Author's Note: This is a non-profit fanfiction made for the sole purpose of doing something fun about one of my favorite characters in the Mass Effect series. Harbinger and Shepard belong to BioWare and My Little Pony belongs to Hasbro. Enjoy.

Chapter 11: Better Books are Better Guarded Part 2

Location: Equestria, Canterlot, Outside Book Exhibit

Time: Late Night

A guard is seen walking on a cobble road patrolling the area for any intruders. So far, no activity. He passes a bush without even sparing it a glance. As soon as he is out of range six heads poke out of the bush. It was Twilight wearing her 'Solid Sparkle' costume, minus the eyepatch. The others were wearing similar outfits, Rarity was also wearing a large peach hat, with flowers and a pink feather.

Twilight: *whispering* Rarity you're a little to flashy, couldn't you come without the hat?

Rarity: Nonsense, one must look fashionable even if they are infiltrating.

Applejack: Ya know, when ya call it infiltrating, it sounds like we're doin' a really bad thing, so ah'd preffer we call it hittin' the books, 'fore ah start changin' mah mind and go home.

Rainbow Dash: Fine, have it your way, but infiltrating sounds a lot more awesome.

Twilight: Girls, we're getting off track. *everypony turns to look at her* Ok, from what I read on the building layout, the best is if we split into three teams. Fluttershy you go with Rarity, I need you to do aerial and ground recon-

Fluttershy: Um…Twilight excuse me, but, what's recon?

Everypony nodded at the question.

Twilight: Reconnaissance? *everypony shake their heads* Surveillance? *nope* Scan the area for guards?

Everypony: Oooohhhhh!

One of the nearby guards started walking towards the bush.

Random Guard: Did you hear something?

The Mane 6 tensed believing that their cover was blown.

Random Guard's Friend: There's nothing there it's just your imagination, so get your flank over here and help me guard the area.

The mares all relaxed when the stallion walked away from them.

Random Guard:*sigh* Fine. But isn't this exactly one of those moments, where the villain infiltrates some place and the guard hears something, but his friend tells him it's nothing and they fail at capturing the culprit.

Random Guard's Friend: You watch too many spy movies, now get back to work.

Twilight: *relieved* Ok, Rainbow Dash, I need you to distract the guards for five minutes. After exactly five minutes, activate your Stealth Mode and get meet us at *points towards a tower* that tower. We'll open a window for you.

Rainbow Dash: *salutes* Got it.

Twilight: And of course, Applejack and Pinkie Pie are coming with me, I'll need Applejack's strength and Pinkie's…uhhh…skills to get past the guards.

Applejack: Ya got it, Twi.

Pinkie: Okie dokie.

Twilight: All right girls, we *pulls out a book titled 'Military Jargon for Dummies'*…oh right, head out, in three minutes and girls, thanks.

The girls nodded smiling, they placed radio transmitters in their ears and prepared to move out. There was a sudden burst of static in the radios, which cause them to jump in surprise, having to suppress some yelps. A voice, belonging to a male, came through the radio.

The Voice: I hope you're done with the sentimentalities, 'cause if you don't move out in two minutes, you won't get another chance.

Twilight: Who are you?

The Voice: Just call me Black, and like I said, move your flanks or you'll get caught.

Twilight: You're the one who sent all of this equip-

Black: Move!

Twilight: Fine, let's go.

With that they six mare headed out. Rainbow Dash flew into the sky attracting the attention of multiple guards, who started to chase her. Just as planned. The courtyard was a lot more devoid of guards than before, and lesser aerial recon meant lesser chances of being seen. Fluttershy and Rarity activated their Stealth Modes and the former took the air, while the latter hid inside a bush.

Black: Even in Stealth Mode the guards can still see you, if they get too close, so I suggest you avoid close contact.

Rainbow Dash: *through intercom* Why couldn't you give us that fancy spy-tech that makes you totally invisible.

Black: Pfft, I'm not dumb to give equipment worth tens of thousands of bits to six amateurs. I did that one, only I think they were five ducks and a mouse.*thinks for a second* Or was it a manticore, three diamond dogs and a rock. Doesn't matter, let's just say body casts weren't enough for what I did to them for breaking all of that expensive stuff.

The Mane Six gulped.

Twilight, Rarity and Pinkie reached a tall wall which they had to scale. They all lifted their hoofs and fired grappling hooks at the wall. The hooks firmly grabbed the wall and they were lifted up towards the top. They turned over to the other side and started rappelling down. Twilight didn't calculate the distance of the final push and ended up planting back first into the ground.

Black: *laughs* Oh, good lord, that was… a FAIL! I'd give that nine out of ten, just for the grace and artistism.

Twilight: SHUT UP! That hurt!

Rarity: It's not gentlecoltly to laugh at a mare in pain.

Black: Ya don't say. All right, stop whining and listen, so far things are going smooth, like jazz, but the five minutes are almost up, so best you hurry or the Rainbow one is gonna' get caught.

Rainbow Dash: Hah! As if! I could get away even without your stinkin' invisibility thingy.

Black: Don't push it or the operation's gonna be a bust. So…Infiltration Team, there's a window on the wall to your left. Operative Pinkie, give them a nice push up and jump there yourself, I'll get the window open.

Pinkie: Aye aye.

Applejack: How are ya gonna' get that window open, *window opens* from…here?

Black: I don't have time to explain, so just get up there and wait for my signal.

Pinkie linked here hooves together, turning to the window with her back. Applejack then ran towards her putting her hind-leg in the party pony's hooves. With a mighty 'oomph' Pinkie launched the farmer pony into the air, who landed nicely on the window sill. Twilight soon followed, yet she almost fell back down when she landed, but was caught by Applejack just in time. Pinkie then stood up on her hind legs, crouched and with a good push, she jumped into the air doing a somersault before landing exactly where needed.

Black: *claps* Bravo! I'd give that eleven out of ten. There's a door a floor lower, Recon Team head there and join Infiltration Team, I'll keep an eye for guard.

Rarity immediately ran for the door, but froze when a guard flashed a light in her direction.

Guard: Hey who goes there? This is forbidden territory, you're under arre-

The guard fell to the ground, a dart sticking from his back. Rarity was befuddled. Fluttershy landed on the ground holding a dart gun and walked up to the guard.

Fluttersjy: I-i-is he de-de-

Black: Nope, just unconscious. *Fluttershy sighed in relief* That was some good thinking, but head for the door, I'll hide him.

The Recon Team ran for the door, but turned around not wanting to lose an opportunity to see who was their helper. The guard was gone and nopony was in sight.

Black:*chuckles* Nice try.

Rarity: H-how did you?

Black: The door, please.

Rarity shook it off and followed Fluttershy to the door, which opened seconds later.

Pinkie: Rarity, Fluttershy, you came just in time for the party, this is so fun.

Twilight: I'm glad you're okay.

Rarity: I was nearly caught, but Fluttershy, was a dear and saved me.

The yellow Pegasus blushed at the compliment.

Black:*sigh* I'm not one for ruining a touching Rainbow Pegasus just broke of from pursuit and she's flying towards the window. You have fifty seconds till the she reaches it at her speed, and for you to get to the fifth floor and open the window.

Applejack: Then we 'ave tah hurry, let's go.

They ran for the staircase as fast as their hooves could carry them. Applejack went on ahead, they ran up the stairs, surprisingly not tripping in the process. They finally reached the fifth floor and they noticed the window they had to open. Applejack went up to the window and pulled it, the window didn't budge.

Applejack: What in tarnation?

Black: Fifteen seconds left.

Fluttershy: W-what's wrong?

Applejack: It won't open.

Black: Ten seconds.

Applejack reared up and was ready to buck it.

Twilight: Stop! You'll alert the guards.

Black: Five seconds.*sighs* Oh for the love of! Stand aside.

The lock on the window suddenly shattered into many pieces and the window opened in the process. Immediately the Rainbow Pegasus flew through the window and skidding to a halt several feet away. The others quickly closed the window and went to greet their friend.

Rainbow Dash:*proudly* Right on time.

Pinkie: That was awesome Dashie, you did it.

Rainbow Dash: Of course I did it, I'm awesome. But… I actually thought you weren't gonna' open the window in time. What took you so long?

Applejack: *chuckles nervously* Technical, difficulties?

The Rainbow pegasus raised her brow at that but shrugged and turned to her friends.

Rainbow Dash: So… what now?

Twilight: Now, I have a question: Black why are you helping us?

Black: AWW YEAH! That old cliché question, but considering that I'm in the mood for answering such questions, I'll tell you only this: I just find the opportunity to piss Celestia off to be something that I can't ignore, so that's that.

Twilight: *angrily* What do you mean by tha-

Black: No time to answer, there are guards moving in on your location. Take a left at the end of the corridor and you'll reach the main building. Good Luck.

Codex: Pinkie Pie

Pinkie Pie or Pinkamena Diane Pie is an earth pony mare, like the rest of her friends, residing in Ponyville. Previously living on a rock farm with her family. She moved to Ponyville after the fateful Sonic Rainboom which intertwined the fates of all six mares. While in Ponyville she is the Premier Party Planner, greeting every new pony with a large party. She knows everypony in town, along with their birthdays and other celebrations. Despite her cheerful nature, she can easily become depressed if anypony ingnores her friendship. Her depression often comes with very interesting psychological results.

Author's Note: #1: Okay, since Black is obviously the character who's gonna' star in the story I said I'll write, I can start by saying that his voice sounds like Isaac Clarke from Dead Space. Other than that nothing else.

#2: This is the first chapter to not feature Harbinger at all. But at least I decided to add some humor to it, instead of the serious stuff I said about it.

#3: Just so you know, Black is not a self-insert character, he is a full-fledged OC. If you're wondering about his and my name, then I can tell that my name comes from his name. Black is just the MLP version of another OC with the same name, whose background I modified to fit the storyline, although their mannerisms are pretty much the same.
