prologue

princess Luna's POV

It was a rather typical night. I was too young to attend the Grand Galloping Gala, so I was forced to stay in my room. I could hear the pleasant cheers of Canterlot's citizens and guests as a banquet was being brought out. I scowled, sending a shadow down my deep blue mane. I was standing at a window, letting my eyes wander out among the crowds of Ponies, unicorns, and Pegasus alike, spotting Princess Cadence, who was only a filly at one hundred years old (most royals live to be over three thousand years old) at the time like me, next to my much older sister. Ladies in beautiful gowns were nibbling at pastries and talking politely to mares in fine suits of black and white.

I, on the other hand, was not dressed up like my sister or anyone else. Why should Cadence even be out there? We are so close in age that we were only a grade in school apart, though I was in the younger one and we went to different schools. Princess Mi Amore Cadenza, as some called her, noticed me and waved and mouthed 'Hey!' I smiled and waved back, though I felt like screaming. I flopped down onto my plush bed and yelled into my pillow.

I heard my door open and could feel the glow of my sister's daytime powers closer. I tried to ignore her, though that is tough when she almost literally glows and her hair (which really does glow) gets in your face.

"Hey Celestia," I grumble flatly as she sits down next to me.

"Hello sister." She replied in that annoying, dignified air.

"Why did you come up here? Shouldn't you be down at the Gala having fun?" I spit out. I really hated my sister.

"I apologise for the sudden news, but Equestria is in mortal peril. The Elements of Harmony are needed, though they have been lost, I bellive that they reside somewhere near Ponyvile." She stated sadly.

"Wait, WHAT?! What happened that is so bad that the Elements are needed? Tell me, sister!" I added when she remained silent.

"A beast named Discord has appeared and is threatening to take away all of the peace and replace it with despair, the happiness with anger and so on."

"What can we do?" I screamed. What? I'm young. I don't handle situations very well.

"We need to find a group of six who can make what is right stay. If only I knew where to look"...
