Chapter 1: Moonbeam of Disharmony

The sun was light, and the moon was darkness. Where do I belong? That question remained unanswered. My name is Moonbeam, and I am a female Pegasus with dark blue eyes, a sky-blue coat, and a light purple mane. I still haven't completely uncovered my destiny, even though I already had my cutie-mark. My cutie-mark was a full-moon with a pencil next to it, which looks like it had been drawn on, because I was a creative pony. As you might have already guessed, I was alone, because, believe it or not, I had no family, no friends, and not even a pet. I was homeless, and the only company I ever got was a dark, gloomy, unresponsive cloud. I looked up into the night sky, which looked beautiful, as always; because I like darkness more than light, to lurk in the shadows unseen…

In a second, I find myself in a forest, with my head stuck in the dirt. I managed to yank my head back out, only to find my cloud destroyed by a manticore. "Great…" I muttered, as I walked through this strange area. You see, I haven't flown in a while, so I had to get used to it. I stretched my wings a little bit, and then practised flapping them. I started to trot while I was flapping my wings, and surprisingly, I was lifted into the air, slowly. I was only 15 centimetres above the ground, and examining the strange plants and animals that moved around. I already started to enjoy this place, until a saw a river with gushing water. I turned around and flew another 25 centimetres above the ground. I heard something whimper to my right, and turned to look at what it was. "I wanna go home! I'm sorry, big sis! I should've listened to you!" cried a little filly with a red-bow tie in her hair.

Applebloom felt something breathing on her neck, and started screaming "HELP ME!" I stroked her fur, and it seemed to have calmed her a bit. "I'm not going to hurt you." I said soothingly. "Can you help me?" She whimpered. "Excuse me, but why are you so scared? It's not scary at all." I said, placing her on my back and flying as high as I could go. The moon illuminated me, so Applebloom could see what I looked like. "Wow, you're pretty! Miss, miss… Sorry, what's your name?" She asked. "My name is Moonbeam." I said, keeping my neutral face on, and flying to a close town. Applebloom hopped of my pack, and started walking. "Here you go, little one. Have a safe journey." I called after her. I never really smiled, so it would be hard to make me happy, because I don't really show much emotion. I trotted back to the forest, and slept under a tree; and that night, I had just made my first ever friend; but that wasn't enough to make me smile.

I was hungry; starving, to be exact. That little girl lived in this town somewhere, I just knew it. I wanted to check on her, to make sure she made it home, but I couldn't think straight with an empty stomach, and I didn't have any cash; that is, until I found three bits on the ground. "YES!" I squealed in pride, as I trotted down the street. I walked over to a little purple-maned Pegasus, who was walking in circles, and was worrying about something. I ignored her worrying and asked her one simple question: "Excuse me, but would you happen to know where food is sold here, you see, I'm sorta new here." "*squeak* at the barn, follow the right path and you'll find it straight away…" She said. "What's your name?" I asked her. "Scootaloo" "Why are you so worried!" "My friend disappeared yesterday, and I haven't heard from her!" She panicked. "Do you mean that one with red hair?" I asked. "yeah… How did you know?" "Don't worry, she's fine!" I said calmly. "O-okay." She stuttered.

I walked along the narrow path, until I found this apple-stand which said "Apples for 1 bit!" I walked up to the stand, in hope to find something to eat. Now I was so hungry I thought that I would have collapsed. "LOOK SISTER! That's the pony who saved me!" I heard a familiar voice say. "Oh, hello there, little one!" I said, relieved she was safe. "Thank you so much for saving her, miss…" Applejack trailed off. "Her name's Moonbeam!" Applebloom shouted. "Yes, miss Moonbeam! Are you ok? You don't look so good…" Applejack said, concerned. "Yeah, I'm just really hungry… Could I have three apples please?" I asked, and put the bits on the bench. "Oh, you don't need to pay! You saved my sister here, Applebloom's life. And you're new in these parts, anyway. Here you go!" She said happily, and handed me three apples for free. "So, what's your name?" I asked the farm pony. "Name's Applejack! Nice to meet you!" She said, shaking my hoof. "Have a nice day!" I said politely and walked off. To be honest, I've never smiled in my life, or felt happiness, or any positive feelings, until I saved Applebloom. "Woah! Two friends in one day!" I thought to myself, taking a big bite out of my apple.

After I had finished my breakfast, I flew up and sat on a cloud, bored. I thought about living here, since all of these ponies seemed friendly; all except one. "Hey, you! Get off that cloud! I'm trying to do my job here!" Yelled a rainbow-maned Pegasus. "Beat it." I muttered. "That was very rude of you!" She said arrogantly. "Well, it's even ruder when you speak to a pony who doesn't even know where she is!" I yelled at her and flew back to the ground. "What a jerk…" I thought to myself as I walked to a fountain, and sat onto a bench. Now my mood was bad, again. "Why don't you turn that frown, upside down!" A pink pony said in a high-pitched voice. "HI! I'M PINKIE PIE! Are you new here? Let's throw a party! WOOO!" She screamed at the top of her lungs, trying to make me feel better. "Thanks, but no-thanks." I said, not accepting the offer. And grumpily walking to a large tree-house. *knock knock knock* "Hello? Is anypony home?" I called. I knocked again, this time harder. "Hello?" I called again. No response. This town didn't seem so great after all…

I sadly turned around when somebody opened the door quickly and greeted me. "Um, hello there!" She said, making a smile. "Oh, I see that you are new here! My name is Twilight Sparkle, Princess Celestia's faithful student, as if you didn't know!" Twilight said cheerfully. "Say what now?" I said, dumbfounded. "Um, never mind. Is there anything you need? You look terrible!" "Really?" I asked. "When was the last time you looked in the mirror?" She questioned me, curiously. "A what?" I asked. "A MIRROR!" She said, showing me a small mirror I could hold. "What does it do?" I asked. "Don't you know what a mirror is?" She asked. "I don't, actually. I've been homeless all of my life!" I admitted sadly. "Do you have a home now?" Twilight asked. "No." "Stay with me, you'll be a lot safer." Twilight offered. "Ok." I said.

It was 4:15am, and I knew I couldn't stay here; It was just….too NICE for comfort…. I wanted to be in the shadows. As soon as I thought of that, the moon in my cutie-mark got a lot darker, and highlights were in the middle of it, forming a star in the moon. "So, is my destiny darkness?" I thought to myself. Oh well, I liked the sound of it anyway, so I stepped outside of the house, and ran back to the Everfree forest. I smiled for once, and I was actually happy! I have found out my complete destiny! If this cutie-mark said "Darkness", then does that mean evil? I don't even care! Nopony cares for me anyway! If I got in trouble for criminal acts, I would actually get some attention! Just the thought of it made me smile.

Twilight's POV

Ugh… it's now 8:55am… Wait, where is Moonbeam? And why can't I hear anything? I looked outside the window to check. "Oh yeah! Heehee! I had earplugs on so Spike wouldn't disturb me in my sleep again!" I giggled. Everything seemed fine, until a meteorite fell from the sky.

Me: Dun-dun-dun! Chapter two in progress!

Twilight: Can we just get with the story?

Sonic: Yeah, my butt is sore from sitting all day!
