Diamond Tiara's Confession
Chapter 9: 9. Chapter 9
Previous Chapter Next ChapterApple Dumpling's POV
I left to go back to my home, and when I was questioned, I told them all he just wanted to say his apologies for terrorizing the pony race. Applejack surprisingly believed me.
I walked casually to my room, and as I was about to read a book, I felt the sudden urge to say something nasty towards Apple Bloom, but I managed to hold back. I couldn't believe myself. Seconds later, however, I got another knock at the door. I went to the door, and found myself face to face with Button Mash.
"Can I have a private chat?"
"Sure. Let's go to my room." I led him to my room, and when he stepped inside, I locked the door behind us.
"So what do you want? I presume the date went well."
He blushed. "Yeah. It went over great. In fact, she wanted to do it again sometime."
"That's terrific. So why are you here, Button?"
"I wanted to thank you for helping me out. I got you a little something." He reached in his saddlebags and pulled out a necklace. It was made of what appeared to be crystal, and the charm in the center was an apple.
"Wow, Button. Where did you get this?"
He blushed again. "I originally wanted to date Apple Bloom, but she shot me down."
"What a bummer. But anyway, thanks. I kinda like it." I admired the necklace a little before looking back at him. He seemed rather upset.
"Something wrong, kiddo?"
"Well, if you wanna know..." He glanced away.
"Don't worry, I can keep secrets. Talk to Auntie Dumpling."
"Relax. Just talk to me."
"Okay. It's just, well, I've just looked at my past, and I realized, I have had very insecure feelings. You see, most of my life, I pulled all nighters on video games. I spent my afternoons playing video games. I played video games on weekends. My life has literally been videogames this and videogames that. After Twilight's castle appeared, I had my eye on Sweetie Belle. I wanted to ask her out so deeply, but due to my lack of social knowledge, I couldn't bring myself to it. And having you as a bully made it much harder. No offense."
"None taken. So you said you wanted to date Apple Bloom too?"
"That was after the 'Cutie Pox' incident."
"So when did she turn you down?"
He hesitated. "I asked her a few days after it happened."
"Well, that's the past, and now you're with Sweetie Belle. You should feel proud."
He smiled. "I guess I am. Well, I gotta go. I promised her I wouldn't be gone long."
"Well, it's been good talking to you. Guess I'll see you tomorrow, Button."
"See ya." He left.
Button Mash's POV
I went back to Carousel Boutique, where Sweetie Belle stood looking pleased.
"So whatcha wanna do, Mash?"
"Let's go up to your room, Sweetie. Don't worry, I'm not gonna do anything stupid." We went to her room. "Would you happen to have some source of music and a pair of headphones?"
She grabbed them both, and then she asked for an explanation.
"I was hoping we could play the 'Whisper Game.' Have you ever played it before?"
She shook her head.
"Well, one person has to put on the headphones and listen to music while anypony else playing has to try to get the pony with the headphones to try and say a certain phrase. It's a lot of fun."
She understood easily, and she put on the headphones. I, meanwhile, looked up "funny phrases" on my smartphone. My first one was "My pet salad ate my house." I had a hard time stifling laughs as she said the following:
"My wind flowing, no, string instrument thingy, no—Button, cut that out." I had decided to make a dumb face. Suddenly, that cat with the name I can't remember walked in.
"Opalescent, pet?! Yes, pet. My, pet, soup, no wait, is it noodles? No? How 'bout salad? Yes, salad? My, pet salad, Button, wha—eight, hold on. My pet salad ate, my again, giant triangle? Huh? Giant round things house? So lemme get this straight. My pet salad ate my house?" Then, I sort of pulled off the headphones, nodding in reply.
"And that's how you play, Sweetie, simple as that."
Needless to say, she agreed, and we had tons of fun trying to say funny phrases. I said some stupid things, and she said some stupid things. All in all, we had a lot of fun. Sadly, not unlike all good things, the time came for my departure.
I looked out the window, just in time to see the sun touching the horizon. I decided to let Sweetie Belle know I had to leave.
"Aw, but we were having so much fun, Button."
"I don't want this to end either, but I'm still a young colt, and I still have a curfew."
"Fine. Guess I'll see you in school tomorrow."
"Actually, Sweetie, tomorrow's Saturday. There's no school. But don't worry. I'll still be around tomorrow."
"Alright. See ya."
I left, thanking Rarity for allowing me to stay up to this point. She bid me farewell, and I was on my way, waiting for the next day.
