My Little Pony: Racing Is Magicby The master of the game
Chapters
1. Everfree Pass
Hey. I got this idea, and I just wanted to put it down. This is just for fun, if no one likes it will stay a oneshot, and if some people like, then I'll continue. WARNING: This is a highly AU where the ponies are humans with pony traits, mostly ears, tails, wings and horns. Always wear your seatbelt when driving and drive responsibly.
Twilight was waiting for Rainbow Dash to show up. Her friend was really into racing, and she wanted to improve her time on the Everfree Pass. In the distance, tires were squealing and an engine was roaring. Then, a cyan Skyline GT-R R34 appeared around the curve. It was coming fast, probably several dozen kilometres over the limit.
The GT-R came to a stop in front of Twilight. The driver came out of the right side of the car, being an import car. Rainbow Dash walked up to Twilight with a smile.
"Ready to roll?"
"You know I don't like this. But if it can help you, then I'm willing to try." Twilight answered.
Twilight walked back to her car, a purple Porsche 964 Carrera 4. She got in and turned the keys, bringing the car to life. Rainbow went back in her own car, and drove back on the road facing the opposite direction she came from. Twilight got in position beside her.
Everfree Pass was the name of a 5.6 kilometre-long part of the Everfree National Park road. The Pass, like the locals nicknamed it, had several quick turns and tight hairpins, and was considered one of the most dangerous course by the local racers. Rainbow Dash held the fastest time on Everfree Pass, but only from Ponyville. She had some difficulties when it came to doing it towards Ponyville.
Twilight smirked as she pushed the throttle, making her engine roar with the typical purr of a Porsche. She knew the course like the back of her hand. Rainbow knew Twilight wasn't much of a racer, but when she did race, she was a force to be reckoned with. After all, Twilight did hold the fastest time on Everfree Pass towards Ponyville.
They waited for a while. Then, without warning, Twilight passed in first gear and took off, leaving Rainbow behind a few seconds. Fortunately, Rainbow's reflexes were good, and she quickly got in first gear. Rainbow's GT-R was not as good as Twilight's 964, but with her great reflexes, Rainbow could still stick to Twilight's bumper like chewing gum on the sole of a shoe.
The first corner came quickly. It was a left. Twilight slowed down before entering the corner and flooring it just before the apex of the corner. The rear end of her Porsche slid a little, but with one quick movement of the steering wheel, and the car was no longer sliding. Rainbow also slowed down, but as soon as she began attacking the corner, she sped up, causing the four-wheel drive GT-R to drift. She left the corner with a difference of merely three hundredth of a second behind.
Twilight shifted in second gear, the straightaway behind around 800 metres long. Rainbow stayed in first, knowing from her past attempts that going in second when your car's weight could easily be upset was a bad idea. Approaching the right corner, Twilight downshift back to first, applying pressure on the foot brake. The rear engine, four-wheel drive Porsche had a particular behaviour when braking. The weight of the engine was transferred towards the front, reducing the car's ability to turn.
Twilight steered towards the inside of the corner. When she reached a certain point, she slammed on the gas pedal while steering, sending the weight of the engine to the rear. The Porsche entered a slight drift that Twilight countered with a single motion. Rainbow was still on her rear bumper. She had sped up in the corner, now in second gear. Twilight shifted to second gear.
Corner three, four and five were now the next. These three successive corners where doing a left-right-left snake, and it was one of the hardest part. Twilight shifted to third, Rainbow still on her. Rainbow shifted to third as well. Twilight entered the first corner at her current speed, taking the inside. She entered the second in the same way. The third one was slightly more pronounced, but nothing Twilight couldn't handle. She sped out of the snake, shifting to fourth.
Rainbow struggled to keep up with Twilight, the GT-R tending to slid in the corner. She managed to prevent a spin out, and as she exited the last corner of the snake, she shifted to fourth.
Rainbow tried to pass Twilight by going into the left lane, but Twilight was going slightly faster, which made it impossible for the GT-R to pass the 964. Both girls shifted to fifth. Soon, they reached the first hairpin. Twilight downshift to, fourth, third then second, then entered the hairpin. Rainbow downshift to fourth, then third. She braked a little, entering a drift. Both girls exited the hairpin side by side. Twilight shifted to third.
They were now on the longest straightaway, and by the time they reached the second hairpin turn, Rainbow was in sixth gear and Twilight was in fifth. Rainbow was slowly pulling away from Twilight. By the time they reached the hairpin turn, Rainbow was in the lead, with Twilight close behind.
Rainbow slowed down as she entered the hairpin, taking the inside. Twilight, however, kept going near the maximum speed of her car. She braked at the last second and turned hard. The Porsche began to drift at high speed on the outside, keeping up with the non-drifting GT-R of Rainbow Dash. They exited the hairpin, yet again side by side.
The final three hairpin turns were coming fast. It was the hardest part of the course, and also where most of the spectators usually stood to get a good view of the races. Rainbow pulled in front of Twilight, taking the inside. But Twilight took the outside, pulling yet another high speed drift. The spectators cheered as the two cars passed them.
'Come on. Just two more hairpins...' Rainbow thought, sweat on her forehead.
Rainbow took the outside of the second hairpin, drifting at high speed through it. Twilight also took the outside and drifted at high speed. The final hairpin turn came into view, and Rainbow began a drift before entering the hairpin, letting enough room for Twilight to pass her. Twilight did so, but had to slow down a lot as Rainbow was drifting on the inside, preventing Twilight from speeding out of the hairpin. She pulled back, her car leaving the hairpin ahead of Twilight by a little more than a second.
As Rainbow left the Everfree forest, she slowed down and pulled over, waiting for Twilight to come. Twilight pulled over in front of the GT-R, and Twilight left her car. She walked to Rainbow, who lowered her window.
"congratulation, Rainbow."
"Huh?"
"You're holding the fastest time on Everfree Pass towards Ponyville. I have beaten my old record by three seconds, and you were about a second in front of me."
Rainbow threw her fist in the air, happy to finally be the fastest on Everfree Pass. She drove back on the road and went back home to celebrate. Twilight stood there beside her car, a laptop in her hands. She was analyzing the data she gathered during the race when she heard the roar of an engine.
She looked up and saw headlights coming from the Everfree forest. By the sound of the engine, Twilight determined that the car was an old one. The car passed her. It was a black 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS. Twilight gasped and closed her laptop. She climbed back in her car and went back to the library to call Rainbow and her other racing friends to talk about the black car.
2. Sweet Apple Loop
Hey. I didn't expect 22 visitors. Here's a new chapter, but I'll need more than one review and 22 visitors to keep updating this story, since I made this story for fun. Enjoy.
Twilight had called her racing friends, and she was now driving towards the Hayburger, their usual meeting ground. Twilight parked her car between an orange 1967 Chevrolet Impala and a white Aston Martin V12 Vantage. She got out of her car, and walked inside the restaurant.
Applejack, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Rarity were sitting at a table, eating. Twilight went to them and sat down.
"Okay girls. Maybe Rainbow already told you, but yesterday, she and I raced, and she won, busting my old what you don't know is that I saw a black Camaro SS speed past me after Rainbow left. My best guess, we have visit from San Flanksisco. The Black Flag Crew."
Her friends all gasped.
"Ponyville's our territory. Let's bust 'em out of here!" Rainbow said.
Just then, a man in his early twenties walked in. He wore a black leather jacket, black jeans and black sneakers. Even his hair was black. Outside were three black cars, all bearing the logo of the Black Flag Crew, a black flag on a white disk.
Once the man got his order, he walked to Twilight.
"We want to challenge you girls to a simple race. Muscle car only, on Sweet Apple Loop. Today. Meet us there."
The man walked out and went to his crew. Applejack was smirking.
"If they thank they can beat us around ma home, they're mistakin'." She said and got up.
Twilight and her friends arrived on what was the starting line of the Sweet Apple Loop. It was a loop of regional roads running around Sweet Apple Acres. There was already the Black Flag Crew, but there was also another team from Ponyville, the Daytime Warriors. Twilight recognized the two-tone silver and white Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 of their leader.
"Okay. Three laps. First to cross wins. One member per team." A man from the Black Flag Crew called.
Applejack got in her Impala and drove to the starting line. Beside heron the left was the black 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS, and on her right was the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 of the Daytime Warriors.
"Chevy Showdown." The man who said the rules said.
Just then, an engine roared in the distance. Shortly after that, a metallic dark blue Dodge Viper SRT10 with a flame decal on the front fenders and the hood appeared on the road. It stopped beside the Camaro SS. driving it was a figure wearing a helmet which visor was tinted black. There was no way to tell if the driver was male or female. All the local racers let out sighs, and the foreigners were simply confused.
"Alright. Start your engines."
A chorus of starting engines answered the man who was about to start the race.
"On your marks. Get set."
The engines were roaring, the drivers ready to speed down the road.
"3."
The roaring reduced.
"2."
The drivers looked around, gauging their opponents.
"1."
All the drivers got ready to go.
"GO!"
The Camaro did a little burn before taking off, behind the three other cars. Applejack had an excellent start, taking off in first place. The Corvette and the Viper were fighting for second place.
Applejack focused far ahead. As she knew the course perfectly, she also knew that the very first corner was a tricky one where most racers would crash. She braked and took the corner easy. The Corvette took it as easy, which surprised Applejack, but not as much as the recklessness of the Viper's driver. The Viper took the corner too hard, entering a drift, drift that was perfectly controlled. All three cars got out of the corner at the same time. The Camaro almost crashed.
Applejack drover on the right-hand side of the road, looking for a small shortcut only she knew. Or so she thought. When she saw the shortcut, she took it, followed by the Corvette. The Viper didn't take it. The narrow passage cut almost two kilometres from the 7.8 kilometre course. The Corvette was sticking to her, and Applejack was pissed. The shortcut passed through the orchard and was a private path. The left the path after passing between two rows of apple trees.
Applejack's Impala drifted as she turned to go back on the road. The Corvette took it slowly, and both car sped up at the same time, barely leaving Applejack in the lead. The starting line was visible, and Applejack's friends were happy as she was in the lead, but so were the Daytime Warriors seeing their leader so close to the Impala.
The second lap was a copy of the first, the only difference being that the two other cars in the race seemed far behind. However, as Applejack's Impala and the Corvette got closer to the starting line, the Viper was back in the race, and closing on the two leading cars. And so was the Camaro.
The third and final lap was harder than what Applejack had expected. As she passed the first corner, the Corvette was still behind her, but the Viper was now in front of her. When she took the shortcut, not only did the Viper take it too, but the Corvette passed her. She was now third, but still close behind the Corvette, when she heard the Camaro.
All four cars passed the finish line within two hundredth of a second of each other. The four cars pulled over, and the challenger from the Black Flag Crew got out and went to Applejack who had gotten out of her car to congratulate the two winners, the phantom driver with the Viper, and the Corvette's driver.
"You cheated! You used nitro!"
"No, Ah ain't usin' that."
Applejack popped the hood and showed the engine to the complaining fourth place. The Corvette's driver popped the Camaro's hood, and everyone could see two bottles of nitrous oxide. The driver of the Camaro turned around, closed the hood of his car, and drove away.
"Good driving out there. You're really good, and I thought I was the only one that knew about the private path."
"Well, you're standin' in front of tha owner of that path, sugarcube."
"Sorry 'bout that. The name's Flaming Wheel."
"It's okay. I'm Applejack."
The Daytime Warriors then ran to their leaders and the phantom driver to congratulate them. Then, the latter took her helmet off, revealing very long pale pink hair, teal eyes and a shy smile.
"FLUTTERSHY?!" All the racers said.
Fluttershy nodded.
"I know I should have said it, but I didn't want to disappoint you."
"It's okay Fluttershy. And your car is AWESOME!" Rainbow said.
"An' so is yer drivin', sugarcube." Applejack added.
"Before I forget... Twilight, you and your team are invited to a little competition held in Canterlot and organized by the Daytime Warriors. Fluttershy, you're invited too." Flaming Wheel said before climbing back in his car and speeding away, followed by his team.
"I gotta race against ya, Fluttershy." Rainbow said.
"Your car won't even last one minute against my Viper. Your Skyline has 276 horsepower stock, and I doubt you even modified your car's engine. My Viper has 600 horsepower when it is stock, and I modified the engine a little."
Rainbow's jaw dropped, amazed at Fluttershy's knowledge of cars.
"What? My dad was a car enthusiast and he taught me everything I know, including racing."
Then, a radio sounded in Fluttershy's Viper.
"Attention all units. A street race is currently in progress on highway 7, towards Canterlot. Canterlot Police Departement already set a spike strip ahead of the race and blocked every exit. They're waiting for our move, and all units on non-prioritary calls must join the pursuit."
"Police frequency? It's highly illegal."
"And so is street racing, Twilight."
"Good point."
"Central, this is unit 35. I'm heading towards Sweet Apple Acres to investigate a possible street race."
"Copy, 35. Proceed with investigation."
Fluttershy smirked and put her helmet back on. She got back in her car, and threw a radio to Twilight.
"Don't change the settings. You'll know where the cops are now."
With that, Fluttershy took off and sped away. After a few minutes, the radio sounded.
"Central, this is unit 35. In pursuit. Vehicle is a metallic dark blue Viper SRT10. I need backups."
"35, keep visual contact with vehicle. The federal police is taking the pursuit over."
Twilight got in her car, and all her friends did the same thing.
"You sure about that?" Rainbow said over their personal radio.
"Yep. She's our friend."
"I'll take this one, darlings. My Vantage has more than enough horsepower to keep up with the police."
"Okay, then. Good luck, Rarity."
With that, the white V12 Vantage took off in the same direction Fluttershy went.
