yes. You remind me of-" Link started.
"I'm Zelda. It's me, Zelda! Okay? You're so clueless, you know... Wait. How did you get here?" Zelda sounded demanding, as she was impatient for an answer.
"I didn't remember. I guess I followed after you, and-"
"Whatever. Just ignore what I said. I'll go find a place to sleep. Just find your own place, okay? I'll be somewhere in Canterlot if you need me. You can reside in the village over there. I heard that there was a small inn that you could sleep at for free," Zelda interrupted abruptly as she flew off.
Luna was finishing her dream duties as she met with her student, Midnight Glitter, in the throne room. "Hello. How is your night going?" Luna asked.
"I've been studying all evening. I've even learned a bit of black magic," Midnight replied.
Midnight's name fitted her well, as she was more of a night owl than an early bird. She usually slept past the sunrise and most of the afternoon. She would wake up at six in the evening, and go to bed by sunrise. She was adventurous and always willing to do a dangerous task. She could get bored easily if she didn't do anything dangerous, or even go someplace where there would be danger. She doesn't usually see her family members very much because she couldn't get along with a few relatives very well. Most of her relatives were indifferent about her, so sometimes they didn't speak with her as much. Her older sister, Radiant Dawn, moved far away, and never spoke with her since then.
Midnight tended to get quite dramatic from time to time, but blamed that characteristic on her mother, who would act like a complete drama queen from time to time. She sometimes wished to be in complete control of her strong emotions.
Midnight had a teal coat, with a slightly wavy purple mane and a lilac streak in her mane. Her eyes were the color of brilliant blue sapphires, and her cutie mark was a crescent moon with the dark grey clouds. The clouds on her cutie mark had a light grey outline, unlike the crescent. She wore a black ribbon in her mane most of the time, and to the observer, the ribbon seemed useless. The ribbon was actually magical, so it could do anything, such as transforming into a rope.
Luna heard about black magic before. Black magic wasn't always beneficial, as it could sometimes corrupt the user and turn him or her evil. That kind of magic possibly combined with the Forces of Darkness and created Nightmare Moon as a result. So, if her student was going to use that kind of magic, then she had better proceed to learn black magic with caution, as it could be quite dangerous once that kind of magic mingled with negative emotions and outside forces associated with evil.
"Oh, so you're going to learn black magic? Just be cautious when learning black magic," Luna warned.
"Why are you warning me?" Midnight asked. "I'm not seven."
"I know, Midnight. But, no matter how old or experienced you are, you have to be quite careful with black magic."
"I have a question, Luna. What's with the rumors about the 'strange alicorn?' There's only four alicorns in Equestria, right?"
"No. She came here a bit ago to search for a friend. She calls herself Zelda, to be exact. She doesn't have evil intentions, but several ponies were extra cautious around her, as they were afraid that she could be a threat. She isn't a threat, but I sense that she has very strong magic and might have the soul of a goddess in her."
"Are alicorns actually goddesses, or is she the only one that could be a goddess?"
"Most ponies saw alicorns as goddesses, but we don't live forever. We just age slower, and in Zelda's case, she could be a goddess and alicorn at the same time."
"Where is she from?"
"She told me that she's from Hyrule."
They paused for a moment as a pegasus walked into the throne room. "What brings you here?" Luna asked.
"I decided to come here," The stallion replied. "My name's Link."
"Oh. Zelda told me that you're her friend, right?"
"Yeah, but she isn't interested in me in a romantic way. She sees me as just a friend, so..."
"That's okay. Call me Princess Luna. I'm the Princess of the Night. I was a bit misunderstood upon my return from the moon, because of the Nightmare Moon incident. I used to be so jealous of my sister, and became Nightmare Moon. I had to be banished for a thousand years, and I got released by the Elements of Harmony. I'm not evil anymore, but I'm sure that it was the Forces of Darkness and the black magic that combined and fed on my negative emotions."
"Did you get accepted or what?"
"I did get accepted on that night, during Nightmare Night. I learned that the ponies were pretending to be scared, and a kind little colt told me that I'm his favorite princess, and then he asked me to come around on the next Nightmare Night."
"I'm curious, what are the 'Elements of Harmony?' And who controls them?"
"They're the legendary artifacts that defeat evil using the Magic of Friendship. Twilight Sparkle and her friends use the Elements."
"Oh, I see. And I've heard of the Forces of Darkness. It's been in every universe for many years."
Luna nodded in response as Midnight came up with a sarcastic comment. "Are you going to start a war against the villains, because you'll have to go to every single world," She remarked.
"Violence isn't usually Equestria's doing, unless there was a war and we'll have to use that as a last resort," Luna reminded her.
"I get it, Princess Luna. It would be cool to win a war against evil, though."
Luna turned her attention to Link, and smiled for a moment. "It's possibly past two right now. Do you want to spend the night here?" She asked.
"Of course," Link replied. "You're so kind."
Link walked out of the throne room, and Midnight gave Luna a surprised stare. "You're allowing him to stay for a while?" Midnight asked.
"Yes," Luna replied. "It would be exhausting for him to journey back to Ponyville to get some rest."
"Oh, but what if Prince Blueblood bullies him?"
"Blueblood? Oh, I'm sure Link can handle that jerk of a prince."
The two giggled for a moment because Luna said that Prince Blueblood wasn't very nice at all. Luna thought about Link for a few seconds. She thought that Link was a bit adorable, and somewhat charming. Luna realized that she was thinking about the pegasus in a rather affectionate way, and blushed profusely. She used her left wing to cover her blush, and Midnight thought it was adorable.
"What's on your mind?" Midnight asked.
"Link was on my mind," Luna replied briefly.
"Oh. I can see that, but I'm not sure if you can date somepony that doesn't live as long..."
"I can try."
Luna and Midnight walked into the castle library, and Luna paused for a moment. "Are you alright?" Midnight asked. "You seem bothered."
"I have a feeling that something dark is haunting Celestia," Luna replied.
What do you think of the chapter? The new one may come up this Saturday or so. I'm not sure when, but any comments and reviews are appreciated.
3. Wanting to Know
Luna lowered the moon to make way for her sister's sun. However, the sun was shining a bit too bright. She blinked a few times, because she wasn't used to this amount of light. Well, she didn't usually stay up during the day unless there was an important emergency or meeting. She was thinking about Celestia's recent behavior. Celestia would stare at the sun from time to time, and however, it didn't bother her at all.
Whenever Celestia had to make the sun set, she would take up to three hours to make the sun disappear into the horizon. Luna wondered why Celestia was like that. It wasn't normal for Celestia to make the day last a bit longer than usual. The air was unusually warm this morning, causing Luna to sweat a bit. Midnight walked onto the balcony, and Luna glanced at her for a moment. "It's so hot and I can't sleep," Midnight complained.
"Have you tried using the black-out curtains? Also, I will get the servants to make sure that the air conditioning system is working right. Maybe that'll help," Luna said with concern. "Celestia never made the world this warm before. It couldn't have been the warnings about the Earth suffering from global heating."
"It's bothering the world. Doesn't the heat bother you?"
"It's not that bad, but I'm sure it's getting worse."
An alabaster alicorn appeared in front of the two, and started speaking. "How's your night, Luna? Also, I think the ponies are now in love with your night. Am I so wrong to think that the ponies will always find love in my sunlight?" Celestia started.
"I'm fine, but I'm concerned about your recent behavior. It's not really from within, and some ponies are beginning to notice. The day doesn't usually last for up to twenty hours in the summer. Do you know what's going to happen if the day lasts this long even during the winter?" Luna replied.
"Of course I know. There's no need to be concerned about the sunlight. Your night's useless anyways."
"But, the night is very important! It's calm and peaceful enough for some ponies to sleep, and dark enough for the nocturnal ponies to stargaze. Without the night, then there would be an eternal summer... Everywhere. And without it-"
The sun became brighter as the flames started appearing between the two alicorns. Celestia flashed her wings, and the flames lit up her face, making her seem intimidating. "They'll always like my sun! And how did you even get a student?" She interrupted. "She seems to worship your night!"
"It's not a part of night worship!" Luna objected. "And calm down. You're scaring her."
"I'm not scary like you are!"
"I'm not Nightmare Moon! Twilight and her friends released me with the Elements!"
"SILENCE!" Celestia's voice echoed throughout the castle as the flames disappeared. She sat upon the throne, and glared at the ponies before her.
Luna and Midnight walked into the hallway, and bumped into a familiar unicorn. "Why is this peasant sleeping in the castle?" Blueblood asked.
"Because I allowed him to do so. Leave us alone," Luna replied.
"It's not like you have a thing for him, Nightmare Moon. If I can, I will execute you."
"Wait, what did you just say? And, I'm not evil! You're just an arrogant bully. Try to be more respectful to others, and never bring up this threat again. If you do that one more time, then I'm telling Celestia. She won't be happy about that."
"She won't listen to a nocturnal trash like you."
"I told you to leave us alone! I'm getting tired of how you treat me and the others! Besides, a royal is meant to serve, not to be served. You don't even know that."
"You're just like that annoying unicorn that exploded at me. Rarity is not my type, but I would like if you would just stay on the moon!" Blueblood's last sentence was harsh and loud. He stomped out of the hallway.
"I'm sure he's just jealous of you and your sister because you two get to rule the kingdom," Midnight said.
"Maybe, but we shouldn't worry about him. He's like that lying royal from a play about the snow queen," Luna replied.
"You mean, that stallion called Regal Fraud?"
"Yes. You saw the play, right?"
"Of course. I'm going back to bed."
"I know. I'll be awake for a while to speak with the servants about the air conditioning system."
Luna hugged Midnight as Midnight ran off towards the door on the left. Midnight entered the door, and Luna decided to check on Link. Link was still sleeping, and Luna smiled for a moment. "Do you want to wake up now?" Luna asked.
Link slowly opened his eyes as the sun's rays illuminated his face. "Just a few more minutes..." He said.
"That's fine. I'll speak with the servants if you need me."
Luna trotted into the hallway, and searched for a few servants. A stallion was trying to upgrade an air vent in the wall. "Hello," Luna greeted. "Did you notice how hot it was outside?"
"Yes. That's why I'm doing my business. However, it's not improving," The stallion replied.
"Oh. That's not good. Are you going to get somepony, perhaps a maintenance technician, to help you?"
"No. I'm fine by myself."
"Alright, then."
Luna trotted off to Midnight's room to tell her of the news. "A stallion was trying to upgrade the air conditioning system, and doesn't need assistance. I think he's going to take a long time," Luna confided.
"I still can't sleep. Celestia's sun is going to cause a genocide," Midnight complained.
"I hope not, Midnight. Just stay patient and calm, and you'll be deeply sleeping in no time. Do you want to hear a story or a lullaby?"
"I want to hear you sing!"
"Okay, here I go..."
Luna started singing as Midnight smiled with content. "Hush now, quiet now, let the sleep take hold... The sun has said good day to you... Sleep the day away, and dream of adventures and the thrill of the journeys... For now, you must journey through the dreamscape, and dance to this lullaby," Luna sang as Midnight fell asleep. "Let the coolness consume your body, and fight away the cruel heat... Sleep now, rest now, dream the arrival of the cool eve... Sleep..."
Luna smiled at the sleeping unicorn, and closed the black-out curtains with her magic.
Zelda woke up, and attempted to use her magic to levitate a hairbrush that was on the nightstand. She trotted out of the fancy hotel room, and walked down the steps. A few ponies noticed her, and backed away from her. Zelda looked at them with a puzzled stare. "You have no reason to be so afraid of me," She started.
"She's a strange alicorn! She could be a threat to royalty," A stallion said.
"Stop it, now. I'm from Hyrule, and I'm also royalty. I'm not evil, and I'm actually trying to-"
"Here comes the lies," A neurotic mare exaggerated.
"I'm not lying!" Zelda's voice echoed throughout the building, waking up the other ponies that were unamused about the ruckus. "Besides, calm down. I'm not going to hurt you in any way, and..."
Suddenly, Zelda's magic backfired against her, and caused the brush to be flinged toward a young filly's face. The brush poked the filly's eye, and the filly started crying and hollering. Zelda looked from left to right as she saw the negative facial responses from the fearful ponies. "You just made Tootsie cry," A mare shouted. "How dare you do this to my daughter?"
"I didn't mean to... I just... No!" Zelda blurted and ran out of the building.
"This is Online Journal speaking on the Canterlot News. Today, we saw even more of this alicorn. She caused chaos at the Canterlot Hotel, and even left without apologizing. She's very rude," A mare announced.
"That's a lie! You just won't believe me, so... Well, then! Be that way," Zelda finished as she trotted towards the castle.
"Hey! Wait. So, will you tell us the truth? Don't forget to introduce yourself," Online Journal said as she levitated a microphone near Zelda's mouth.
"What is this all about?" Zelda seemed puzzled.
"Tell us your name and explain how you got here."
"Okay. My name's Zelda, and I came here from Hyrule. Hyrule is in a mirror universe. That's where the humans live."
"Humans?"
"Oh, wait. Never mind, okay? Leave me alone."
Zelda walked into the castle, and took a deep breath as she entered a throne room. This time, it was a white alicorn in place of the midnight blue alicorn. "What brings you here?" The white alicorn asked.
"I just want to see someone," Zelda replied.
"You're not trying to see Luna, are you?"
"Maybe. Have you seen a certain pegasus, perhaps Link, walking through this castle?"
"No. I don't know who he is, either."
"Fine. I'll look around myself."
Zelda sighed with frustration as she trotted into a hallway. A certain pegasus approached her, and Zelda seemed puzzled. "What is it now?" Zelda asked.
"This place has a library. We could find answers there," Link replied.
"Honestly, I'm not sure if we would be snooping around in the castle's library."
"Aw, come on. You know how to be sneaky."
"Yes, but we haven't known how to fly around... Yet." Zelda was wondering if their ability to fly was already there, or maybe they couldn't fly. Nobody - wait, nopony in the land would be willing to teach them flying lessons.
Celestia was hearing a familiar voice speak to her once again in her head. "I'm not going to become evil," Celestia said.
"Oh, but you do want to betray your sister for the good of Equestria, right?" The malicious voice crooned.
"Stop this right now. I would never hurt my sister."
"But, you almost attacked her today. How can that make sense if you have a hidden desire to kick Luna off the throne and have full power over Equestria, making the daylight last forever? Your sun shall never set... The day will last forever."
"The day will not last forever!"
"You claim to be benevolent and wise. The foolish ponies of Equestria, and your prissy little sister doesn't know about the true strength of the sun! You are not meant to be benevolent or wise... You are meant to be malevolent and manipulative! I have something even better to do while in your too-pure body, Celestia... Together, we will be one with the full power! With me, you'll be a powerfully sole dictator! Would you not enjoy that kind of rule? You're going to be the only princess in Equestria..."
"No! I'll never betray my subjects! I would never strip Luna of her title! That'll be cruel and demoralizing to her. I'll never become manipulative or malevolent."
"Stop denying the fact that you're not innocent or pure. I'm the only one that understands you. The others will never understand your desire to be the sole ruler of Equestria!"
"Fine, but I'm not giving in so easily." Celestia shook her head as a concerned mare walked up to her.
"Who was talking to you?" The mare asked.
"No one," Celestia lied.
"Okay. I hope you weren't lying, though..."
Celestia sighed in exasperation as the mare left the throne room. The day court was becoming smaller, because the ponies either had to work or sleep during the day. Other ponies were just planning for tonight, meaning that there were barely any ponies who would dare look directly at Celestia's sun. "Am I so wrong to think that the ponies would forever shun my sister's night? My sun's not that bright or cruel," Celestia muttered.
"You are so wrong to think so. More ponies love the night, and they hate your day because of sunburns and some cases of blindness. Your sun is meant to shine bright with cruelty, not gleam softly with kindness," The malicious voice started.
"I'm wrong? That's it! The kingdom will be fully mine..." Celestia scowled furiously as she glared at the sun.
"Oh, yes! That's what I want! You're supposed to give in to my words. You are not meant to serve, but to be served! Everypony shall bow down to you in fear, and they shall worship the glorious sun!"
"They will. Soon..."
Celestia shook her head once again, and looked around the throne room for a hint of somepony visiting the court. Still, nopony was there. Celestia decided that sitting back was not the answer to taking all of the spotlight from her little sister...
4. Flying Lessons and Heat Waves
Zelda and Link entered the Friendship Castle, and they were greeted by a lavender alicorn and the other ponies."Come on in," The alicorn said.
"Who is this alicorn? I'm very sure it's not Celestia," The tan Earth pony said.
"I'm Zelda," Zelda said. "Tell us your names."
"I'm Twilight Sparkle," The lavender alicorn said. "Haven't I said my name earlier?"
"I'm Apple Jack," The tan Earth pony said.
"I'm Rainbow Dash, the coolest Wonderbolt in all of Equestria," The cyan pegasus boasted.
"I'm Fluttershy," The shy pegasus whispered.
"I'm Pinkie Pie!" The pink Earth pony exclaimed. "It's nice to meet you!"
"I'm Rarity," The white unicorn said.
"Okay, okay. All of you have said your names. By the way, this is Link," Zelda said.
"Nice to meet you," Twilight and her friends spoke in unison.
Zelda took a deep breath as she started to speak. She inhaled once again, and exhaled loudly as she came up with the first few words of her explanation. "Link and I were from another world called Hyrule. There were humans over there, and there were also the elven that were slightly taller than the humans. Link and I had pointy ears because we were of the elven. When we got here, Link was possibly somewhere else, and I was in the castle, not knowing which way to go. Then, I met with Luna, and she told me a bit about herself. She also told me to leave the castle, and I left the castle. After that, I searched for Link, and found him somewhere in between the city around the castle and this small town," She explained.
"I've heard rumors about you possibly being a threat to Equestria. I hope you aren't a threat," Twilight replied.
Zelda scowled for a few minutes, causing Fluttershy to back up a bit. "I'm not a threat," Zelda said. "I'm tired of hearing that. It's getting old."
"Whoops. Sorry about that..." Twilight smiled nervously as she chuckled. This was the second time in her life when an alicorn's angry expression intimidated her a bit. She was almost reminded of Luna, because Luna was in a similar situation one time, except that Luna wasn't from another world.
"That's fine. There's no reason to be so afraid of me." Zelda lifted her brow for a moment as she tried to stop scowling. Her leftover anger was still there, and she felt as if she was going to explode any second.
"Have you ever tried to fly around?" Rainbow Dash asked. "I think your flying's as awkward as Twilight's."
"Rainbow Dash, stop," Zelda replied. "Of course I tried to fly, but it was unsuccessful because I don't know how."
"Here, I'll teach you how. We must be outside though, you can't be crashing around the castle," Twilight offered.
"You can't fly fast because you used to be-" Rainbow Dash started.
"Bite your tongue for once, Rainbow," Rarity interrupted. "It's been two years since she became an alicorn. I'm sure she already knew how to fly."
"Okay, then."
They all walked out of the castle, and Rainbow Dash flew high into the air. "See if you can catch me," She remarked.
"Rarity told you not to say bad things," Apple Jack reminded her.
"No comment about this alicorn..." Fluttershy said. "I'm still not sure about her."
"She's not another Nightmare Moon," Pinkie Pie said.
Zelda and Link attempted to fly into the air, and they were flapping their wings very hard because they didn't want to fall down. "Take it easy, okay? Falling to the ground wasn't that bad," Rainbow Dash commented.
"Didn't you get injured from crashing into the ground one time?" Twilight asked Rainbow.
"Oh, I almost forgot about that. It wasn't bad, actually. The Daring Do book that I read in the hospital was so cool."
"Don't forget the time when the cops chased you around because you took the book from the hospital."
Link flew higher into the air, and smiled broadly. He suddenly felt his confidence soar as he started flying to the right. His speed increased to the point of where he couldn't slow down. "If he's not gonna slow down, something's gonna happen," Apple Jack commented.
"Right," Twilight agreed.
"Link is being Link. That's why he's testing his skills with a bit of overconfidence," Zelda said.
"So, he can be arrogant like Rainbow sometimes? I'm not surprised," Rarity said. "There's always gonna be an arrogant pony, no matter where you go."
"Only sometimes, I guess," Pinkie said.
Link suddenly crashed into a tall and thick tree, and fell to the ground. His head felt so much pain because of that. Zelda approached him, and tried her best to seem concerned, even though she found his clumsiness to be a bit funny. The laughter bubbled up inside her throat, causing her to smirk. Link sighed as he struggled to get up. "Are you always going to tease me?" Link asked.
"Possibly," Zelda replied.
"Oh..."
Zelda started chortling as she landed onto the ground. "Try again," Zelda said.
"I don't think I will fly very high," Link expressed.
"Maybe you will... Or, maybe you won't."
"That's enough for today," Twilight said.
"We didn't learn anything," Link confided.
"At least you two flew a bit," Rainbow Dash remarked.
"Rainbow Dash..." Fluttershy started.
"Don't you have anything else to do, other than tease the newcomers about their flying ability?" Apple Jack asked Rainbow.
"Aren't you going to compete against other teams as a Wonderbolt?" Rarity asked.
"Okay, who's coming to the slumber party tonight?" Pinkie Pie asked.
"I'm coming," Rarity said.
"I don't have time," Twilight lied.
"I have things to do at home," Apple Jack admitted.
"Slumber parties are girly. I'd rather be hanging out with the Wonderbolts," Rainbow Dash said.
"I have to tend to the animals," Fluttershy admitted.
"Okay. You can make time for the party if you want," Pinkie said. "And Rainbow, it doesn't have to always be so girly. There's some horror films to watch, like Silent Ville. I've even invited Princess Luna!"
"You're going to invite the princess? I'm not sure if she would come. She might have to attend to her duties as a royal," Twilight said.
"Who says that the royal sisters are too busy for us? They'd be glad to hang out with us," Pinkie replied.
"They can't always hang out with us," Rarity reminded her.
"Anyways, Pinkie, you have just mentioned a horror film. I'm coming tonight, if I have time," Rainbow said.
"I don't like gore anyways," Apple Jack said.
"I don't think the royal sisters would enjoy the film," Twilight assumed.
"Aw, come on-" Pinkie started.
"Horror films are only for villains," Fluttershy said.
"They're not. Heroes watch them, too."
"Pinkie, are you also inviting Princess Celestia?" Rainbow asked Pinkie.
"Yes, but she hasn't wrote back," Pinkie admitted sadly.
"I hope she does."
"There's many things to do at the party tonight, anyways. There would be games, and we would even play with the Ouija board. We can have treats and watch a horror film of our choice."
"Pinkie..." Fluttershy started.
Zelda and Link were listening to the conversation the whole time. "Is this party only for females?" Zelda asked.
"Yep. Other mares are coming. I'm sure it would be fun," Pinkie replied.
"It's not going to be too crowded for the Royal Sisters, right?"
"It may be crowded, for sure. I'm sure they can handle it. Are you coming?"
"Of course. We're not inviting Link anyways." Zelda turned her attention to Link. "And you're not always going to follow me around. You can't just depend on me, you know. You can do something else, like explore-"
"I want to see Luna tonight," Link interrupted.
"But, Pinkie said that this party is reserved for females."
"I can't dress up as a female, though."
"I hope you're changing your mind already."
"Okay, I will."
Pinkie gasped as a scroll appeared in front of her. "It's from Princess Celestia. Let's see what she says about the invitation," She started.
"What did the letter say?" Rainbow asked.
Pinkie paused as she glanced at her friends. "She's not coming. She said that she doesn't want to come because she believed that we were 'worshipping' the night. She's kidding, right? Slumber parties are not about night worship. They're about having fun and giggling all night. I think I'll visit her and beg her to come, no matter what the circumstances," She said.
"That wouldn't work anyways. Celestia's probably not having a good day," Twilight objected.
"Maybe she's just making excuses or playing a joke on us, as she did before."
"Or, maybe she's unsatisfied with the night," Rainbow said. "This could be why the sun wouldn't move a single inch this week, except for when it's time for her to lower the sun, she just takes a long time."
"It's not good, is it?" Rarity asked.
"Possibly not," Apple Jack said. "The crops would die out."
"At least we have rain to make the world cool off. There's also wind and snow," Fluttershy said.
"It's not about the weather, like duh! It's about Celestia's intentions," Rainbow retorted.
"But, the pegasi can keep the weather in balance by using wind and rain to keep things from heating up so badly. We still need the sun."
"I believe that global warming is getting worse," Twilight said. "The world would heat up from eternal sunlight, just as it would freeze over from eternal darkness."
"Celestia is not to blame. So, it's good that the days are lasting longer," Fluttershy replied.
"This summer is going to be unusually hot," Rarity admitted.
The group saw a few ponies passing out from the extreme heat. "What do you think about this warmth right now, Fluttershy?" Zelda asked Fluttershy.
"No comment..." Fluttershy squeaked.
A very concerned mare ran up to them. "Get indoors or get into the water. The heat wave is very dangerous today. Some ponies are getting heatstroke, and a few winded up in the hospital," She said.
"Wait, what?" Twilight asked. "Is the world ending due to the heat?" She seemed nervous right now. She started hyperventilating, and decided to tell everypony to get indoors.
Rainbow Dash prompted the pegasi to create heavy rain, and the team of weather pegasi listened as the sky started to rain.
5. The Sun's Fury
Luna was tossing and turning in her sleep as the heat got worse. She was having a terrible nightmare that wouldn't easily escape her memory...
The town of Ponyville was burning up into flames as the frightened ponies ran around, full of hysteria and worry. The stallions were cursing, the mares were screaming, and the foals are crying loudly as a reddish-orange mare proceeded to destroy the town. "Hahahaha!" The mare cackled sadistically.
Luna gasped as the mare glared at her with spitefulness. "You think I'm Celestia? The sister you love is long gone!" The mare started.
"Why must you do this, Tia? Lower the sun," Luna replied. "The night exists for a reason, and you're scaring the ponies away because you were bullying them into loving your sun."
"I'm not evil. I must have all of Equestria! The rest of the world shall cower in fear, too!"
"Stop this nonsense, or I'm gathering Twilight and her friends to stop you."
"They can't stop me!" The evil mare chuckled as she proceeded to destroy even more of the town.
"What has gotten into Celestia?" A mare asked in fear.
"She's going to burn us," A stallion commented.
"Where are Twilight and the other heroines?" A filly asked.
"Thou misunderstand, fools! Thou must bask in the glory of our sun, not our sister's tyrannical night! Now, thou will all suffer for loving Luna so much more! Thy deaths are near, because thou will suffer the wrath of our sun," The evil mare shouted.
"Tia, stop!" Luna begged.
"Never, thou cowardly little fool! We shall strip thee of thy title!"
"Why must you betray me?"
"Because thou art not worthy of being a princess. We art the true queen of Equestria! Thou will suffer! We shall no longer be in thy shadow, as thou once stood in ours!"
"Listen, Celestia! I'm not trying to outshine you! They still like the day-"
"Not anymore! See how they react to our sun? They hate the sun!"
Luna gasped in shock as the evil mare that was once her sister chuckled. The scene switched to when the Elements of Harmony were preparing to banish Celestia to the sun.
"You will not consume the world in flames. Hopefully you learn your lesson," Twilight declared.
"Bring back the night," Rarity said.
"Because you betrayed us, we have betrayed you," Rainbow added in.
"Your dishonesty is too much to handle," Apple Jack said. "Luna's not evil anymore, but your thoughts have lied to you!"
"You tried to bully Equestria into loving the daylight so much more," Fluttershy asserted. "That is no way to treat them. That's not very kind at all!"
"You tried to deprive Equestria of their love for the night," Pinkie said.
"My sister, because you tried to convince me to join you in your conquest in making Equestria's way of life worse, you will pay the price for your crimes, as I once did. I... Celestia, I'll miss you," Luna said. "I hope you become good once again..."
The magical beam surrounded the evil mare, and banished her into the sun. Luna attempted to lower the sun, and she was nearly tired from all the effort. She looked up at the darkening sky as she started to sing. "Fate has been cruel, and order unkind..." She started.
The scene switched to when the ponies were celebrating the evil mare's defeat. Luna was watching over the celebration with a bit of sadness. "Tia, how could I have sent you away? The blame was my own, the punishment, yours... The harmony's silent today," She sang.
The scene switched to when Luna was in bed. She sensed the extreme heat, and looked to the left. She froze as she saw the same mare from before. "I will destroy you," The evil mare said.
Luna tried to speak, but no sound would come out. She looked to the right, and saw a huge wall of flame closing in.
Luna woke up with a start as she breathed heavily. She glanced at the alarm clock on her nightstand, and the clock said five-thirty. The cruel sun was shining bright as it started to set. For some unnerving reason, the sun seemed to radiate with spite, jealousy, and bitterness. This made Luna even more concerned for her sister. She didn't want Celestia to follow the same path as Luna once did.
She walked into the dining room, and proceeded to have some breakfast. Celestia entered the dining room, and told the servants to make chocolate cake for her. She seemed a bit moody right now, and Luna felt even more worried for her sister. "Are you okay?" Luna asked.
"I'm fine. No need to be concerned about me," Celestia said darkly.
"Tell me the truth. I can tell when you're lying to me. I mean, it's evident in your body language and your vocal tone. It's even evident in your current attitude."
"You're not the Element of Honesty, so don't bother asking about how my day went-"
"Did you have a bad day?" Luna lifted her brow.
"No... Wait, I mean, yes... I just don't know why I'm like this." Celestia was looking away and staring directly at the setting sun. "I know that you seek the truth, but I don't feel like telling a long monologue about how I felt today."
"You don't have to monologue about your day."
"Good. Well, Day Court was empty as usual, and then Pinkie Pie sent me an invitation and asked if I could go to the slumber party. I sent a reply, saying that I don't want to go. I mentioned in the letter that I'm sick of the ponies partying under the moonlight-"
"It doesn't have to be like that. And you don't have to go if you don't want to, but I'm going. And you're saying that you're angry with the fact that more ponies now enjoy the night. I can sense some jealousy coming from you. I don't want you going down the dark path as I once did. If you do, you'll have to pay the price for trying to set up an eternal daylight everywhere."
"I won't do that, Luna! I promise."
"If that is the case, then why did you lash out at me from time to time? That's not very nice, and that doesn't support the fact that you promised not to go rogue, and..." Luna gestured at the window as Celestia scoffed at her words.
"What is it now?" Celestia asked.
"I was afraid, Tia..."
"Why do you feel that way?"
"Tia, I'm afraid that you're going to become evil! I just had a nightmare about that today."
"Oh, stop it. I'm not going to be like you."
"What do you mean by that?" Luna seemed puzzled, and she wondered if Celestia was still lying to her.
"It's not genetic, so be quiet about it." Right now, Celestia was basically fuming as her anger began to build up inside her heart.
"You don't seem okay to me," Luna finished.
"I'm okay, of course!" Celestia spoke in a voice that wasn't hers, which almost scared Luna. "Why would you be concerned about somepony that's older?"
"Because we're sisters!" Luna frowned at Celestia for a moment. "I care about you."
"Now let me eat my cake!"
A servant brought a bottle of alcohol to the table, and Celestia thanked the servant. Luna felt even more concerned. She knew that alcohol can make somepony violent... "Since when did you become addicted to alcohol?" Luna asked.
"It's none of your business," Celestia retorted.
"But, Tia! You can't do that. You can't get that into your system-"
"I'm an immortal alicorn. I can handle being drunk." Celestia chugged the alcohol and ate the cake in one big bite. She took deep breaths as she finished her dinner. Her eyes narrowed at Luna as Luna gasped in shock.
"Tia, don't..." Luna started.
"WE ART THE SUN! THOU MUST ESCAPE THE SPOTLIGHT! LET US TAKE ALL OF THE GLORY!" Celestia boomed with the Royal Canterlot Voice.
"Oh, no..." Luna shook her head worriedly as she proceeded to soothe her sister. "Calm down!"
"NEVER! GET THINE HOOVES OFF OUR BODY!" Celestia blasted Luna onto the wall, and screamed with anger and hostility.
"Celestia, that wasn't very nice."
"GET OUT OF HERE!"
Midnight Glitter trotted into the dining room, and gasped at the dramatic argument before her. "What's going on?" She asked.
Celestia glared at the unicorn, and proceeded to shout at her. "THE NIGHT GETS TOO MUCH LOVE! EVEN THOU AND THY FAMILY LOVES OUR SISTER!" She hollered.
"Celestia, respect her. You're scaring the filly," Luna said as she jumped in between the two.
"I... I'm not scared," Midnight objected.
"THOU ART FEARING THE SUN INSTEAD OF LOVING OUR GLORIOUS LIGHT!" Celestia bellowed.
"There is no reason to bully others into liking you," Luna said.
"SILENCE!" Celestia finished.
Two ponies rushed into the room, and they watched in horror. "Luna, watch out. She's drunk," The white alicorn warned.
"I must deal with her," Luna replied. "I've dealt with drunk ponies before."
"She could hurt you," The pegasus said.
"WELL, THEN! WE WON'T EVEN BOTHER SPEAKING TO ANY OF THEE! WE ART GOING TO BED!" Celestia shouted as she stomped out of the dining room.
Midnight glanced into Luna's eyes with a hint of fear. "Princess Luna... She scares me so!" She exclaimed as she hugged Luna tightly.
Luna placed her wings over the frightened unicorn and proceeded to comfort her. "Shh, shh... You're safe now..." She whispered softly. "There's no need to be afraid."
"What does she mean by 'we,' Luna?" Link asked.
"I think she's speaking in the Royal We, along with the fearsome Royal Canterlot Voice," Luna replied.
"That explains why she sounds like a medieval queen," Zelda said.
Luna was still holding Midnight protectively as she looked out the window. "Looks like it's time to begin my duties," She finished. "Midnight, try to get to know them. They're not going to hurt you."
Midnight was stubborn, as she hid under Luna, and avoided eye contact with the others. Luna smiled sadly at her. "I know you're frightened, but they won't be cruel to you. Try to warm up to them, please... You're not three anymore. Pretty soon, there would be time for you to start being independent, and if you weren't independent, then you'd spend your adult life being like a scared little filly," Luna reminded her.
"Okay. I will promise to be a bit more independent, but I'm not quite assertive around the bullies."
"Well, then you will need to take lessons in being assertive. There's others that will teach you. You can't always depend on me to stand up for you."
"Alright."
Luna walked out of the dining room, leaving Midnight with Link and Zelda. "Midnight, it's nice to meet you," Zelda said.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, I guess," Midnight replied shyly as she turned her head away.
"Don't be afraid, Midnight. Remember what the princess said?"
"Yes. I think I can start trying to be independent."
"We still need help sometimes, though," Link said.
Midnight nodded in response. "I must get to my studies of black magic and other kinds of magic," She said. "I'm not the type to get out there and make friends."
"Did you say black magic?" Zelda asked. "It can corrupt the user."
"You sound like Princess Luna. Both of you were concerned about that magic."
"That's because she cares about you."
Midnight took out a book of magic and a piece of paper, and sat down as she opened the book. The moon lit up the room, allowing for her to see. Because she's related to the Lunar Ponies, she didn't need as much light. Only a bit of light was fine for her.
6. To Reason With a Falling Angel
Luna sat upon the throne as she watched the ponies crowding into the court. The nightly court was just beginning, and she smiled proudly at the subjects before her. She then remembered an invitation to a party. She cleared her throat and captured the attention of the ponies. "I must cancel the Night Court tonight. I am invited to a party, so I'm not sure when I'll be coming back. You can go back home," Luna announced.
"Aww. I was gonna meet the princess," A filly said.
"Aren't we going to miss out on the night?" A colt added in.
"The princess means well. We must leave," A stallion said.
"That's fine," A mare said.
Luna gracefully trotted out of the castle, and proceeded to fly into Ponyville. The lights in Ponyville turned on, allowing for the ponies to see through the darkness. She landed onto the ground and searched for Sugarcube Corner. "Is Celestia going to be the next Nightmare Moon?" A stallion whispered.
"I don't know. She didn't seem like she could snap," A mare replied.
Luna wondered why Celestia wouldn't stop acting so different. Celestia used to be calm and open-minded, and now she was temparamental and secretive. Luna sighed with worry, hoping that Celestia wouldn't go rogue as Luna once did long ago. She hoped that her dream wouldn't become a real-life situation. She could say that her sister wouldn't try to set off an eternal day and summer everywhere, but that would be a part of denial.
She entered Sugarcube Corner, and the ponies cheered at her arrival. "It's Princess Luna!" A mare exclaimed.
"Hi, Princess Luna!" Pinkie exclaimed. "I wonder why your sister was angry at the night."
Luna paused, and frowned for a second. Suddenly, Pinkie pushed Luna's lips back, making a smile. "Turn that frown upside down! You'll have fun tonight," Pinkie said.
"Okay," Luna said as she smiled sadly. She hoped that her sister wouldn't snap within a second, as Luna once did before becoming Nightmare Moon.
"We're watching Silent Ville first. Look, the movie's going to start! Time for the lights to go off," Pinkie babbled.
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said as the movie started playing on the television.
Luna sat down, and proceeded to watch the movie. "What happens in the movie?" Luna asked. "I've seen a few plays back then, and this is my first time watching a movie."
"You'll see. It's a horror movie, and I've watched it a few times," Rainbow replied.
"Is it old-fashioned horror or modern horror?"
"It's modern," Pinkie said. "Some of those were more like slashers."
"I'm not sure if I can handle watching one, though."
As the scene focused on a little filly looking down into the chasm, the room went quiet. Luna thought that the scene was a bit eerie and suspenseful. "I've never seen a movie, either," Zelda said. "I've only watched a few plays, too."
The group watched the movie for a few hours, and as the movie ended, Pinkie took out an Ouija board and placed it onto the floor. Luna seemed concerned about the Ouija board, as the board would be more than just a game. Once somepony spoke to a spirit, the spirit would invade the world of the living, and potentially destroy lives and even injure the ponies that spoke to the spirit.
Luna started to speak to the ponies before her. "The Ouija board could house a few spirits, so have caution when speaking to them," She warned.
"Okay," Rainbow Dash said. "But, there is no such thing as spirits, right?"
"They could be real," Pinkie Pie said.
A young mare named Paintbrush approached the group with excitement. "I can't wait to play this game," She said.
Paintbrush had a tan coat, a dark brown mane, and copper eyes. Her cutie mark was a paintbrush with blue paint dripping off. She was an unicorn, but her magic wasn't very good.
"Ready?" Pinkie asked as the mares placed their hooves onto the Ouija board.
"Of course," Rainbow Dash replied.
Celestia was tossing and turning in her sleep as she tried to deal with a nightmare. However, her efforts were futile, as a mysterious entity was trying to make her give in...
Celestia was strolling through the courtyard, when suddenly, a wall of flame surrounded her. Everything spun around her, and the scene switched, revealing her dream self and Luna's dream self. The ponies were surrounding them in the Canterlot Ballroom, cheering and smiling as Luna allowed for the moon to rise. Nopony watched the sunset, which made the dream Celestia upset and furious to no end.
"Nopony likes your sun!" A mysterious voice crooned. "Once we merge together, the sun shall be fearsome and worthy of stealing all of the glory! That way, Equestria shall be ours once more! Luna doesn't deserve to be a ruler... You do! She thinks that she can protect the ponies with her 'gentle' moonlight, and she thinks that she could absorb all of the glory just by fighting the nightmares."
The dream ponies cheered louder as Luna's dream self waved at them and smiled. "Thank you for coming here tonight, citizens of Equestria! You have seen the moon rise, and this marks the founding of the Autumn Moon Celebration," She declared proudly.
"Princess Luna! I'm glad to see you again... Wait, why is your sister giving me a cruel glare?" Midnight's dream self started as she approached the dark blue alicorn.
Celestia's dream self glared even more as the flames threatened to escape her horn. The ponies backed up with fear, and the scene switched to when the sun blocked out the moon, marking the beginning of her evil half's terrifying reign. Luna's dream self entered the throne room, seeming concerned and worried for Celestia. "Tia, I won't fight you. Lower the sun," She said. "I won't banish you, either. There's still ponies out there that love you more than I know..."
The evil mare chuckled in response at Luna's words. "Celestia? Haha. I am no longer Celestia! I am Solar Flare, and I shall shroud the whole universe in an eternal daylight and the cruel heat," She started. She flashed a malevolent grin at Luna as she blasted the fiery magic at her.
Celestia gasped at the scene before her, and covered her mouth for a moment. "No... I won't betray my sister for the sake of power," She denied.
"Yes, you will," The mysterious voice objected. "You don't need your sister, your niece, or your former student anyways! You shall be the sole ruler of the whole wide world! There is no need to share the land with others. You can have everything to yourself!"
"Wouldn't that get me banished into the sun?"
"That would be possible, but if that happens, we must immediately have revenge on those that would banish us!"
"You're tempting me."
"That doesn't matter, you weakling. They never saw past your 'benevolent and wise' facade, had they? Of course not! They think you're their goddess, even though you can be a tyrant like me! Let's rule together, as dictators of Earth!"
Suddenly, everything fell silent around Celestia as the world became dark. The mysterious figure glowed in the dark like a bright fireplace, and grinned down at the alabaster alicorn. "You have met your match," The figure said.
"You're Solar Flare, right?" Celestia asked.
"Yes, but you must know that I'm the only one that understands you. Nopony else would! Not even the weak sapling of your foolish little sister, or the cowardly former student of yours!"
"Why did you call them that?"
"Because your Luna and your Twilight Sparkle are not meant to rule! Cadence is not meant to rule, either! You're the only one that's meant to rule!"
"Okay, but why did you not speak hate about Cadence?"
"You mean that cowardly damsel-in-distress? She is also overrated like Twilight anyways. Steal the spotlight from the three alicorns, and make your sun stay in the sky forever!"
Celestia lost all of her confidence for a moment as she thought about Solar Flare's words. Yes, she could be outshined, and maybe she would need to take back all of the spotlight. "I give up on trying to resist the Dark Flame," She finished with no emotion.
"Good... Good..." Solar Flare praised as she stroked Celestia's mane as an adult would do to a foal.
Luna watched as the other ponies fell asleep. She used her magic to enter the dreamscape, as she sensed that something was bothering Celestia in a dream. She entered the dreamscape and looked around, searching for a door with the sun symbol. "Celestia?" Luna asked. "Tia?"
She found a door with Celestia's cutie mark, and went through the door. She saw a wall of flame forming before her, and gasped. "Tia! Don't let the Dark Flame consume you," Luna exclaimed. "Get rid of jealousy!"
Luna flew deeper into the dream, and saw a fiery mare praising Celestia. "Stay away from my sister," Luna shouted.
Celestia gave Luna a death glare, and said nothing. "Tia, what's gotten into you now?" Luna asked. "You didn't give in, did you?"
"You don't see anything," A voice boomed behind Luna, causing her to flinch for a second.
Luna turned, and was startled to see how huge the fiery mare was. The mare was bigger than Celestia, to be exact. "Get out of here. This is a secret, weakling. I am the cruel sun... I am the cruel sun!" The mare started.
"Uh..." Luna stuttered.
"Go away! This is Celestia's secret, not yours. You shall never know! You shall never tell Twilight and her friends to halt Celestia's plans in ruling the world."
"Wait, what?"
"That's right. You don't belong on the throne!"
Luna gasped in horror as the mare stared her down with an intimidating stare. Solar Flare flashed out her wings, and grinned evilly as she saw Luna's reaction to her stare. "You think you know fear? What about now, when you're trembling before me the very second you look into my cruel eyes? And what about when Celestia's lies were giving you nightmares?" Solar Flare bellowed.
Luna tried to find the courage to stand up to this intimidating alicorn that was standing before her. However, she couldn't find any words to say, as she felt very small in the alicorn's gaze. "Don't you think, that even though your needy subjects see you as courageous and noble, that you are actually a shriveling little coward? Don't you think, that even though the children of Equestria adore you, they want to hold on to you, believing in the assumption that you have the valor of a true ruler and queen? How can you be courageous, if you were trembling before me? I can sense your cowardice and your tendency to lean on others for protection," Solar Flare concluded as she levitated a scythe near Luna's neck.
Luna gulped loudly, and stared at the blade. Her heart thundered against her chest wildly as she dared to stare into the alicorn's eyes. She tried not to show fear, but she was sure that the alicorn could see the sheer terror in her teal eyes. "Tia..." Luna squeaked. "How could you do this to me? Why did you allow this villain to intimidate me?"
The scythe pressed against Luna's slender neck as her breath became shallow with fear. "Celestia has betrayed you, fool..." Solar Flare finished. "She doesn't love you anymore."
Luna gasped in shock as she backed up from the towering mare. She then remembered her concern for Celestia, and her fear melted away from her heart as she stood tall. "Leave Celestia alone, or else!" Luna asserted.
"Bring it," Solar Flare demanded.
"Okay!" Luna flew into the air, and conjured a magic beam to stop Solar Flare. Solar Flare shot a fiery beam, pushing the magical beam towards Luna.
"Ah!" Luna screamed. She felt the heat overwhelm her as she got pushed out of Celestia's dream. She soon found herself in the dreamscape once again, and looked around. She saw that the door with the sun symbol was locked up and couldn't be opened at all. She wanted to save Celestia, but how can she do that if Solar Flare was powerful and intimidating?
Luna got out of the dreamscape, and she was in the real world right now because she didn't want to get killed by Solar Flare. She also didn't want to fight Celestia if Celestia ever went rogue. She was sure, that after getting out of the dreamscape, she heard an apology echoing across the dreamscape. That voice probably belonged to Celestia. Luna thought about going back to her duties, and just as she got up, she heard cheering outside the door. She walked out to see what was the commotion about, and saw a familiar unicorn creating a few illusions.
"Princess Luna! This unicorn was very cool. She's just so dazzling," A mare told her.
"Dazzling?" Luna asked. She wasn't sure about the unicorn. The unicorn failed an entrance exam last year, and as a result, the unicorn's last words were resentful and jealous towards Midnight Glitter.
"Hey, Jade Star. I was wondering why you are taking the glory," Luna started as the unicorn glared at her.
"Princess Luna... It is you who chose Midnight over me! I felt so angry about that," Jade retorted with hate. "Where is she now, that glory hog? I want her now!"
The crowd gasped in shock at Jade's harsh words. "Midnight Glitter took your interest, and nopony saw my illusions that night when you were there, watching me with boredom! You chose that nerdy introvert over me," Jade concluded. "Well, I chose to be somepony else's student anyways, but it was not Celestia... Instead, it was the Nightmare."
Luna gasped at Jade Star's words. "I am appalled by your words and your decision to join the Dark Side. You can't stop Midnight Glitter just because she was very nice and intelligent," She admitted.
Jade Star grunted as she looked around. "You lied, Jade! You're allied with Nightmare Moon!" A stallion heckled.
"SHUT UP!" Jade bellowed as she glared at the stallion. Her light purple mane flinged across her face as her ruby eyes glinted with spite.
The onyx unicorn glanced at Luna, and then she glanced at the path to the Everfree. "Why, you'll see how much I detest the sunny sister of yours!" Jade finished as she turned towards the Everfree. She ran off, allowing the crowd to chase after her with pitchforks and torches.
Only one of the citizens remained near Luna. "So, she lied to us the whole time. She lied about being good at any kind of magic, and she was trying to take the glory... Princess Luna, is that true that she tried to become your student?" The mare asked.
"She tried, but failed in an exam and shouted resentful words at me because of that. She promised that she would destroy Midnight Glitter, who was currently my star pupil," Luna replied. "And just call me Luna. There's no reason to be formal right now, young mare."
"It would be nice if Midnight Glitter destroyed Jade Star in battle anyways. I would love to see that happen."
"I'm not sure if that would happen. You have watched too many plays about rivalry, haven't you?"
"Actually, I saw a movie about a similar kind of rivalry where the two characters fought over the same goal. The hero gets to defeat his rival that was the villain, while the villain would be punished and scorned."
"Well, Jade Star will get punished if she ever attempts to exact her revenge on my faithful student."
Luna turned her head to the left, and proceeded to fly to the castle. The moon would set on the horizon very soon, but the ponies were probably not willing to wake up, as the daylight would exhaust them to no end nowadays. She entered the castle, and to her surprise, Celestia was already awake. She had dark circles under her eyes, and she was scowling. She seemed grouchy and moody. "Celestia... If I got into your dream, then... Perhaps you didn't want me there. I must have entered the dream at the wrong time, because Solar Flare was bullying me without any hesistation," Luna started.
"No, it's nothing, actually... I'm fine. You just got into the dream because you were too concerned with me. Shouldn't you be concerned about your unconcious ability to steal all of the glory?" Celestia retorted.
"I'm not trying to steal all of the glory. Just calm down, Tia..."
"Go away, Luna!"
"Fine, but you won't need to give in to Solar Flare's lies at all."
"Nightmare Moon..."
Luna flinched. She couldn't believe that Celestia would treat her like that right now. Luna knew that she was not evil anymore, but was Solar Flare causing Celestia to bully her? Luna couldn't fathom the fact that Celestia was changing from a sweet mare to a cruel tyrant. Celestia's pupils changed to cat-like pupils as she grinned darkly. "You think you know how to be a true ruler, fool... Well, you don't!" Celestia shouted in a voice that wasn't hers. "Get rid of the useless night already and make way for my ever-glorious sun!"
"Celestia! Stop," Luna begged. "It's not dawn already. It's only four thirty in the morning."
"So that marks the time for the sun to rise! The sun rises... And my sun is not that bright a light!"
"It's brighter than the moon."
"The moon may plead and threaten, but the sun will stand her ground!" Celestia stomped on the floor with her front hooves as she lost her temper.
"Celestia! Are you corrupted?"
"No! I want them to see the sun's true glory! However, while the ponies may awake during my day, they toil hard and complain about the day as they hide their fragile eyes with sunglasses! And they lather on loads of sunscreen to keep from being warmed by my sun!"
"They're being smart, not afraid!" Luna felt like raising her voice, but reminded herself that she was not the older one, but the younger one.
Celestia shouted with anger as she quickly made the sun rise, blotting out the moon and the stars as a result. She breathed heavily as a result as she felt more resentful than ever. "Tia..." Luna murmured gently, as if to soothe her sister into a state of calmness.
Celestia's eyes returned to normal, and her mane rippled gently once again. She simply sighed, and looked out the window. She was staring directly at the sun, never intending to look away from the bright daystar. "You kind of messed with the ponies' sleeping patterns. You're going to set off a prolonged summer with constant heatwaves if you continue like this," Luna reminded her. She felt the heat of the summer day enter the room quickly.
Luna never saw the sun shine even brighter than before. Now this room seemed pale and saturated because of the excess sunlight. "Whoa, tone it down," She finished.
"Never," Celestia muttered.
Luna sighed in defeat, feeling helpless in this situation. She wondered how else to help her sister steer away from the Dark Side. She had pleaded, reasoned, gave advice, and even warned her... But, nothing would work on her dear sister.
Author's note: What do you think of this story so far? And the ending scene in this episode was somewhat inspired by the scene from Frozen. It's hard to create episodes sometimes when I'm focused on other things or when I couldn't find inspiration. This season may have 13 to 15 episodes, or maybe a bit less. I will focus more on the others in the future.
7. Dealing with the Heat
Late in the morning, Zelda woke up and walked out of Sugarcube Corner. She felt like a nomad, going from place to place just to sleep somewhere. The delicious smell of cinnamon wafted into her nose as she looked to the right. "I wonder if they have anything to give me," She said. "I don't know about their currency, though."
She saw a few stallions walk past her, and thought for a moment as she noticed the coins in their saddlebags. Maybe that was the currency of Equestria... She smirked, and activated her magic to take some of the coins when they weren't looking. Zelda trotted away to the building with the delicious smell, and entered the building. "She's not Celestia. Why does she even come here?" A mare whispered.
"She could be working for the agents of evil," A stallion said. "Don't be fooled by her. She may seem-"
"I'm not evil. I think you're just referring to a villain that I knew from another world," Zelda objected.
"Such cruelty and sharpness," Another stallion commented.
Zelda gazed at them with scorn, turned her head away, and walked to the counter, where an old mare was hiding, cowering in fear of the alicorn's presence. "Rise," Zelda commanded. "And I will pay you for serving me. What are you serving this morning?"
"Uh, um... I am serving cinnamon rolls and some cherry pancakes. Which d-do y-you want?" The mare replied.
"I will have the cinnamon rolls this morning. I'll also have a glass of wine."
"Actually, they don't go together-"
Zelda flashed out her wings, and stared into her eyes. "It doesn't matter. I haven't ate all morning because I was tired last night from staying up for a slumber party," She said.
"O-okay... H-here you go..." The old mare quickly gave the cinnamon rolls and a glass of wine to the alicorn.
Zelda levitated a few coins and placed them onto the counter. "Thanks," She finished coldly as she trotted to a lone table next to the window. Link walked into the building, and proceeded to sit next to Zelda.
"How was the party?" Link asked. "It's a bummer when I don't get to see that nocturnal beauty..."
"Maybe you'll see her sometime. Trust me, she's not always busy. She could make time for you if she had a break from her duties," Zelda replied. "How did you sleep? Did you have any strange dreams?"
"I had a dream in which Twilight and her friends were kidnapped by a fiery mare, and the fiery mare tried to convince Princess Luna into joining the dark side. And another dream came along, involving the banishment of the fiery mare. The dreams seemed so real that I wanted to warn Princess Luna about that mare."
"She may not believe you at first, for she loves her sister, and..."
"Some ponies mentioned a few things about her sister's current attitude towards the night and the whole kingdom of Equestria."
"You're not saying..."
"That is true. There were reports of Celestia losing her head at the slightest mention of her sister or the night. There was a speculation about Celestia becoming the next 'Nightmare Moon,' because the days were longer and hotter than usual this season."
"Actually, I believe that it's late summer. Fall is coming soon. Stop being so clueless, Link."
"I can't help it."
"That's because you're not Celestia."
Zelda then paid attention to the other conversations in the building. She heard one of them talking about Celestia and Luna.
"I wonder what Celestia would call her evil side once she goes rogue as her sister once did... Daymare Sun, Blazing Ember, Deadly Sunburn, Radiant Sun, Dark Flame, Blackhole Sun, or maybe even Solar Flare. She is getting worse every month, and I'm nervous about going to the gala next Friday. What if she suddenly snapped?" A mare said.
"Don't worry. Luna would know what to do if that happens. She can protect us, as she did with the young ones in their dreams," A stallion reassured.
"And if Luna can't bring herself to stop her sister's dark side?"
"Then Twilight and her friends would do the slack for the moon princess."
Suddenly, a mare on the television started speaking. "I must inform you that a severe heat wave is now all over Equestria. The sun's rays are able to pententrate through the windows to push the harsh heat into buildings and vehicles. Anypony who dares venture outside will easily get sunburned. I advise you to stay indoors as much as possible with proper air conditioning, despite the high costs of air conditioning," She warned.
"Damn you, Celestia!" A stallion shouted.
"Now I can't enjoy a walk in the park," A mare complained.
"Darn it. I was planning to go into the forest this afternoon for some crusading," A filly moaned.
"What a buzzkill. I was planning to throw my graduation party at the beach," Another mare muttered.
Zelda and Link could sense the negativity surge through the room, because most of the ponies seemed either disappointed or angry with the sun and the heat. "Oh, let's get out of here," Zelda muttered to Link. "This place is just being so negative."
They walked outside, and felt the extreme heat touching their bodies. It was possibly about a hundred and few degrees out today, which could be a concern, since global warming could equal drought and many other deadly events. There could be a genocide, too. They walked out of the town, and soon found themselves in the country area. They saw a familiar group of ponies and approached them. "Hello," Zelda said.
"Hi," Twilight and her friends replied in unison.
"Didn't you hear of the warning about today's weather?" Link asked.
"Yes, but we have to meet together and discuss ways to solve the problem," Twilight said.
"We can't talk forever. Look, the crops are dying out," Apple Jack admitted.
"For some strange reason, Celestia decreed that there would be no rain blocking the sun today," Rainbow Dash complained. "I hope that doesn't happen again."
"Some of my animals became sick from the extreme heat," Fluttershy whispered.
"This dreadful heat is giving me a bad hair day. And I'm sweating, which is disgusting," Rarity whined.
"I don't know what to say, but it's better than winter anyways," Pinkie Pie quipped.
"It's not good," Zelda reminded her. "Some ponies are suffering from the cruel heat today!"
"Now, I can't wait for Luna's cool night. The heat is killing me," Link admitted.
"I don't know what we're going to do. Should we send a letter to Celestia about this?" Apple Jack groaned.
"I think we should, but she wouldn't listen nowadays. Something's on her mind and there's no reason for her to be jealous of Luna for getting more praise," Twilight confided.
"What should we do?" Rarity asked. "You're our princess, Twilight. You can do something. You can easily convince Celestia."
"What if she doesn't listen?"
"Then we must protest against all of that, and-" Rainbow Dash started.
"No! We still need the heat and the sun," Fluttershy interrupted.
"Fluttershy, this is an issue, and it's nothing beneficial!" Rainbow narrowed her eyes at the yellow pegasus.
"Oh, come on now! Twilight, think of something!" Apple Jack forced.
"At least we have air conditioning. Duh!" Pinkie interjected.
"The animals won't survive in the cruel heat," Fluttershy reminded them.
"This heat is so dreadful! My date will surely reject me tonight," Rarity complained.
"Don't pressure Twilight too much. Give her time," Zelda told them.
"Listen to Zelda," Link added in.
The group argued for about an half hour, and finally, Twilight snapped big time. "Guys, guys! That's enough! I need time to think! I'm not Celestia, but I have to think about your words and how you feel about the sun and the heat! And I may send a letter to her to remind her of the severity of today's heat!" Twilight bellowed, causing the group to become as silent as night.
She took out a scroll and a quill, and started writing a message. "Dear Celestia, I'm writing to you about the extreme heat and the excess sunlight. I know it's summer, but you have to be easy on us. There's no need to take it out on Luna and her night... That will hurt her feelings and I don''t want to go through another Nightmare Moon crisis. Also, slumber parties are not about night worship like you thought. I think you're just being disrespectful without knowing it," She said as she finished the letter.
She sent the letter, and a scroll appeared in front of her. She started reading, and she gasped loudly. "Celestia won't listen," Twilight exclaimed.
"What?" Apple Jack asked in shock. "We need to get Celestia's mind straight. She didn't seem like her usual self!"
"Oh, my..." Fluttershy whispered.
"This can't be true!" Rarity complained.
"No... More... Slumber... Parties?" Pinkie Pie asked with sadness.
"Maybe her sister knows about what's really going on. We may ask her for advice, but she might be sleeping and won't be awake at this time of day," Rainbow Dash suggested. "Tell us what the letter says, anyways."
"Alright, in the letter, she said that she isn't doing anything to hurt Luna and thought herself correct to delay the coming of her sister's night. She didn't even apologize about not going to the slumber party with Luna. Also, Celestia wrote this complaint about the fact that many more ponies are anticipating the arrival and coming of night. She also despised the fact that the ponies were shunning her day and its warmth," Twilight said.
"What was in her mind this time? Has she gone delusional?" Rainbow asked.
"I don't think she might have, but I think Luna will have the answers. She'd speak kindly of Celestia, unlike you. You jump to conclusions without thinking, Rainbow. Luna makes more logical and wise points because she had years of experience and she knew her sister really well."
"But she had to be sent away as Nightmare Moon long ago, though."
"Luna is not evil anymore, okay? I've said that many times, especially during Nightmare Night one time."
As the group spoke, the day slowly and unwillingly passed as the sun prepared to set into the horizon. The coolness of the coming night filled the world, and made the ponies filled with relief as the moon started to rise into the darkening sky. "Whew, finally," Rainbow said. "At least the day didn't last forever."
"Yeah. That would have caused drought and destroyed the crops," Apple Jack agreed.
"The night came. Let's celebrate," Pinkie exclaimed.
"This isn't a time to celebrate yet. We're getting into a serious and sticky situation," Rarity objected. "And I'm going to meet my date after I take a cold shower."
"I must go home to check on my animals. Some of them winded up in the vetinary hospital because of the extreme heat," Fluttershy spoke.
"I may speak to Luna on the behalf of her sister. She may listen and understand," Twilight said.
"I'll follow you," Link said.
"Why are you always aiming to see Luna?" Zelda asked.
"Because I like her."
"You always did that whenever you have a crush on a dark princess!"
"Not always. Midna tried to use me one time, and Hilda tried to get the Triforce from us so that she could restore Lorule. At least you and I didn't give in."
"Hilda was successful though. She stole it, and I couldn't struggle. Perhaps if I was much stronger, then she would not take the Triforce at all."
Zelda and Link followed Twilight to Canterlot Castle, and entered the castle's throne room. Luna was sitting upon the throne, and gazed at the citizens before her. She was smiling as she watched them come close to her. "Greetings, Twilight. Is there a problem you need to tell me about? I've heard recent complaints about how cruel the heat was to them. Some ponies suffered from heatstroke today, and a few got an illness from the heat," Luna started.
"Yes. Every time I sent a letter to convince Celestia to stop doing this, she would not listen," Twilight replied. "Was she the same around you?"
"Of course. Celestia would snap at me from time to time, and it's getting worse. I have a fear that she would go rogue someday." Luna sighed deeply as her expressive eyes saddened for a moment.
"What would you do, then?" Zelda asked.
"I wouldn't want to banish her, but I don't want her to be a danger to Equestria, either. I can't imagine her plunging the world into an eternal daylight, where the crops would suffer, and drought would be worldwide," Luna confided.
"Me either. If her evil side was too much for us to stop, then we have to do what we have to do, as Celestia once did with Nightmare Moon long ago," Twilight admitted.
"I'd feel alone again if I banished my sister to the sun for many years."
"Don't worry. There are friends that will stick by you," Link reassured Luna.
A tear streamed down Luna's left cheek as she frowned for a moment. "If trying to release Celestia from the Forces of Darkness won't release her, then... she would not be here to rule by my side and to stand up for me. And the upcoming Autumn Moon Celebration would feel like a funeral. I don't want to banish Celestia someday... I just... It'll be hard without her," She sobbed.
Luna was surprised to feel Twilight hugging her tightly, reminding her that it'll be alright and that Luna may go through this with strength. "Luna..." Twilight whispered.
"What's going on?" A youthful voice asked.
Zelda looked to the left, and noticed Midnight Glitter observing the situation before her. "Midnight, it'll be hard to see your mentor as not infallible, but a pony like all of us. But, you have to be strong for her sometimes, as she was for you," Zelda reminded her.
"Wait, what?" Midnight asked.
A few minutes after Luna stopped sobbing, she took a deep breath and proceeded to calm down. "Let's move on. I can't keep my subjects waiting," She said.
Twilight left, and Zelda and Link remained in the throne room. Midnight walked up to Luna, and started to speak. "Princess Luna, did something happen?" She asked.
"Well, Celestia is changing for the bad, so there is a possible chance that she may become evil. I might get forced to banish her someday if it happens," Luna replied. "Did you learn any lessons tonight?"
"Yes. I found that an older pony may seem infallible from just one glance, but once you get to know them, they're actually fallible, as they have emotions and they don't always win."
"Did Zelda tell you that?"
"Yes."
"Good, but you can't always depend on someone to learn a lesson that may be important later in life."
Luna turned her attention to Link and Zelda, and smiled benevolently. "You must remember this and understand... Darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good. You'll know the meaning when something happens badly in sheer daylight," She said. "Good deeds and acts are sometimes done at night. I deal with nightmares, and I gave advice to a few fillies when I got into their dreams."
Midnight listened to their conversation, and a question popped up in her mind. "Are they going to be your students, too?" She asked Luna.
"No, but they have to learn from the wiser ones, be it any good morals or life lessons," Luna reminded her.
"Oh, I see."
Luna chuckled gently for a moment, and Midnight sat next to her. Once again, Luna glanced at Zelda and Link, and her mind started to focus on something. She stared into Link's eyes for a few seconds, and Link did the same. Luna blushed softly, and Link turned his head away shyly. They heard Zelda and Midnight giggling, possibly at the two that just locked eye contact.
"You'll probably be adorable together," Midnight said.
"From dark princess to dark princess, this always happens like this... Link meets a dark princess and develops a crush on her," Zelda agreed.
8. A talk about the gala
One evening, as Zelda and Link were relaxing in the Canterlot Castle's living room, they heard footsteps coming in. Standing in the door was the regal princess of the night. "I came here to give you an invitation. You are coming to the gala next Friday. You will wear formal attire, and I'll be in the ballroom, waiting..." Luna started as she glanced at Link. She smiled softly and giggled for a few seconds.
Soon, Link found himself gazing into Luna's eyes. He was reminded of the infinite and endless night sky with many stars dotted across the sky, and the moon hanging high in the inky blackness. Her expressive eyes melted his heart and reminded him of a sort of longing... Possibly a longing for love.
Luna stared into Link's eyes, too. When she did, she was reminded of a strong and valiant knight that would be loyal to his friends and a certain maiden that he would possibly rescue from an enemy. She thought that Link was incredibly handsome, especially with that occasionally cocky smile of his.
Zelda watched as the two gazed at each other. Maybe I could play matchmaker on the night of the gala. Those two seem perfect for each other, She thought as she smirked knowingly.
"So, what will you be wearing on that night?" A familiar voice asked, scaring the daylights out of Luna, Link, and Zelda.
"I didn't expect you to be here. I thought you were studying," Luna told Midnight. "Aren't you supposed to look for a certain book in the Canterlot Library?"
"I was trying to, but Celestia rushed in and shouted at me. She chased me out of the library, hollering obscenities at me," Midnight replied.
"That's not nice, is it? I'll see Celestia about this matter once I'm done with this conversation with Link and Zelda." Luna held her left wing to hide her adorable blush, and giggled softly as she turned her attention to Link and Zelda. The two heroes of Hyrule found it to be adorable, and Midnight thought that there may be something between Link and Luna.
Luna trotted into the hallway, and found Celestia crouching in a corner, muttering about something. "Celestia?" Luna asked softly. As she approached her, scenarios ran through her mind. Celestia could not respond at all and give the wall a blank stare. Maybe she could give Luna an evil glare with the hollowed eyes like in the horror movies. Even worse, Celestia could burst into flames and become Solar Flare, a terrifying mare of flames and eternal daylight.
"Go away," Celestia said emotionlessly.
"At least tell me what's wrong. You're not going to keep secrets from me forever."
"I said, go away. I can hear a thing or two about moon worship in the castle's living room."
"There's nothing about moon worship. We didn't even mention that subject."
"You invited them to the gala... TO ADORE YOU! WHY?"
Celestia lost her temper and whirled onto Luna. "You took all the love and you stole the spotlight! Now all the young ones in Equestria looked to you with awe because of your ability to control their dreams and to give them advice! I know the night would take all of the glory," She continued. "I bet the children are coming to the gala next Friday to worship you."
"I'm not a goddess, and neither are you," Luna replied. "So, stop with this thinking and keep the darkness from consuming your mind and soul."
"Shut up!"
"No! I know you're jealous, but-"
"I SAID, SHUT UP!"
Everything fell silent between the two sisters. Luna stared into Celestia's spiteful eyes, and Celestia stared into her concerned, yet stern eyes. "Tia, you don't have to be like this," Luna said as her eyes saddened.
"What I don't understand is the fact that those Cutie Mark Crusaders fell in love with the night after you came into their dreams. A pony even considered you to be his favorite princess. My former students and her friends once stared at the night sky with awe during the meteor shower. It was your night they all chose, not my glorious sunlight! They chose your night over my day! Ponies are afraid to be in the heat, and they would dare hide their eyes from my sun," Celestia retorted.
"There's still ponies that-"
"You already told me that, and the truth is that nopony would even watch the sun rising. They watch the sunset only to await your night! And, the Autumn Moon Celebration would basically start with partying all night and seeing through the night!"
"There's more to the celebration than that."
"Remember what happened those few weeks ago during the Summer Sun Celebration? Nopony would see the sun rise. They slumbered in homes, traveled away, and went to work!"
"Everypony was busy by then! You can't blame them!"
"Yes, I can!"
"Solar Flare was probably lying to you again, right?"
"She never lied. She only told-"
"Celestia! What have we done to deserve that kind of treatment?"
"Nothing. They deserve me, not you."
"Has power really corrupted you? What were your intentions, Tia?"
"Nothing. Go away, Luna."
Luna sighed hopelessly as she trotted back to the living room. It's possibly too hard being royal, right? Sometimes, she wished for a normal life where she and her sister weren't known well. That'd be easier for her to handle things with her sister...
Just then, she heard loud banging and clashing. She wondered what her sister did this time. She rushed to Celestia's room, and gasped at the sight. Everything was broken into pieces, and Celestia just broke the mirror. Glass was scattered across the floor, and the fabric was all over the place, and so was cotton. Tons of powdery makeup was in a heap next to the broken dresser. "Get out. It was nothing," Celestia muttered as her eyes narrowed at Luna.
"Stop lying," Luna pressed. "There's no reason to take out your anger on your possessions, too... Unless you strongly detest one of your possessions."
"I'm not going to the gala next Friday."
"Give them a chance!"
"I won't."
"Please..."
"No!"
"I'll share the spotlight-"
"Everypony would run to you and worship you!" Celestia's magic levitated Luna's crown and tossed it out the window.
Luna felt shocked for a moment. "Celestia! That was nasty of you to do this," She said as she flew out the window.
Cliffhanger... Because I don't have enough time. I was staying with an annoying relative and had to always go somewhere. I hate her so much! Anyways read and review. I also got writer's block because I always had to go somewhere. My annoying relative basically took me out of my sister's house and kept me there for the rest of the week.
9. Gala Preparations and a Love Letter
The sun was rising as Zelda and Link entered Ponyville. The weekend ended, making it four days before the Summer's End Gala. The town was still a bit still, as the ponies were either eating breakfast or sleeping in, or even working somewhere. Maybe this is why Celestia must have felt uptight about the recent complaints about her day and her sun. "Hello," A familiar alabaster unicorn said. "How are you today? We've got to prepare for the gala. We must wear something specific to the theme. I'll find you something."
Rarity led them to the Carousel Boutique, and showed Zelda a few dresses. "Which one do you like?" She asked.
Zelda glanced at the dresses for a moment. The first dress seemed overdone, as it had too many fancy colors and fabrics. The main color of the dress was bright pink, with gold lining that seemed to contrast, and the lace was of pale lilac. The shoes had too many diamonds on the front. "This one hasn't been bought in months. I guess it might stay in my closet if no one wanted to get this," Rarity said.
"Okay. Let's move on to the next one. I'm not a total girly-girl," Zelda replied as they looked at the second dress.
The dress was of a dark magenta hue, with a silver lining and the roses on the neck area. The skirt area had ruffles, and the shoes were dark red. The mix of those colors usually signified romance, so Zelda wasn't going with a date. She would be going with didn't like the dress very much, so her nose scrunched up a bit. She turned her attention to the third dress, and smiled faintly.
The third dress was of a light purple, with the white underneath the lavender sash. The shoes were of a copper color, and the necklace was of a turquoise color. There was a silver tiara on the head of the mannequin, with a sapphire in the center. "I like this one," Zelda said.
"Okay. Try it on. I'll find a tuxedo for Link," Rarity replied as Zelda went into the dressing room.
Link felt a bit uncomfortable looking for something to wear. "I want something comfortable," He said.
"I don't think you can wear formal clothes and be comfortable at the same time," Rarity replied.
"Okay. I like medium green, with some grey and white."
"I have something like that. Hold on one second, okay?"
"Alright. I'll wait."
A young dragon walked into the boutique, and looked around. He seemed confused for a moment. "Where's Rarity?" He asked.
"Rarity is busy trying to find something for me," Link replied. "A tuxedo. That's what I need for the gala, else I would have been asked to leave."
"Oh." Spike thought it made sense, though he felt like seeing Rarity today.
A second later, Rarity brought out a few tuxes, and asked Link about which one he wanted to wear to the gala. Link chose the first one, for the tuxedo was grey, and the tie was medium green. The shoes were also grey. "Try it on," Rarity said.
Link went into the dressing room, and Zelda walked out. Her mane was perfectly styled, with most of her mane going down her back and her bangs elegantly braided with a pale silver lining. "Gorgeous," Rarity commented.
"I'm not going with someone, though," Zelda said. "Which is fine, because I prefer not to get into romance so quickly."
"You can take that to home- or wherever you live."
"Link and I were trying to find an apartment in Canterlot. But, he prefers this quaint town over the city of Canterlot, so..."
"That's fine."
"I prefer to be more independent than to be surrounded by guards and servants. I had them back in Hyrule. This felt new, as I am finally doing my own thing."
"That's neat. You're probably almost as independent as Twilight."
Link walked out of the dressing room a few minutes later. "How dashing. I'm sure Princess Luna would love to see you in this getup," Zelda complimented.
Link blushed softly for a moment. "I bet, but it's a surprise," He said.
"You're trying to win her heart? Aww, how cute," A voice crooned softly.
"Discord?" Rarity asked in surprise.
"I decided to come here," Discord lied.
"Oh, please. We all know how mischievous you can be."
"Oh, actually, I was trying to help the Cutie Mark Crusaders to get their cutie marks, but nothing worked well. They got ungrateful and left."
"Oh, you're a terrible liar," A youthful voice exclaimed.
"Sweetie Belle, what antics did he do to get you and your friends a few cutie marks?" Rarity asked.
Sweetie Belle went to Rarity, and spoke. "He made us race cars, go ice skating, and such. You never know what's he's gonna do next," She confided.
"Okay. I'm going to the gala this Friday-"
"You don't like the gala because of that prince."
"Princess Luna invited us to the gala."
"Can I go, too?" Sweetie Belle's eyes widened, which the onlookers found to be adorable.
"Yes, but you have to wear something formal. You can take your friends to the gala."
"Thank you!" Her voice was high-pitched and loud as she hopped around her sister.
Sweetie Belle hopped up to her room, and the two heroes of Hyrule took off their outfits. "Make sure you keep them in a safe place, where they won't get dirty," Rarity advised the two. "Or worse, stolen."
Rarity's friends entered the boutique, and Zelda and Link immediately left. "I never thought that I'd be more busy. These two were additions to the kingdom," Rarity told Twilight.
"You don't like them?" Twilight asked as she lifted her brow.
"Zelda was interesting, yet a bit scary. Link was handsome, and it's unfortunate that he's falling for the more beautiful princess."
"Why are you a bit jealous of Princess Luna? You should be happy that they may hook up someday," Apple Jack asked.
"Luna and Link sitting in a tree, kissing, k-i-s-s-" Pinkie Pie sang as Rainbow Dash shushed her by placing a hoof onto her mouth.
"Stop. I don't like to hear about kissing. It's gross," Rainbow interrupted.
"Okay," Pinkie muttered.
"They'd be adorable together," Fluttershy commented.
"The two would be kissy-kissy with each other!" Pinkie continued.
"He doesn't deserve a snob like you," Apple Jack remarked to Rarity.
"Whatever. I'll find another stallion. Hopefully Fancy Pants is free to kiss," Rarity replied bitterly.
"Come on, take a joke," Rainbow said.
"We need dresses for the gala," Twilight said, but the others didn't listen to her as they continued speaking to each other.
"One day, I was swinging in the park with Cheese Sandwich-" Pinkie started.
"I was flying in the air with Soarin when suddenly, he did an awkward gesture and attempted to-" Rainbow butted in.
"And Apple Bloom once had nightmares about a cutie mark, and Princess Luna saved the day- I mean, night. Also-" Apple Jack started.
"I swear, I'm not jealous of the night princess! Who would be jealous of somepony that once became Nightmare Moon for no reason-" Rarity interrupted.
"Twilight said that she's not evil anymore, so-" Fluttershy objected.
"What if she lied? We could banish Luna to the moon if we get a chance!"
"Honestly, Luna isn't going to become evil anymore! I'm sure of it," Apple Jack reassured Rarity.
"Then Cheese fell onto the ground, and got scraped. I kissed his scraped cheek, and he blushed-" Pinkie quipped.
"Soarin attempted to kiss me!" Rainbow shouted. "How gross is that? I'm not falling for him, honest..."
"Girls? Girls!" Twilight screamed above the noisy chatter. Nopony listened to her, so she continued screaming as a last resort as she did last time when her friends chattered and argued.
"And then Cheese-" Pinkie finished as the room went silent. "Oops, sorry."
Twilight huffed a few times as she started to speak. "I can't think when you were all being dramatic and noisy! I'm out of here," She screamed. "And Rarity, make the dresses for us and don't speak of Princess Luna with venom! That's no way to respect her. If she was here, and you're making a dress for her by using measurements, then she would not like you. She'd deem you to be disrespectful! She promised all of us that she won't be evil again, remember?"
"Okay..." Rarity whispered. "Sorry about that."
"Good."
Twilight stomped out of the boutique, leaving her friends in the building. Spike followed behind, and smiled for a moment. "You're scary when you're angry. You seem like the night princess sometimes," Spike commented.
Twilight groaned and glared into Spike's eyes. "What? I'm just being honest," Spike confided nervously.
"Okay..." Twilight muttered in response.
Spike stood on the sidewalk as Twilight went home. He went back into the boutique, and proceeded to speak to Rarity.
Meanwhile, as Link entered his apartment in Ponyville, he decided to write a letter to the night princess. He took out a quill and a piece of paper, and started writing on a desk. "Dear Princess Luna, I've been itching to tell you this... You are the most beautiful princess that I have met. Even though you said that you went dark one time, you were still a good pony. I have grown fond of you, and I wonder if you have grown fond of me, too. Every time I close my eyes, I think about your gorgeous cerulean eyes, your gorgeous night mane, and your benevolent grin that you give me whenever we were face-to-face. Your smile fills my heart with passion and love... Yours sincerely, Link," He wrote.
He placed the paper into the envelope, and walked out of the building. A mailmare walked by, and stopped as she noticed the envelope that Link was holding. "Are you sending it to someone?" She asked.
"Of course. I'm sending it to Princess Luna," Link replied.
"Okay. I'll take it to her."
The mailmare took the envelope and flew away. Link could only hope to fall in love with the princess of the night...
10. Gala Gone Wrong
One evening, Zelda and Link were prepared for the gala, and so were their friends. Zelda's hair was perfectly styled and brushed, and her bangs were braided. She looked beautiful, although she didn't like being formal. She wore the gala dress, and Link wore a tuxedo. Link's hair was slicked back to seem more handsome and formal, although he didn't like the look. The two entered the castle's ballroom, and they met up with Twilight and her friends.
Twilight wore a hot pink dress with a few purple bows on the back of her cape. Her shoes match the color of the dress, and she wore the gold crown with magenta gems. There were also magenta gems on her shoes.
Rarity wore a red dress with a silver petticoat, and her hair was perfectly styled into a bun, with her bangs curled. Rainbow Dash wore a colorful dress, and Fluttershy wore a pastel blue dress with flowers on it. Pinkie wore a gigantic hot pink dress with candies on it. Apple Jack wasn't there because she didn't want to go.
Many mares and stallions were dancing with each other and flirting with each other. A few groups came as friends, so there's not too much romance here. The Cutie Mark Crusaders wore dresses of their favorite color. Apple Bloom wore a pink dress, Sweetie Belle wore a lilac dress, and Scootaloo wore a green dress with a picture of a scooter.
The Cutie Mark Crusaders were with their friends, and they stood next to the steps, awaiting the arrival of the Night Princess. Luna and Celestia were still in the hallway, and spoke endlessly of the gala. Luna was pleading; Celestia would refuse each time.
"Give them a chance," Luna begged her sister.
"No. That is my response," Celestia retorted.
"Come on! There's still ponies that love you."
"It's not happening! The answer is no, and no means no!"
"Please..."
"I'm not going to."
"Please! It will be boring without you!" Luna's pleading eyes went wide, and Celestia huffed loudly.
"Leave," Celestia finished. "I don't like your night. The gala would suck as well."
"Come! Give them a chance..."
"No... I already said no! You've been begging all afternoon!"
"They would think that you're no longer interested in them!"
"Okay, fine... But, please don't speak to the foals-"
"I can't help it! I love them, and you can't stop me from being so kind to them!"
The two sisters approached the steps, and the crowd cheered. Luna wore a sapphire gown with the colors of the sunset, and the diamonds on the sapphire shade. Her gown was glittering, and so was her crown for the gala. She looked beautiful, possibly more beautiful than her older sister. Celestia wore a bright pink gown with orange, red, and yellow around the pink areas. Some ponies thought that her dress was overdone; Luna's style was simply elegant and very regal.
Luna smiled and waved at the ponies before her, and descended down the steps like a graceful royal would do. Celestia scowled at the ponies and rushed down the steps. "Do you still love me?" Celestia demanded to the ponies. "Why don't you bask in my glorious light? Her night only causes nightmares-"
The ponies gasped, and stepped back. The Cutie Mark Crusaders and their friends looked to Luna instead of Celestia, for they were fond of the night princess. Celestia stomped through the crowd, and spoke only of herself and the kingdom. "Bow before me, as you would to a glorious queen and goddess! Don't bow to Luna," She continued.
The ponies only cowered as Celestia continued to speak. Celestia slammed her hoof onto the floor when she saw Fluttershy acting scared, and snorted. "Very well, then! I won't even bother enjoying the night," She finished.
Luna met up with Link in the center of the ballroom, and blushed softly. "I read the letter that you sent me," She started.
"What do you think of the letter?" Link asked in reply.
"It was very lovely of you to say such things about me."
Link blushed shyly as he turned his head away. "Princess Luna..." He started.
"There's no need to be formal right now, as we were having a conversation. Let's go out into the courtyard," Luna replied.
The stars twinkled in the inky black sky as the two strode into the courtyard and sat on the soft grass. Luna's wing covered Link's back preotectively, as if to shield him against the coldness of the night. She sighed, feeling content as she stargazed with Link. "I always have this feeling whenever we're alone with each other... That pleasant warmth, something you'd sense when you're with someone that you care about," Luna started.
"Same with me, beautiful..." Link replied.
Luna chortled for a few seconds, and thought about the things they could do together in the future. The could go out to restaurants, go to festivals in Ponyville or Canterlot, and even spend time alone in bed if they felt like being intimate with each other. "Hero of Hyrule..." Luna said. "If you're the hero from a different land, then maybe you could be a hero of Equestria, too."
"If you were to get captured, then I'll rescue you from the villain." Link smirked at Luna, and Luna only smiled in response.
"I'm not the typical damsel-in-distress, but sometimes if I get afraid, then I would get captured in less than a minute. Most of the time, I try to fight back."
"And if that would endanger the kingdom?"
"What do you mean?" Luna lifted her brow in puzzlement.
"I'm talking about being a wise ruler like Princess Zelda. Do you ever let Twilight and her friends stop the villain, so that the land won't get destroyed?" Link replied.
"Oh. I used to be Nightmare Moon, so the land got endangered two times. Then Twilight and her friends-"
"You already told me that."
"I wasn't that much of a warrior princess anymore, because Twilight took up some of the duties. Not that I'm planning to become a full-time damsel-in-distress, so..."
"Oh, so Twilight would fight back. Did your sister still fight back?"
"She tried to, but got defeated by Chrysalis at Cadence's wedding one time."
"She's probably still very protective. I'm sure she tries to protect you, too."
"Celestia wasn't as nice anymore. All she did was get her subjects to serve her and worship her day, else she would cast an eternal day everywhere. I tried to make her calm down, but she won't stop in her blind rampage to get all of the glory back!"
"Sorry..."
"That's okay. You don't need to apologize."
Link felt a warmth rushing through his body as he stared into Luna's compassionate and benign eyes. "Luna, you're just so lovely," He complimented.
Luna only blushed as the land cooled down for a few minutes. Autumn was just around the corner, with the leaves prepared to change colors and fall from the trees to prepare for the cruel winter. "Do you want to go inside? It's getting chilly out," Luna suggested.
"Yes," Link replied.
They strolled back to the ballroom, and a huge fire filled the ballroom. "THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS IF THOU UNGRATEFUL PEONS DARE SHUN OUR SUNLIGHT! BECAUSE THOU WOULD RATHER BASK IN LUNA'S 'GLORIOUS' NIGHT, WE ART MAKING PLANS TO MAKE THE SUN STAY FOREVER!" Celestia hollered with pure fury.
"Stop this right now!" Luna shouted. "My little ponies, escape the castle! Get to safety while I deal with my sister!"
The citizens did as Luna instructed and ran outside into the darkness. "THOU CAN'T TAKE AWAY OUR SUBJECTS, SISTER! THEY ART ALL OURS, NEVER THINE'S! THEY WERE AWAY FROM THY GRASP EVER SINCE THOU GOT BLASTED TO THY MOON! WE REGRET WELCOMING THOU BACK TO THE THRONE!" Celestia bellowed at Luna.
"Please... Sharing is caring. A true ruler lets her subjects do whatever they want. Her subjects don't need to worship her, unless she is a deity. We're both not deities, and you should remember that. What you're doing is immoral, wicked, and selfish... Stop this right now." Luna lifted her brow, hoping that her sister would change her mind. After all, Celestia ruined the gala by harassing the guests with blind hate and resentment.
"No..." Celestia whispered. Her voice changed as she chuckled darkly. "Muahahahaha..." Her eyes changed, and revealed a malevolent side to her personality and her soul.
Luna gasped in shock and fear. This was what could have happened in one of her daily nightmares! "You think you know true power? You're wrong! I am more powerful and nopony shall stop me in my quest for power!" Celestia concluded. "What is it like to be the younger sister of somepony that you don't want to betray for the second time, huh? Especially on this fateful night..."
Celestia levitated a spear close to Luna's neck, and the spear pricked Luna lightly. Luna backed up, and frowned deeply. Her eyes saddened, making her seem like a hurt little puppy that got kicked by a cruel owner. "Stop this right now. Where did you take Twilight and her friends? What did you do to my student?" Luna interrogated.
"You'll never see them again once you're taken care of," Celestia retorted.
"What?"
Celestia flashed her wings, and stood tall. In Luna's perspective, Celestia seemed powerful, wicked, and intimidating... Especially with the darkly smug expression evident on her pale features. "The sun rises," She said at last.
"Don't make it last forever," Luna warned. "Or, you'll have to pay the price for your crimes!"
"Did you do anything to Zelda?" Link demanded Celestia. "I've seen villains kidnap her. Did you do the same to her?"
"Hmm, interesting question, greenie... Just look for her outside. She tried to lecture me and tried to kill me," Celestia admitted bitterly.
"Good."
Celestia took a deep breath as the flames ceased, revealing the six prisons holding Twilight and her friends. "Now the hour's come at last, the soft and rising light, has crossed the East horizon, and has brought morning light. And, what a lovely day it is to walk a sunlit field, to see the bright colors that are my sun rays now revealed," She started.
The first lights of early predawn appeared in the sky, potentially interrupting the sleep of the uninvited ponies. "That was quick," Link said. "Why is the night so short?"
"So why is it that now when all is awake and at play, when all the world's excited and ready for the day, the ponies of Equestria should hide their shining eyes... to reject the sun and wait instead for Luna's moonrise..." Celestia sang as she flew into the air. She glared angrily at Twilight and her friends as she continued singing.
"Am I so wrong to wish that they would see things like I do? And am I so wrong to think that they might see me too? Why shouldn't they look upon me, is it not within my right? I don't overshadow, mine is not that bright a light! I've waited long enough now, for them all to look around, and though the moon may plead and threaten, the sun will stand her ground! And all will know the wonder of my bright and blinding light, when all the world is wrapped in a hell-like fire sky! So say goodbye to this, the final rising of the moon! Today's night's in daylight, the dawn will be here soon!" Celestia finished as she completed her transformation into Solar Flare.
Author's note: Looks like Celestia/Solar Flare had completed her dark transformation. And she is holding the mane six hostage... There might be more than just 12-13 episodes, because I've changed my mind to make this seem more exciting and intense. What do you think has happened to Midnight Glitter and Princess Zelda? Any reviews and comments are welcome, and thanks for the reviews.
11. Solar Flare's Wrath
Luna was shocked, seeing that her sister became an evil villainess. Solar Flare cackled loudly as the sun quickly rose into the brightening sky. The sun was very huge, and that was what they called a "supernova" sun. Perhaps the better name for the villainess would be Supernova Sun, since that kind of sun was sometimes seen as a foreboding omen in mythology and olden times. Not only are lunar eclipses in mythology and ancient times were foreboding, but sometimes there would be daylight horror, and not just nighttime terrors...
The ballroom was lighted up by the shining sun as Solar Flare turned her attention to Twilight. "Fool, you won't give in! Your foolish friends won't, either! That's why you're my prisoners! You shall be sealed in the strongest prisons in the land! From this day forth..." Solar Flare turned her attention to the growing crowd and guards before her. "The day will last forever!" She disappeared as the flames swirled around her, leaving the room in thick stifling smoke.
A cerulean light shone through the smoke like a beacon as Zelda came into view. She coughed loudly as she created a protective barrier around Link and Luna. She was also inside the barrier, so that she won't have to breathe in any more smoke. The smoke cleared up, and Twilight and her friends were gone! Just as the three heroes exited the castle, Solar Flare appeared and blocked their path. "I forgot something," She said.
"What do you want? What do you want to do with my friends?" Luna demanded. "Lower the sun, for goodness sake!"
"Never, Luna! Your loyalty to me, especially in my evil form, is unstoppable. Admit that you want to join me-"
"Never!"
"Don't make me hold you hostage!" Solar Flare lost her temper as her mane flickered around her hardened face.
"You will not hold me hostage! At least tell me where my student is!"
"No!" Solar Flare bellowed.
"Stop being so stubborn! Celestia..." Luna frowned for the second time.
"I'm not Celestia." Solar Flare did flinch at the name that Luna called her. "I'm Solar Flare..." Solar Flare stood tall, and Luna thought that this villainess could be taller than Nightmare Moon. She didn't want to show any fear, as Solar Flare would taunt her and pressure her even more.
Solar Flare snorted as she smirked at the smaller alicorn. "Coward... Remember, from this day forth, there will be no more night!" She told the night princess.
"I'm not scared," Luna spoke, intending to sound strong and serious, but her voice sounded soft and frightened instead.
"You're lying."
"No! I'm sure you came back to bully me and my friends!"
"Hahahaha! You're such a fool..." Solar Flare's laugh was cruel and wicked as her eyes narrowed even more.
"I'm not," Luna said. "Where did you take Twilight and the others? What other heinous actions would you do to the land?"
"You're not a cop. Why would you need to ask me, anyways? Just get lost in the land, you three! Hope you all die in the desert!"
Luna stood her ground as the barrier disappeared. The Elements of Harmony appeared above her, and Solar Flare simply chuckled. "You can't banish me to the sun," Solar Flare said. "It's impossible! You're disconnected from the Elements, remember?" She took the Elements with her magic, slammed them to the ground, and stomped her hooves on each gem with so much brawn strength.
The gems cracked into a million pieces, and Luna stood in shock. "No..." She breathed out.
"I still have power to banish you to the moon," Solar Flare concluded. "The moon shall never rise again!"
"It's no longer possible for my second banishment to happen," Luna admitted. "You won't banish me, because I'm not evil anymore. I'm good, unlike you!"
"Screw you! I'm the true queen of Equestria! Guards, imprison her and throw her into the dungeon."
The guards didn't listen, and tried to fight Solar Flare. Solar Flare groaned in frustration as she made the chains appear. She magically placed them onto Luna's legs, and chuckled evilly. "Why are you doing this to me?" Luna asked. "Don't do this when I did nothing wrong. I haven't done any more bad things ever since my redemption by the Elements of Harmony. This is just immoral..."
Solar Flare flinched visibly at the last word that Luna said as she summoned a spear. She swung the spear at Luna's head, and she fell unconscious because of the powerful impact. "Hmm... They may speak of power struggles, but they never see anything like this," She commented as she levitated Luna into the air.
"What are you doing to her?" Link demanded.
"She was going to help us," Zelda added in. "I could sense it, but now you made her useless."
"Useless?" Solar Flare remarked. "Oh. You're kidding, you're kidding, right?"
"I'm not even kidding!"
"But, she won't even fight me. She's too scared. Now she is my hostage and victim. I kidnapped her for a reason, fools..."
"Release her," Link ordered.
"No," Solar Flare refused.
"Luna doesn't deserve this," Zelda objected.
"Do you think you can forgive her even though she once became Nightmare Moon? You won't, apparently," Solar Flare sneered.
"We can forgive her. She's not evil," Link retorted.
"You waste too much of my time, fools. Now I must accomplish my goals! So long, cowards!" Solar Flare laughed evilly as she disappeared, along with the unconscious alicorn.
Zelda and Link ran to the train, and as they boarded the train, they felt the ground quaking beneath them. A bestial roar sounded through the skies as the land heated up to a boiling point. Canterlot Castle was partly destroyed by the solar alicorn's wrathfulness and violent power. To the citizens of Equestria, it was if a bombing happened during the gala and somehow caused their dear Princess Luna to disappear from sight.
A draconequus was sitting on one of the seats on the train. He was causing a bit of chaos, and the ponies were annoyed by him. "Discord, please," A passenger complained.
"Is he a threat?" Zelda asked loudly.
"He wasn't too bad, but can get quite annoying," A feminine voice said.
"Apparently we were late for the gala, because Celestia rose the sun too early," A masculine voice said.
"That doesn't make sense. What is this chatter about now?" Link asked in confusion.
"Oh, what fun is there in making sense?" Discord started.
"It's not boring to make sense," Zelda muttered with annoyance. "Tell us what's going on."
"Didn't you see that happen? I wasn't at the gala. The event was on the news," Discord challenged.
"Oh, Celestia went rogue and became Solar Flare. Then, she made Twilight and her friends disappear-" Zelda started.
"Something tells me that we could find them somewhere in each region of Equestria. Let's start with the Everfree, where Fluttershy could be," Discord interrupted as he snapped his fingers. Now, the three were in the forest, surrounded by eerie noises and shadows from the brightly shining sun.
"Okay, one minute we were on a train, next minute we were in the forest. How crazy," Link commented.
"If you want to save Luna, Twilight, and their beloved friends, then you must let me help you," Discord replied.
"By being chaotic and annoying? Not helping," Zelda said with a smug tone of voice as she smirked.
"Maybe he's right-" Link started.
"He's not. Let's ditch him-"
"Zelda! Are you gonna disagree with me-"
"Why isn't nobody letting me doing things my own way?" Zelda lost her temper.
"Calm down-" Link said.
"Shush!" Zelda placed a hoof to her mouth, and glared at him.
"Okay..."
"Silence!" Zelda leaped at Link and pinned him to the ground.
"No fighting," Discord interjected.
"Okay, fine," Zelda and Link said in unison.
Discord led them deeper into the forest, and they came towards an entrance to a cavern. The cavern seemed foreboding and eerie, as it was very dark in there with no light in it. The cave seemed like a huge mouth waiting to consume the group. "We're going in there? We couldn't even see in the dark," Link said.
"Oh, we're forgetting something," Discord replied. He snapped his fingers and summoned a torch. They went into the cave, and the light behind them soon became smaller with each step deeper into the darkness.
Link shivered as the coldness of the cave set in. Zelda looked around for any hints of danger, and smelled something icky. "Ugh! What is that stench?" She complained.
"I don't know," Link admitted.
"Could be a skunk," Discord said.
"Do you want to know what's so bad about skunks? They fart into your face and leave you with a stinky smell that won't be washed off so easily," Zelda remarked.
"Ew," Link agreed.
"Shh!" Zelda placed a hoof to her mouth as she heard a loud clash. A growl came along, and a pair of red eyes were staring at them from a distance. A few more pair of red eyes appeared, and tension ebbed around the group as the growl became very loud.
"They're probably wolves," Zelda said. "I expected to encounter something more thrilling."
"Thrilling, you say? Let's see about that," Discord replied as he snapped his fingers once again.
Here you go again, Zelda thought.
Meanwhile, Luna found herself in a damp and dark cell beneath the aged Castle of the Royal Sisters. She looked around, and gasped for a moment. "Didn't she banish me to the moon again?" She asked.
The flames flickered in front of the cell, and a malicious figure lighted up the dungeon. "Greetings, Luna…" Solar Flare crooned. "Hope you enjoy your new home."
"Solar Flare! How long do I have to put up with this?" Luna shouted.
"Forever."
"Let me out! Tell me a reason why you possessed my sister!"
"Oh, it's because she gave in."
"Are you kidding me?"
"Nope." When Solar Flare said 'nope,' the 'p' was very audible, and even Luna could hear it.
"Ugh! I'm not going to be your prisoner! At least tell me why you convinced Celestia to turn to the dark side! You're too selfish to release her… Too cowardly to tell me where my friends are, and too evil to even spare the Elements of Harmony, the useful artifacts that defeat any kind of villain!"
"Selfish? Cowardly? Evil? Is that how you view me?" Solar Flare's face contorted into a devious, malevolent smile as she chortled darkly.
"That's how a hero views a villain, anyways. You, like the forces of darkness, never knew of love, light, and friendship! You only knew hate, darkness, and enmity. You only knew wickedness and malevolence! That's why you twisted my sister's view on the world and herself!"
"How 'wise,' fool. You think you know everything, right? No! I know everything, because I AM THE ALL-KNOWING GODDESS OF THE SUN!"
Solar Flare's loud tone of voice shook the dungeon and the castle above the cell. "You'll never see your friends, subjects, or the night again!" She taunted.
Solar Flare disappeared into thin air, leaving Luna in the darkness once again. For some reason, she felt depowered and weakened. She attempted to cast a spell on the chains, and nothing happened. Did Solar Flare just steal all the magic and strength from her? Luna huffed with anger as she thought of the possibility. Her sister couldn't have betrayed her just to become Solar Flare, right? Maybe Solar Flare was right… Luna was betrayed by her own sister! "Tia!" She hollered. "You did this to me by becoming Solar Flare!"
Luna sobbed as she placed her head onto the cold stone floor. Her wings concealed her whole face as tears flowed freely from her saddened eyes. Soon, she found that her body changed, too. She wasn't a gorgeous shade of midnight blue anymore… Her coat was the color of lilac, and her mane was light blue. Her mane was no longer wavy and sparkling. Her mane was still as a statue as she shook with each sob.
Dust filled her lungs, and she coughed loudly. She looked up, and found that her dark self, Nightmare Moon, was standing close to her. "We meet again," Nightmare said.
"What?" Luna asked, confused. "I thought you were defeated.
"Alas, Luna, nightmares never die!"
"I can't team up with Solar Flare."
"Celestia betrayed you again, so let's team up and-"
"Go away!" Luna turned her head to the window and tried to ignore Nightmare.
"You fool… Solar Flare was my sister, so I must team up with her to help conquer the whole kingdom!" Nightmare retorted.
"Stop!"
Luna whirled around, and stared into Nightmare's eyes. "I said, go away!" She continued.
"Never," Nightmare objected.
"GO AWAY, FIEND!"
Luna leaped at Nightmare Moon, and allowed her horn to jab Nightmare's neck. Nightmare Moon disappeared into thin air, and Luna heaved with a sigh of relief.
12. Rescuing Fluttershy
Zelda, Link, and Discord entered a room full of torches on the wall, and sleeping on the ceiling was a huge tarantula with beady eyes. Hanging from the ceiling was a cage with Fluttershy inside of it, shaking in fear. "Fluttershy! I'll get you," Zelda offered.
"Hahaha! You thought it would be easy, right? My pet will take care of you," A voice started.
Solar Flare appeared in front of them, and turned her attention to the hairy beast. "Attack them," She commanded. "Don't let them get Fluttershy out of the cage!"
"Oooh, intense!" Discord commented as he snapped his fingers. Popcorn appeared in his hands, and a chair appeared behind him. "Oh, I forgot one more thing!" He snapped his fingers once again, and a pair of 3-d glasses appeared on his face. "Three, two, one..."
"Discord! Seriously?" Zelda asked.
"I think you have other work to do," Solar Flare taunted. "After defeating my pet, you'll have to go through a confusing maze and never find a way out! Muahahahaha!" She cackled as the flames swirled around her. The room became very bright for a moment as she disappeared with a flash.
"Wait!" Link shouted with impatience.
The tarantula landed onto the floor and crawled towards them. "I can feel the tension!" Discord confided.
"I had no weapons on hand- I mean, hoof! What am I to do?"
"I'll help you deal with this beast that Solar called a pet," Zelda replied.
"Uh-oh!" Discord said with a crazy smile as he continued to watch the scene unfold before him.
Zelda prepared to blast the tarantula with her magic as she stood tall. "Are you sure, Zelda? You'll get yourself- ow!" Link started as the tarantula's legs slammed on Link.
Zelda blasted the tarantula with her magic, and waited for a chance to land a powerful attack on the beast. The beast slammed its body on Link, and he passed out as a result. A bright light filled the room, and the tarantula backed up. Three figures were standing in front of Zelda and Link. "The three goddesses!" Zelda shouted in relief. "You're here. Is Link's destiny really to save Luna, or are we done with this world?"
"You're not done with this world. Your destiny is uncertain, Princess Zelda," Nayru said. "Don't mind the draconequus. He's not always helpful, but you can tolerate him later, right?"
"U-uncertain?" Zelda asked, puzzled.
"Yes. You and Link are destined to help Twilight and her friends to stop Solar Flare from potentially destroy the kingdom of Equestria. You two can stay as heroes, or leave. The choice is yours once the journey's done," Farore said.
"Yes. Think of yourselves as the chosen heroes of Equestria," Din added in.
"Aren't Twilight and her friends chosen to save Equestria?" Zelda asked.
"Yes, but they need your help, even though they're the heroes. And if you're worried about Link, he is okay. We will give you the valuable neccessities to help you in your journey to save Equestria from the clutches of the vengeful Solar Flare," Nayru replied.
"I expected to see something intense. What is this all about?" Discord interrupted.
"Silence," Din commanded.
"Sorry..."
"Can you wake Link up?" Zelda asked the goddesses.
"We can, but you can't depend on us for everything," Nayru replied.
"We're going to the heavens right now. Also, one more note... Our magic has spawned the secret fairy fountains in this land. If you need more magic power or just need healing, go to one of them," Farore added in.
"Thanks," Zelda said as the goddesses disappeared. The room became slightly dark again as Link struggled to get up.
She found that there was a bag filled with useful items on the floor. She took the bag, and faced the beast once again. She gave some of the items to Link, and levitated a bow out of the bag. She pointed the bow at the beast, and prepared to shoot one of the tarantula's eyes. The tarantula prepared to attack her, but the arrow flew into the middle eye. The tarantula collasped, and Link used a sword to slash off the tarantula's legs.
"Even more intense! Don't forget, there is a maze," Discord commented.
"Din told you to shut up! So, shut up!" Zelda shouted.
"Fine."
"Good."
The tarantula limped towards Zelda once again, and Zelda shot another arrow at the tarantula. The tarantula collasped once again, giving Link another chance to slash off the rest of the legs. After he was done, he flew into the air, pointed his sword towards the tarantula's back, and landed onto its back. His sword pressed through the tarantula's back, and the beast died. Link leaped to the floor, with his sword in his bag this time.
The cage that was hanging from the ceiling fell to the floor, and Fluttershy leaped out. "Thanks. Let's find my other friends," She said.
"Are you okay?" Zelda asked. "Any bruises, scratches, anything?"
"I'm okay, except for some of the scratches on my hooves from falling to the floor."
"They didn't look very bad. Let's get out of-"
"She said there was a maze."
"Oh, okay."
A secret door opened on the left wall, and the group walked through the door into the darkening hallway. As they entered the hallway, the secret door slammed behind them, causing Fluttershy to flinch and shriek. "Calm down. We'll keep you safe," Zelda reassured her.
"Thank you," Fluttershy replied. "I'm worried for my friends, and..."
"I'm worried for Luna," Link replied. "I feel like I must slay Solar Flare to rescue Luna, as a knight would do to a dragon to save the princess."
"Solar Flare has a draconic personality, it seems," Discord said. "I wouldn't be surprised if she actually transformed into a dragon."
"Maybe she would," Zelda said. "Sometimes a villain becomes a huge beast to stop the hero in his or her tracks."
"Right, as Ganondorf would transform into the beast called Ganon," Link replied.
"I realized something. Ganondorf's name, when shortened to 'Ganon,' sounds a bit like the word 'dragon.' So, he would be something of a dragon," Discord said.
"Possibly," Link said.
"So, that means, in this case, Solar Flare would be the dragon and Luna would be the damsel-in-distress waiting to be saved by the hero," Zelda replied.
"I don't think she's that wimpy or anything. She's quite tough, despite having to be saved sometimes," Fluttershy disagreed. "Do you really think she is like that typical princess from the classic filly tales? Especially Snow White?"
"Okay, what is that you're saying about the classical princesses in most tales? Are they weak in comparison to the night princess?"
"The princesses were quite gentle, but they're helpless whenever they get kidnapped by the villain. Luna, in contrast..."
"She's not some swashbuckling warrior princess anymore, like she was in medieval times before the banishment of Nightmare Moon. She was helpless when she used to be Nightmare Moon. She didn't fight back against the darkness inside of her heart that was already cleansed from her soul. So, I didn't lie to her or anything. I would just... I would just act mean to her back then before I got turned to stone for the first time. Another way in which she could have been helpless is when the plunderseeds took her by surprise, and trapped her," Discord interjected.
"She's not that weak, still. She's a strong mare like her sister," Fluttershy objected.
"Alas, she is not as strong, as she allowed depression to take over back then."
"Are you not listening? Luna is stronger than before! She's not a coward! Why do you doubt her so much?" Link shouted at Discord.
"How can you defend someone you've just met?" Discord remarked.
"Do you think princesses are really that weak-minded?" Zelda asked.
"No. Celestia was strong-willed. Luna became evil once because she was weak-willed."
"Oh, please. Celestia became Solar Flare... Is that really what you call strong-willed? Luna was more strong-willed right now because the darkness was cleansed from her heart by the Elements of Harmony," Fluttershy told Discord.
"Alright, alright. Let's see which door is which," Discord said.
"This is going to be really confusing," Link commented.
"Oh, I like confusion. It's fun."
"What's the fun in that?" Zelda asked as she opened the first door with her magic. Bats poured into the room, and tried to attack the group.
"What now?" Zelda finished.
13. Rescuing Rainbow Dash
Meanwhile, Solar Flare gazed into a crystal ball and watched the scene of the group getting attacked by bats as she smiled with pleasure. "I know the maze would stop them in their tracks," She remarked to herself. "I win, I win! Muahahahaha- Wha?" Her mouth gaped open as she saw the group fighting back against the malevolent bats. Right now, Luna was in the throne room with Solar Flare because Solar Flare enjoyed watching her suffer from imprisonment.
"What the hell?" Solar Flare continued.
"I can't stand the language," Luna shouted. "It hurts my ears!"
"Your shouting hurts my ears!" Solar Flare shot back. "Now, silence! I don't want them to figure out where you were held!"
"Oh, please... I'm sure they'll eventually find me-"
"Not now! They have to find the others. They didn't realize how far away they are from their wimpy friends! They have to endure the cruel heat of the blazing sun!"
"Have you no idea what the eternal day could do to the world? There would be droughts, increased chances of heatstrokes, increased chances of sunburns, and more wildfires."
"Hmm... I never thought of that. I'll make the day even hotter! And there will be more wildfires... Especially in the Everfree, where the group is!" Solar Flare arched her brows, and chuckled evilly.
"No!" Luna's firm voice echoed throughout the ruins as Solar Flare quickly swung a club at Luna, causing her to pass out.
"Good. I love a silent listener, not a noisy rebel." Solar Flare then ordered her guards to infiltrate the Everfree Forest to ambush the group. She placed her hoof to her mouth as she allowed her magic to pulse into the crystal ball. "Shh... A wildfire shall appear out of nowhere," She muttered as she slowly sipped her soda like wine. "I shall create a barrier between the castle and the forest."
And so, she created a huge wall of fire around her castle so that nopony could gain entry to the ruins. Only her guards could gain entry, since they followed every order that she tossed at them from time to time.
As the group escaped the maze, they found a pink gem laying in the grass. Fluttershy gasped, and ran to retrieve it. "The Element of Kindness," She exclaimed.
"That's nice. Now, let's go before any monsters-" Zelda started as the fires emerged from nowhere.
The armored ponies surrounded them and prepared to attack them. Discord used his Chaos magic to levitate the ponies into the air. The flames ceased because the fire was in the presence of Chaos magic. The ponies screamed and shouted as their legs flung around. They dropped their weapons and their helmets slid off.
Discord levitated the ponies to the left, and forced them into the undying embers of the wildfire. The ponies screamed in pain as the flames consumed them. Discord then flung the ponies to the right with full force, and allowed the rest to die in the flames. He then froze the flames, and the flames became foreboding pillars of ice. He was now finished, and said 'success' as he lead the group out of the forest.
"What's next, freezing the lava?" Link asked with curiosity.
"Possibly," Discord replied.
"Was that inspired by a scene in the movie that you once watched?" Fluttershy asked.
"Possibly," Discord said.
"Who will we save next?" Zelda asked.
"Either Apple Jack or Rainbow Dash."
"Wouldn't Rainbow be in Cloudsdale?" Fluttershy asked.
"Yes," Discord responded.
Meanwhile, Solar Flare finished her lunch and stared into the crystal ball once more. Luna woke up after a few minutes, and felt a huge pain near her horn. She placed her hoof onto her head, and groaned with pain. "Celestia wouldn't do this," She said. "This is abuse! Why must you have to abuse me so?"
"Because you're my prisoner," Solar Flare replied. "I told you to keep silent! Or else, you'll fall into a sleep-like death like that princess from a filly tale!"
"You can't do that to me."
"Yes, I can! Or, I'll chop off your head."
"You seem to get the best treatment. Why did I get the worst of it? I only got served a half-full glass of water and a piece of disgusting bread!"
"That's how it was in medieval times. I wish I could go back to that period."
"You'd rather rob the rights of mares and fillies everywhere? And rob the right to have freedom? And what's next, racial discrimination and disability discrimination?"
"You humor me sometimes, fool. Only I get to be a ruler!"
"You know what? You're the cruelest tyrant ever! You're possibly as cruel as Tirek! I want Celestia back! What happened to the sweet sister that loved me?" Luna could barely hold back her tears and frustration. She thought it right to be angry at Solar Flare, though.
"I'm not your sister anymore! You want to be punished?" Solar Flare retorted as she stood tall and approached Luna. She flashed her wings, and stared down the almost limp alicorn.
Luna felt intimidated for a moment, but chose to hide her fear so that she could seem more courageous than the cruel oppressor. Her ears moved back, and she clenched her jaw to seem tough and queen-like. She narrowed her eyes as she huffed. "You're not going to rebel, are you?" Solar Flare taunted.
"I will, for the sake of the citizens of Equestria and for the sake of my dear friends! I won't let you touch the citizens of Equestria in such a cruel way," Luna asserted.
Solar Flare's mane flickered around her face as the flames appeared around her. The flames seemed to light up parts of her face, giving her an ominous and malevolent look. "Very well, then," She said darkly. "Looks like I'm going to make you suffer like this... If you close your eyes and let me do this, then you won't feel pain. You won't escape, either!"
"No! I'm not letting you depower me!" Luna stood up with full strength, and stared into the evil alicorn's eyes.
Solar Flare blasted her with a sleeping spell, causing Luna to fall into a deep sleep as she collasped to the floor. "Hmm," Solar Flare said deviously as she levitated a knife and brushed it gently across Luna's back. "She won't fly out once I take away her wings."
Solar Flare jabbed the blade into the area between Luna's wings and her back. Blood poured out freely as Solar Flare sliced off the left wing. "One more to go," Solar Flare muttered.
Don't do this to my sister! A voice screamed in her head.
"You can't stop me," Solar Flare retorted.
If we were to separate, then I will get you! Like, really! I swear that you're worse than Nightmare Moon, the mare that took my sister.
"Huh. What a fool..." Solar Flare sliced off Luna's right wing, and she levitated the pair of wings into the air. She placed them into a glass container next to the golden throne. She quickly wrapped the bandages around Luna's back, and chuckled evilly. "Just as I planned..."
Are you insane? You'll break her love for me for real! And you'll make her thirsty for revenge! You know how she can be... The voice finished.
"I can handle her, coward," Solar Flare remarked.
Oh, please. I'm not a coward, but you are! You're too afraid to act kind to Luna, and you're too selfish to release me from your grasp! You're also too evil to spare the powerful Elements of Harmony! You need some time on the sun, as Nightmare Moon once did on the moon!
Solar Flare snorted loudly as she sat upon her throne.
Zelda, Link, Fluttershy, and Discord reached Cloudsdale, and they were surprised that the skyward city was almost abandoned... Or so it seemed. In the distance, they heard the ambulance sirens. Fluttershy wondered who got hurt or worse. "This villainess is setting off a genocide. Is she happy now?" Zelda asked.
"Sadly, yes," Link replied.
"That villain life would be lonely," Discord admitted.
"Although, she gets to talk to her guards," Fluttershy said.
"We can't trust the sun! Get inside for the best air conditioning!" A mare shouted in the distance.
"I'm worried about my animals," Fluttershy confided.
"I'm sure they'll manage," Zelda said. "For now, we should worry more about rescuing others from their prisons."
"Hey! This cloud cavern seemed interesting. Let's see what's in there," Discord suggested.
"What does that have to do with rescuing others?" Link inquired.
"Come with me!"
They all crowded into the cloudy cavern, and saw that the interior looked like dark rainclouds. "Not as dark, eh? I can see beams of light peeking through," Discord commented.
"I wonder what a cloudy cave-in would be like," Zelda replied.
"Maybe this?" Discord snapped his fingers, and the clouds gathered behind them.
"You'd fall through anyways," Fluttershy said as she placed her hoof onto the clouds. She found that the clouds were ironically harder than the clouds in the cloudy cavern. "Discord! Is this for humor?"
"Yes."
"Oh, how ironic."
"What's more ironic is that you're so willing to rescue Luna," Zelda told Link. "Am I not important anymore?"
"You're still important, but I'd do anything to make sure she was okay," Link replied.
"Do you really think princesses are that fragile?"
Suddenly, Zelda placed her hoof onto a switch, and the trapdoor opened below the group. "Oh, come on!" Link complained. "You lied about your wisdom, right?"
"Nope," Zelda objected.
A familiar pegasus in the corner seemed surprised, yet determined. "I don't understand why I can't fight Solar Flare alone," Rainbow Dash muttered. "Do we have to slam the Elements on her as we did Nightmare Moon, because I prefer hoof-to-hoof combat! I want action, okay?"
"Rainbow Dash, didn't you remember what Twilight once told us?" Fluttershy asked.
"Don't bring up that princessy egghead."
"That's not very nice," Zelda said. "There's nothing wrong with being royal and being intelligent."
"Royalty gets kidnapped sometimes."
"It didn't happen to me today, at least."
"You're just so ungrateful," Link commented.
"Politeness is overrated," Rainbow Dash said.
The group escaped the cloudy cavern, and flew to Ponyville to continue their adventure. "Here, I found this while we escaped that place," Discord told Rainbow Dash.
"It's just a clou- what? How'd you find the Element of Loyalty?" Rainbow Dash responded.
"Chaotic coincidence."
"I'll take it."
The group rushed to the train station. "I'm guessing we have to run all over Equestria to find Rarity and Apple Jack right now. We got Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy, and wait-" Link said.
They all rushed away from the train station, and soon reached Sugarcube Corner. The building was boarded up, and the group wondered why.
14. Curses and Rescues
After what it seemed to be more than a half hour, Luna wakened, and felt a searing pain that pulsed throughout her slender, yet delicate back. She looked at her back, and started to wail in anguish. She didn't know why her wings were gone, but was quite certain that the culprit was the malevolent and wicked Solar Flare, the mare that crowned herself Queen of Equestria. "Why must you do this to me?" Luna asked. "Where are my wings?"
"You don't need to know," Solar Flare retorted.
"You are not the rightful ruler of Equestria! Whatever you did was cruel and immoral! How dare you, Solar Flare? How dare you? You're much more evil than Nightmare Moon! I don't care if you corrupted Celestia! You really did twist her so that she could do this to me - um, wait! I don't think she would, right?"
"She doesn't care about you anymore. She hates you."
Luna's heart broke because of what Solar Flare just told her. "You're not saying..." She said.
"Ahahahaha! You're better off as a powerless unicorn anyways!"
Luna cringed at Solar Flare's spiteful taunt as she continued to hurt from the betrayal and the loss of her powerful wings. "No..." She whispered. "Celestia couldn't have done this, right?"
"She could have. We're one and the same," Solar Flare bellowed overconfidently. "She's better off as the evil sun."
Solar Flare used her magic to transform into Celestia, and smirked at Luna as she caressed the lunar alicorn's chin. "Oh, if there was only someone out there that loved you..." Solar Flare admitted while she tried to sound like a benevolent sister.
"Celestia! How could you do this? LEAVE US ALONE!" Luna shouted as more tears spilled from her cerulean eyes. She could literally feel the waterfall preparing to spill from her eyes. She felt so much pain, that she forgot to love her sister. Celestia had betrayed her!
Solar Flare morphed back to her usual self, and chuckled at Luna's pain. "I like it when you cry," She said.
"Stop!" Luna retorted. "Why can't you imprison yourself on the sun forever? Then I don't have to deal with a cruel monster like you!"
"Of course, I'm as heartless as the demonic centaur." Solar Flare arched her brow in a devious fashion. "I like when you feel angsty enough to shout at me. Do it some more!"
"I hate you! I hate you, I hate you! Celestia, why did I even love you?"
"Hahahahaha. No one loves you. Ask Nightmare Moon..."
"Ugh! Be silent!"
"You won't believe me..." Solar Flare clucked her tongue as she grinned evilly.
"There's others that love me," Luna replied.
"Like who? No one, right?"
"Oh, please! Equestria forgave me for Nightmare Moon. Twilight and her friends love me and they see me as a friend. Link and Zelda would want to be my friend because I'm kind, unlike you!" Luna stood up and attempted to lunge at Solar Flare, with her horn pointed at Solar Flare's chest.
However, Solar Flare evaded the attack, and challenged Luna to come at her. "You'll never stop me," Solar Flare taunted.
"Yes, I will!"
Oh, Luna! I'm terribly sorry for becoming Solar Flare! Please forgive me! I'll never betray you, but I deserve to be in the sun forever because of what I did to you, A voice echoed in Solar Flare's head.
"Stop," Solar Flare said to Celestia's voice. "You'll never gain forgiveness for what you just did to her."
No, Solar Flare. And Luna... I love you, please forgive me for my foolishness! Don't let this evil mare get to you... I really did deserve to be in the sun for what I did. I know you don't want to love me, and I'm okay with it because I'm such a monster... Celestia's voice continued.
"Were you talking to Celestia's voice again, because I'm so done with you! It doesn't matter whether you were Solar Flare or Celestia! This betrayal is the worst that I've ever experienced," Luna shot at Solar Flare. Her cheeks were soaked from her tears, and her eyes were all read from the crying.
"Hahahaha! Look at you now, fool..." Solar Flare taunted.
"Stop... Just stop..."
Solar Flare levitated a club, and proceeded to beat Luna hard on her legs and also her flank. "What is it like to be a powerless, wingless alicorn that was imprisoned by a rightful ruler? Huh?" She mocked evilly as she summoned the chains from nowhere. She wrapped the chains around her, and threw her at the left wall. "That's what it feels, right? To be in complete suffering and not able to stand up to the stronger evils?"
Luna groaned in pain as she landed onto the floor. Her heart raged against her chest, and her legs felt weak. "The throne is still mine," Solar Flare admitted. "It'll never be yours!" She chortled maliciously as she slammed the club on her chest. The powerful blow sent Luna into a seemingly endless bloodcurdling scream as more tears spilled from her eyes.
"It's fun when I make you suffer," Solar Flare continued. "You'll never win!"
Luna felt more fragile with each passing second as she struggled to get up. She locked eyes with the evil alicorn, and huffed heavily. "No... No... You have not completely weakened me yet," She said.
"Yes, I have!"
"No matter how you treat me, I'm still stronger than you! I would not back up any time soon, and I'm never going to have to sit on the sidelines! You're too weak and selfish to at least spare any of us... Too cowardly to stop tempting my sister... Too hateful to love someone..."
Solar Flare's magic became stronger as the flames surrounded the nocturnal alicorn. Luna only screamed in pain as the flames closed in. "You'll never be released anyways," Solar Flare taunted.
The flames disappeared after entering Luna's body. "By the time they enter the castle, you will enter a death-like sleep and never wake from it!" Solar Flare continued. "No power on Earth can change it! Only a true love's kiss will revoke the curse."
How could you, Solar Flare? You placed a curse on her! You're more heartless than any other monster. You're just like Tirek, for you have abused my sister. Why would you need to kill her if she deserved the throne? And why would you take away her power if she needed it to protect Equestria? You're just so evil that I can't take it anymore, Celestia's voice rang through Solar Flare's head.
"Oh..." Luna groaned in pain because the flames burned a portion of her heart. The pain coursed throughout her whole body, and felt so much heat getting worse with each second. She was in so much pain that she could barely move. She collapsed to the floor, and Solar Flare only looked on with amusement.
Solar Flare placed a hoof to her mouth, and chuckled softly. She sat upon her throne, and looked on from there. "Let's see what they're doing," She muttered as she activated her crystal ball. "They succeeded in rescuing Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy? And now they've infiltrated Sugarcube Corner. What's next, Sweet Apple Acres and Carousel Boutique?"
"Solar Flare! You're not so intelligent. Are you also going to reveal where Twilight is being held?" Luna asked.
"Whoops! I guess I shouldn't have allowed you to hear me. How about a spell that makes you go deaf?"
"No!"
"Accept everything that I give you."
"Never!"
"Say yes, or else!"
"Are you ever going to tell me where you imprisoned Twilight Sparkle? I hope that you didn't imprison her in an unreachable place."
"Too late. I have done so, already. Many monsters and beasts guard the entrance."
"Where?"
"I don't need to tell you!"
"Please tell me already! Twilight is Equestria's only hope in this darkest hour!"
"Darkest hour?" Solar Flare snorted. "You mean brightest hour, right?" And therefore, she used her magic to make the sun shine so bright that it would blind anypony who would dare look into it.
"It's too bright! You're going to blind the citizens! That's evil," Luna complained.
"I like to hear you gripe about the sun. The day will last forever!"
"You already said that. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the same ring as Nightmare's last words about the night."
"The night shall never come! The night shall be forgotten!"
"Forgotten? Without the night, ponies won't be able to sleep, and they won't be able to stargaze. And they won't camp out under the stars because the sun could give them heatstrokes and severe sunburns."
"Is that why they shunned the sun?"
"Of course, in the case of you being the terrible tyrant!" Luna's voice rose, and she found the strength to stand up once again.
"Stay down, fool."
"I won't back down!"
"Oh, please. I've had enough of the 'filly power' references from the media."
"There is such thing as filly power and mare power!"
"Ha."
"Not funny."
"It's funny because you were suffering!"
"The strongest suffered the most..." Luna concluded as she locked eyes with Solar Flare. "The most courageous fought the most fears... The most kind of ponies suffered the most cruelty... Apparently none of that stuff happened to you! You were cowardly, cruel, and weak!"
"Here you go again," Solar Flare said. "Boring..."
"Trust me, it won't be as tedious if you would at least act kind."
"Your words mean nothing. You'll never inspire me."
"I can inspire others!"
The group entered a dark basement, with Pinkie Pie locked up in a cell. "Can't you light up the place? It's too dark and lonely in here," Pinkie begged.
"Okay," Discord replied as he lighted up the room with his Chaos magic.
"Solar Flare is such a meanie beanie! She won't even let me go."
"At least she's not here," Zelda assured her.
"If she was, she'd burn you to a crisp," Rainbow Dash added in.
"Not helping," Fluttershy scolded.
They searched for a key, and one of them saw a silvered glint. "You always have something in your mane, right?" Rainbow asked Pinkie.
"I don't know what you're talking about," Pinkie replied absent-mindedly.
"Shake your head and see what happens."
"Here it goes..." Pinkie shook her head back and forth as a key fell out of her mane. The key flew towards the door, and fell to the floor with a loud clank.
"Good! Three more mares, and we'll save Luna in no time!" Link commented as he picked up the key and unlocked the cell.
Pinkie quickly grabbed an aquamarine gem and placed it onto her neck. "The Element of Laughter is achieved," She said.
"I got Loyalty," Rainbow added in.
"And Kindness," Fluttershy whispered.
The group rushed out of Sugarcube Corner and proceeded to arrive at Sweet Apple Acres. However, the farm seemed abandoned, as the crops were almost done wilting, and the barn was boarded up. There was a sign to the left that said "Out of business," and another sign that said "Unavailable at the moment." Everyone in the group became worried.
"What happened with Apple Jack and her family?" Pinkie asked.
"Let's search the place for clues," Zelda said.
"Good idea," Rainbow, Fluttershy, and Pinkie agreed in unison.
"What fun is there in making sense?" Discord asked.
"Don't try to make the world chaotic unless you want another stony imprisonment," Rainbow warned.
"Okay." Discord made the grey clouds gather over the farm anyways, and the clouds started pouring rain into the drying soil.
The sun seemed to shine with such intensity that the heat seemed to fight against the moistness of rain. "Was Solar Flare at it again? Dammit," Rainbow Dash complained.
"Possibly," Fluttershy replied.
"She won't let us enjoy summer," Pinkie said. "Summer has already ended, but we haven't seen signs of fall!"
"Well, well..." A voice echoed from the sky. "Look who's losing!"
Solar Flare landed onto the barren ground in front of them. "Let me tell you something..." She started.
15. Twilight's Immorality and Betrayal
"Solar Flare! At least release my other friends! Also, you didn't even think about releasing Celestia from your clutches. You're so evil," Rainbow Dash interjected.
"Why should I care? I got bored without Twilight being in the throne room. I decided to turn her evil just for the fun of it. I manipulated her, if you want to know why," Solar Flare confided. "She will forever be evil!"
"Why didn't you tell us? You're the worst," Fluttershy asserted. "You're much worse than Nightmare Moon! Twilight doesn't deserve to be tricked into joining the dark side!"
"Ahahahaha, you cowardly fool..." Solar Flare taunted.
"Stop! Just no..." Rainbow Dash retorted. "I won't let you hurt Equestria any more! You can't hurt Luna any more, too-"
"I thought you never liked her," Pinkie interrupted.
"She's an okay princess."
"Oh! Then why did you prank her like that on Nightmare Night? Were you trying to be mean?"
"Okay, she used to be Nightmare Moon. I felt like..."
Solar Flare flashed out her wings with intensity in her expression, and scowled at the group. She stood tall as if to seem intimidating. "Muahahaha..." She chortled softly.
"You're so evil," Link commented. "You wouldn't even release Luna! She would help us and Twilight in stopping you and protecting Equestria!"
"Whatever. Luna's useless anyways right now, because I placed a curse on her. When you enter the Castle of the Royal Sisters, she shall enter a death-like sleep! Only a true love's kiss can break the spell!"
"Your banishment could also break the spell," Zelda told Solar Flare.
"Yeah," Rainbow Dash said. "Why does the princess need a stallion to smooch her so that he could save her?"
"Because Link and Luna apparently had a thing for each other," Solar Flare assumed.
Link's face went red with embarrassment as he replayed Solar Flare's words in his mind. "Are you serious? How do you know that she likes me? Wouldn't she date a prince?" He asked in fake denial.
"She loves you, even though you're not a prince," Solar Flare told him.
"I'm a peasant."
"She doesn't care who you are. Anyways, I must go. This has become an awkward situation..." Solar Flare arched her brows as she smirked evilly.
"Oh, please," Zelda said. "You made Link feel awkward because he had a thing for the princess of the night."
"What about it?" Solar Flare levitated into the air, her hooves slightly off the ground.
"Tough luck, fools. You won't survive the deadly heat so easily," Solar Flare concluded as she turned her attention to Link. She locked eye contact with him, and grinned evilly. "You won't see the princess or her night ever again! Muahahahaha! Too bad, too late! I changed my mind about the curse just now, and decided to complete Luna's doom."
"What? No," Link replied in denial.
"It is true. Look!" Solar Flare used her magic to let Link see what happened at the Castle of the Royal Sisters. The image showed Luna in a sleep which made her seem lifeless. She seemed to be in a lot of pain, for her still mane was dishevelled, and her coat was covered with dirt and blood. The most shocking thing about the image was that she had no wings!
Link couldn't keep it in anymore. He wanted to save Luna... His close friend, future soulmate, and lover... Now she's gone! And he's too late to rescue the beautiful princess that suffered so much during captivity. Tears stung his eyes as he tried to fight back the waterworks. Solar Flare only grinned widely as the magical image disappeared. "The curse has been fulfilled!" Solar Flare announced.
"You're a terrible liar, you know that? You're placing Equestria into eternal doom," Discord told Solar Flare. "You stole that beautiful alabaster alicorn that I used to love in my younger years. Although she wouldn't forgive me, I still love her... And you corrupted her!" He snapped his fingers as if to summon a sword.
Solar Flare chuckled evilly as she defended herself with her fiery magic. "You'll never save the ones that you care about. Remember, the day shall last forever! I have said this countless times," She finished as the fiery tendrils surrounded her. She cackled as she disappeared into thin air.
"Wait!" Link shouted tearfully.
"I remember when you used to have such feelings for Midna and Hilda. The result? You don't get to actually date them," Zelda reminded him.
"Stop. It's not helping," Fluttershy scolded. "That's a little mean."
"Okay, did anypony wonder why the ground started feeling wet? There wasn't any rain," Rainbow inquired.
"What is going on?" Pinkie asked.
"The world is probably going to be underwater," Fluttershy said.
"I'm not sure if that's possible," Zelda replied. "For now, let's stay calm and finish the quest. By the way, suppose the sun stays on one side of the Earth, and the moon on the other side, this side will be heated up and get more heatwaves. The other side will go into an ice age, with a prolonged winter."
The group proceeded to enter the barn, but as they entered the building, they saw a figure sitting in a corner. "Apple Jack, is that you?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Of course. I thought you'll never find me," Apple Jack replied as she approached them.
Meanwhile, Spike tried to escape the Castle of the Royal Sisters. However, his attempts were futile, as Solar Flare and the now evil Twilight stopped him in his tracks as he ran outside. "Well, well," Solar Flare started. "I guess you are trying to find the others, I presume? I am angered at not knowing where you will go."
"Solar Flare! You're the worst. You turned Twilight into an evil follower of yours, and you even placed Princess Luna into an eternal slumber," Spike retorted.
"Hmm, there is a reason behind that... That is because evil life becomes very boring sometimes. I decided that Twilight shall become my henchmare and help me to carry out my evil plans. And then I cursed that annoying alicorn of the night, because she was advocating for the night. She had no idea how beautiful my sunlight is!"
Solar Flare fumed as she finished her explanation. "She thinks that she's the fairest of all, huh? I proved her wrong by allowing the curse to fulfill itself," She screamed.
"You're as evil as Tirek, to be honest," Spike commented as he narrowed his eyes to seem courageous.
"Oh, why, thank you very much! That was a kind compliment," Solar Flare crooned with mock sincerity. "Well, everypony knows how evil I am. Thank you..."
"Stop mocking me!"
"That's not how you are supposed to respect our Queen!" Twilight shouted at Spike.
Spike gulped as he crouched in fear. Twilight leaned in, and huffed loudly. "Well... You are such a cowardly rebel," She continued.
"What happened to the Twilight that I know? You wouldn't do this... You would run out of the place with me in no time, not kiss up to the evil Solar Flare."
Just then, the solar guards brought in several fillies and colts. All of them were chained up, and they seemed frightened of what could happen to them. "Save us," Sweetie Belle cried out.
"Anypony please help us," A colt added in. "I wanna go home!"
"How could they kill Miss Cherilee?" Scootaloo asked.
"I know, right? It's just mean," Apple Bloom agreed.
"Aaaah! It's Solar Flare! Why can't Princess Luna save us from the evil empress?" An older filly screamed with terror.
"Relax, Twilight is here," An older colt replied.
"I'm not here to save you, but to execute you for shunning the sun and also our Queen Solar Flare! You won't revel in her majestic glory at all," Twilight objected as she approached them.
"Twilight, no!" Spike begged. "It would be immoral if you kill the innocents!"
"Get out, already!" Twilight lost her temper and pointed at the exit.
"Fine, but everypony will hate you if they ever learn of your heinous crimes against the innocent children of Equestria..."
"Twilight! You betrayed us," Pipsqueak cried out.
"So? What's the point in respecting the night anyways? The night is useless," Twilight spat with such hostility.
"Stop... Don't do it," Sweetie Belle said.
"It's too late. She became an evil villainess," Scootaloo objected.
"There's still-"
"Twilight would be cruel to you," Apple Bloom said. "I thought I liked her, but now I hate her with such a passion!"
Pipsqueak was the first to be hanged on the gallows in the courtyard. The other fillies and colts watched in horror and sadness as they witnessed the end of this sweet colt that declared Princess Luna to be his favorite princess. "I'll burn one of them on the stake," Solar Flare interjected as she took a random filly and tied her on the stake. The poor little unicorn froze in fear as Solar Flare chuckled at her misery.
"You will burn," Solar Flare said.
"I don't want to die! I wanna go home!" The unicorn screamed.
"Well, you'll go home in the afterlife... But expect eternal misery!"
Solar Flare torched the wood and gunpowder beneath the fearful little filly, and within a second, the flames swirled around the unicorn. The unicorn screamed in pain and agony as Solar Flare and Twilight watched on with amusement. "Princess Luna! Help me!" The unicorn screamed at last as her wailing faded to silence.
"Button Mash, you're next," Twilight told the colt that was obsessed with video games.
"No! I wanna go home. I can't leave Sweetie Belle here," Button retorted.
"Lose your head... Now! Onto the guillotine!"
Spike couldn't believe it. A mare that declared herself to be Luna's student appeared by his side, unchained but dishevelled. "Let's go," She said.
"Luna told me a bit about you. You're Midnight Glitter, right?" Spike replied. "Also, let's get outta here! I hate this place and the immoral stuff that Twilight did. Maybe she shouldn't have become a princess and maybe she shouldn't have bothered to be Celestia's student at all!"
Spike hopped onto Midnight's back, and Midnight ran out of the castle quickly. All of a sudden, Spike couldn't take it no more. He started sobbing into Midnight's tangled mane, and Midnight halted as they found Zelda and the others. "Twilight betrayed us all!" Spike admitted. His eyes were all red and watery from the crying.
"What did she do?" Apple Jack demanded. "And what happened to my sister?"
"Solar Flare... Twilight... They were killing the poor foals of Equestria! How could they? Twilight was really foolish for joining forces with the evil villainess!"
"Oh, no! Hope Apple Bloom's okay..."
"No, not Scootaloo! She's my close friend. Whatever Twilight is doing could be immoral, and she needs to stop before it's too late," Rainbow Dash exclaimed in shock.
"Oh, no! How depressing and evil," Pinkie agreed with a huge frown as her eyes widened with sadness.
"Twilight needs to get her mind straight," Discord confided. "I can't believe this! How wicked and cruel... What was she thinking?"
"I know, right? I don't want to be Twilight's assistant! I'm assisting Midnight Glitter from now on," Spike concluded.
"Thanks for the offer, but we have to find Rarity quick. We don't have much time," Midnight told him.
They all ran into Ponyville, and entered the Carousel Boutique.
Author's note: I finally got this up. I know you're going to hate Twilight for her heinous crimes, but this was meant as a plot twist. I wonder how Luna would react to such immorality. Read and review.
16. Rescues and Punishments
Rarity was chained to the wall when the group came in. She smiled as she saw her friends. "Now help me be free. They foalnapped my sister, and I need to save her," She said. "You can help me in the quest to save her."
"We're not only going to save her, but we're also going to stop Solar Flare," Apple Jack reminded her.
"I know you didn't want to hear this, but earlier, Twilight ordered for some foals to get executed. She thought that she would always follow Celestia by doing anything that Solar Flare requested of her. Twilight was doing an immoral act by helping Solar Flare to execute the innocents," Spike admitted.
Rarity became so shocked, that she placed a hoof to her forehead and collasped to the floor with a loud thump.
"Rarity, you're still the drama mama," Discord remarked. "Come on, we need to take action about the evilness of Solar Flare's rule."
"Okay," Rarity said. "I thought Twilight was a sweetie pie, but because of what you told me, I now hate her. She's so evil, and I hope that she didn't try to execute poor little Sweetie Belle!"
"Same with me when it comes to Apple Bloom," Apple Jack agreed.
"Let's go get the little ones, defeat Solar Flare, get Twilight's mind straight, and rescue Princess Luna," Rainbow Dash interjected.
"Onwards!" Link and Zelda shouted in unison as the group ran towards the Everfree Forest to find the Castle of the Royal Sisters.
The water continued to rise in height, causing the group to worry for the fate of Equestria and the rest of the world. Flames appeared in front of them as the sun shone even brighter. The group struggled against the blinding light and the flames. "Hurry! We got no time left!" Midnight Glitter screamed.
Because the water rose even more, the flames died out, and the group was able to access the Castle of the Royal Sisters. They could hear screaming and crying from the courtyard as they entered the castle. "Gotcha!" Solar Flare shouted as the guards surrounded the group. "You'll never save the ones you love most! Muahahahaha! Twilight, take care of them!"
The guards made way for Twilight as she approached the group. "It's boring being the goody-goody if my mentor was evil. Now I shall eliminate you all!" She said.
"Twilight, you wouldn't do this! Remember your friends?" Apple Jack retorted.
"No comment..." Fluttershy whispered meekly.
"Get this done with!" Solar Flare ordered angrily.
"Please don't do this," Rarity begged. "I knew you did something immoral, but before we hate you even more..."
"Apologize for your wrongs," Rainbow added in.
Twilight sighed for a moment as she looked to Solar Flare, and then to the group. Suddenly, Apple Jack and the others activated the Elements of Harmony. A rainbow appeared, and slammed onto Twilight. However, it didn't work, and Solar Flare watched on with amusement. "You're kidding! You're kidding, right?" Solar Flare taunted.
"No," Discord said.
"Shut up your trap and die!"
Twilight still felt conflicted, but was beginning to think about her immoral actions. Her facial expression softened as she glanced at the group. "I'll talk about this when I lost my mentor to the sun," She confessed.
"What?" Solar Flare shouted in shock as she approached the group, and allowed the flames to murder all of the guards. The guards screamed in pain as Solar Flare prepared to attack the group. "You are supposed to stay on my side, Sparkle... Now die!" She hollered as she blasted Twilight to the left with a fiery beam.
Solar Flare laughed even more as the group attempted to activate the Elements once more. "You'll never stop me," She confided. "I'm the most powerful being on Earth..." She looked down on the group as the flames flickered under her face. She seemed ominous and intimidating, which almost terrified the group.
"We will," Zelda started. "You'll never stop us. You are too foolish to even repent for your actions. You are too cruel to spare the foals... You are too selfish to let Luna live... And you are too evil to let Equestria free of your tyranny!"
Suddenly, magic swirled around her as the six magical beams combined into a rainbow. The rainbow rushed towards Solar Flare, but Solar Flare shot a fiery beam at them. The beams pushed back and forth for countless hours as Zelda and the others tried harder to defeat the empress of evil. Twilight watched on as she cringed at the possibility of Zelda taking her position as the bearer of the Element of Magic. "No... Just no..." She whimpered. "It's too late... I'm the fool..."
Twilight's wings wrapped around her head in guilt and shame as her friends defeated Solar Flare. A huge flash filled the room, and as she closed her wings, Solar Flare was gone within a heartbeat. "Celestia?" She breathed out.
"She's banished to the sun," Rainbow Dash explained. "That's the only way we could stop her for now, as Celestia once did Nightmare Moon long ago..."
"Huh?"
"Yup. And get yourself together, 'princess!' Whatever you did is evil and immoral. Luna would be so apalled at you right now," Apple Jack lectured.
"I'm with Apple Jack on the immorality part," Rarity added in.
"No! I'm sorry for what I did. If I was careful, then I would reject Solar Flare instead. But, it was too tempting, as I tried to release Celestia! I was so blind to my actions and deaf to the truth the whole time," Twilight repented. "Please forgive me! I even got a few innocents killed... And Spike, I know you hate me for being rude to you! I don't deserve to be a princess, and..."
Link walked to Luna, and kissed her on the lips. Luna woke up, and gasped at the scene before her. Although she was glad to be saved, she suspected that something bad really happened. Perhaps Solar Flare tempted Twilight to do something immoral! Luna shot up, took off her bandages, and stomped to Twilight to interrogate the lavender alicorn. "You!" Luna shouted. "What have you done?"
Twilight looked up to the angered alicorn, and crouched in remorse as Luna once did upon being redeemed by the Elements. "Luna! I allowed the innocents to get executed, and I even acted cruel to Spike. Also, I attempted to even eliminate my friends and the newcomers... How could I do such a sin to Equestria?" She hollered as tears rushed down her cheeks.
"That's just cruel. Although I want to forgive you, you have to make up for your actions. I have always expected you to succeed as the Princess of Friendship, but perhaps I was wrong! Of course Solar Flare is the evil in this world that is now banished, but you're also the evil in this world. The Element of Magic has betrayed you, because you betrayed it by not finding the spark. The citizens of Equestria will never see you for the Twilight that they once loved, but for the Twilight that supported Solar Flare and killed some of their dear foals." Luna was stern, and at the same time, she tried not to sound angry. But, Twilight's misdeeds were infuriating to say the least.
"Luna..." Twilight choked out. "I deserve to be executed."
"No... I will decide your punishment, for I am the older alicorn. I'm almost as old as my sister, so we get more power over the ponies. You're going to be on trial sometime this month. But for now, you are under arrest." Luna lectured. "I can't believe that you would do something that would tarnish your reputation. That's not how you're supposed to act as a royal."
"Sorry..."
"Of course you're sorry, Twilight Sparkle. The citizens will know of the atrocities that you have done."
"So I'm going to be seen as the villain."
"Yes, for you have done something quite villainous, remember?"
"I know, but Celestia promised me that I would succeed. Perhaps she placed too much faith into me."
"Perhaps she did, but If I were Celestia and I found out that you did something evil, then I would tell you that I wouldn't promise you anymore unless you have completely cleaned up your act."
"But she's forgiving!"
"No buts or what ifs, please. There is no more room for excuses." Luna finished as the sun began to set. "After all, I am a justice-driven mare that aims to protect Equestria from villains and criminals."
"It's your loss," Apple Jack told Twilight. "I still can't believe you would betray us. Although your friends and I forgive you, you have lost our trust. What will you do about it?"
"It's a nefarious thing to do," Rarity added in. "I can't be friends with somepony that did a crime."
"Who are you?" Fluttershy asked with fright as she hid behind Rainbow Dash.
"Exactly. This is why I can't handle ponies that betray me and the others," Rainbow Dash shot at Twilight.
"You're not coming to any more parties," Pinkie Pie added in.
"I'm Midnight's assistant from now on," Spike declared.
"This is what happens. Popularity means you have to pay the price if you did something evil," Zelda lectured.
"Yeah. I'm not going to be your friend," Link added in.
"Our friendship is over," Discord confided.
"Go home, my friends. Twilight and I will discuss her wicked actions at the castle. And I can't go there quickly without my wings-" Luna started as Discord snapped his fingers. Luna's wings were on her back now, and her magic even came back.
"That's a part of our friendship," Discord told her.
"Hey, we're not close friends. I mean, you almost plunged the world into eternal chaos and tried to torture me and my sister. How can that add up to friendship? Anyways, thanks for the wings and magic."
"I'll see you later. Good night."
Discord disappeared with a bright flash of light, leaving the two alicorns alone. "Let's go," Luna told Twilight. "You're not going home tonight, because I will have a special prison prepared for you."
"You forgave me?" Twilight asked, hopeful.
"I wish I would, but I could not. Our trust is broken, and I lost the heart to forgive others for their misdeeds. That was all because of Solar Flare, and Celestia's betrayal."
"Oh..."
"Have you learned a lesson?"
Twilight looked to Luna in confusion as they flew to Canterlot Castle. They walked into the hallway as the Lunar Guards gave Twilight an intimidating stare. "I don't know what you mean by that," She said.
"I mean, have you learned something from this experience?" Luna rephrased the question.
"Yes. What I learned that once you do something immoral, it can't be changed. You have to repent for your crimes and start from rock bottom."
"Exactly. I learned this too after I was released from Nightmare Moon. You can't change the past, but you can try to fix your reputation. I will spare your life if I hear that you're not going to be evil again."
"You can't love a monster." Twilight and Luna walked into the guest bedroom with bookshelves and a desk.
"We can love one, if they redeem themselves," Luna reminded her. "Also, I'm not sure if you can keep the title as Princess of Friendship. Zelda started using the Element of Magic because of the spark in her, and also because she..."
Twilight started sobbing once again and slumped onto the bed. "This can't be real! I'm being replaced!" She hollered. "All because-"
Luna knew how Twilight felt about her immoral actions. Once, when Luna was Nightmare Moon, she did a few immoral things. She had learned from her actions and promised not to become evil again. Twilight's remorse tugged at her heartstrings. Luna wanted to comfort her, but she must be stern with her, as Celestia was when Luna became Nightmare Moon on the night of her banishment to the moon.
Luna kept her composure as she sat on the bed. "Twilight, take a deep breath... You're not being replaced. You have to deal with losing the Element to Zelda with sensibility, not immaturity. When I learned that Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, and Apple Jack got Laughter, Loyalty, and Honesty, I didn't react with immaturity like you did. I accepted it as a mature adult would do," She advised. "You should do the same, Twilight."
"Luna! They're so obsessed with Zelda! How could they have accepted her so easily? I hate Zelda for this," Twilight retorted.
Luna wondered if Celestia has seen such childish behavior in Twilight one time. Celestia would have probably scolded Twilight and told her to stop. However, Celestia seemed like the type to say "get over it." Luna would not say that, for it would upset Twilight even more if she said that. "Twilight..." Luna said in a motherly tone of voice.
"You're not my mom!" Twilight shouted.
Luna felt worried that Twilight may lash out even more if she continued like this. Twilight seemed silly, acting like a little filly who just can't accept any life-changing situations. "I'm not your mother, but you must stop right now! You are being very disrespectful, and I don't like that. Count to ten, or do the calming technique that Cadence once taught you," She suggested.
Twilight calmed down for a few seconds, and took a deep breath. She knew that Luna took the mother position, and must not argue about it. She took another deep breath, and looked into Luna's eyes. Luna's eyes seemed stern still, yet compassionate at the same time. She was almost reminded of Celestia. Boy, she really did miss her already. "It's hard on me," Twilight said at last.
"Why?" Luna asked.
"I couldn't fathom the fact that Celestia was on the sun because of the crimes she did as Solar Flare. That's why I gave in... I guess I should have known better... I was such a fool..." Twilight looked down, because she barely felt like looking at Luna right now. She knew that Luna was probably appalled with her actions. "I tried to redeem her, but all I could do is give in so that I could escape prison. Then, I got afraid that if I told her the truth, she'll kill me immediately. My cowardice caused my misdeeds to happen."
"It's hard on me, too, but I stayed strong no matter what. I might forgive Celestia, but I'll never forget what Solar Flare did in that disguise. My strength melted away a few times, such as when I screamed angry things without impulse because Solar Flare used the disguise to fool me into thinking that Celestia betrayed me. Maybe Celestia didn't, but gave in to Solar Flare's wicked lies. I'm sure Celestia was hurt because of my outburst. I hope she forgives me," Luna replied. "Celestia also felt disappointed with you because you gave in to Solar Flare's malicious promises. I knew, because I can sense it. She could forgive you someday, but she still felt betrayed."
"Celestia betrayed us, though."
"It wasn't her. It was Solar Flare, remember? Good night, Twilight."
Twilight placed the covers onto herself as she proceeded to fall asleep. Luna turned off the lights and walked out of the room. When she entered the hallway, she was surprised that Midnight Glitter and Spike were waiting for her. "Oh," Luna said. "I spoke with Twilight, and..." How could she explain the heart-to-heart discussion if Spike and Midnight wouldn't accept?
17. Trials and Lullabies
Author's note: If you want to know why some characters seemed a bit off, this was situated in an alternate universe, where things happened differently. Hopefully this would make sense.
Luna woke up one afternoon, and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She had a dream where her sister sang a lullaby, filled with regret for her actions and cruelty. She walked into the throne room to start Twilight's trial. Discord was there, and so were the others that saved the day. They seemed angry with Twilight for what she had done. "I still can't believe it," Rarity complained.
"I know. We said that many times," Apple Jack agreed.
"So now we have to be the jury. How boring," Pinkie Pie said.
"She did something immoral, so we must decide her punishment... Sort of," Rainbow Dash explained. "Although, Luna has power over us, so she can decide."
"No comment," Fluttershy whispered fearfully.
"I guess I can be the lawyer or the officer," Discord said as he snapped his fingers. Now he was wearing a formal uniform, and the overlookers almost smiled at his chaotic antics.
"It doesn't matter. Whenever a villain or criminal breaks the law, he or she has to pay the price for heinous actions," Zelda told them.
"That's true," Link agreed.
As they continued discussing Twilight's crimes against Equestria, several ponies that knew Twilight walked into the throne room. They seemed to have several emotions written across their faces; anger, hurt, disappointment, shock, and vice versa. They were not very happy about this, especially Twilight's parents, brother, and sister-in-law.
"I can't believe this," Cadence said. "What caused Twilight to go rogue and join the dark side?"
"I don't know, but she has to clean up her act," Twilight's parents said in unison.
"She doesn't need a harsh punishment," Shining Armor said.
"It doesn't always need to be harsh," His mother reminded him.
"Our daughter did this. How can she expect us to defend her?" Night Light replied.
"We don't need to. She did something immoral, and now she will pay the price." Twilight Velvet cleared her throat as she shook her head solemnly.
Twilight Sparkle overheard the discussion and ran to them. "I know, I know. I did something immoral. Let me tell you this..." She started, but her parents looked away. Her brother gave her a cold expression, and Cadence seemed disappointed.
"What do you even need?" Shining Armor asked.
"Perhaps you aren't really a princess after all," Cadence added in.
"I helped with Solar Flare's heinous crimes by executing the innocents," Twilight admitted.
"Shocking... I don't have a say about this..." Cadence nodded for a second as she turned her head away.
"You will have tarnished your reputation," Shining Armor told Twilight as he turned sideways.
"I have, already-" Twilight maintained.
"I don't talk to criminals!" Shining Armor lost his temper and stomped away from his sister.
Twilight frowned, and lowered her ears as if she was very upset about what she did. Other ponies entered the throne room wearing black capes. Those ponies were also members of the jury, and also, she wondered why there wasn't a judge to decide her fate. Discord snapped his fingers and made the desks appear. He even made the jury section next to the stained glass windows. The ponies of Equestria entered the throne room to watch the trial. A reporter came in, and started recording the scene before her.
Twilight could hear shouts from outside, and the ponies sounded as if they were chanting for the justice for the innocents that got executed. She was sure that everypony hated her right now, for the ponies sounded hateful and livid. Twilight sat down, and Luna sat upon the throne. She gazed at the others before her with a stern expression, and cleared her throat. "We have gathered today for the trial of Princess Twilight Sparkle. We will decide if she is guilty or innocent," She announced as she banged the gavel. "Let's start..."
Twilight felt as if the crowd was going to shout hateful comments any second. She wanted to apologize to them, but she had to be silence and brace herself despite all of the anger towards her for her actions against Equestria's children. "Twilight is so evil. Now I wonder why Celestia even made her into a princess," A mare commented. "She got one of my foals killed."
"How horrible," A stallion agreed.
"She deserves to be executed. I won't be surprised if she attempted to usurp the throne from the older alicorns."
"She didn't even seem remorseful when that happened," A familiar young voice said.
"I know, Sweetie Belle," Another young voice agreed.
"Be quiet for now," Another voice said.
Twilight Sparkle sighed with remorse as she tried to look into Luna's eyes. "Twilight, you have helped Solar Flare to carry out her misdeeds by executing the innocents. The others survived, though... But, because of your actions, you won't be allowed to run freely around Equestria anymore," Luna started.
"And not to mention that you betrayed the kingdom by doing so," Discord added in.
"Even though you apologized, we won't go easy on you. Do you think you are guilty?" Luna asked Twilight.
"Yes," Twilight replied.
The jury decided that Twilight was guilty. And Luna decided what punishment Twilight would receive for her actions. "You are no longer a princess. You will be doing community service for two years. You will be monitored by the officers. If you drunk alcohol, did drugs, stole something, or even threatened to fight somepony, you will get a re-trial. You are not allowed to talk to dangerous criminals whose only intention is to escape and do more evil things against the law," Luna concluded.
Discord snapped his fingers, and Twilight's wings were no longer on her back. "And that's why you're no longer an alicorn. If you flew away, that would be seen as escaping punishment," He said.
"Trial has ended. It's almost time for the Autumn Moon Celebration to start, so go ahead and get ready," Luna announced.
The desks disappeared, and soon, the throne room seemed almost empty. Zelda, Link, and the others were still in the throne room. "You won't go outside late at night," Luna told Twilight. "You have to be home by seven. Not seven thirty, not seven o' one, and not seven and thirty seconds."
"Okay," Twilight replied as she walked out of the throne room.
Luna turned her attention to the group, and they prepared to exit the castle. "Is Twilight allowed to attend?" Spike asked.
"I don't think so," Luna replied. "She can't be home late at night, remember?"
"Oh."
"I don't like Twilight anyways," Midnight said.
The Cutie Mark Crusaders appeared in front of them, and looked to Luna with appreciation. "Princess Luna!" Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom chimed in unison.
"Hi," Scootaloo said. "I'm so happy the ordeal is over. I was very scared."
"Me too," Sweetie Belle added in.
"Me three," Apple Bloom agreed.
"And all the floodwaters are gone," Discord said. "The ice caps were frozen once again."
"That's good," Luna replied. "We can't have balance without chaos."
"He's annoying," Link commented.
"I'm not dating him! Just because Discord and I were immortal doesn't mean that we used to be in love," Luna told him as she smirked playfully. She prodded Link with playfulness.
"You're too cute," Link replied, receiving another playful nudge from the princess.
"You're just very cocky sometimes."
Link only smirked as he chuckled at Luna's remark. "Excuse me, princess," Link replied. He received another playful jab from the princess because of that.
"Okay, ever since you two kissed, you've been bantering with each other," Zelda told them. "Well, in a flirty way."
Luna and Link looked at Zelda for a moment. Then, Luna draped her wing over Link's back. "We're not in a relationship yet, but we can get kissy-kissy with each other sometimes," Luna said.
"Well, then I dare you to make out," Pinkie said.
"That'd be gross," Rainbow objected.
"Come on. It's cute," Rarity disagreed.
"A princess and her knight, like from one of Apple Bloom's favorite tales? Seems legit," Apple Jack said. "Although, not every princess needs a stallion."
"The funny thing is, Celestia told me one time that I don't need a stallion to be happy," Luna replied.
"Celestia isn't here anymore. Why mention her if she betrayed us?" Midnight Glitter questioned.
Luna stared at the ground for a moment. "I still love my sister, even though she became evil," She admitted. "Don't speak of her that way again, please."
Zelda and the others hugged Luna, as if to remind her that it was all right. "I know it's hard," Zelda said.
"You have to be strong for the kingdom, though," Discord advised Luna.
"I'm here if you need me," Link said.
"Besides, it's the Autumn Moon Celebration," Pinkie Pie said. "I hope we get to party all night."
Luna walked to the stage, and smiled at the crowd before her. She was backlit by the setting sun, which illuminated her form and her beauty. "Tonight, we are gathered to see the moon rise," She announced as the crowd cheered. "This is to celebrate the defeat of Solar Flare."
The crowd cheered once again as the unicorn used their magic to wave the glowsticks in the air. The pegasi helped to clear the sky, and the earth ponies waited patiently. Luna activated her magic, and flew into the air. She made the sun set, which resulted in the glorious moonrise with the stars sparkling in the sky. The crowd gasped in awe at the sight of the full moon. Luna's coat glistened in the silvered light of the full moon. Her body glowed with the silvered light as the crowd gasped even more.
"Oh, my," A mare commented. "How glorious!"
"Such raw beauty," A stallion agreed.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star!" A filly sang.
"Much better than Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia," A colt confided.
As Luna landed onto the stage, she sighed quietly as she started to sing. "Fate has been cruel, and order unkind... How can I have sent you away? The blame was my own, the punishment yours... The harmony's silent today..." She started.
The crowd started to listen to the lullaby. They started to understand why Luna and Celestia seemed so close as sisters. "The feels!" Pinkie shouted.
"I hate crying," Rainbow complained.
"Everypony cries," Apple Jack said. "But, I cry on the inside."
"But, into the stillness, I'll bring you a song, for I will your company keep till your tired eyes and my sweet lullabies have carried you softly to sleep," Luna sang as she glanced at the dying light.
"She has the voice of a goddess," Link commented.
"I know," Zelda agreed. "Even I can't beat that glorious singing voice of hers."
Luna thought of the times when she and her sister were in public as the crowd adored them. "Once did a pony that shone like the moon, looked out on the kingdom and sigh... She smiled and said, 'surely there is no pony so lovely and so well loved as I...' So great was her wisdom and so brilliant the nighttime that long was the shadow she cast, which fell dark upon the old sister she loved and grew only darker as the days and nights passed..." She sang.
"Lullay, sun princess, good-night sister mine! Rest now in sunlight's embrace... Bear up my lullaby, winds of the earth... Through clouds and through skies and through space! Carry the liveliness and warmth of day, and carry my sorrow in kind... Tia, you're loved so much more than you know! Forgive me for being so blind..." Luna continued.
"Damn, those two alicorn sisters know how to bring on the feels," Rainbow commented.
"Don't cuss," Fluttershy said. "It's not necessary."
"Why does this song make me think of myself and Sweetie Belle?" Rarity asked.
Luna thought about the time when she was being adored at the gala, where her sister lost it and went rogue. Her eyes saddened as she thought about how she could have saved her sister, not allowed her to get banished. "Soon did that foolish princess notice that others do not give to the sun her due, and neither had loved her as she deserved... She only watched as her sister's unhappiness grew... But, such is the way of the limelight, it sweetly takes the mind of its host, and that foolish pony did nothing to stop the destruction of one who needed her most..." Luna was on the verge of tears, yet she couldn't bear to cry in public.
She wished that she could have saved her sister from becoming evil, but she felt that it was too late, since Celestia didn't listen to her. May troubles be far from your mind and forgive me for being so blind..." Luna watched as the remaining light from the sunset disappeared, allowing the sky to become very dark.
Luna knew that she wouldn't see her sister for a long time. She hoped that a new student would redeem her someday, soon... One can only hope, right? "The years now, before us, fearful and unknown... I never imagined, I'd face them on my own... May those thousand summers swiftly pass I pray..." Tears fell down her cheeks as she remembered the time when the Elements of Harmony sent her sister away.
"I love you... I miss you... All these miles away," Luna finished. The crowd started crying at this part, and the group couldn't imagine how she must have felt.
"I even got affected by the feels, to be honest," Apple Jack said as her eyes watered for a second.
"This is what love feels like. You'd cry a lot if you know that you're going to miss your family," Pinkie said.
"A lot has changed since Solar Flare's banishment," Fluttershy admitted.
"I couldn't imagine how she must have felt..." Discord whispered as he placed his hands onto his chest.
"May those dreams be sweet tonight, safe upon that bed of sunlight... And not know of sadness, pain, or care... And when I dream, I'll fly away to meet you there! Sleep... Sleep... Sleep..." Luna sang at last.
The crowd didn't cheer, but they wiped away the tears from their eyes. Never had they heard of their strong co-rulers having emotion like this...
"The feels are simply overwhelming," Rainbow said.
Link couldn't take it anymore. He didn't like to see Luna so sad... He walked onto the stage and embraced the saddened princess of the night. "Oh, what could I have done instead?" Luna confided. "It was too late..."
"There, there..." Link replied.
Luna smiled sadly as she draped her wing around Link. "There should be a way to get her back. Otherwise, she will be evil for a long time..." Luna closed her eyes and went back to a time when she and her sister would get along perfectly. They were quite young by then... They didn't have to worry about responsibility or banishing one another away from their sides.
Luna looked up to the sky, and thought about the time when her sister congratulated her for rising the moon for the first time. She wondered if being royal was the cause of going rogue or being jealous of one another. If that was the case, then the sisters could have fixed the past...
