Rainbow dash was struggling with all her might to get away from what would, in all possibility, be her doom. But it was pointless as she was pushed deeper into the crowd, to the stage where her mother would raise the sun, her light-boned, small body easy enough for careless worker ponies to push along. Luckily she was small enough and far back enough that if she scrunched down she was fairly sure the guard wouldn't see her running.
"Oh, man what am I going to do mom's going to see drag me back and I'll never see any of my friends again probably not even Twilight, if mom doesn't banish her for not telling her she found me. I've got to get out of here," She thought desperately as she frantically looked around for some way to get out of the crowd.
Then like a light from heaven, she saw an opening in the crowd. Without hesitation, she plunged forward, running for all her worth, hoping she'd be able to get back to Fluttershy's cottage before her mother arrived.
"I'm going to make it," she whispered hopefully as she saw the crowd thin out and then, encouragingly, "just a little more." Her legs began to burn as she lumbered away, trying not to collapse. She was a Pegasus, she didn't run often and wasn't very fast.
Just as she thought she was about to make it home free there was a sudden tug on her tail that threw her off balance. She landed hard with an "oomph" as she fell, looking behind her she saw Pinkie Pie bouncing on her toes, clearly strung out on sugar and more excited than usual.
"Where are you going? Silly, Bright, the celebration is the other way," she said, pulling her back by the hind legs like something out of a horror movie. And indeed that's what it felt like, a terrible, terrible movie.
Rainbow Dash struggled to her feet, looked at Pinkie, and said, "I'm not going"
"What? How could you not go? It's a once in a life time event! The festival of festivals! You can't just leave! It won't be any fun without you!" She whined, kicking her legs like a filly. Pinkie Exclaimed as she shook her.
"I'm just feeling tired I'm going to go home see you tomorrow" Rainbow dash said trying to get away from the hyperventilating pinkie.
"No, no, no, nuh-uh, nope, no siree, I'm not going to let you miss this!" Pinkie said, and with surprising strength, began dragging her back towards the crowd.
"Come one pinkie let me go" she said struggling to get away.
"Nope"
"Pinkie! Stop, please!"
"Oh please, please, please Bright come watch the sun raising with us, it'll be so much fun," Pinkie pleaded. "Everyone's going to be there!"
"That's what I'm afraid of," Rainbow Dash sighed to herself. She knew there was no way of convincing Pinkie of letting her go and fussing would only bring up more suspicion.
"Okay, Pinkie I'll go but I'm leaving right afterwards." she said.
"Yay! This so exciting!" Pinkie squealed, bouncing through the crowd of ponies.
Rainbow and Pinkie eventually found the others in a spot in the back, settled amongst a small blanket, ready for the show to begin.
"Hey there, Bright, we missed you earlier! You all ready for the show to begin?" Apple Jack questioned.
"As ready as I'll ever be" she replied, faking a smile.
"But Bright, I thought you were going to go home?" Twilight questioned, trying to figure out why the change of plans.
"I was but Pinkie here convinced me to come see the sun raising," she said, hoping the emphasis would go unnoticed by the pink-haired pony. It did, and Twilight nodded in understanding, wondering what her friend was going to do now.
"Well, hello, darlings, how have you all been?" Rarity asked, "I missed nothing too important, I hope?" she added, settling amongst the group.
"Nothing much.I've been well and you?" Rainbow Dash said, her manners once again kicking in as they made room for the purple-haired pony.
"I've been fabulous darling this festival has been great for business so many ponies coming in and all even a couple from Canterlot!" she exclaimed, voice taking on a dreamy lilt at the end.
"That's great I'm happy for you," she said with all sincerity. Rarity was a good pony, if a bit prissy and she was happy for her friends success. Suddenly trumpets blew, signaling the arrival of the Princess and, more importantly, her doom.
"Well, I had a good run," she thought as the shining carriage drew ever closer
