Chapter 1: Chapter 1 The Vision

Chapter 1 The Vision

It was night, the full moon was almost at it's peak as it had been midnight about an hour ago. Only very few ponies where still up at this hour. It was quiet, like it should be. But had more ponies been up to see Ponyville at this time some of them might have noticed a pony, all dressed in black and lurking in the shadows. This pony's presence had passed unnoticed as it had been patient to not reveal itself and wait for it's time to strike. But now it had to hurry, it's mission was meant to have been over an hour ago but at the time there had been a few more ponies awake than expected. Quicker than most ponies can move, the black pony moved in the shadows and avoided as much of the moonlight as possible. Soon before reaching it's target the pony reached an area to bright to traverse. Slightly pulling back it's hood it reveals a horn, after judging the distance the unicorn casts a teleportation spell and appears on the other side without a sound. The unicorn had practiced this spell for this very night, it was just very taxing to negate the sound that usually followed. Without much rest the unicorn neared the building set as it's target, the Ponyville library. The unicorn stopped only a few hooves away from the library, there where plenty of spells protecting the library as it's owner was also a unicorn. But without triggering any of the spells the unicorn did something so simple yet so brilliant it passed all the defenses, instead of trying to deactivate or neutralize the spells the unicorn simply used one spell to move the existing spells a little in any direction. The energy meant to support the spells would no longer reach the spells as they had been moved. Now the unicorn was able to pass without a single problem. The unicorn chuckled a little revealing it's voice to be one of a mare. As she continued to infiltrate the library she was able to preform spells at an incredible speed as well as not making a single sound while doing it. After unlocking the door the unicorn was past all magical defenses. Now began the real challenge.

Now, on top of the spell negating the sound of hooves the unicorn cast a spell to become invisible. It was not a hard spell but it had a flaw, it would dispel if the user tried to use any kind of magic. While now invisible the unicorn looked around, this library was actually quite big. The unicorn really liked books just as much as the library owner and would if during other circumstances gladly read every single one in this library. But with time passing by fast she only had about a half an hour to do her job and get out as the first ponies to wake up did so really early. Her spells to not produce sound or image of her worked perfectly and she was not noticed by the still awake owl sitting in the darkness fully awake. As the unicorn went upstairs she had to once again pass a door, this time with much more effort as she did not want to make any sound what so ever and was not able to use any more spells at the moment. But after some time the door was finally open and no sound had been made. She entered the bedroom, nearly tripping over the basket containing a sleeping dragon, that, would have been a fatal mistake. Now, standing next to the bed of the unicorn, her real target. She smiled while looking at the peacefully dreaming mare. Now the black dressed unicorn removed a piece of clothing revealing saddlebags on her sides. Out of the saddle bags she lifts a small bottle containing something looking exactly like normal water, but anyone could guess it was anything but. By using a pipette she only takes a few drops of the liquid, and leans forward over the sleeping unicorn dropping the content of the pipette down her open mouth into her throat. Removing the rest of the liquid and and pipette back into the saddle bags the unicorn heads back towards the entrance to the room, her mission a success. When almost at the door the unicorn takes one last look at the sleeping unicorn, knowing that she will never again wake up and starts to speak as if the unicorn was in fact fully awake: "Goodbye, and sweet dreams, Twilight Sparkle" and then she was gone.

Luna woke up in a cold sweat, in panic over what she had just seen. It was nothing like a simple dream, it was a vision of the future. Determined to prevent this Luna casts a spell over her memories of the vision, to track everypony with a connection to the horrible future. And she find's them, many of them including herself (not a big surprise as she is now trying to change this from ever happening meaning she will most surely affect the outcome). But many of these connections lead her far from Canerlot and Ponyville. But what baffled her the most was the strongest connection of them all, it lead neither to a pony or an object but to a force, a force she never was aware of before. A force beyond her comprehension was involved in this to the point of changing  the fate of Twilight Sparkle.

Getting up Luna went to her window, moving the heavy curtains meant to block all sunlight giving the room darkness enough to let Luna sleep during the day as most of her duties where during the night. Luna could if she wanted to stay up for a longer period of time, as an alicorn she did not require sleep in the same amount as regular ponies, yet she had made it into a habit to always be well rested in case of an emergency. And now it was just that, an emergency. Looking out the the now fully open window she saw it was till somewhere around midday. Leaving her sister a quick note about her going out to investigate something of importance. She didn't want to worry her sister and co-ruler to much as Celestia had many important duties to attend to during the day, they would talk about it when Luna would be back. But to keep anyone from knowing her leaving the castle or Canterlot she would have to change her for to something more like a normal unicorn, she would love to fly her way to Ponyville herself but it would require removing her horn for quite some time and also flying with pegasus wings instead of alicorn wings would take far to much energy. So instead she made herself into a dark blue unicorn with white mane and tail, her eyes turned ocean blue and her cutie mark turned into a crescent moon made out of cheese.

With her new disguise it had been easy to escape the castle without anyone noticing that a princess had left the castle. As the trip to Ponyville would take some time, Luna or the alibi she had chosen 'Nighttime cheese' had bought a newspaper, some food for the trip, saddle bags, a copy of a certain book, bits for unforeseen expenses and a ticket to the next train to Ponyville. No one had suspected a thing, no one knew they where in fact in the presence of royalty. And it was quite relaxing for 'Nighttime' as she did not have to worry about being polite to everypony, and now that no one would know who she was, no one would follow her. Or at least, that's what she thought.

'Nighttime cheese' had had yet to notice the young pegasus that had followed her all the way from the castle, and was not boarding the same train as her. The pegasus had expected the princess to have noticed him by now, yet she had not. If it was because he had been to good at not getting seen or stand out, or her not really being careful enough, he didn't know. But he found it amusing to stalk her as she had no idea who he was and what he was actually doing here, but he knew if he had followed Celestia instead she would have noticed him as soon as he had entered the platform waiting for the train. But this, this was amusing.

Luna was relaxing as she was trying to solve the crossword in the newspaper, it was not to hard for her but some words where still new to her as she had been banished for 1000 years and the language had slightly changed, slightly. Eventually she had filled in every word in the crossword, she switched the newspaper out for the book she had bought. She already owned this book but she didn't bring it with her, it was a book that contained much of Equestrian history form the time she had been in the moon. She had read the book on many occasions but had yet to complete it. She brought it out of her saddlebags next to her, the saddlebags now had 'Nighttime's' cutie mark as it was a kind of trend to have it on your saddlebags to easy identify them and also gave them a fitting look when used by a pony with the same mark. She would soon arrive in Ponyville where she would start to find the first ponies connected to the vision, but she would have to hurry as the spell letting her see the connection would only last a few days at most. The reason she started in Ponyville was because of two reasons, the first was that it was where the vision had played out. The second was that most of the connections where coming from Ponyville. She would guess that most of these connections would lead her to Twilight's friends as they where all connected to the elements of harmony.

As the train stopped 'Nighttime' left swiftly, already heading for the first connection. Still not noticing the young pegasus following her.
