Chapter 1: Alicorn Immortality

Alicorn Immortality

Ponyville, Equestria

Princess Celestia let out a sigh of relief. The season 3 finale had gone off without a hitch. True things did seem a little rushed at the end but when only given a thirteen episode season and a twenty two minute timeslot in which to fit it the writers did the best they could under the circumstances. What with the budget slashes and the marketing department clamping down on the brand name it was a wonder the fandom survived at all.

"Ah well. True Fighting is Magic and MLP Online were taken down but at least we have the new toyline and comic to hold us over." Celestia said with a smile.

As the princess of the sun trotted down the rural streets of ponyville she had to admire just how beautiful the world they lived in was. Bright pastel colors brought the streets and structures to life. The bright baby blue sky framed against the backdrops of fluffy clouds and majestic mountains never ceased to make her amazed at its magnificence.

The citizens of Ponyville walked about in an independent and lively manner unlike most other cartoons. Each had their own mane style, eye color and cutie mark. Thanks to the fandom at large each and every citizen got his or her own name, personality and traits. Some even had entire families created merely by a loving and adoring fanbase. This made them feel appreciated where-as in other cartoons they would be just faces in the backdrop without a destiny or life their own. A blank slate.

Celestia couldn't imagine a worse fate.

Speaking of background ponies. Celestia waved and giggled as a pegasus flew by, her golden eyes crossed at very odd angles. Derpy Hooves also known as Ditzy Doo. The apple of the fandom's eye. The clumsy mailmare with a love for muffins and proud mother of two darling children. Starting as an animation error in the background of the first episode the fan community embraced her and created a community all its own around her. Her name was synonymous with the fandom even going so far as to be officially recognized by the creators and the company.

True her speaking role in season 2 had been edited after concerns were voiced about her name possibly being insulting. However this did not stop from Derpy being inserted into the rest of the season. When season 3 came around people had voiced concern that she had been edited out entirely. That is until some people had been paying very close attention and had caught glimpses of their favorite pegasus including the season finale in which she winked at the audience.

Derpy was heard proclaiming loudly that she had achieved 'True Waldo status'.

Chuckling the princess continued on towards her destination. Golden Oaks Library, the home of her beloved student and newly crowned princess Twilight Sparkle. With season 4 having a full 26 episode run she was sure her student was overjoyed at the prospect of being a princess. She could imagine the young alicorn's active imagination trying to think of the new story arcs in store for her and her friends. Like who would be the new villain, which one of their old friends would show up, what were the challenges ahead of them, would the cutie mark crusaders' get their cutie marks?

Celestia beamed. It was going to be a long eight months but she was sure her and her subjects would be happy and enjoy the future ahead of them. With a toss of her mane and a hoof outstretched she opened the library doors.

Pain.

That was all she felt. Just an indescribable amount of pain.

The former unicorn whimpered and tucked her legs underneath her small body. She placed the blanket over her fragile form careful to make sure she tucked them against her sides. The sources of her pain, the things which she now dreaded to look at.

'Awesome a new flying buddy!' her friend had exclaimed at their revelation.

"Oh Rainbow Dash if you only knew the truth" She mewled.

Shivering she closed her eyes and tears began to form. When it had first happened she had been overjoyed at the change. Her friends had been ecstatic and her parents simply delighted. She had never seen her mentor so proud of her.

The coronation had been lovely, the entirety of Equestria had turned out to see the arrival of the new princess. Of the new Alicorn princess.

Alicorn.

Gone was the body she was born with. The perfect four legged single horned body was gone. She would never be a unicorn again. No more would she trot happily down the streets of ponyville occasionally breaking out into song. Never again would she use her special talent to help her and her friends solve problems or remedy a situation. It will never be the same.

She had changed.

Oh but if she only knew the consequences of her actions. If only she had realized what she was getting into. The anguish and heartbreak she had set herself up for. Never would she have touched Starswirl the bearded's notebook. Her encounter with Sombra would have never come to pass. The elements of harmony would have stayed dormant back in the castle of the royal pony sisters. She would have never touched that exam for the entrance into Celestia's school of gifted unicorns, never have gone to the summer sun celebration.

It had changed everything.

Now she would be forced to endure untold heartache. Having to watch as everything she loved and held dear faded away like grains of sand upon a pounding shore. They would be gone forever. She, she would remained unchanged as the world moved on around her.

This was her fate. As a princess. As a ruler of Equestria. To be an eternal guardian.

She was immortal.

Immortal.

Covering her head with her new wings she sobbed. The tears flowed as she hugged her pillow tightly to her body. This was her life now. A life she didn't want. It just wasn't fair. It wasn't fair!

"Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, Applejack, Shining Armor, Mom and Dad. I'm so sorry. I didn't know what I was doing I'm sorry! It wasn't my fault I'm sorry!" she wailed cradling her body and rocking back and forth.

"I'M SO SORRY!" she cried aloud in anguish.

"Twilight?" a voice called.

The purple alicorn lifted her head at the sound of the voice. Squinting through her tears she saw the blurry outline of a large white mass. Blinking a few times the image formed to show soft eyes staring down at her. Eyes full of concern and worry.

Her teacher Princess Celestia.

Instantly a white forehoof reached out and stroked her mane softly. The larger princess pulled her close to her chest. Wrapping her front limbs gently around the smaller alicorn Celestia lifted Twilight's head and looked into her eyes.

"Twilight. My student, my friend. Whatever is the matter?" she asked.

The younger alicorn looked away. Ashamed to bother her mentor with her grief and anguish. Celestia would have none of that however.

"Twilight. Please. I want to help you." Celestia pleaded gently.

Twilight Sparkle looked back up into Celestia's gentle eyes. The soft fushia met the brilliant jade and she couldn't hold it in. Sinking her head into her teacher's chest she sobbed.'

"I don't want to be immortal."

"What?" Celestia asked confused.

"Alicorns are immortal... I don't want to be immortal." Twilight said with tears streaming down her face. "I don't want to live on while my friends and family pass on. I don't want to stay young while they grow old and die."

Celestia frowned staring at her young student.

"Who said Alicorns are immortal, that all Alicorn's are immortal?" Celestia questioned.

"Aren't you immortal?" Twilight asked curiously.

"Not insofar as my knowledge Twilight." Celestia said puzzled.

"But. People are saying I'm immortal now that I'm an Alicorn." Twilight responded to her mentor "That I'm going to live on forever."

"Twilight Sparkle. My dearest Twilight. That's nonsense." Celestia said.

"What?" Twilight said looking at her with a dim glimmer of hope in her eyes.

"Nowhere in the series itself does it say that Alicorns are immortal. Not in any three seasons. That is something the fans speculated. It has never been confirmed by the creators, or the company that we are immortal. The only thing that even alludes to any hint of it is my profile which says 'I'm so wise I am over one thousand years old'." Celestia said.

"But how could you live so long if you aren't immortal?" Twilight asked.

"Maybe I used Magic? Maybe Luna and I use our magic to sustain ourselves by choice? Maybe I used my powers to live long enough to see my sister released from the moon? Perhaps we are aliens? There are many alternatives and solutions to my longevity my student." Celestia said with a smile.

"So I don't need to worry?" Twilight said, a smile beginning to form.

Celestia laughed hugging the young alicorn close.

"Not only do you not need to worry, neither does the fanbase. You have a bright future ahead of you Twilight Sparkle. A future we are all eager to take part in." Celestia said smiling down at Twilight.

Twilight returned the smile and both turned their heads to look out the window eager for what the new day would bring.

AN: This is more or less a response to the fears that Twilight's change will turn her immortal. As stated nowhere in official canon does it say Celestia and Luna are immortal. Fan theory and speculation is what spawned the Alicorn Immortality and it is just that. Speculation.

Choose to believe what you want as far as Alicorns go. But for anyone who is worried that this will definetly happen don't be afraid it won't. Also let's be honest with ourselves.

Would they really pull the Immortality card on a demographic which they'd consistently stated is not the Brony fandom but the little girls who buy their playsets?

Keep strong Bronies and Pegasisters. The future is a bright one.
