Chapter 1: Imperial Need

There was a tightening feel around the Lieutenant's neck. He started gasping for air as his airway began closing by an invisible hand. "We'll... find another. There are... more out... there. More... powerful ones." the Lieutenant said as his neck became wrapped in an intense grip.

"You have failed me for the last time. You are incompetent at your task and have caused the Empire to lose the one thing to keep the galaxy out of rebellion hands." the black figure said through his mechanical breathing apparatus.

"My Lord, please. I beg you." the Lieutenant gasped. There was an ear wrenching crush as the invisible hand crushed his airway, leaving the Lieutenant gasping, but unable to draw a single breath.

"That will be all." Vader said, leaving the asphyxiated Lieutenant laying on the ground, cold and lifeless. Two stormtroopers dragged the corpse out of the room to the incinerator.

"Vader." a hooded figure said at the observation deck.

"What is thy bidding, my Master?" Vader said as he knelt before the figure.

"We need to find a power source. If we don't, the rebellion will continue to grow more powerful." The air suddenly grew cold as the figure spoke, leaving the sense of evil hanging around them.

"I have our spy probes scavenging all the planets in the galaxy. We will find one soon, Master." Vader said, not rising from his knee.

"You have to search harder, Vader! Every moment we delay, the rebellion gains another ally. This station will be the most powerful force in the galaxy. Don't fail me." the dark hooded figure said menacingly.

"I will not fail you, my Master." Vader said. He rose from his knee and walked out of the room, carrying the Emperor's words with him. He walked down the black corridors to the command room. He had called all the high ranking members of the Empire to discuss the matter at hand.

"Ah, Lord Vader. You've decided to join us." Cassio Tagge said. "We were just discussing the matter of finding another crystal."

"And what have you found?" Vader asked as he walked towards the High General.

"There are a number of planets that hold what we desire. Adega, Aeten II, Mygeeto, Ilum, and Tasariq are all great contenders as a replacement. However, the crystals are small and may need to be recreated or altered to fit the Death Star's requirements." Cassio explained.

"What of the planet Christophsis where we retrieved the original crystal?" Vader asked.

"We lost the planet a few hours ago to rebel forces." Tarkin said. "In order to complete this station we need to find a new crystal before the rebels can attack it."

Vader stood there silently, his mechanical breathing making the only noise in the room. The officers stared at him, waiting for him to give a response. "Go to Tasariq at once. Gather whatever crystals are large enough to sustain enough power without being destroyed."

"But Vader, what about the spy probes you sent out to search for stronger crystals?" Motti asked.

"That is none of your concern. Focus on getting the crystals I am asking for. Nothing else." Vader replied.

"Yes, Lord Vader." he said.

Vader walked to the bridge of his personal Star Destroyer and stared out to the unfinished Death Star. It was near completion and would have been finished in a matter of months. But now with the Lieutenant's screw up, the greatest weapon in the universe would just be a hunk of metal in space. There was a beeping from one of the terminals.

"Lord Vader." a Captain on the bridge said. "We have received a transmission from one of our spy probes. It's sensors have detected crystals that are powerful enough to withstand the Death Star's firing magnitude. However, from what the scanner has shown, it holds no power in it currently. It will have to be charged and tested once harvested." he reported.

He grew suddenly uneasy by Vader's breathing and lack of response. "My Lord?" he asked cautiously.

"Send a harvesting droid down to the planet immediately and retrieve the crystal. Bring it straight to me." Vader said.

"Yes, Lord Vader." the Captain replied and went to the comms. Vader marched back to the Emperor as he felt a tremor through the force. Something was going to happen on that planet. Something that he knew would change the fate of the galaxy, forever.

Chrysalis gingerly walked through the barren lands of her kingdom. They had consumed all the love in this location and were barely getting by, eating whatever tiny plant life they could find. Chrysalis had tried to use a planting spell to grow some food, but to no avail. She had just learned that the Griffon Kingdom had cut all trading ties with the Changelings. This meant no food for her subjects and a loss of jobs.

"There has to be something we can do..." Chrysalis said to herself. She took off into the air, something she would do when she needed to think. She headed off into the Chrystal Fields of her land, the one place that held anything of value, but the one thing she wouldn't give up. They were more beautiful than the paintings in Canterlot and shinier than the diamonds that cascaded the Saddle Arabian's royal gowns.

They were falling apart, though. They were centuries old and she refused to tamper them with her magic. They were the only thing that reminded her of her parents. They had led the Changelings before her and it had been a time of prosperity for them. They were able to suck the love from their conquered territories and live in relative peace when they weren't conquering. The great thing about where they lived is that there wasn't anything of value here, so no one wanted to attack them. But somepony had sent the Canterlot assassination squad for her parents. The memory swamped her mind, bringing back forgotten pains.

Her parents were doing nothing wrong. They were just trying to find food for their subjects. But Celestia thought differently. She thought that Chrysalis' parents had been feeding off the love of every country just for the sake to do so. She didn't even open up negotiations or a meeting to see what was really happening. As the guards came to the crystal fields, her parents shoved her behind a large green crystal and told her to stay there and be quiet no matter what. And she had, as she watched her parents killed in front of her.

She found a small crystal that had fallen. She picked it up, remembering her parents and how they would bring her out here so she could see her favorite landmark. A dark memory ran through her mind. A hiding child behind a crystal, watching as the ponies killed her parents right before her eyes. She cast a spell of pure energy into the crystal. The crystal magnified it's power and shot it at a rock. There was nothing left but dust and crumbs.

"I know what I must do." she said quietly. She flew off back to her kingdom to figure out her plan of action. Unbeknownst to her, she was being watched by a mechanical drone.

Author's Notes:

I know it's short, but it was meant to start it up and give you a reason. But what do you guys think? Should I continue this for a few more and see where it leads? Or should I not even try?
