My mother sighed and ran a hoof through her constantly flowing pastel colored mane. "And I've told you, a prince of Equestria needs to do something besides spending every waking moment guarding his mother with a job he made for himself."

That's right. I am the son of Princess Celestia herself, co-ruler of Equestria and sister of the Sun. My name is Prince Blackwing Arcanum Astronos, but I prefer just being called Blackwing. Unfortunately, nopony calls me that except for my two friends, mother, and my aunt Luna. I've never met my father. According to mother, he left her when he found out she was carrying me. It's also true I made a job for myself. I am Mother's self-appointed bodyguard. After my cousin Cadence was kidnapped and replaced by the Changeling queen, I've been on high alert protecting Mother. I want to prevent a similar thing from happening.

Unfortunately, Mother wants to make me give up everything I've worked for and send me off to Ponyville to oversee the preparations for the Summer Sun Festival. "You're going, and that's Final." Mother's snowy coat was starting to flush with her anger. "Also, try to make some new friends. You can't just hang out with Riost all the time."

Knowing I couldn't win, I gave in. "Fine." This was not going to end well.
