Chapter 5: Twilight: Cupcake

Previous Chapter

Author's Note:

Whoa! It's been a while since I posted a chapter, sorry. I actually wanted to finish both Twilight's and Rainbow Dash's chapters before Season 4 came out, but oh well ^^;

Quick thanks to Twilanes again for reviewing last chapter, and without further ado, here's Twilight's chapter :)

Twilight poked her head out of a doorway.

Left.

Right.

Not a baby dragon in sight.

"Spike?" she called out. No response. She was alone in her humble abode that was Ponyville's public place where many books were held, the Golden Oaks Library.

Twilight descended downstairs and continued looking for her #1 assistant. She wanted to do something, but she had to make she had a lot of time and that Spike would be gone in that time frame.

"Spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkeeeee?" Twilight called out once more. After a more minutes of looking around, Twilight happened upon a note on a table.

It read:

Twilight,

Went out to run some errands.

Be back in a few hours.

Love,

Spike

The Element of Magic smiled, she had found her opportunity and was now about to take it.

She lit up her horn and in an instant, all the books on the shelves fell to the ground.

"This'll be fun!" she laughed a little and rubbed her forehooves together, as she began making a contraption out of books.

A few hours later, Spike arrived home, humming a familiar tune while carrying some groceries with one arm.

"…and magic makes in all complete!" He added to his tune. With his free claw, he opened the door to the library. The baby dragon did not expect his next sight.

"What the…!?"

Spike dropped his groceries bags and couldn't believe the sight before him within the library. It was a castle, entirely made up of stacked books. Right smack dab in the middle of the living room.

"TWILIGHT!" Spike yelled, clenching his claws.

Said pony appeared before Spike, but atop a balcony, also made entirely out of books.

"What is this? I thought you were gonna go out to Sweet Apple Acres?!"

Twilight frowned, "I did already, but I came home and got bored after studying a little bit!"

"What?!" Spike exclaimed, "Since when do you get bored studying? You major in it!"

All Spike could think of at the moment was why is Twilight acting out of character. Could it be that's she's a changeling?! Nah.

"Twilight, you're acting weird, please come down?"

"No, I'm staying in book castle forever!" Twilight exclaimed, stomping her hoof against the balcony. Due to the book castle being held by nothing but books, the force of her stomp caused the entire castle to give way.

"Whoa!" Twilight jumped away before she could get caught within the falling castle.

Spike's eyes widened at the toppling sight before him, getting closer and closer. He wanted to get out of the way, but his feet wouldn't move. He closed his eyes, waiting for the impact.

The baby dragon opened his eyes to see that he was okay and right next to the Element of Magic. Spike saw that Twilight's horn was glowing. She used a spell teleportation spell to get Spike out of the way in time.

"Are you alright Spike?" Twilight wondered.

"Yeah, no harm done." said Spike, brushing off his shoulder.

"Okay, well, sorry about all this."

"Don't worry Twilight, let's clean this up and just forget about this mess, alright?"

"I'd like that." Twilight said with a grin, a really big one at that.

Spike saw this, but merely dismissed it as he went to pick up a book. When he picked up the book, he was surprised to see a familiar item underneath it.

"Um, Twilight?"

"Yes, Spike?" Twilight answered, whilst using her magic to put back an entire set of books on one shelf.

The baby dragon turned to his best friend, item in claw, followed by a soft squeak.

"Is this… Smarty Pants?"

Twilights eyes widened and in a split second, Spike became startled when Twilight suddenly teleported next to him. Before Spike could let out a shriek, he found himself being pushed to the ground.

Smarty Pants flew through the air for a second until Twilight caught her in her hooves.

Spike rubbed his forehead with his claw and looked up to see Twilight, rubbing her face with Smarty Pant's raggedy doll face.

"Uhh..." was all Spike could say at the moment.

The Element of Magic stopped what she was doing and glared at Spike, who could not think of anything to say, and thus carried on with what she was doing.

"Um, how'd you get Smarty Pants back? I thought Big Mac kept her?" Spike finally asked.

"Well..." Twilight thought.

"You know she's not a tree, right?" Twilight asked Applejack.

"No! Fluttershy is one of these trees! Ah know it!" The Element of Honesty responded quite loudly, she then went off and continued searching.

Twilight decided to leave Applejack be, as she had to go to Zecora's and ask her if she could make a certain something for her.

The shaman zebra was in the middle of the meditating when she heard a knock on her door. She opened it to find the Element of Magic.

"Who is this before my sight? Well, if it isn't Twilight!" Zecora said, always making a rhyme.

"Hello Zecora! I'm sorry if I interrupted anything you were doing, I just wanted to see if you could make something for me?"

Zecora shook her head, "Oh no, my dear, I was simply meditating. Now please, come inside! I do not want to keep you waiting!"

Twilight went in with a smile, a huge out at that. A smile that Zecora saw, but like what Spike would do in the future, she dismissed it as nothing.

The zebra heated up some tea while the unicorn took a seat at a table. Soon after, Zecora set down a cup of hot tea for her and Twilight on the table before taking a seat herself.

"So, tell me young one, what is it you need me to do? I will my best in order to help you!" the zebra asked and offered.

"Well, this is kinda odd but..."

Zecora leaned in, ready for an answer.

"Could you make a sleeping potion for me?"

"..."

"Zecora?"

"What a very odd notion. Tell me Twilight, for what will be the use of this sleeping potion?"

"To save a friend." Twilight said immediately, but in flat, monotone voice.

Zecora thought this would be an odd thing to ask of her, she wanted to ask why, but Twilight voice gave her the hint that she didn't want to be pressed on about it.

The zebra grabbed a few bottles of a shelf and put their contents into her cauldron. Twilight just watched, quietly, as she did so. Zecora grabbed a wooden spoon with her mouth and stirred for few minutes before speaking up.

"With this potion, the effect will be deep. But it will cause no harm, but a sleep."

"Okay..." Twilight listened.

With a few more stirs, the batch of sleeping potion was ready. Zecora put the wooden spoon away and got a big vial to empty the contents of the cauldron into.

"All done!" Zecora hoofed over the vial to Twilight, "Have fun!"

"Thank you Zecora!" The ellement of magic grabbed the vial with her mouth and rushed out of there fast, leaving the shaman's door to creak a little.

"Although not a strange pony, that one. Let's hope she doesn't have too much fun." Zecora said flatly.

Twilight dashed her way through the Everfree Forest, trotting past a bunch of a tangled vines, the Poison Joke plants, and even through a herd of Timberwolves. They paid no mind to her as she was too fast for them to make her out in their eyes.

After a minute or two of running nonstop from Zecora's hut, Twilight was out of the Everfree Forest. She looked around and Sweet Apple Acres came into view.

'No sign of Applejack anymore, but she's not the pony I'm looking for at the moment' she thought to herself.

Twilight looked around some more until...

'Aha!'

Her eyes found a certain red stallion with a orange mane and a big green apple cutie mark.

Just the pony she was looking for.

Said stallion was bucking one of the many apple trees in the West Orchard, having taking over his sister's duties for the day as she was getting ludicrous. She kept mumbling about Fluttershy being a tree.

Twilight approached only male of the Apple Family in Ponyville just as he finished his current tree with a "Eeeyup!" He stopped upon seeing Twilight going towards him.

"Howdy there Twilight!" he greeted, wiping away the sweat on his forehead with his hoof. "What brings you here?"

"Hello there Big Macintosh! I was wondering if I could talk to you?" she asked.

"Sure, ah was just about to take mah break right about now, actually. Would ya like to join me inside for a drink?" Big Mac offered.

'Perfect.' Twilight thought inside her mind.

"I'd love too!" she responded outside.

Inside the Apple Family Residence, Big Mac was preparing some apple juice for him and Twilight while she sat at the table.

Big Mac came out of the kitchen with two bottles of apple juice. "Lemme just get those apple fritters and we'll talk." He set down the drinks on the table before heading back into the kitchen.

While his back was turned, Twilight saw a window of opportunity. Quickly, she opened the vial and emptied its contents into Big Mac's juice. She quickly mixed it with the straw. Twilight quickly regained her posture and took herself back to her seat, remaining unfazed, as if nothing happened the past few seconds. A few seconds later, Big Mac came out of the kitchen with a plate full of apple fritters and sat down at the table.

"So, what was it that ya wanted to talk about, Twilight?" Big Mac asked, taking a drink of his apple juice.

"Well, remember when I casted that one spell that made almost everypony want my doll?" Twilight asked.

"Smarty Pants." Big Mac answered in a heartbeat.

"Oh, you remember!" Twilight replied to happily.

Big Mac closed his eyes, and took a long drink of his apple juice.

"Ya can't 'ave her." He responded, opening his eyes, and his apple juice almost fully gone.

"Oh, yes I will!" Twilight put her two front hooves on the table, standing up now.

"How do ya plan on doing that?!" Big Mac mimicking Twilight's previous gesture.

"Because the potion will take action any second now!"

"Potion? What pot-" *splat*

"Applejack! Big Mac! Ahm home!" Applebloom called out upon opening the front door.

The Cutie Mark Crusader was then met with Twilight, who was holding Smarty Pants with her muzzle.

"Oh, hi Twilight! I see you got Smarty Pants, I guess that means Big Mac gave her up?" Applebloom asked.

"Um, yeah, he gave her up!" Twilight answered nervously. She just wanted to get out of here. "Oh, by the way, your brother was really tired from working today. So, he told me to just get Smarty Pants and leave."

"Oh, well, ah don't wanna keep you!" Applebloom held out the door for Twilight. "Have fun!"

"Thank you Applebloom!" Twilight dashed off for home, like she did earlier that day in the Everfree Forest.

Applebloom smiled as she closed the door. She made her way to the kitchen until she stopped to see her brother, face first in the plate full of apple fritters.

"Big Mac!" Applebloom yelled. "Not again!"

Spike just stared at Twilight as she finished her story.

"Why couldn't you just ask him?" Spike asked.

"Because i wanted to use the potion." Twilight answered.

"Why didn't you just use magic or a spell?" Spike asked again.

"That would make everything too easy, I wanted to be sneaky and have fun! But I broke cover near the end" Twilight scratched the back of her head with her hoof.

Spike continued to stare at her, dumbfounded.

Twilight took noticed of this and sighed, "You know what Spike, why don't take the day off? You've already done your chores, so you deserve it."

Spike shook his head to get back his normal face, "But what about these books, Twilight?"

Twilight shook her head back at him, "All my fault, but nothing a little magic could solve!" She then lit up her horn, "Now, go."

"Alright." Spike said as he left through the front door. Not even one step forward, he was greeted by Pinkie Pie.

"Hiya there Spike!" she greeted, bouncing up and down.

"Oh, hi there Pinkie! What brings you here?" the baby dragon asked.

"I just wanted to see if Twilight tried the cupcake I gave her earlier!"

"Cupcake?"

"Yeah, it's a rainbow cupcake, and with each color has different amounts of sugar in them! It's our most sweetest cupcake ever! I thought I'd let Twilight test it out since I heard that sugar is good for the mind and Twilight uses her a lot, so I thought it'd be good for her!"

"Oh, well, that explains Twilight's behavior right now. At least she wasn't a changeling." Spike said to himself. "So, rainbow cupcake?"

"Yup! Speaking of rainbow, have you seen Rainbow Dash?"
