Twilight frowned and crumpled up yet another sheet of notes. She sighed and tossed it into the heaping mountain of crumpled up sheets that buried her trash can. She bit her tongue and rested her head in her hooves and groaned. “What am I doing wrong?” She questioned herself. Twilight raised her head and went over her scrupulous notes. “I went over everything, yet I can’t figure it out!” She wanted to pound her desk into submission, but she knew that'd serve her no good. Quite frankly it’d do the opposite of good.

The Alicorn had found herself at an impasse. Over the past week her library has been becoming more and more full with books; to the point in which she had to start using the guest bedroom as a secondary storage unit. Because of this it was starting to look like she was going to have to start getting rid of some of them. Twilight contemplated opening up another library in Ponyville yet after doing the math: the population of residents plus the number of books they may take out. She still wouldn't have enough space, even if the checkouts were continuous!

So she thought of a plan, instead of getting rid of them or even using Spike’s room as another storage unit. What if she’s able to transport them-per say somewhere else? It was an intriguing thought. If she could teleport herself or anything else around the world, why not just teleport the books somewhere she could always access them and have an unlimited amount!

It was perfect! Why hadn’t she thought of that until now?

All she needed to do was find a place that’d suit her needs. Somewhere no pony could find them, somewhere they couldn’t get burnt, wet, or even torn! Then another idea came to mind, a theory really.

Pocket dimensions. A universe between their own and another, an infinite space just ready to be filled with books! Now it was true that no pony has ever really opened a pocket dimension before. At least any mortal pony hasn’t. The world Celestia had that was full of Twilight's happiest memories was a pocket dimension. So if Celestia had one for memories, why couldn’t Twilight have one just for books?

The idea sounded simple, yet it wasn’t. Twilight found herself in quite the pickle because the laws of teleportation required that all spells must stay within the four dimensions. Which obviously meant opening a portal to an alternate dimension made things quite difficult. Now Twilight could always take the easy way out and just write a letter to Celestia and ask her how she had done it. Although, the poor alicorn didn't feel like bothering her ex-teacher. There was no need to have a repeat of last month’s incident.

And besides, Twilight would feel as if she had accomplished more if she takes matters into her own hooves. So now back to the problem at hoof. If there was a way she could some how manage the spell in a way that she could break out of these bonds held together by the four dimensions. Not only would it allow her to travel freely wherever she wanted, it could also open many doors to possibly other worlds.

Twilight smirked, now that’s an intriguing thought. However, after about the fifth time it begs the question. How? So far she had tried nearly every mathematical calculation her notes had to offer, but thinking on it now. What if she tried something different? Maybe it was time to put down the book, to stop going by every word it says. It was time she tried things her way.

For starters. She decided to play with the numbers and arrange them differently. Instead of having the dimension of time always being at the end she moved it to the front, not only that she decided to raise the number a bit. 986? More like 2019. Okay it was more than a bit, but she felt curious that was all. And in replacement for time she placed the Z dimension, while X and Y switched places.

Twilight frowned and glanced down at the coordinates. Something didn’t feel right, all she did was replace them. The location is different yes, but she had also bumped the year up dramatically! Which had already broken the rules, there was no way it was going to work. But hey, there’s no reason on why she shouldn’t try it out, then a second a thought came to mind.

What if time is greater than the location? Maybe that is why she isn’t able to get her spells correct because time had always been equal to the location. Maybe time isn’t always going to be the same in other worlds, it could be different. Twilight looked at her clock above the mantle, right then it was five twelve in the afternoon but somewhere across the galaxy or even in some parallel world it was five twelve in the morning!

Possibly time wasn’t always equal, instead it may be greater than. Twilight grew a large smile and quickly plucked her quill from the inkpot and began to write. When she was finished she lowered the quill and gazed upon her knew found formula in awe. Her smile growing even larger with each passing tick on the clock, she quickly rose from her chair. A giggle escaped her lips and she levitated the paper over to her bed and looked over it once more. Her gaze then shot to her wardrobe, her own personal testing area. The old hardwood was charred with previous failed experiments, something she could easily fix later. But now wasn’t the time for examination, no. It was time for experimentation.

Her horn flared with magic and the doors to wardrobe flung open with a bang. Twilight approached the wardrobe and stopped exactly five feet from it, her head bowed, eyes closed, she wiped her mind of all previous thoughts aside from the equation. Now all she needed to do was begin the spell.

Twilight needed to think of somewhere that was open, clear of anything that could harm her precious books. Someplace that wasn’t wet, or hot. Especially not wet. If this equation does work, Twilight didn’t want to find herself opening a flood gate that could drown her along with all of her castle staff.

Twilight’s horn began glow brighter, the air around her began to thin, and a faint buzzing sound could be heard in the direction of the wardrobe. Twilight continuously ran the equation over in her mind: Time is greater than or equal to the location. That’s all it was. Simple isn’t it?

Twilight clenched her teeth when she noticed some of her own sweat dripping down onto her face. The temperature in the room had rocketed up a good twenty degrees along with the humidity. The air was getting harder to breathe and that darned buzzing sound was really starting to get annoying.

The spell started to increase in ferocity, the noise had gotten even louder than it had just thirty seconds ago! The light from her horn beamed what nearly seemed brighter than the sun, and to only push that point further the temperature increased even more! The buzzing noise was soon replaced by a crackling sound that distinctly reminded Twilight of fire. Yet despite the temperature spike it couldn’t have been that, it had to be something else.

Whatever was happening it was surely different than the failed experiments before this one. Unlike the others, this was the first to not teleport her somewhere dangerous. She could feel the strength built up in her horn increase tenfold, it was almost time to release. All she needed was a few more seconds then–

Suddenly the bedroom door flew open. “Twilight, I brought those books–”

“GAAH!” Twilight shrieked and a loud noise, almost like an exploding firework, erupted from the tip of her horn. A rainbow colored beam fired outwards towards the wardrobe, which then struck the rear interior, thus causing it to explode in a cascade of smoldering splinters.

Twilight’s eyes snapped open and she quickly turned to face the young dragon. “Spike?!” She exclaimed before going into a wave of repeated deep breaths. “You scared me half to death!” The dragon didn’t respond. “Are you listening to me?” She asked him, she looked down at the stack of books he was carrying. Before she could say anything else Spike dropped them onto the floor and allowed them to scatter. “Spike?” Twilight looked him in the eyes and saw that he wasn't even looking at her. Instead his eyes were fixated on the massive, multicolored sphere that hovered right where the wardrobe used to be.

Twilight turned to face the sphere and her jaw nearly struck the floor. “Oh...” She gulped. “OHMYGOSH!” Twilight’s wings snapped outwards and she sprung into the air. “I did it! I did it! Spike I can’t believe it!” She flew down into the dragon’s face and cupped him by the cheeks and pressed her forehead against his. “I DID IT!” She released the dragon and Spike stumbled backwards with a hand to one of his ears.

“No need to scream in my ears...” He mumbled then shook his head. “What exactly did you do?”

Twilight landed in front of him and looked at the floating mystical sphere that casted a rather eerie glow across the entirety of the room. “In a technical stance it’s probably too confusing for you.” She sighed. “But in laymare’s terms: I opened a door.”

Spike frowned and looked at the glowing orb skeptically. “A door to where exactly?”

Twilight mimicked his frown. “I don’t know.” Her frown was quickly replaced with a wicked grin. “But that’s what makes it exciting!”

Spike’s eyebrows rose upwards and he looked at Twilight with concern. “Eh... Twilight I don’t really think that’s a smart thing to–wh-what are you doing?!”

Twilight snatched her quill off the desk with her magic and thrusted it into the sphere. Upon impact the feathered quill seemed to ignite into flames, however, instead of disintegrating into tiny particles, she could still feel her magic grasping onto something. She held it there for approximately thirty seconds before trying to pull the quill back through. When she did pull it back there was flash of light before the quill actually reappeared fully intact. Twilight levitated it over to herself and dropped it onto her hoof.

It wasn’t wet, that’s a plus. It also wasn’t hot or even cold, the quill didn’t appear to have aged at all. Which was fantastic. Twilight turned her attention away from the quill and eyed the portal, where did it lead? Was it still going to be Equestria? Or some alien planet?

A rather devious smile came to Twilight as a sudden thought came to mind. She approached the sphere. “T-Twilight?” Spike looked at the mare nervously. “What are you doing?”

Twilight stopped just inches from the portal, she looked at him, her crazed smile still on her lips. “I’m just going to take a peek that’s all.” And before Spike could protest Twilight took a deep breath and held it before going in head first.

:[-]:

It was only the blink of an eye before Twilight found herself trapped inside a realm of darkness. It was cramped and cool, the opposite of what she asked for. However, it was dry and surprisingly she was able to breathe! Because of that she was able to confirm that she wasn’t in space, wherever she was there was an atmosphere. Which also meant that this space she was in was probably some form of cave, or maybe this world was actually this small.

There was really nothing she could say about it. Yeah she most likely opened a door to some other dimension, or even to a planet in a galaxy far far away. But quite honestly... this was actually disappointing. At least, disappointing for the first couple of seconds. It was dark, and Twilight didn’t like being in the dark. Matter of fact she had always been quite nervous whenever she was in the dark. Now she wasn’t deeply afraid like how Fluttershy was, she was only paranoid. Slightly. Just a little bit.

Twilight took a deep breath and decided to dash away these worries with a little bit of light. What she saw next was something rather peculiar: in front of her was a wooden door, to her right was something that was black and smooth, yet the dark surface was very reflective. Still on the right but below her were these pairs of oddly shaped and colored objects with holes sticking out the tops of them. On her left was a long object that also had a reflective surface, it was pointing vertically yet a few inches before the tip it angled outwards and below the angled part was a red rectangle. Nevertheless what Twilight saw was very odd indeed.

Twilight took a deep breath, she had a strong feeling that she should go home. Though something was telling her to stay a little longer, explore some more, y’know. For science! It was really tempting, almost undeniably tempting. She’d be an embarrassment to all of the science community if she said she didn’t want to explore some more. But what about Spike? What if the portal closes? If worst comes to worst she did know the equation to get back home: Time is greater than or equal to the location, it’s that simple!

In that case. It was settled, she will give herself exactly thirty minutes. No more, no less. Twilight swallowed the lump she hadn’t even known she'd been holding, and pushed open the wooden door.

:[-]:

The door’s hinges let off an unsettling creak as it slowly swung open. Outside beyond the door Twilight noticed that the cave she had thought she was in was nothing but a wardrobe. A wardrobe much similarly made like hers... Well, her old one (she'd blown it up). This was a clear indication that wherever she was held life, now what kind of life? She didn’t know, and that’s all the more reason to get excited. She now had a new goal in mind: Find whatever it is that’s living in this building and go home.

Twilight crept out of the wardrobe and into a long, dark corridor. Her hooves clopped one at a time as she stepped onto the rather nice hardwood flooring. She moved as slow as possible, trying her best to not make a single–

“WHOOO!”

“EEP!” Twilight yelped at the sudden cheering noise, at least she hoped it was a cheer. She looked over her shoulder and down the corridor, at the very end just around a corner was a faint blue light. If she listened in closely she could also hear the hushed voices coming from where the light was.

Well she has a clear idea on where those things are at. Twilight’s eyes drifted towards the wardrobe, maybe it would be a good idea to go back–

“No, Twilight,” She whispered to herself, “I haven’t seen them yet. Just one peek. Just one little peek.” She began to creep down the hall towards the light. When she reached the corner she craned her head around it and saw a large door that was left ajar. Behind it she could hear voices, though she couldn’t quite make sense of them due to another continuous sound she couldn’t even begin to describe that overlapped them.

Twilight stopped just behind the door. She slowly raised a hoof and pushed it open gently, she poked her eye through the crack. In the center of the room was a very long sofa that stretched nearly from one end to the other. Beyond the sofa on the wall was a large picture frame that held moving images similar to the one’s that held her and Celestia’s memories. The pictures on the screen showed elongated bipedal creatures wielding long black objects that sporadically flung fire from the tip.

One of the creatures, a tall muscular thing, looked right towards Twilight and pointed at her. “Over there!” Twilight’s heart immediately leapt into her throat and she slammed the door closed and spun away.

The sporadic explosions beyond the door ceased. “What the hell?” Twilight heard a voice say. She quickly began to make her way back to the wardrobe.

“This was bad idea, this was a terrible idea!” Twilight began to panic, how could she have let herself be seen so easily? She picked up her pace, and rounded the corner just as she heard the door open behind her.

“Yo, Greg was that you?” The voice called out in a deep and intimidating demeanor.

“Say what?” Another voice replied from the direction Twilight was just heading in. She began to panic even more, there’s a possible chance she was going to have to bolt her way out of–suddenly, Twilight was blinded by an unknown source of light. She stumbled backwards and did her best to keep herself from crying out.

“Did you just slam the door to the living room?” The creature was nearing the corner. Any second now and she’ll be caught, if only that light hadn’t blinded her!

“Nah, man ain’t me. It was probably, Joe.” The second creature was also drawing near. Twilight stumbled forward, her hooves sloppily smacking against the hard floor.

“Who the fuck is making that noise?” She could hear its hooves thumping against the floor as it started to round the corner. “Joe, is that really you–what the fuck?!”

As Twilight’s vision cleared she found herself sitting on the floor facing the direction of a tall, thick creature. The creature had a long blonde mane and a shaggy beard, like some ponies it had a pair of glasses, and just beneath them glasses were a set of wide, confused eyes.

Twilight’s eyes also widened and her panic was kicked into full overdrive. She quickly scrambled back to her hooves, and for some bizarre, unthinkable reason. She ran towards it. She barreled headlong through the creature and knocked it into the wall. It’s back broke through the rather thin material and into the next room over, Twilight could hardly control her breathing. “Jesus Christ, Kenny what happened?!” Beyond the corner Twilight could hear the other creature running towards her.

She needed to escape, she needed to somehow get to the wardrobe and get home! There was no way she could ram her way through the second one, the first time she was lucky. The thing was in shock, now if there are anymore they’ve already been alerted of her presence. As of now, she just needed to keep moving.

Twilight turned back towards the room where this all started and rammed down the door. Inside the room she noticed the moving pictures had stopped and were now frozen, and the alien that had seen her was now being eaten by some hideous lobster monster. She shook her head, there was no time to get distracted she needed to hide. Her eyes landed on the massive sofa; without a second thought she hopped over it and onto the other side. There she spun around and quickly dove under the couch.

Twilight did her best to control her breathing, and her heart rate. She felt as if she was going to have a heart attack. This was not how she planned things to be, all she wanted was a place to store her books for Celestia’s sake!

“Kenny!” Twilight held her breath. “You alright man?”

She heard the creature, presumably named Kenny cough. “Ah-fuck yeah I’m fine... God! What the fuck happened to my wall?!”

“Is everyone alright up there?” A new third voice yelled, Twilight could feel the vibrations, followed by a brief shadow of a figure running by. “Damn what the hell happened?!”

“Some fucking animal attacked me!” The creature snarled, “That’s what happened!”

“Really?”

“Did I fucking stutter? Yes, I was attacked by some fucking dog thing, shit I don’t know.” It groaned, “My fucking wall man... I just put this shit up!”

“Well, where did it go?” I the third voice asked.

“It couldn’t have gone by me,” The second said, “Because I was coming up just shortly before Kenny was blasted through the wall.”

“Gahhaa, my wall man! Fuck!” The first wailed.

“It couldn’t have ran past me either I was coming up the steps.” Silence fell over them.

“My wall...” Twilight heard the creature, Kenny whimper.

“Jesus Christ, Kenny we have bigger things to worry about then your wall!” The second snapped.

“Whatever attacked you is still around here,” The third said, “quite frankly if what we say is true–”

“Then that means it’s in one of these rooms,” Kenny finished with a snarl. “I’ll kill that fucker!”

Twilight felt her heart shatter, now would be the best time to leave! Though she couldn’t, why? Because the second she went to wiggle herself out of her little hidey hole, the three creatures entered the room. She couldn’t see them really well aside from their oddly shaped hooves.

“Whatever it is,” The second creature whispered, “this is the only place it could’ve gotten to.”

“Spread out and find that bitch,” Kenny commanded.

Two of three creatures broke off in opposite directions, one began heading to the left end of the sofa while the other went to the right, the one in the middle remained still. Twilight’s heart began to ram against her chest again, and her breathing began to pick up. She felt like crying, no. She felt like she was going to pee herself because she was that scared.

Twilight didn’t want to hurt anypony, quite frankly she didn’t mean to hurt the creature. She was scared! Can’t they please just understand that she was only terrified! Twilight whimpered quietly.

“Hold it!” Instant silence fell over the room, and Twilight nearly clocked her teeth when she threw her hoof over her mouth so fast. “I think I heard something.” The creature that originally stood in the middle began to make its move, that move being directly towards her. Twilight’s eyes shrunk with absolute fear, now would be the time to run, now would be the time to run. At least that’s what she kept wanting to tell herself, yet she couldn’t quite bring herself to do it.

The creature’s hooves stopped just inches from the edge of the sofa. It was only a matter of time before it knelt down and went to snatch her up. All it needed to do was just bend one knee and her entire position would be compromised. However, it didn’t do any of that. Quite frankly, it did the opposite of kneeling down: it stepped over the couch and went to opposite end.

Twilight felt an instant sense of relief, she had came just millimeters away from being exposed. Now all she needed to do was–

“I fucking got you!” The creature, Kenny roared and snatched Twilight by both of her back legs and dragged her out from under the couch. Twilight screamed aloud as she thrashed around wildly.

“Jesus that isn’t a fucking dog!” One of the other creatures shouted.

“It doesn’t... fucking... matter what this bitch is!” Kenny shouted through clenched teeth while trying to tame Twilight’s violent thrashes. “It broke–my fucking wall!”

Twilight had enough of it, there was no other way she could break out of this things massive grip. She contorted her body so that she was looking at him and the glow on her horn came to life. The creature’s eyes widened with fear when it felt itself being lifted off the ground. “Wh–what the fuck?!” Kenny gasped out. “Put me down, put me down!”

Twilight’s brow furrowed and she looked at the massive picture frame which still held the image of one of the aliens being eaten by a lobster. Looking at it now, Twilight was rather disgusted by what the image held. So in order to get rid of it, she threw her attacker into the frame. Kenny’s chest slammed into the glass, shattering it immediately on impact, the wall behind the picture cracked and both Kenny and the frame fell to the floor.

Twilight cringed when the large, solid frame landed on the poor thing. She never wanted to hurt him, but desperate times called for desperate measures. “Greg.” Twilight’s ear twitched at the sound of the voice. “I’m calling 911–”

“Don’t you–” Twilight gazed down and saw Kenny gagging. “Fucking dare–call the sheriff!” He shoved the frame to the side and slowly started climbing back onto his hooves.

Twilight gulped, she stood around long enough. Now it was time that she made a break for the wardrobe––a loud pop erupted inside Twilight’s ears, and her vision was instantly cluttered with stars. She stumbled backwards, her rear making contact with the wall before her knees buckled and she crumpled to the floor unconscious.

Author's Notes:

So this is a fun little summer fic I decided to start doing. I hope you all enjoyed it, and please be light on Kenny the man lost a wall for Christ's sake. Trust me. I too have a lost a wall in my life, it was the saddest thing I've ever endured.

I apologize for any grammar mistakes, I was only a one man army in making this. Also you science/math geeks I'll admit that "formula" was something I straight up pulled out of my ass, so don't take it too much to heart.
