His Little Dashie: Childhood Saga

by Natokonic Dash

Chapter 10: Welcome to the Herd

Previous Chapter

Hello again! It's been a while, but it's finally done! This is the last chapter of the saga, and I promise that this is the last one of those cuteness overload chapters before the real action begins. This chapter is literally twice as long as others, so I hope it's worth the wait. For the final chapter of the childhood saga... enjoy!

Goku's eyes begin to open as the morning rays of the sun penetrate his pupils. He finds himself looking at the ceiling above him, and the memories from yesterday reach him like a speeding bullet. This followed with the many questions that come to his mind. Where did that mark come from? What is the mark for, and why is it there? Is it a part of who Rainbow is? Why didn't she have the mark when she was born? Does it have to do with the Sonic Rainboom that she performed, or does it tell her destiny? Then, another question has come to his mind, and this is a question that was in the back of his mind ever since he met the mare as a little filly. Where in the world did she come from?

He decides to save these questions for later. It's better to wait for the answers to reveal themselves then to ponder on them. Goku sits up from bed and yawns as he stretches his arms toward the ceiling. He then notices that something's missing. He turns his head to the other side of the bed to find that no one is there. Goku's now confused. Chichi doesn't leave until nine on Saturdays in order to run some errands. That's when it hits him.

"What time is it?" Goku asks himself. He turns to the clock on the wall next to the bedroom door. His eyes widen. "Oh my Kami, it's ten already?!" He jumps out of bed and goes straight to the bathroom. "I really overslept this time."

He immediately jumps into the beginning of his morning routine; take a shower, dry himself off, and brush his own teeth. After that, he walks out of the bathroom, with a towel on, and heads toward the closet. He opens it to find all of his clothes, which are only the many copies of his orange gi uniform. He rubs his thumb under his chin as he says to himself, "Hmm, there are so many choices." He grabs a random gi and continues, "This one should do."

After he gets dressed, Goku looks at the clock again to find that it's twenty minutes past ten. He wanted to get ready quick so that he had time to train with Rainbow. Goku then looks outside the bedroom window. A huge, ominous storm cloud can be seen about ten minutes from his exact location. "It's a good thing that Rainbow knows her weather."

Rainbow Dash is an amazing weather forecaster. Every prediction that she has made was correct, and she can make any weather channel run for their money. Chichi once ignored her warning when she said that a huge storm was rushing in and it was going to arrive in a few hours. Her mother watched her favorite weather channel and it said that there were going to be perfect skies all day, so she went with that and took her family out for a picnic. Let's just say that Chichi was relieved that Rainbow brought a tent.

When Rainbow said yesterday that another storm was coming today, Goku was thrilled. Since Rainbow can manipulate the weather, the cloud could be a great use for training. That's when it hit him; the mark. Rainbow's mark consists of a thunder cloud and three lightning bolts. "Is that what the mark relates to?" Goku thinks to himself, "Is her special talent related to …weather?" It makes since, so Goku puts that as his best theory. Along with that, he smiles to himself. "It must be really cool to have that power. Man, the endless amount of pranks I can pull on Krillin."

Suddenly, he sees something outside his window that he doesn't expect at the time. A rainbow blur is spotted and can be seen in sky, flying away from the house. Goku realizes it the moment he sees it. It's Rainbow Dash. "Hey, Rainbow!" Goku yells at her, "Where are you going?!" It seems that she didn't hear him since she didn't stop or turn her head. Instead, she just kept on going until she couldn't be seen. This confuses her dad. "She must have heard me," Goku mutters, "But why didn't she answer back?" There was only one way to find out.

Before he went off after her, Goku opens his bedroom door and sprints down the stairs for any clue on why she left. When he's there, Goku glances around the perimeter, and so far has no luck of finding anything. He decides to roam into the kitchen, and there he finds Rainbow's favorite box of cereal on the counter. Rainbow always has the habit of waking up around this time and eating breakfast. Goku smiles to himself, "Now I know how she feels." Goku felt more rested this morning than usual since he wakes up a lot earlier. However, when it comes to breakfast, it can wait; finding Rainbow is more important to him.

Goku hears murmurs from the TV in the living room, so Gohan is probably in there. "Maybe he knows where she went," Goku reasons with himself. He starts to walk to the room, but stops in his tracks. At the entrance of the room, he finds a bowl, toppled over with spilled milk and cereal on the ground. It's Rainbow's bowl. Goku walks over and picks up the bowl with a confused look on his face. "Rainbow would never waste such perfect food," He thinks to himself.

"Wings, don't fail me now."

"Huh?" Goku responds to the phrase from the TV in the room right in front of him. To him, it sounded like Rainbow, but a lot older than twelve years of age. Goku walks into the room, and immediately finds Gohan staring straight at the television with disbelief. Goku then looks at the TV, and he quickly finds out why. On the TV screen, a white pony with long, purple hair, what seems to be a dress, and large, colorful wings is flying towards the sky until her body seems to be right in front of the sun. The thing that hit Goku the most was the animation; its cartoony texture looks the same as Rainbow Dash's.

There's a sudden close up of the pony, and the pony seems to be sweating. "Look upon me Equestria," the pony speaks, "For I…am…Rarity!" She raises her hooves toward the sky, and suddenly, her wings bring out beautiful shades of blue, pink, green, yellow, and purple toward a coliseum that's somehow flying in midair. The screen shots to a few ponies that stare at it in delight, and the crowd seems to be gasping at the sheer beauty of the dazzling colors. Goku looks at the screen in amazement. It's not as beautiful as the Sonic Rainboom that Dash can create, but it's definitely up there.

Then the next scene came. Her wings are burning; she's too close to the sun. Goku watches as at first, the flying pony is showing of the shining colors coming from her wings, but then her wings suddenly caught on fire and turn to ashes. "What the?" is the only way that Goku can respond. The pony's, Rarity's, eyes widen and looks behind to find her luscious wings gone.

"Uh oh," is all she can say before she screams as she's plummeting towards the ground.

"Oh no!" a purple unicorn responds as her face is on the screen, "Her wings have evaporated into thin air!"

After Rarity falls through the coliseum, a group of pegasi in blue jumpsuits with lightning designs flies down to catch the falling unicorn and save her life. However, Rarity is flailing her hooves as she's falling, so when the group of pegasi reaches her, she manages to knock them all out by hitting them square in the face. Goku smiles at this. "Owned," he thinks to himself, but then a question comes to his mind. He thinks, "Wait…is she going to die?"

Then came the next scene, and it showed a different pony. Goku's expression to when he met Rainbow Dash for the first time can never beat this. Every system in his body seems to just stop. It's so severe that he almost drops the bowl in his hand. A familiar cyan pegasus with a rainbow mane and rosy eyes is flying towards the sky. She's definitely Rainbow Dash, and she's definitely her older version.

She looks down to find the group of ponies that are falling to there death, and her eyes widen from the scene. She immediately stops flying and as she reverses direction and heads straight downward, and she yells, "Hold on Rarity, I'm coming!" Rainbow is seen chasing after the falling group, and Rarity is still screaming. In the next scene, a yellow pegasus with long, pink hair covers her eyes and says, "I can't look."

Rainbow is watched in the next scene, as she starts to speed up in order to reach the group. Then there is a cone. A cone surrounds Rainbow; Rarity, and a group of four ponies in the coliseum gasp from this. Two of these ponies are the purple unicorn and the yellow pegasus. Goku realizes what's going on. "Wait…" He murmurs. The screen goes back to Rainbow, whose mach cone is now getting smaller and the mare is going much faster.

Then, it happens. In a burst of speed, Rainbow Leaves behind a trail of rainbow colors and a layer of these colors start to cover the sky. As Goku's mouth gapes, the ponies in the coliseum stare at it in shock and wonder. The screen goes to the group of four ponies from before, and the purple, pink, and orange ponies have their jaws dropped and their eyes wide. Then there's the yellow one. Even though the pegasus sounded soft at first, she's now jumping up and down and screaming, "A SONIC RAINBOOM! SHE DID IT! SHE DID IT! WHOA!"

When Goku hears these words, he drops the bowl. He can't respond to what he's seeing. The character in the show is definitely supposed to be Rainbow Dash. Her color, her flying, the Sonic Rainboom, and Goku can even picture the mare having that voice when she grows up. Man, Goku can only imagine how Rainbow could react- "Oh my Kami, RAINBOW!"

Gohan comes back to reality and looks over to find his dad sprinting straight towards the front door. "Daddy!" he yells.

After he opens the door, Goku turns his head to Gohan and replies, "Stay here. I'll go and find Rainbow."

"But-." Before Gohan could finish, his dad slams the door behind him.

Goku runs off the property and then yells to the sky as loud as his lungs can handle, "NIMBUS!" The yellow cloud rushes towards him moments later and stops right in front of him. The cloud wonders what his friend wants to do this time. Goku orders, "Watch over Gohan while I go find Rainbow Dash! Go see what's on the TV and you'll find out why!" After he says this, Goku flies off into the sky while Nimbus floats there confused. After a few moments, Nimbus decides to listen and goes inside the house to see what all the fuss was about.

Rainbow doesn't care where she's going. All she wants to do is get as far away from that house as possible. What she saw on that TV was no joke, and she wishes that it never happened. She is near the brink of tears as she flies as fast as she can through the air. "Why?" she solemnly thinks to herself, "Why would they keep that from me? Am I just a stupid cartoon character on a stupid cartoon show? They work for one of those evil government guys; they didn't care about me. None of them did." When she realizes what she said, she shook it out of her mind and continued, "No, that's not true. They love me no matter what, but then why not tell me anything about this?" She decides to lay it off. Either way, she wants to just be left alone and think, and she definitely doesn't want to hear a stupid sob story of how they love her so much; she would not be able to take it.

After a while of flying Rainbow realizes how tired she was getting, so she decides to look around for any shelter. She knew that it would be too obvious if she hides in a cloud, so that's out of the picture. After a quick glance, she spots a forest not too far away. "It's better than nothing," she convinces herself before she flies in that direction.

She flies above the forest and starts to look around. Since she knew the rain is about to pour at any minute, she needs to find a tree with thick leaves and big branches. Then she spots it; a tree that's bigger than the other in comparison and has a ton of leaves to block the rain's penetration. She flies down and enters the tree. When she does, she immediately finds a few tree branches that can support her light weight. The mare lies on top of it and finally begins to relax.

Twenty minutes later, she's still there trying to figure out how to handle the situation. The rain's pouring down hard by now, and some droplets were coming through the leaf barrier on top of her, but the pony didn't care. All she wants is to get through this without going insane. "Gohan didn't even know," she thinks, "They didn't even tell him either. I just don't get it. Is he too young to understand? Did they think he would slip the beans and tell me about it? Why hide it from him? Why hide it from me?!" She realizes that she's over her head, so she calms herself down using a deep breath.

Suddenly, she hears a chirp from not too far away. Rainbow looks over to find a lonely baby blue jay in a nest on the tree that Rainbow's on. Out of no where, a more masculine chirp can be heard from above, and an adult blue jay with a worm in its mouth lands on the nest to meet the little one. It's the baby's parent. The parent feeds the child the worm and the little blue jay rubs its head onto the bigger one's stomach. The parent blue jay responds by resting its head on the little ones back for comfort.

Rainbow's eyes begin to water and she turns away. She misses her family, mostly her dad, but she's not going to turn back now. She just doesn't feel ready for it. She starts to wonder if her dad is actually looking for her right now. "He might be. I'll try to sense his life force to see if he is." Suddenly, reality strikes her like the thunder that strikes right at that moment. Her eyes widen as she just remembers where she learned to do that from.

Her dad can sense her life energy.

A loud screech is heard from the location the blue jays are. Rainbow looks that direction to find the baby blue jay falling off the nest and toward the ground. The pony looks in horror as the bigger blue jay flies off the nest to catch its child. Immediately ready to take action, Rainbow prepares herself for a rescue.

She never had to. Before the baby bird hit the ground, a familiar figure grabs it with both of his hands and saves the blue jay's life. Rainbow's eyes widen in shock, but then it's replaced with an angry expression. In a venomous hiss, she whispers, "Dad."

Goku walks through the forest as the rain pours onto him and the nearby trees. The ground is already moist and his shoes are tracking mud, but that's only the least of his worries. Knowing that her life force is in this area, Goku is trying to think of where she could possibly be. He thinks to himself, "If I was a twelve year-old pegasus who's trying to run from my human father, where would I go? Well I would probably want to go somewhere that can block the rain, so maybe a cave or under a tree?" He then looks up at the trees above him. "No, I would probably want to go in the tree like a bird. I would probably feel safer there anyway, but which one would it be?" After a glance, Goku spots a gigantic tree with thick leaf cover and branches much bigger than the trees around it. "Definitely that one."

Goku begins his ascend towards the tree in order to make a search, but then something rather unusual happens. After a loud chirp, a baby blue jay is seen plummeting toward the ground with an adult blue jay flying behind it. Goku switches to hero mode and flies toward the bird. When he gets there, he successfully catches the baby bird softly with two hands.

When he knows he caught the bird, he carries it with one palm and flies up to the nest that he spots on top of them. When they get there, Goku places the bird inside and says, "There you go little guy. Don't fall off your nest like that anymore, alright." He then smiles when he sees both blue jays comfort each other, and he hears something mutter from his left. Goku turns to find what he was hoping for. He's met with an angry looking pegasus that seems to not want him there, and it's obvious that her eyes were watery, but he's just glad that she's alright.

"Hey there Rainbow," Goku speaks first.

"Leave me alone," Rainbow replies as she's about to fly off.

"Wait!"

Rainbow stops and looks at him. "Why should I?"

"I just want to talk."

There's a moment of silence, but then Rainbow breaks it with a question. "How long… have you known about this?"

"What?" Goku replies with a confused expression.

The pissed off pony goes straight up to his face and yells, "How long have you known about that stupid show?! How long have you known about me just being another stupid cartoon pony?! How long have you kept me from knowing anything about any of this!?"

Goku looks at her in disbelief, but then he realizes what she means. She's not just upset about her being part of a cartoon. She's upset because she feels betrayed by him for not telling her about this since she thinks that he knew about it before hand. "I've never heard about that show in my life until today," he answers.

"Don't you dare lie to me!"

"Have I ever lied to you about these things before?" Rainbow's anger almost fades from her expression when he says this and she backs away. Goku continues, "Believe me when I say this. If I ever knew about it, I would've told you years ago. Think about it. I still don't know what that mark is called on your flank, and I don't even fully know what it means. I would never be that low-leveled of a person that would not tell you and let you feel heart broken if you found out in another way. However, I do know one thing." Rainbow is looking at him in wonder as he continues, "You're not just a cartoon. You're much, much more. You're a strong, caring, brave young mare who teaches me as much as I teach her, but most importantly…" Goku pauses for a second and smiles before finishing. "You're my daughter, and I will always love you no matter what."

Rainbow can't hold it in anymore. Her eyes begin to water, and then they burst into tears as she reaches for Goku and hugs him around his neck. Under a lot of will power, Rainbow mutters out the words, "I'm s-so s-s-sorry! I-"

Goku didn't see this coming at first, but then he believes it. "She's probably been holding back these tears for thirty minutes now." He responds by hugging her back and whispering, "It's alright. Just let it all out."

After what seems to be five minutes, Rainbow finally manages to calm down, and so does the weather since the rain has managed to stop and the rain cloud past over. She looks up to her dad and asks, "Hey dad?"

"Ya?"

"How come you always know what to say?"

Goku smiles at this and answers, "Well, it comes naturally, I guess." At that moment, Goku realizes something. "Hey, guess what?"

"What?"

"Since there's a TV show about you in this world, what if there's a world that has a show about me and my friends on our epic adventures from the past and maybe into the future?"

Rainbow thinks about this and answers, "I bet it would be a big hit."

Her dad smiles at this and responds, "That makes since, but what would it be called?"

"Dragon ball, duh."

Goku laughs at this and replies, "Good point."

"Hey dad?"

"Yes?"

"Can we go home now? I'm in desperate need of a shower."

Goku smirks at this and says, "Now that's a first."

Both of them burst out laughing, and with a good mind-set, the duo takes off and they fly back towards their home. However, while they're flying Goku comes up with an idea. "Hey, Dash."

"Ya?" she responds

"I think it might be best if we keep on watching that show."

Rainbow quickly turns to him in disbelief and replies, "What do you mean?"

"I think that show might tells us a little about where you're from and what your race is like. If we're lucky, you might learn more about yourself."

"I doubt it."

"What do you mean?"

"When I saw it, I was messing up on the most basic skills like flying through pillars and spinning clouds. Heck, I had severe stage fright for crying out loud! Even though she looks exactly like me and we have the same name, we don't have much in common."

Goku smiles at this and says, "Really? Because when I saw it, you did a Sonic Rainboom and saved multiple ponies from falling to their death."

Rainbow gets obviously shocked by this and replies, "I did a Sonic Rainboom?!"

"Yep, and they even called it that, too." Rainbow's jaw drops from this before he continues, "We can't just base it on one scene, and I bet it has more truth to it then we realize. So, are you in?"

The mare thinks about it for a moment before finally deciding. She turns to her dad with a smirk and says, "I'm in!"

"Then it's settled, we'll watch the show from beginning to end, right?"

"Right." The mare thinks for a second before adding, "I just hope I'm as cool as you said I was."

"Hey, knowing you, I bet you'll be a hero."

"Do you think I would have some cool catch phrases?"

"I don't know, can you think of any off the top of your head?"

Rainbow shacks her head. "Nah, I don't really have a clue."

"Well, we're about to find out, aren't we?"

"Wait, we're still going to be training, right?"

"Of course, I was thinking about two hours of training, then watching as many episodes as you want."

"Sounds like a plan."

"Oh, and one more thing Rainbow."

"Ya?" Goku goes up next to her and does the unthinkable. He slaps the back of her head. "Ouch, hay, what was that for?!"

"That's what you get for wasting such a perfect bowl of cereal!"

"Oh come on dad! I have an excuse!"

"There's no excuse for wasting good food."

And so the duo continues to argue over the fallen cereal as they approach their home in the middle of nowhere. The day has been a long one. However, their story is far from over and new secrets will arise that none of them can ever predict. There lives will twist in a completely different direction, and the battles that they will face will go farther than they ever suspected; into the extraterrestrial.

Yes! I'm finally done! Btw, I might take a break from this story and write a single chapter story(I think they're called one shots, can anyone clarify?), but I promise I will start the next saga quickly. For all of those estudiantes and everyone else, HAGS(Have a great summer)!
