Fall of Equestria
Chapter 4: Flashback 1
Previous ChapterHEEEEEEEEEEEY! I'm back! Finally, the month of October was more charged than I thought, but I still found a way to write the first Flashback! Right now, you'll not read an actual chapter that follows the last one, but just a "chapter" that'll explain how Trixie and Pinkie met for the first time~ I really like these two mares, they're so great together. Oh and by the way, I was wondering about a great theme for my Fanfic, and finally, I decided a theme for each "factions":
Uprising by Muse for the Moonlight Rebellion
watch?v=w8KQmps-Sog
Knights of Cydonia by Muse for the Sunshine Army (The lyrics are not that representative of the Sunshine Army, but anyway, it still fits a bit.)
watch?v=Q3Yc3HhSl1Q
Resistance by Muse for the Resistance (I know that nigga is inspired by the book "1984", and the lyrics doesn't really fit with the whole Resistance thing, but the title of the song is "Resistance", so yeah, deal with it)

The war between Princess Luna and Princess Celestia has started two years ago. Everypony has chosen if they wanted to be part of the Sunshine Army or the Moonlight Rebellion. Some of them thought that the Sunshine Army was safest place than the Moonlight Rebellion, and one of them ponies was Trixie.
Trixie was a real coward when it came to fight. She thought that Princess Celestia was stronger than anypony else, so she felt safe when she was in the Sunshine Army. But she, Trixie, was far from being the strongest unicorn: In fact, she wasn't important at all. In the Sunshine Army, the unicorns are teachers, scientist, nurses, firemares, policemares or wizards.
But Trixie never wanted to practice one of these jobs, so Trixie she was unemployed. She didn't have the special permission of Queen Celestia to be unemployed. So she lived with the strict minimum: A tiny house, not much water and synthetic food.
Habitually, it was ponies like Trixie that was sent to the Resistance. But Trixie convinced herself that Celestia would never send her with the Resistance losers: She could be useful in something, no? She was sure Celestia will find her a job soon or later.
So, for now, Trixie was laying on the couch that was also her bed. She was staring at the little spiders on her moldy ceiling. Spiders, she was used to it: her "house" had more holes than a cheese grater. And after all, spiders were her only friends: She didn't have friends before the war because she was selfish and arrogant. It's not like anypony would want to be friend with her during the war.
But then, suddenly, somepony knocked at her door. She was surprised: Trixie had forgotten the sound of a hoof knocking at a door. She doesn't even remember if somepony already knocked at her door.
"Who is it?" asked she to the ponies on the other side of the door as she left her couch and her spider friends.
"We are Sunshine Soldiers; we have a message from Queen Celestia for Mademoiselle Trixie." answered the other side of the door.
A message from Queen Celestia!? Trixie was happy and excited at the same time: Did Celestia found a job for Trixie? She hoped that the Sunshine Soldiers were at her "house" for this reason. Joyfully, Trixie opened the door for the soldiers.
"I'm Trixie."
"Hello then, madam, Queen Celestia asked us to bring you this message:" the Sunshine Soldier took out a sheet from his bag and read it. "Trixie, my dear citizen, I, Queen Celestia, did the tests to see if you deserved to be part of the Sunshine Army. Like you know, you don't work and you don't have the permission to do nothing. It has been over three months since you didn't work, so I'm sorry to tell you that you're going to be sent to The Resistance. We hope you'll understand, the beloved Queen of the Sunshine Army, Queen Celestia."
At first, Trixie didn't understand what was happening: There had to have a mistake somewhere. Why Celestia would kick her out of the Sunshine Army? She never harmed anyone!
"I-I think you're mistaken: Queen Celestia would never do something like that to me, don't you think!?"
"Our Queen isn't mistaken: You told us that you were Trixie so, except if you're not the one you said you were, you'll have to come with us."
Trixie was destroyed. That's not what she wanted; all she asked for was to be safe! She could have done anything just stay in the Sunshine Army: There have to be something she could say to change the mind of Celestia and her soldiers.
"L-Listen, I think there's a problem somewhere, I'm sure I can do something to change your mind! I can work! It's not like if I was useless!"
"Ma'am, we're just listening to the orders, now follow us into the carriage: We're leading to the Resistance" said the first soldier.
"Wait! I'm going to work from now, I promise!"
"You should have said that few weeks ago, now it's too late" said the second one.
"NO! I don't want to-" one of the Sunshine Soldiers hit her to the head with his mace, causing Trixie to faint.
Hours later, Trixie woke up in the carriage; her hooves were strapped together with a rope. Surprisingly, she didn't panicked, she stayed still, sad. As tears streamed down her face, she thought about the Resistance. What if it wasn't THAT bad? After all, it's Pinkie Pie that rules it.
Pinkie Pie… One of the Elements of Harmony… She was Trixie's second favourite element. Her favourite element was, of course, Twilight Sparkles, because she was the magic element. Trixie always wanted to be as great with magic as Twilight. Like Trixie always says, some unicorns born weaker than others, and Trixie was part of the weak one.
But the reason why Trixie liked Pinkie was for a completely other reason. When the war started, Trixie's smile disappeared forever. She would never be happy again, but when she thought that everypony else were like her, she met Pinkie Pie.
When I say that she met her, I'm not saying she actually talked to her or anything, she just seen her on the TV. Even with the war, Pinkie Pie had never stopped laughing and smiling. Trixie wanted to learn Pinkie's secret.
But as the carriage led her to Pinkie's "kingdom", a dark thought passed through her mind. What if there's no Resistance? What if Queen Celestia created the "Resistance" just to fool the useless unicorns like Trixie? Maybe she won't go to the Resistance; maybe the Sunshine Soldiers will just execute her in the middle of the desert.
After what it seemed to be hours, the carriage finally stopped. Trixie was ready to face her fate: she could feel the tears in her eyes but she wasn't going to let them flow down her face. She didn't cry in years and she didn't want to let it go right now.
One of the soldiers she saw earlier opened the curtains to let the sunlight fill the carriage. He grabbed one of Trixie's front hooves and brought her outside the carriage. Then, the soldier literally threw Trixie on the ground.
Trixie was right: She was right in the middle in the desert and nothing could stop the soldiers to execute her. She wasn't going to be a big loss: after all, maybe she is useless… maybe.
The blue mare closed her eyes waiting for one of the soldiers to take her life, but when she heard the carriage moving, she re-opened her eyes. She couldn't believe it: The soldiers were going to let her die from hunger in the middle of nowhere.
When she was going to ask them where they were going, the carriage stopped so one of the soldiers could get out. The soldier walked toward Trixie with a scornful look.
"I almost forgot:" The soldier started as he violently kicked Trixie's horn.
The pain was awful; never in her life had Trixie felt a pain as horrible as this. She could feel pain from the tip of her horn to her hooves, she felt like she was burning and drowning at the same time.
"Now here you go, no more magic for you ma'am. Magic is forbidden outside the Sunshine Army. Now just wait for Miss Pinkie Pie to come and bring you back to the, erm, Resistance."
The soldier then walked back into the carriage. Trixie was feeling like she was dying on the hot sand. She heard the carriage driving away from her, but she could not care less: The biggest of her worry was her horn.
At first, she couldn't accept the fact that it may be broken, but when she saw it lying on the ground, it confirmed her theory. She thought that horns were unbreakable, but she also knew that the strongest is the magic of a Unicorn, the stronger was her horn: So Trixie's horn was as solid as a carrot.
Hours later, Trixie, after reflection, was glad that she wasn't a Pegasus: Flying outside the Sunshine Army was forbidden, and it was unimaginable how much it could be painful for a Pegasus to have her wings snatched off her body. She also felt like if the pain was driving her crazy: she wasn't able to think anymore and she felt like her soul was leaving her body.
But that's when she perceived a shadow in the distance: The silhouette wore a bright golden armor. The armor's bronze was so bright that it was blinding Trixie's eyes, and as for the other parts of the armor, the helmet was decorated by a blue crest. A blue crest.
The Resistance.
The blue has always been the Resistance's representative color while the Moonlight Rebellion adopted the color red and the Sunshine Army had the "wonderful" grey color.
But as the silhouette approached, she could, little by little, distinguish who it was. The pony had a brilliant raspberry mane and a light pink coat, but that's when Trixie saw the two light cerulean eyes hidden behind the helmet that she understood who it was:
Pinkie Pie, leader of the Resistance was here, in front of her. If it wasn't about the pain, she would have stood up and worship her, but she felt an atrocious pain at the second her hoof pushed the ground, so she lay down, looking at the pink pony with grimed eyes.
"Q-Queen P-Pinkie Pie, it's an honour for me to—"painfully started Trixie, feeling like every word she said was more excruciating than the last one.
"Just a second, Trixie:" interrupted Pinkie Pie as she took off her helmet. "First, don't say another word: I know how painful it is to lose something we cherish. And second, don't call me Queen, silly~" she said, taking a happier tone. "You're talking like if I was the leader of the Resistance, and that's true, but I don't really like it when ponies calls me like that, because, actually, I prefer to think about myself like if I'm only an ideal that my peoples want to follow, but if we really think about it, we could call me queen…" said Pinkie, fast talking that last sentence. "But anyway, you can just call me Pinkie~"
"O-Ok… But, if *painful gasp*… if I don't get up, how are we going to get to the Resistance?"
"Oh, some of the civilians are going to arrive with a carriage: I'm just here to make sure you were okay." joyfully answered Pinkie with a cheerful look that Trixie hadn't seen in years.
"I-I see… I'm honored, but I don't think I could be useful to you: I think it'll be better for you to let me die from hunger in the middle of the desert."
Pinkie laughed like if she just heard the best joke in her life.
"What? Why would I do that? You're pretty and I'm sure that you have plenty of talents!" smiled Pinkie.
"Talent? Pff… Why do you think that Celestia kicked me out of the Sunshine Army? Certainly not because I was "full of talent"… And anyway, they broke my horn, so just screw it…"
"They didn't ban you because you're useless; they banned you because they think you're useless." started Pinkie, with a serious tone. "We all have a light that shines within us; it's just that someponies don't see it. And even if you don't know where you belong, there's something that only us, the Resistance, knows about magic: The horn is not the place where the magic is, it's just a tool. The magic is in you, and the horn is only a "diluter", it makes your magic weaker."
"So why does unicorns have horns if it's harmful?"
"Just imagine if a baby unicorn was as powerful as an adult unicorn, it would be a disaster. So the horn just makes the world safer. But there's another reason why unicorns have horns: When you broke a unicorn's horn it shortens his or her life. So, for your information, us, the Resistance, is keeping the secret from the other factions because maybe one day, we'll need this power to, well, resist."
"O-Oh, I see…" Trixie wanted to ask how Pinkie was going to teach her magic or what the secret to keep smiling was, but there was something more urgent she wanted to ask. "H-How is… How is life in the Resistance? When I was a Sunshine Civilian, I lived with the minimum: Poor food, poor house –if we can call it a house- and I was neglected by the others…"
"Don't worry: Nopony will neglect or reject you in the Resistance since everypony is equal, besides that, our houses are not the better, but our carpenters and architects do their best to restore and improve our town. And about the food, it depends on what our hunters catch."
"Hunters? Are they pegasi, unicorns or earth ponies?"
"They're what they want: Everypony can be what they want in the Resistance~"
"So you support the Moo… Moonlight Rebellion?" (Because of her broken horn, talking was, for Trixie, like the hardest sport she ever did: four or five words were enough to exhaust her)
"No. We don't support them, but we share the same ideals. Here, we don't trust into Unity, and we all know that Celestia started the war just because she's too selfish and stubborn to accept the fact that Luna is right, and Luna isn't better either: She started the war just because she was jealous of her sister. It's understandable since Celestia had all the attention and Luna was left into the shadow, so I think she just wanted to be the one with the brilliant idea for once. So, to answer your question, we don't trust in Luna or Celestia: we trust in ourselves and we follow what our hearts tell us to do. But that doesn't mean that we hate Luna and Celestia: We prefer to see the war like a family conflict that went too far~"
As Trixie was going to ask something else, she apperceived a carriage coming toward them. The carriage had dark blue curtains and five beautiful phoenixes were pulling it, just like it would have been in the Sunshine Army. It wasn't really different from the Sunshine Army after all: She expected the Resistance to be a miserable place, but actually, it looked like the Resistance was a quite nice place.
"Looks like the lift is here~" said Pinkie.
"Yeah…" distantly answered Trixie, looking at the blue carriage.
Well, maybe the Resistance isn't that bad after all…
