Chapter 1: Griffons Empire: The Rise

"Are her eyes open yet?"

"Hush now! They will open when she is ready to open them, Tiberius. Let your daughter ready herself... You can't urge these things."

A defeated sigh broke the dou vocals that disturbed the silence of the nest, twigs and leaves crackling gently beneath the stirring of the male Griffon as he shifted on his feet, pressing closer eagerly towards the little chick that lay curled defensively against her mother.

"She's beautiful you know, Esther... Very beautiful. I wonder what color her eyes will be. She already has your feathers! I just hope she has her Fathers eyes," Tiberius rumbled as his skull dropped down onto his talons. The chick squeaked quietly as the warm body curled around her stirred, wriggling in the downy feathers she assumed her mother had plucked from her own body. The tickle of the delicate tips were somehow comforting as the she chick found relaxation amongst her surroundings despite the chatter of her parents in the night. Just the feeling of warmth and their presence was enough to lull the little Griffon back into sleep.

By the time the chick awoke again, all was silent besides the gentle howl of wind lacing through the the treetops. She stirred, miniature and weak talons gripping feebly at the twigs of the nest, gradually crawling out from her mothers side. It suddenly got cold. Very cold as she wandered farther a way from her parents side. It was a new... Feeling. The cold that caused her tiny body to suddenly tremble and she knew automatically that she didn't like it. Her talons reached forward, feeling the surface of nest as her powerful feline-like legs pushed her small body long. The nest changed, suddeny curving smoothly upwards. She squeaked curiously, and pressed against the curve, hoping it would budge and run flat again but the side only crunched again and again beneath her weight. Why wouldn't it go flat? Why was it different?

The chick and felt up along the curve, finding that it traveled farther up and over and she slowly follow it until her hands found nothing but air. She chirped and pawed out at nothing, awaiting to feel something but yet again to dismay, she felt nothing at the tips of her talons. She huffed and plopped her chin on the edge of her nest, sitting in what she felt was nothing. All she could see was black, all she knew was black.

Why? It seemed like her parents could move around much and they spoke like they could see much more than her. See. Her Father mentioned something about opening her eyes. The little chick paused, her head rising back up again as she attempted to open her eyelids. They felt heavy like they wanted to stay down but she wanted them up. She tried again and again, each time opening them just a tad until they fluttered back together. Finally they slid open with success, a pair of fresh glowing emerald orbs starring into the night.

She gasped in surprise, the dim light of the moon just gentle enough not to hurt the adjusting gaze of the little Griffon. She looked upwards, her neck craning as she peered up through the branches of the tree her nest resided in, tail giving a little whip as her beak dropped open. She looked down towards the two silhouette that layed opposite of her, two giant sleeping shapes in te night. One a light grey in the darkness and the other a dark brown that nearly blended in with the darkness if it weren't for the streams of moonlight that danced over the male Griffons body.

Were these her parents? The chick crawled towards them, eyes wide as her talons reached out to paw curiously at one of their exposed limbs. Her result was a little stirr, a little sign of life in her parents. She pawed harder and crawld closer, hoping to get even more.

"Mmmff... Mm... What it is, Esther?" The voice was male, deep and mesermizing and she assumed that this was her Father. "I'm not doing anything," a voice answered, this time the vocals and light like a tinkle of bells. Her Mother. What did her voice sound like? Her beak fell open, a loud chirp spilling from her throat. The chick winced, chirping again, confused on why she sounded like this. Little did she know that she had attracted the attention of her parents both of which starred at the little Chick, her eyes fully open in the night time world.

"Her eyes are open! Her eyes are open! Oh look Tiberius, she does have your eyes!" The chick squeaked as Esther pulled her close, nuzzling the mess of feathers that lay ontop of the chicks head. Her eyes flicked back open, starring up at two eager faces that seemed to be beaming with pride and joy. "They are my eyes," Tiberius rumbled in delight, leaning forward to nuzzle the top of the chicks head. "You know what comes now... Chicks have to be named right after their eyes are open." Tiberius nodded, shifting in his place, "Is it the one we discussed?"

"Yes it is... Her name will be Vacuna."
